Nela M. Luther
Nela M. Luther, 88, loving mother and devoted wife, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2008. She was an avid gardener, a league bowler for 45 years, and a member of Central Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell O. Luther.
Nela is survived by her children, Rick (Darci) Luther and Sheila (Keith) Wagner; siblings, Alma Brown, Leroy Kreie, Irene Lindbloom, and Barbara Beck; grandchildren, Bonnie Luther, Michael (Melissa) Wagner, Amy Wagner, Jacque Luther, and Ashlie Meier; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 16, at Lakeview Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
Wilma Holcomb Brown
Wilma Holcomb Brown, age 87, passed away on Oct. 13, 2008. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Lockney with Gene Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Lockney cemetery. The family will receive guests from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney.
Wilma Juanita Holcomb was born on Aug. 12, 1921, to Charlie Holcomb and Verna (Roberts) Holcomb in Coryell County. She married
Claude Crown on April 12, 1942, in Plainview. The couple enjoyed over 66 years of matrimony. Wilma was active for more than 48 years owning and operating Brown's Department Stores in Lockney. She was a hard-working lady who cherished her family and enjoyed spending her free time with them. She served as a board member of Hospice Hands of West Texas, aided with the Reading Buddy Program at the elementary school, was an avid grandson fan, and enjoyed time away fishing. Wilma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockney.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Verna; and her son-in-law, Bill Race.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Claude Brown; and daughter, Ann Brown Race, both of Lockney; grandsons, Karl Race and wife Sharon and their children Matthew and Danae, of Levelland, and Randy Race and wife Robin and their children Rayann and Ryder, of Lockney; brothers, Eddie and Norman Holcomb; sister, Sally Smoot; and many dear friends that were like family.

Ruth Louise Hunter
Ruth Louise Hunter, 68, of Easley, S.C., died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Muleshoe, Texas, and was the daughter of the late Rae Eugene and Iris Ioma Donald-Porter. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Hunter (Amanda) of Easley, S.C., and Chuck Hunter of Greenwood; her former husband, Jerry G. Hunter of Canton, Ga.; one grandchild, Malea Hunter of Easley; and a sister, Elisabeth Porter of Bryant, Ark.
Barbara F. Rudd
Barbara F. Rudd, 77, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hillside Christian Church chapel with the Rev. Mike Nuthman of the church officiating. Private family burial will be in Llano cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Mrs. Rudd was born July 12, 1932, in Stoney and moved to California at the age of 10. She was a graduate of Hollywood High School and attended West Texas State University. She married
Billie Rudd on Oct. 24, 1952, in Yuma, Ariz. He passed away in 1992. She moved to Amarillo in 1954.
She was a forecasting manager in the oil and gas business for many years. She worked for Kritser Oil and Gas, Natural Gas Pipeline and Diamond Shamrock-Midcontinent-Maxus Energy. She retired from Maxus Energy in 1996.
She enjoyed traveling, shopping and, most of all, being "Shorty" and "Barbie" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Laureate Theta Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for more than 40 years. She also was a member of Hillside Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Doris Purnell
Survivors include a daughter, LoriLane Duke of Olney Springs, Colo.; a son, Dr. Terry Rudd and wife Tonya of Amarillo; a sister, Charlie Sue Gilbert of Los Angeles; four grandchildren, Joshua Duke of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sky Rudd of San Marcos, Kiva Rudd of Montreal, Quebec, and Dakota Rudd of Amarillo; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Duke and Dryden Hill.
Barbara "Nana" Sprouse
Barbara "Nana" Sprouse, 79, of Amarillo died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Milton Jones and Craig Albracht officiating. Burial will be in Llano cemetery East.
Mrs. Sprouse was born March 27, 1930, in Childress to Cordelia and Harry Trout. She was raised in Childress, where she was a graduate of Childress High School as well as Childress Hospital School of Nursing. She moved to Amarillo in 1952.
She married
James O. "Jim" Sprouse on June 30, 1955, in Clovis, N.M. The wife of a career Air Force man, they were stationed in Clovis, returning to Amarillo in 1957. They moved to Denver in 1966 and returned to Amarillo to stay in 1968.
