Timothy "Tim" Willard

NEW YORK - Timothy "Tim" Willard, 45, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. A memorial service will be planned for February in New York.

Timothy was born Dec. 22, 1964, in Roswell, N.M. Tim first pursued his love of classical music at the North Carolina School of the Arts. He later transferred to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with honors in 1986. Shortly thereafter, he moved to the City, where he started his career at MCI as an account executive. He joined Grey Advertising in 1998, was promoted to vice president, and subsequently joined Qwest Communications.

Everyone that Tim touched knew him as a kind, loving, considerate person who put the interest of others always ahead of his own. He will be missed terribly.

Survivors include his mother, Lawanda Corbett; his father, Fred Willard; a brother, Trever Willard; and his grandfathers, Edgar Willard and Don Miller; as well as a large clan of loving family and friends.

Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

David Lee Turpin

David Lee Turpin, 69, of Lubbock went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 9, 2008, following a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be 6:30 p.m. Monday evening, October 13, 2008 at First Church of the Nazarene in Lubbock with the Reverend Curtis Sellers officiating.

Born on July 25, 1939 in Santa Rosa, Calif. to Alfred and Pearl Turpin, David was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bobby. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Laurea and daughter, Lauren, both of Lubbock; a son, Dave of California; five grandchildren, four nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

David served his country proudly in the US Navy, worked in law enforcement in Colorado, and retired from security at Covenant Hospital. His body was donated to the Texas Tech School of Medicine for research.

His family wishes to extend a special thank you to Trinity School and the doctors and nurses of Covenant Health System who lovingly cared for David over the years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a fund established for Lauren Turpin at Wells Fargo Bank in Lubbock.

Buford O'Dell Chamberlain

Buford O'Dell Chamberlain, 64, passed away on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008. No services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Buford was born on June 13, 1944, in Clovis, N.M., to H.L. Chamberlain, Jr. and Joyce Clifton Chamberlain. He was raised in Levelland and graduated from Levelland High School. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Houston. He married Jan Berry. Buford fought a gallant battle with cancer and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Thank you all for your calls, cards, letters and prayers.

Buford is survived by his daughters, Stacey and husband Darrell Post of Madisonville, Jana and husband Brian Tuerff of Austin and Derwalea and husband Richard King of Elgin; granddaughters, Brenna, Breann, Alison, Amanda, Shandi and Courtney; grandson, Taylor; mother, Joyce Belknap of Temple; sisters, June Williams of Katy and Barbara Holthusen of Arlington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Randell Clyde Irwin

Randell Clyde Irwin peacefully departed this life on October 6, 2008 after a long illness. He was born in Floydada on December 23, 1921 to Lottie Faye Maxey Irwin and F. C. Irwin. He attended Texas Tech University prior to serving in the Army during World War II.

He married Cora Shannon Hope on July 7, 1945 in Lubbock. Mr. Irwin was self employed for many years and retired at age 83.

Preceding him in death are his parents, one sister, one brother, one brother-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his wife; his brothers, Sherman Irwin and wife Audeen; Lofflin Irwin; Herbert Irwin and wife Sue; Hershel Irwin and wife Jane; sister, Luella Slack and husband Bryce; children, Shannon Jo Conatser and husband Charles; Richard Lee Irwin and wife Nita; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held 6 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 at St Paul's Historic Church on the Plains, 41st and University in Lubbock, with Pastor Brad Thompson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center or a favorite charity.

Mavis Snow

Mavis Snow, 70, of Lubbock passed away on October 11, 2008 and joined her husband, Paul, who preceded her in death on March 18, 1997, and has been waiting just beyond the moon to take her home.

She is survived by her sisters, Florence Moore of Lubbock and Clare Allen of Florida. She is also survived by her children and their partners, Cyndi Snow and Mike Roberts; Laurie Henyan and Brad Youngblood; Sheri and Steve Ufford; Christopher and Lena Snow; Peggy and James Stack. Her surviving grandchildren and their families are Mack McNeely and Jennifer; Bridgette, Jeremy, Kaycee, Tyler, and Zachary Pickard; Rachel Henyan and Adrianna Galicia; Brent and Blake Henyan; Kevin Ufford and Megan Holbrook; Adam and Christina Ufford; Tim and Brian Ufford; Jonathan and Justin Snow; Adena and Dustin Stack.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to VistaCare Hospice, 1717 Norfolk Avenue #A, Lubbock, Tx 79416.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 14 at Lakeridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd Street, followed by a graveside service at Resthaven Mausoleum.

