Larry M. Jackson
Larry M. Jackson of Lubbock went to be home with his Lord on January 30, 2010 at the age of 67.
Larry was born in Cleburne, Texas to the late Elbert and Myrtle Louise (Green) Jackson. He married
Sue Goodnight in March of 1962. After moving to Lubbock, Larry spent 40 years working at the Avalanche Journal Newspaper. He was in the newspaper industry for over 47 years. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and Larry also spent several years as a coach with the Lubbock Girls Basketball Teams. He also loved to travel; perhaps his favorite spot in all the world was in Ouray, Colorado.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris Brocklehurst.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sue; his son, Larry Craig Jackson and wife Alicia of Lubbock; and his daughter, Tonda Jackson of Lubbock. He will also be missed by his step grandchildren, Malorri Hughes and Jaryn Steward; his brother, Wayne Jackson and wife Ruby of Humble, Texas; his sister, Susan Nance and husband Tom of Brownfield, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service for Larry is Wednesday, February 3rd, at 4 p.m. at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Dr. Ken Horn officiating.
Peggy Smith
Funeral services for Peggy Smith, 58, of Levelland, will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at George Price Funeral Chapel in Levelland, with Rev. Eddie Trice and Rev. Clifton Igo officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock.
She died on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at Covenant Hospital Levelland. The family will receive visitors this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at George Price Funeral Home.
Peggy was born to John and Joyce (Jenkins) Murr on Nov. 10, 1951 in Huntington Park, Calif. She married
Larry Dwain Smith, on July 16, 1977, in Lubbock. She worked as a bookkeeper for Lubbock Gasket Co. and Musselwhite Trucking. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, and her father, John Murr.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Smith of Levelland; a son, Zachary Pointer and wife Stephanie of Meadow, Texas; a daughter, Pamela Sue Young and husband Tom of Jacksonville, Fla.; her mother, Joyce Powers of Levelland; a brother, John Murr, Jr. of Sparta, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
Carolyn Belle Jones McDowell
Carolyn Belle Jones McDowell, 64, of Lubbock died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center.
She was born in Matador, Texas, to Grover and Audrey Price on Jan. 29, 1943. She married
Bobby McDowell on Dec. 15, 2005 in Reno, Nev. She worked at LP&L; for 27 years retiring on December 2006.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby McDowell of Lubbock; two daughters, Lisa Waggoner of Hico and Kathy Wilkerson of Perry, Ga.; three grandchildren, Greg King of Houston, Fennie Waggoner of Hico and Stormi Waggoner of Hico; two brothers, James Price and Charles Price of Lubbock; one niece, Krista Findley of White Bluff; four nephews, Morris Price of Lubbock, Paul Price of Parker, Colo., Scott Price of Round Rock, Texas and Michael Bruce Price of California.
She leaves many friends and co-workers.

Fern Weaver
Fern Weaver, 94, of Lubbock, died on April 15, 2009 at her home in Windsong/Carillon. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 17, at Neil Chapel with the Rev. Ted Dotts officiating. A private family burial service will precede the memorial. In addition, Mrs. Weaver's family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Born in Prosper on April 27, 1914 to Thomas B. and Dolly Taylor, Mrs. Weaver moved to West Texas with her family in 1919. The Taylors settled in Idalou, where she graduated from high school. She married
Earl Weaver on April 12, 1934 and together they had four children. Mrs. Weaver spent much of her life as a farm wife, mother, and homemaker.
Fern enjoyed painting, traveling with family and friends, a good game of bridge, and reading. She loved chatting with old friends and making new ones. She was active for many years in the Idalou Methodist Church. She was a long time leader within the Civic and Culture Club and a 32-year room mother for her children's classes.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Weaver; and son, Ken Weaver. Survivors include her daughters, D'Aun Tavenner and husband Herb of Lubbock, Jan Silverstein and husband Richard of Denver; daughter-in-law, Betty Noland of Hurst; and son, Stan Weaver and wife D'Aun of Lubbock. Fern is also survived by ten grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be made to South Plains Food Bank of Lubbock (SPFB) or to the Carillon Foundation.
Mrs. Weaver's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to her caregivers, Ninfa Martinez, Gabey Sanchez, and Darla Harrington for their loving kindness during her illness.
Gene Earl Knight
Gene Earl Knight was born September 17, 1926 to parents Winter and Leona Knight and lived in Tahoka during his youth and young adult life.
While attending high school at Tahoka High, he joined the Texas State Guard and then joined the U.S. Navy on October 4, 1944.
He served two years during World War II and was assigned to ships in the Pacific in the war against Japan. During the battle for Iwo Jima, his ship, the U.S.S. Gamble, was struck by low flying Japanese planes which dropped two bombs amid ship. The U.S.S. Gamble was primarily a fast minelayer and whose principal function was to lay mines. However, on February 18, 1945 the Gamble was screening the night retirement of another ship from Iwo beach when it was hit. Gene was honorably discharged on June 10, 1946.
Gene returned to his native Texas and worked for an oil company for a period of time. He and his brother, Bill Knight established Knight Home Builders. They build many fine Lubbock homes especially in Melody Park during the 60s and early 70s. He served as president of The Lubbock Home Builders in 1974. In 1978, he joined his wife, Jean Bledsoe Knight, at Bledsoe Insurance Agency and continued there until his retirement. Gene was a member of Second Baptist Church and was a Master Mason. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Leona; father, Winter; and brother, Bill.
