Services for A. C. Bowden, 90, a longtime resident of Lubbock, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the First Baptist Church with the Reverend John Ballard officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
He passed away on May 24, 2009.
Adrain "C.W." Bowden was born September 13, 1918 in Decatur to John and Jewel Bowden. He graduated from Oakla Union High School in 1936 and from Texas Tech University-Engineering Department. A.C. served in the U.S Navy during World War II. He married
Melba Riek on March 1, 1942 who preceded him in death. On October 2, 1986, he married
Josephine Ballew, who also preceded him in death on November 4, 2006. He was a longtime member and deacon of First Baptist Church-Lubbock. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Texas Tech Alumni Association, The Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge, and the Lions Club.
Survivors include his step-son, Morris L. Ballew of Little Elm; his brothers, J. Bowden, Robert Bowden, Roland Bowden, Junior Bowden; sisters, Louise Hunt, Loretta Weatherby; three granddaughters; four grandsons; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sanders Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Lubbock or a favorite charity.
Evelyn Grace Hall Meinecke
Evelyn Grace Hall Meinecke, 84, of Lubbock passed away Monday, May 25, 2009. She was born February 28, 1925 in Jayton to George and Bonnie Hall. Grace graduated with a Degree in Business Administration at Texas Tech University in 1946. She married
Charles R. Meinecke on August 20, 1949 and taught school in Idalou for three years and later worked as a substitute teacher in the Lubbock Public Schools for 13 years. She was later employed as an assistant to the Associate Dean of the Arts and Sciences Department at Texas Tech until her retirement in 1988.
Grace was a long time member of the Melanie Park Church, and avid bowler and member of the Lubbock Bowling Association, an avid sports fan and Red Raider enthusiast, and enjoyed quilt making as a hobby.
Her survivors include her husband, Charles; two sons, Len Meinecke and wife Theresa of Lubbock, Mark Meinecke and wife Cindy of Bellevue, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Rachel and Megan.
A funeral service to celebrant the life of Grace will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at Melonie Park Church with Rev. Roger Wisdom officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
Donnie Blackmon Lewis
Donnie Blackmon Lewis, 60, of Lubbock died Saturday at her home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Franklin-Bartley Chapel, burial will follow in the Meadow cemetery. Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Donnie was born August 14, 1948 to Donald and Ida (Wilson) Blackmon. She was a graduate of Ropesville High School, and she attended South Plains College, and University of Texas. She married
Bill Lewis October 21, 1986, in Lovington, N.M. She was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church, and was a retired bookkeeper.
Donnie is survived by two sons, Truett Moore and wife Tammy, Brad Moore and wife Debora; daughter, Tanya Medlock and husband Shane; grandchildren, Randall, Kyler, Chance, McKenzie, Payton, Megan, and Cooper, all of Ropesville; sister, Carol Saunders of Dallas; brothers, Mike Blackmon of Lubbock, Bill Blackmon of Fredericksburg; and step-mother, Ruth Blackmon of Fredericksburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Lewis; her parents; step-father Doyle Langford; and brother, Jay Blackmon.
Gaye Eileen Smith - Tanner
Gaye Eileen Smith - Tanner, 62, of Lubbock, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Her funeral service was held in San Antonio on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 11:30 a.m. with Interment at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery.
A memorial and celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church, 2002 Birch Avenue, Lubbock, TX.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd Street, Lubbock, TX 79423 in Gaye's honor.
Dorothy Wier
Dorothy Wier, 86 of Lubbock died Sunday in Whisperwood nursing center. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Friday in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park, under the direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home. Her family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born Octobert 23, 1922 in Aquila. She married
C.V. Wier in 1945 in Waco. He preceded her in death. She was a member of Vandalia Church of Christ, former owner of Dot's Beauty Shop, and worked until her retirement at Copper Rawls Senior Center.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Rose Mary West of Olton, Dennis Keith Wier of Lubbock, and Amy Ramon of Shallowater; sisters, Patsy McCain and Billie Schaffer of Waco; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Ann Bigham, Reylene Weir; her parents; four sisters; and one brother.
