Jimmy Warren Atwood
Jimmy Warren Atwood, 60, formerly of Lubbock, died Thursday, July 31, 2008.
An informal memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16th, at Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Whitney Atwood and Laci Loveless; and a grandson, Noah Loveless, all of Lubbock.
Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Lubbock Animal Shelter or The Cherokee Nation.
Radene Turner
Mrs. Radene Turner of New Home departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at the age of 80 years. She was born Sept.30, 1927, in Goree, to Rado and Jewel (Gass) Hutchens. Radene attended school in Goree, Draw and she graduated from Tahoka High School in 1945. Mrs. Turner attended Draughns Business College in Lubbock were she received her associate degree in 1947. Radene married
Dick Turner in Tahoka on Dec. 23, 1947; he preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1993, after 46 years of marriage. She was the bookkeeper for New Home Co-op Gin and the New Home city secretary for many years. Radene was an avid baseball and football fan; she loved playing games, especially dominos and crossword puzzles.
Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Judy Gandy and husband David of New Home; one son, Dickie Turner and wife Gerry of Crowley; three grandchildren, Kauy Wehe and husband Rodney of Keller, Jason Gandy and wife Meghan of Lubbock and Josh Gandy and wife Paige of Acuff; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Thena Clarke of Ruidoso, N.M.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at White Funeral Home in Tahoka.
Celebration of Life Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at the New Home Baptist Church in New Home with Rev. Kenneth McClung officiating and Rev. Calvin Gray assisting. Interment will follow in the Nevels Memorial cemetery in Tahoka.
Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home in Tahoka.
Sam D. Hunter
Sam D. Hunter, 85, of Iowa Park died Sept.5, 2008, in Wichita Falls.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at First United Methodist Church of Iowa Park with Rev. Don Pellikan officiating. Burial will be in Highland cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Sam was born Sept. 10, 1922, in Childress County to Sam D. Hunter and wife Edna Turner Hunter. He married
Wanda Sadler on Feb. 9, 1949, in Wichita Falls. He played basketball and tennis for Roaring Springs High School for four years and played basketball with Midwestern University for two years. He was owner/operator of Sam Hunter Real Estate. He served in the military with the 25th Infantry Division in World War II. He served in New Guinea, southern Philippines and Luzon, and received the Combat Infantryman Badge, American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Iowa Park Evening Lions Club for 40 years, North Texas Bird & Wildlife Club and Native Plant Society of Texas. For 20 years he was treasurer for First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, served on the Iowa Park City Council, and was a member of the Iowa Park Chamber of Commerce.
He was discharged Jan. 24, 1946, after three years of military service, and enrolled at Midwestern University, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and completed 18 hours on his MS Degree in Business. He worked for the Valley View Independent School District for 22-1/2 years. He also taught Veterans Vocational Night School for 12-1/2 years, sponsored by Midwestern University.
Sam received his real estate license in 1950, working part-time until 1970, when he was joined by his wife and they worked fulltime together.
Sam is survived by his wife, Wanda of Iowa Park; daughter, Carol Ann Theimer of Allen; son, Gary Hunter of Dimmitt; sister, Fay Chastain of Snyder; three grandchildren, Elisa Theimer of Allen, Patrick Hunter and wife Cimbre of Iowa Park, and Sean Hunter of Dimmitt; great-granddaughter, Zady of Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel.
Georgia Bryan Newton
Georgia Bryan Newton departed this life on Sept. 7, 2008. She was born Feb. 20, 1913, in Avery, to W.G. and Willie Ingram Bryan. Georgia attended Avery and Atlanta, Texas, schools and Texas Tech. She married
John C. Newton on Feb. 20, 1938; he preceded her in death on April 13, 2005. Georgia moved from Tulsa, Okla., to the Liberty Community in 1953. She was a full time homemaker and a member of the Idalou Methodist Church
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rita Marie Kelley and husband Gerald of Abernathy; one son, John Charles Newton III and wife Betty of Arlington; her two sisters, Gracie Lee Schubert of Monterey Park, Calif., and Dorothy Belle Warthan of Sheridan; her grandchildren, Amanda Rader and husband Randy of Yukon, Okla., and Matt Kelley and wife Laura of Plainview; her great-grandchildren, Haley, Zane, Rhyan Rader and Hannah and Seth Kelley.