He married
the love of his life, Jean Bledsoe Knight, February 9, 1978. They spent 31 years happily living and working together. Besides his wife, he leaves two children, Michael Knight and wife Pam of Littleton, Colo., Marian Roddy of Lubbock; his four step children and spouses, Donna and David Liddell of Albuquerque, N.M., Mike and Rita Bledsoe of Canton, Kim and Roxanne Bledsoe of Salado, and Katricia and Dr. Joe Lampley of Seminole. Together he and his wife share 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the W.W. Rix Chapel with Dr. Hardy Clemons officiating, burial will follow in the City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends at Rix funeral Directors this evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Darlene Vernon Talkington
Darlene Vernon Talkington, age 40, a resident of Lantana, passed away on April 13, 2009 in Dallas. She was born on September 19, 1968 in Amarillo to Gary Lee and Kathryn Vernon. Darlene was a graduate of Amarillo College with an Associates Degree and then attended Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree. She was employed with YUM Brands in Dallas that is Pizza Hut Headquarters as a project manager. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, John Talkington; two daughters, Mikayla age six, and Reagan age two; her sister, Zenda Qualls; mother, Kathryn Vernon; and grandfather, Frank Melcher. Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Flower Mound Family Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at Trietsch United Methodist Church in Flower Mound.
Olevia Elaine Hines
Olevia Elaine Hines, 42, of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Brownfield passed away Monday, April 6, 2009 at her resident in Los Angeles. Olivia was born June 23, 1966 in Brownfield to Mary and Jesse Hines. She attended school in Brownfield. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, I. H. and Olivia Harris and Stella Hines; her parents, Mary and Jess Hines; and her brothers, Jimmy and Eula Charles Hines. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Andre Hines and Lamar Hines; her brothers, Robert Hines (Denise), Tommy Hines (Leatrice), Isaac Hines (Sonya), and John Hines (Toi); her sisters, Patricia Kemp, Stella Hines (Jesse), and Lavern Mann (Michael); a half-brother, Shad Evans; a half-sister, Jennifer Stell (Kevin); one newborn granddaughter, Maliyah Elaine Hines; many nieces, nephews, a host special aunts, uncles, and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at Abundant Harvest Community Church in Brownfield; burial will follow at Brownfield cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Visitations will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.
Steve R. Davis
Memorial services for Steve R. Davis, 63, of Lubbock, will be 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at the First Christian Church. He died on Feb. 6, 2010 at Covenant Medical Center.
Steve was born on Sept. 10, 1946 in Dallas to Joe S. and Imogene F. Davis. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1965 and from Texas Tech University, receiving a degree in International Economics.
Steve enjoyed a successful business career that started in the food service industry and culminated recently in the Real Estate Brokerage. His greatest fondness, following his love of family and friends, was his love of the outdoors - including hunting and fishing, be it a simple trout stream or an international hunting trip and watching the geese fly overhead.
Steve is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pam S. Davis; mother, Imogene F. Davis, brother, Jon W. Davis; father-in-law, Sam Strong; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe S. Davis; brother, Dan S. Davis; and mother-in-law, Ellouise Strong.
Steve, a.k.a. "Jingles", was loved by so many for his gregarious personality, great stories, close friendships and for the huge heart, which unfortunately failed him. He will be missed by all.
Claude James Holmes
Memorial services for Claude James Holmes, 79, of Lubbock will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 9, 2010, in Mackenzie Terrace Baptist Church, with Pastor Aubrey Howell officiating. Claude passed away Sunday January 31, 2010.
The oldest of five children, Claude was born December 19, 1930 in Cooper, Texas to Claude W. and Flora Holmes. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1949. He married
Georgia Ann Mixon on July 4, 1954; she preceded him in death on March 7, 1984. Claude served in the US Air Force from 1951 through 1953 and worked as an agent for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for 25 years. He was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a charter member of the Lubbock Scottish Rite. Claude was a faithful member of the Mackenzie Terrace Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing "42" and loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, James Richard Holmes and wife Tina of Lubbock and Craig William Holmes and wife Kim of Black Hawk, Colorado; four grandchildren, Heather Sholey and husband Jimmy, Rachael Francis, Courtney Holmes and Chad Holmes; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Sholey and Jaden Francis; his brother, William Holmes and wife Martha; his sisters, Bonnie Colhour, Deloris Gillean and husband Dean, and Helen Sue Banks and husband Willie Ray; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Thomas M. Randall, Jr.
Services for Thomas M. Randall, Jr., 38, of Lubbock, will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 in the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole, Okla., with burial following in the Little cemetery. Thomas died on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 in Lubbock.
Thomas was born on Feb. 15, 1971, in Rosebud, S.D., to Thomas M. and Patricia (Jacob) Randall. When Thomas was two his father died and his family moved to Atoka, Okla., where he grew up and graduated from high school. Thomas had worked as a Sonographer for 15 years. He married
the love of his life and soul mate, Melissa Sellers, on Jan. 1, 2006 in Shawnee, Okla. In Jan. 2009, Thomas accepted a job at the Lubbock Heart Hospital and they moved to Ransom Canyon, Texas. The true joy of Thomas' life was his children and his wife, Melissa. Thomas and Melissa spent many wonderful hours gliding across the dance floor with one another.
Those left to cherish Thomas' memory are his wife, Melissa; children, Johnathan Randall, Kadence Randall, Bronc Randall, Blake Sellers and girlfriend Katie Beth Spencer and Jackie Sellers.
