Ruth Lewis

Ruth Joyce Lewis was born in Crosbyton on July 10, 1929 and peacefully passed away in Wylie on September 1, 2008. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ora J. Raymond, and her husband, Forrest S. Lewis. Ruth is survived by her children, Lark Lewis and Mack Lewis; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ruth was a loving and generous person who was willing to give to anyone in need. She spent over thirty years successfully working in TV and radio sales in the Lubbock area. Friends are invited to join the family and attend her memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Adams Funeral Home in Ralls.

Alicia Ortiz Martinez

Alicia Ortiz Martinez of Lubbock departed this life on Sept. 9, 2008, at the age of 81 years. She was born on Aug. 16, 1927, in Morton, to Jose and Earmina Munz Ortiz. Alicia was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Lubbock.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Janie Martinez, Earmina Sienz, Elida Martinez and Maggie Martinez; sons, Vincent Martinez and Willie Martinez; two brothers; and six sisters. She is also survived by 39 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

Alicia was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at White Memorial Chapel. Celebration of Life Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at White Memorial Chapel with Pastor Frank Tello Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock cemetery.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Clella Mae Lewis

Clella Mae Lewis of Escondido, Calif., and formerly of Lubbock passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, after a valiant bout with cancer.

Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven's Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

She was born June 20, 1933, to Henry "Ray" and Freda Hill in Sayre, Okla. Clella and her sister Wanda were raised in Sunray, and she attended the former West Texas State University in Canyon.

Formerly married to Glenn Edward Lewis, she had two children, a daughter, Trudi Boyd; and a son, Bruce Lewis, who preceded her in death in 1969.

A longtime resident of both Lubbock and Seagraves, she moved to Escondido, Calif., in March 2007 to live with her only sister, Wanda Hatcher.

While in Lubbock, she served as office manager for Frontier Dodge for many years. She also owned a popular women's clothing boutique, Designers. Prior to opening her own business she worked for Norton Drilling Company as the office manager.

Clella enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, home decorating, and her beloved pets, Snuggles, Muffin, Lil' Bitty, and Fancy.

She is remembered by her family and friends for her optimistic spirit, her sense of style, love of shopping, her beauty, and her overall love of life.

Clella will be sorely missed by her family and friends and is survived by her daughter, Trudi and husband Fran of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Wanda Hatcher of Escondido, Calif.; a nephew, Terry Hatcher of Pacific Beach, Calif.; a niece, Rue Racine of Grass Valley, Calif.; and two granddaughters, Katherine and Madison Boyd, both of Alexandria, Va.

Frankie Allene Gordon

Frankie Allene Gordon, 94, of Plainview passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, in Plainview. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Mark Stoub officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jane Martin and husband Bobby of Plainview; one son, Kenneth Richard Gordon and wife Pam of Ft. Worth; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five nephews and three nieces.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 2101 Utica, Plainview, Texas, 79072, American Heart Association, 2514 82nd Street, Suite B, Lubbock, Texas, 79423, or a favorite charity.

Jimmy Don Beevers

Jimmy Don Beevers, 59, of Lubbock passed away Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at his residence. He was born on Nov. 19, 1948, to L.D. and Dessalee Beevers. He was enlisted in the Army from 1966 to 1969.

He leaves to cherish is memory his mother, Dessalee Beevers; one daughter, Brandy Acosta; two sisters, Carol Branson and Paula Roller; one brother, Ronnie Beevers, all of Lubbock; three grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at the City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

Norma Jean Thomas Davis

Norma Jean Thomas Davis (Ms. Kitty), 68, of Lubbock passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Covenant. She was born April 26, 1940, to Conway and Mary Baker. She attended and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1958. She also attended several colleges and received several degrees. She worked for Texas Instruments, and was a supervisor for many years. She married Leon Davis in the 70s. She is preceded in death by her parents; two children, Steven and Marilyn; and two brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory her three sons, Vincent Thomas (Sandra), Dean Thomas, and Eric Thomas; four sisters, Gladys Thompson and Pauline, both of Lubbock, Mary Brown of Dallas, and Ovella Reed of Ft. Worth; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step-grandson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at Bethel A.M.E. Burial will follow at Peaceful Garden cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

Family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.

