Zibby Ann Brown
Celebration services for Zibby Brown, of Lubbock, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Monterey Church of Christ. Zibby went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 8, 2009.
Zibby was born on November 15, 1935 in Jackson, Tenn. to the late Ralph G. and Elva (Parrish) Smith. She grew up in Georgia and attended David-Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tenn., where she met and married
William Wayne Wright. She lived in Valdosta, Ga., Gardena and Agoura Hills, Calif., and settled in Ventura, Calif., where Zibby received her R.N. degree from Ventura College. Zibby worked and lived in California for 40 years, moving to Lubbock eight years ago. Although Zibby was in the medical field as her profession, her life revolved around serving and giving to others. She was a member of the Monterey Church of Christ. She loved sports, the beach, photography and traveling. Zibby's life was centered on Christ, her church and her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda Joiner and husband Steve of Nashville, Tenn., Judy Reis and husband Steve of San Marcos, Calif. and Micki Maina and husband Mario of Turin, Italy; son-in-law, Mark Neumann of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren, Craig, Bryan, Courtney, Kyle, Kelsey, Melissa, David, Alessia, Annie, Jenna, Julia and Sophia.
Along with her parents, Zibby was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Gay Neumann, on August 5, 2003.

Ronnie Lee Pace, Sr.
Ronnie Lee Pace, Sr., 43, of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Covenant. He was born on August 4, 1965 to the parentage of Erma Jean Dockins and Vernon Lee Pace. After his graduation from Dunbar High School, he attended Prairie View A & M University, and then joined the Marines. He owned several clubs.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his long term companion, Tamara; four daughters, Erica Cisneros (Jacob), Destinee Cooper, Prechea and Schanel Pace; two sons, Anthony Smith (LaSonia) and Ronny Lee Pace, Jr.; mother, Erma Jean Dockins; five brothers, Tommy Briley (Rumel), Lowry Briley (Debbie), Larry Briley, James Briley (Joyce) and Dwight Briley (Cassandra); ten sisters, Pat Matthews, Janice Briley, Linda Briley, Francis Briley, Reba Holder (Glen), Ruby Neel Bond (Wilbert), Barbara Ann Pace, Paulette Pace, Leigh Ann Smith and Stacey Smith; special aunt, Theolia Giddens; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will follow at City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today and wake will follow from 6 to 8 p.m., both at Griffin Mortuary.
John E. McDermett
Memorial services for John E. McDermett, 82, of Lubbock will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Highland Baptist Church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. at Resthaven. Mr. McDermett passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009.
John was born on January 17, 1927 in Crosbyton to John D. and Belle Ellison McDermett. He graduated from Tucumcari, N.M. and Texas Tech University. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
John coached the Southwest Little League for 20 years and owned and operated Lubbock Paint Center from 1965 until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Gussie; two sons, John C. McDermett and wife Michele of Midland and David McDermett and wife Annette of Odessa; one daughter, Marilyn Clarkson and husband Steve of Spring; one sister, Billie Houston of Andrews; six grandchildren, Shaun and Kyle Clarkson, Halee and Brian McDermett, and Kaylin and Aubree McDermett.
Memorials are suggested to Interim Hospice or the donor's favorite charity.
Tess Flournoy
Graveside services for Tess Flournoy, 86, of Crosbyton will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 in the Crosbyton cemetery with Rev. Donna Brown officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
Tess passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at her Crosbyton home. She was born on April 2, 1923 in Burkburnett to the late Maudie Lou (Jordan) and Leonard Earl Brixey. She moved to Crosbyton in October of 1942, and on January 20, 1944 she married
E. H. Flournoy, Jr. in Crosbyton. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2003. She was a homemaker, a member of the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Dale Flournoy; a sister, Beatrice Karr; and a brother, Jack Brixey.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jerry and Beverly Flournoy of Spur and Johnny and Valerie Flournoy of Divide, Colo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Novis Ellis-Alheyari
Novis Ellis-Alheyari, 54, of Lubbock, died Tuesday at her home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, at in the Chapel of Broadway Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. this evening at Rix Funeral Directors.
Novis was born in Lubbock to Dr. and Mrs. Noel A. Ellis. She was a 1972 graduate of Lubbock Christian High School, and a 1979 graduate of Covenant School of Nursing.
She married
Issam Alheyari, October 2002, in Lubbock. She was a member of the Broadway Church of Christ.
Survivors, include her husband Issam Alheyari; one son, Joseph Ellis; one step-son, Yuzin Alheyari; a step-daughter, Deama Alheyari; and three grandchildren, Isabella, David, and Claire, all of Lubbock.