Madge Hardin Weaver

Madge Hardin Weaver, 76, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2008, at her home in Lubbock. She was born June 17, 1932, in Munday to Edward Lafeatte Hardin and Effie Alma Hardin. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Madge graduated from the College of the Southwest and Texas Tech University. She was a 4th and 5th grade school teacher in the Crosbyton ISD for 24 years and was elected by former students to be listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers. Madge was known for her enthusiasm and knowledge in the classroom and was praised by her peers and students for her ability to relate to youngsters.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Weaver; son, Eddie Weaver and wife Virginia of Breckenridge, Texas; daughter, Lynette Morrison and husband Frank of Lubbock; grandson, Matthew Weaver of Sweetwater; granddaughter, Heidi Schlemmer of Anoka, Minn.; grandson, Jason Weaver of Corpus Christi; grandson, Frank Morrison, Jr., of Aurora, Colo.; and two-granddaughters, Mabry and Marley Weaver of Sweetwater.

A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Monterey Church of Christ. The family will receive visitors in the Fireside Room of the church following the memorial. There will be no graveside service because she donated her body to Texas Tech Health Science Center. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Lubbock Meals On Wheels or Ciudad de Angeles (a home for orphaned children in Cozumel, Mexico), c/o Mickey McKandles at Monterey Church of Christ.

John L. Gary

Funeral services for John L. Gary, 93, of Roswell will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Gary officiating. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. in Lubbock at Resthaven Funeral Home Memorial Park. John went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 10, 2008.

Gary was born on November 6, 1914 to Jim and Mamie Jones Gary in Graham. He and Elizabeth Ella Morris were married on November 29, 1936 in Newlynn. Elizabeth survives John at the family home. John was known as the "Walking Evangelist" throughout his life. He loved the Lord with all his heart and enjoyed winning people to the Lord. John was a former pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Roswell in the late 50s and early 60s. Throughout his life John was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and the best father-in-law.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, John is survived by his children, Lou Hubbard of Roswell; Jerry Gary and wife Alta of Joaquin; and Alvin Gary and wife Judy of Guadalupe FW Indies; two sisters, Pauline Terry of Lubbock and Oleta Weikel of Pflugerville; and two brothers, Alvin Gary and wife Juanita of Lamesa; and Raymond Gary and wife Joyce of Lubbock. John is also survived by nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mamie Gary; three brothers, Loyce, Jim, and C.W. Gary; four sisters, Irene Rice, Mildred Anderson, and two infant sisters.

Services are under the direction of Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory.

Clarence L. "Red" Phillips

Surrounded by his family and friends, Clarence L. "Red" Phillips, 77, of New Deal went to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 11, 2008.

Red was born in Sulphur Springs on November 9, 1930, the oldest son of Harvel and Jewel (Parsley) Phillips. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1948 and attended Hardin Simmons University. Red married the love of his life, Ima Jean Martin, on January 28, 1951 in Iowa Park, Texas. He served his country in the Texas National Guard, 36th Infantry, from 1948 to 1956.

Red was a farmer for 28 years in the Lubbock area. He then was warehouse supervisor at Texas Tech Physical Plant for 12 years.

Leading by example, Red was actively involved in his community serving as a Deacon, City Councilman, and Volunteer firefighter. He concluded his 25-year tenure with the New Deal City Council in 2001 and retired from the New Deal Fire Department (along with his helmet #14) in January 2005 after 28 years of service.

Red willingly served his Lord as a Deacon at First Baptist Churches of New Deal and Lubbock. He and Ima Jean were greeters at FBC Lubbock for several years. Papa Red was a wonderful, caring, and generous man who had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Red always had a smile to give and a kind word to share.

Red is survived by his wife, Ima Jean; daughters, D'Ann Dendy (Leslie) from Alamogordo, N.M.; Dena Lloyd (Jimmy) of Sulphur Springs; and Debra Scarbrough (David) of New Deal; brother, Claudie and Jane Phillips of Lubbock; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one niece, and five nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Juana Taylor; and grandson, SSG Michael "Chad" Lloyd.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2008 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 14 at First Baptist Church in Lubbock. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the New Deal Fire Department and Jason Sunday School class from FBC. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Carillon Vista Care Hospice for the compassionate love and care provided to our Papa Red.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church Foundation.

David Moore Smith

David Moore Smith of O'Donnell departed this life on October 11, 2008 at the age of 56 years. He was born on August 17, 1952 to Warren Denzal and Oleta Moore Smith in Lubbock. David graduated from O'Donnell High School in 1970 and Texas Tech University in 1975. David was the former Mayor of O'Donnell from 1988 to 1994 and served six years on the City Council. He was a farmer and business man. David married Esther J. Quintana in 1996 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Shriner, member of the Masonic Lodge and SPAG. David was a member of the First Methodist Church in O'Donnell.

Those left to cherish David's memory are his wife, Esther; mother, Oleta; one brother, Wm. Denzal Smith of Lubbock; and one brother-in-law, John F. Akeley of Lubbock.

He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Denzal Smith.

Celebration of Life Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in O'Donnell with Rev. Ken Peterson and Rev. Larry Gaumond officiating. Interment will follow at the O'Donnell cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family would like memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 612 Fifth Street, O'Donnell, Tx 79351, or to O'Donnell Masonic Lodge, PO Box 415, O'Donnell, Tx 79351.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Tahoka.