Radene Turner

Mrs. Radene Turner of New Home departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at the age of 80 years. She was born Sept.30, 1927, in Goree, to Rado and Jewel (Gass) Hutchens. Radene attended school in Goree, Draw and she graduated from Tahoka High School in 1945. Mrs. Turner attended Draughns Business College in Lubbock were she received her associate degree in 1947. Radene married Dick Turner in Tahoka on Dec. 23, 1947; he preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1993, after 46 years of marriage. She was the bookkeeper for New Home Co-op Gin and the New Home city secretary for many years. Radene was an avid baseball and football fan; she loved playing games, especially dominos and crossword puzzles.

Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Judy Gandy and husband David of New Home; one son, Dickie Turner and wife Gerry of Crowley; three grandchildren, Kauy Wehe and husband Rodney of Keller, Jason Gandy and wife Meghan of Lubbock and Josh Gandy and wife Paige of Acuff; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Thena Clarke of Ruidoso, N.M.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at White Funeral Home in Tahoka.

Celebration of Life Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at the New Home Baptist Church in New Home with Rev. Kenneth McClung officiating and Rev. Calvin Gray assisting. Interment will follow in the Nevels Memorial cemetery in Tahoka.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home in Tahoka.

Paula Ann Welch

Paula Ann Welch, 58, of Lubbock was born Dec. 4, 1949, in Lubbock, to Paul Ray and Elba Mae (Scott) Kirk. She graduated from Cooper High School. She married Bobby Welch, Sr., on June 7, 1986, in Lubbock. She was a member of Local 629 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union. She attended Skyline Baptist Church. She had a smile for everyone she met and is loved by all whom her life has touched.

Paula passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at her residence. She is preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by her mother, "Scottie" Kirk of Lubbock; her husband, Bobby of Lubbock; seven children, Billy and Bobby Welch, Jr. both of Lubbock, Evelyn Welch of Albuquerque, Melissa Welch of Illinois, Kirk Berryhill, Tommy Welch and Ryan Berryhill, all of Lubbock; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jackie and J.B. Kirk, both of Lubbock and David Paul Kirk of Dallas; and her sister, Rhonda Clemmer of Wolfforth.

In lieu of flowers, Paula would want you to give your family an extra hug and kiss from her today. Due to her wishes, there will not be a service. Donations may be made to Hospice of Lubbock in her honor.

Sandra Yvonne Scott

Services for Sandra "Yvonne" Scott, 71, of Lubbock will be 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, in Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor E.L. Bynum officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at Sanders Funeral Home.

She went to be with the Lord on Sep. 9, 2008.

Yvonne was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Tishimingo, Okla. She married Troy Lee Scott on May 26, 1952, in Lovington, N.M. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and six brothers. Yvonne touched every life that she came in contact with. She left behind a legacy of five children, Charlotte Gray, Terri Pendarvis and husband Joe, Connie Holley, Deborah Vasquez and husband Junior, and Troy Scott and wife Margaret; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She will be forever loved and missed.

John David Elam

John David Elam, 31, passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008. John had transferred to Lubbock from Gadsden, Ala., where he was a lifetime resident, a year ago with RGI Auditing Services. He was currently employed by Convergys Corporation. He graduated from Glencoe High School, Glencoe, Ala., in 1995.

John was born on Jan. 20, 1977, and took advantage of each day to enjoy life. He loved to frequent "Speeds" in Lubbock and play pool. His big enjoyment in Alabama was going fishing and to go swimming and jump off the high cliffs at Little River Canyon.

Those left to cherish his memory and left to celebrate his entrance into Heaven are his loving dad, Gary Elam of Glencoe, Ala.; his loving mom and step-dad, Kenny and Patricia (Grimes) King of McCalla, Ala.; his loving sister and brother-in-law, Shawn and Robin Bartlett, McCalla, Ala.; nieces, Taylor and Abbey Bartlett; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, especially Amanda Howard and family.

He was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Roland and Ruby Elam and Robert L. and Annie Joyce (Garrard) Grimes.

Visitation for family and friends to celebrate John's life will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home, with graveside services following the visitation at Crestwood cemetery with Rev. Pat Buckner officiating. Honorary pallbearers in spirit will be all friends in Lubbock, the nurses and doctors at University Medical Center in Lubbock and all the wonderful people of Lubbock that went out of their way to show their heartfelt caring and concern to John's dad, mom and step-dad as they shared John's last days of life at his bedside in Lubbock. You will always be in our hearts and prayers.