Alfonso Chacon
Alfonso Chacon, 77, of Odessa, formerly of Lubbock, passed away March 15, 2009, in Odessa. He was born on Jan. 23, 1932 in Castolon, Texas.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, with a rosary said at 7 p.m. at Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels. Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Joe Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at the Ector County cemetery in the Rose Hill Garden. Pallbearers will be Jose Luis Rodriguez, Charlie Chavez, Carlos Alvarez, Oscar Ramirez, Nick Chacon and Domingo Tavarez.
He was preceded in death by his first born child, Ramona Chacon; son, Alfonso Chacon, Jr.; grandson, Nino Chacon; Benita Chacon; parents, Nicasio and Elauteria Chacon; brother, Salvador Chacon; sister, Dominga Gomez; and Ernestina Chacon.
He is survived by seven daughters, Gloria Chavez of Odessa, Delma Alvarez of Odessa, Viola C. Ramirez of Lubbock, Graciela C. Rodriguez of Odessa and Linda Chacon, Maribel Chacon, Jacque Chacon, all of Odessa; three sons, Xavier Chacon of Lubbock, Hector Chacon, and Alfonso Louise (Ponchito) Chacon of Odessa; brother, Nick Chacon of Odessa; four sisters, Guillerma Hinojos and Neri Lujan of Odessa, Luisa Biscaino of Midland, and Eva Morales of Ojinaga, Chi, Mexico; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Doris Beck
Doris Beck, 84, of Brownfield, passed away Monday, March 17, 2009 at Brownfield Rehab and Care Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ken Horn officiating.
Doris was born on Aug. 31, 1924, to Gus and Maggie Estill in Mineral Wells. She moved to Brownfield with her family as a small child. She attended schools in Gomez and Union. She married
Raymond A. Beck on March 9, 1940, in Brownfield. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1983. She is also preceded in death by six sisters; three brothers; and six half brothers and sisters.
Doris is survived by four sons, Doyle Beck and his wife, Betty, of Shawnee, Okla., Mickey Beck, of Seminole, Danny Beck and his wife, Sharon, of Wynona, and Randy Beck and his wife, Sheila, of Lyndale; two daughters, Doris Jean Payne and her husband, Mike, of Brownfield, and Jean Ann Beck, of Maryland; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, James Fleming Estill, of Brownfield; her sister, Frances Allene Crawford, of Arlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will have a visitation from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday night.
Ruby Reed
Ruby Reed went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 15, 2009. She was born in Gainesville, Texas, on May 30, 1920, and graduated from New Deal High School in 1938. She was married
to Carlos Reed, Jan. 8, 1939. They were married
for 65 years, until his death on Oct. 11, 2004. She loved her family and her children, daughter in laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was happy with the basics in life and was outgoing, being a member of the Lubbock Women's Club and the Garden Club., She was a member of Monterey Church of Christ and raised her children to be Christians. She was always there to provide encouragement for her family in good times and in bad. She was a homemaker and enjoyed good friends and family.
She is survived by her three sons, Carl and Pat Reed of Lubbock, David and Pat Reed of Irving, Gary and Sherri Reed of Lubbock; five grand-children; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive family and friends from 5 - 7 p.m. today, at Resthaven at 19th and Frankford. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, at Resthavens' Abbey Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Ruby Reed's name to the Children's Home of Lubbock.
Jessie Leach Hindman
Jessie Leach Hindman, 95, of Spur, died Monday, March 16, 2009.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Spur, with Eric Swenson officiating. Interment will be in Spur Memorial cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
Jessie was born June 21, 1913, in Dickens County, to W.S. and Lucy York Leach. She was a 1932 graduate of Spur High School. She married
Lloyd Hindman, Dec. 18, 1932; he preceded her in death in 1999. Jessie was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two sisters.
Jessie is survived by two sons, Neal Hindman and wife, Nancy, of Spur, and Ray Hindman and wife, Cheryl, of Crosbyton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.

Doug Smallwood
Services for Doug Smallwood, 56, of Slaton, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Slaton’s First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Englewood cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Doug died March 16, 2009. He was born Jan. 16, 1953, in Slaton. He graduated from Southland High School in 1971. Doug earned a BS and a Masters from Texas Tech University. He was a research scientist at Lubbock’s TX A&M Experimental Station. Doug served his community with the Slaton EMS as a Paramedic and was a licensed Paramedic instructor. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 1094.
Doug married
Sue Brake on June 2, 1972. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Doug is survived by his wife, Sue; and son, David; daughter, Stephanie Kurtz; parents, Arthur “Big” and Dana Smallwood; a brother, Ronnie; along with two grandchildren. Doug is also survived by his in-laws, Nell and C. J. Rhoads; brother-in-law, Bob and wife.