She loved being a homemaker, wife, mother and, most of all, she loved being "Nana" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her great fried chicken, her love for the Dallas Cowboys, and her love for dogs. She was a longtime Baptist and will be dearly missed by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, James O. "Jim" Sprouse of Amarillo; two daughters, Jennifer West and husband Dennis and Cindy Sprouse Supina and husband Larry, all of Amarillo; a sister, Yvonne Edwards of Phoenix; five grandchildren, Sheldon and fiancee Holly, James and wife Tyla, Doug and wife Stefanie and Lauren and Patrick; three great-grandchildren, James Michael, Cayden and Cooper; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Maurice Marchbanks
Maurice Marchbanks, age 77, long-time Logan, N.M., resident passed away in Tucumcari on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008.
Maurice was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Lubbock. He had owned and operated the Hitch-N-Post Restaurant in Levelland for many years. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Education and taught for Levelland Public Schools for several years and had served as principal of Canadian High School. He then worked for the Department of Agriculture in the US Forest Service retiring in 1986. He had been making his home in Logan for many years at the time of his death.
Surviving Maurice Marchbanks is his wife, Gladys of Logan; son, Bobby, also of Logan; daughter, Elwanda and husband Dean Reidhead of Herber, Ariz.; grandchildren, Michele and husband Jim Conway, Jr., of Peoria Ariz., Michael and wife Angela Reidhead, Michell and Leanna Reidhead, Megan and Darcy Hunt, all of Herber Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Hannah, Joshua and Olivia Conway, Allie, Brycen and Colten Reidhead, Savannah, Kerra, Trextan Reidhead, Mallorie and Emma-Leigh Hunt.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. (Central Standard Time) Friday at Resthaven cemetery with Rev L.R. Haistins officiating. Interment will then follow in the Resthaven cemetery.
Greg Nelson
Funeral services for Greg Nelson, 40, of Lubbock, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept 11, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Cremation will follow under the direction of Resthaven.
Greg passed away on Sept 4th.
He was born on Aug 13, 1968, in Lubbock and attended Monterey High School. He graduated with a BA in History from Texas Tech University in 1994. He was a member of Hub of the Plains and had formerly been married
to Lisa Laviolette.
Greg had formerly been employed at the Tech Library and Texas Lions Club Camp in Kerrville. He was a local artist and musician.
Survivors include his parents, Otto M. and Mary Jo Nelson of Owatonna, Minn.; two sisters, Carol Robertson of Owatonna, Minn., and Catherine Nelson and John Sprott of Lubbock; a brother, Hal Nelson of Austin; and a nephew, Andy Robertson of Lubbock.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

W.R. Ware
W.R. "Raz" Ware, 80, passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at his home in Floyd County. A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Floydada with Ron Brunson officiating. A private burial will be held under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
Raz was born on Dec. 12, 1927, at his home in Floyd County to W.P. "Willie" and Grace Beard Ware. Raz attended school at Cedar Hill and Plainview. He married
June Ross on Jan. 10, 1959, in Lubbock. They are the parents of a son, Clinton Ware, and a daughter, Lisa Ware Baldwin. Raz lived on the home place for 80 years and was engaged in farming and ranching. His family and friends knew him as an awesome roper during the 50s and 60s, and he competed in many rodeos professionally. He instilled his love of rodeo to his son, Clinton, and his grandsons, Cody and Clay, who are still rodeoing in college. He traveled far and wide to watch Cody and Clay rope. He was a member of the R.C.A. (Rodeo Cowboys Association), Ranching Heritage Association and TSCRA. His friends also knew him as an original pianist who composed many songs and entertained friends and family at home and in public.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill G.Ware, in 1964; and an infant brother, Joe, in 1929.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Clinton and wife Dara; grandsons, Cody and Clay of Floydada; daughter, Lisa; grandsons, Ross and Zach Baldwin of Floydada; a sister, June Brown and husband Dewayne of Hart; and several nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Cody and Clay Ware, Ross and Zach Baldwin, Jesse Sanchez, and Brett Marble.
Honorary pallbearers are Bob Durham, Dean Bohanan, Jack Ratchen, J.A. Welch, S.C. Burleson, DeWayne Brown and Jim Saul.