Visitation will be 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at White Funeral Home in Idalou. Celebration of Life service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at the Idalou Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to request that donations be made to the Idalou Methodist Church or a favorite charity.

Florinda G. Moreno
Funeral services for Florinda G. Moreno, 47, of Lubbock will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Father Gerard Kenney officiating.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Burial will be at Resthaven cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
Mrs. Moreno left this world to be with her parents on Sept. 5, 2008. She was born March 29, 1961, in Lubbock, to Jesus and Felicia Garza. She married
Isidoro Moreno on Jan. 16, 1976, in Lubbock. Mrs. Moreno was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Felicia Garza; nephew, Israel Garza; and one grandbaby.
Even though the world lost the greatest wife, loving mother, caring sister, the best grandma and the world's best fisherman, we know that our angel returned home to be with her parents in eternal rest. She will be missed and loved; her memory will live with us forever. "Gone fishing, Mom."
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Isidoro Moreno; two sons, Eric Moreno and Jesus Isidoro Moreno; two daughters, Leeanna Wheeler and Evalena Alvarado; three grandchildren; four brothers; and seven sisters. Forever loved, rest in peace "Flower".
Dorothy Alspaugh
Services for Dorothy Alspaugh, 87, of Lubbock will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, in Englunds Chapel with Dr. Will Cotton officiating. Interment will follow in Slaton's Englewood cemetery and under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.Mrs. Alspaugh was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Pampa. She passed from this life on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008. Dorothy was raised in Perryton and graduated from Perryton High School in 1939. She later graduated from Denton's Texas Woman's University. Dorothy Osborne married
James. W. Alspaugh on Dec. 15, 1950, in Clovis, N.M. James preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1973. Dorothy was also preceded in death by five brothers, Jack, Scoops, Pete, Morrison, and Landrum Osborne; and a sister, Ruth Coffey.
She was the bookkeeper for U-Joints Parts in Lubbock for many years retiring in 1986. Dorothy was a long time member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Her survivors include brother, Ray Osborne of Perryton; and many nieces and nephews.
Clella Mae Lewis
Clella Mae Lewis of Escondido, Calif., and formerly of Lubbock, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, after a valiant bout with cancer.
Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven's Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
She was born June 20, 1933, to Henry "Ray" and Freda Hill in Sayre, Okla. Clella and her sister Wanda were raised in Sunray, and she attended the former West Texas State University in Canyon.
Formerly married
to Glenn Edward Lewis, she had two children, a daughter, Trudi Boyd; and a son, Bruce Lewis, who preceded her in death in 1969.
A longtime resident of both Lubbock and Seagraves, she moved to Escondido, Calif., in March 2007 to live with her only sister, Wanda Hatcher.
While in Lubbock, she served as office manager for Frontier Dodge for many years. She also owned a popular women's clothing boutique, Designers. Prior to opening her own business she worked for Norton Drilling Company as the office manager.
Clella enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, home decorating, and her beloved pets, Snuggles, Muffin, Lil' Bitty, and Fancy.
She is remembered by her family and friends for her optimistic spirit, her sense of style, love of shopping, her beauty, and her overall love of life.
Clella will be sorely missed by her family and friends and is survived by her daughter, Trudi and husband Fran of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Wanda Hatcher of Escondido, Calif.; a nephew, Terry Hatcher of Pacific Beach, Calif.; a niece, Rue Racine of Grass Valley, Calif.; and two granddaughters, Katherine and Madison Boyd, both of Alexandria, Va.
Alvis Wayne Cain
Services for Alvis Wayne Cain, 79, formerly of Lubbock and Abernathy, are pending in Las Vegas, Nev., where he died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008.
A retired builder and carpenter, Cain had lived in Las Vegas since moving from Lubbock in 2006.
He was born June 11, 1929, to J.M. and Irene Cain in Meadow.
A 1946 graduate of Abernathy High School, he entered the U.S. Army in 1950. He married
Ardella Roth in 1973 and they lived in Olympia, Wash., until her death in 2000, after which he returned to Lubbock.
He is survived by two daughters, Pam Cowan and Patsy Sheets, both of Las Vegas; a brother, Ray Travis Cain of Lubbock; four sisters, Lavenia Robertson and Audene Pilkinton, both of Lubbock, Lenda Wood of Tahoka and Nell Kelley of Pasadena, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