Imogene (Penny) Baldwin
Penny Baldwin, 80, of Lubbock passed away while at home and joined our Lord on Saturday, May 23, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Baldwin in 2000; a daughter, Sandra Dunne; two brothers; and two sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Mike and wife Carolyn Acres, Greg and wife Jo Acres; a sister, Jean McDowell; many nieces and nephews; several cousins; Baldwin descendents; and dear friends from Southcrest Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church.
Penny was born November 11, 1928 in Estacado to John and Nettie Pounds. She moved to Lubbock in 1952. She married
John H. Baldwin on June 24, 1977 in Las Vegas, Nev. After working many years at West Texas Caterpillar and United Oil and Grease, Penny spent her retirement years taking care of others by calling friends and praying for those in need. She was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church.
The family will receive visitors at Sanders Funeral Home on Thursday, May 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Sanders Memorial Chapel Friday, May 29 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials to Southcrest Baptist Church.
Susye Parish
Susye Parish, 99, of Denver City passed away Monday, May 25, 2009 in Denver City.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Denver City Memorial Park with the Reverend John Hardison of Denton officiating. Services are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
Mrs. Parish was born in Attala County, Miss. in the Bear Creek Community near McCool, Miss. on June 19, 1909, to Richard Wade and Myrtle Johnson Wade. She attended Bear Creek School and taught school for a year before marrying Alies Peeler in 1929. She was a member of Berea Baptist Church and resided in the Berea community for 25 years.
She moved to Denver City in 1954. Mrs. Parish was a member of First Baptist Church of Denver City and was a homemaker. She married
Ira Parish in 1964. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Parish was also preceded in death by two daughters, Bettye Jo Clark in 1995 and Peggy Marie Cooke in 2003; a son, Ralph Peeler in 1999; and five brothers.
Survivors include, one daughter, Janette Neill of Amarillo; one sister-in-law, Ruth Wade of Taccoa, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Rita Peeler of Denver City; a son-in-law, Clifton Clark of Plano; six grandchildren, two being especially close to Grandma Susye, Christi Hardison of Denton and Greg Cooke of Monument, Colo.; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Isabel Sauseda
Isabel Sauseda, 90, of Lubbock died Sunday at Mi Casita Nursing Home. Mass of Christian burial will be said Friday May 29, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors. Rosary will be recited Thursday at 7 p.m. in W.W. Rix Chapel.
Mrs. Sauseda was born in Westoff. She married
Antonio G. Sauseda in August, 1934 in Elmendorf, and he preceded her in death March 25, 2000. Also preceding her in death are her daughter, Mary Helen Small in 1998; and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Antonio Sauseda of Chatsworth, Calif., Gilbert Sauseda of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; daughter, Georgina Casados of Bell Gardens, Calif.; along with ten grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorials in Isabel's name may be made to the Veterans Auxiliary.
John C. Dickey
Dr. John C. Dickey, MD, of Lubbock, died Sunday, May 24, 2009. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Lakeridge United Methodist Church.
A gathering of family and friends will be at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, Friday, May 29, 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Cathryn Shields
Cathryn "Cathy" Shields was born December 25, 1949 and passed away May 25, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Shields; daughter, Leslie Price; son, Matt Price; step-daughter, Misty Shields; father, Jim Murdough; brother, Conrad Vernon III and wife Linda; sister, Marianne Foster; nephew, Conrad Vernon IV; niece, Casey Nickowski; nephew, James Jordan Vernon; niece, Amy Tebow; and nephew, Brian Foster.
She attended grade school in Brownfield, Monterrey High School in Lubbock, then Texas Tech University and completed her college degree at the University of Texas at Arlington. She was a teacher at Workman Jr. High in Arlington, and after retiring, worked at Albertson's Grocery also in Arlington. She was an excellent and well known Bridge player and was nationally ranked. She will be missed by all in that she was always smiling and everyone's friend.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
