Vera Frances Ferguson
Vera Frances Bailey Ferguson, of Kerrville, passed away March 16, 2009. She was born on Feb. 13, 1917, in Hardeman County, Texas. She was a devout Christian and loyal member of the Baptist Churches in Lubbock, Taos, N.M., Snyder and Kerrville, where she also sang in the choir and had a genuine love for people and zest for life. Numerous nieces and nephews, whom she all called her children, survive her. She and her husband, John Holmes Ferguson, were married
for 60 years when he preceded her in death in 1998. Most of their married
life was in Lubbock, where Frances owned a gift shop and then worked with her husband at the Dixon Paper Company. After their retirement they moved to Taos, N.M. After his death, she moved to Snyder, and then to Kerrville.
Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19,, 2009, at Resthaven cemetery in Lubbock.

Betty J. Edwards
Betty J. Edwards passed away Monday, March 16, 2009. She was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Muleshoe, to Henry and Ima King. She lived in Lubbock most of her life and married
J. Wayland Edwards, Sr., on Dec, 20, 1941 Clovis, N.M. Rev. Edwards was the founding pastor of Southcrest Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1971. She worked was a homemaker and worked for St. Paul Insurance for a number of years.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann Cox and husband Wes of Lubbock; two sons, James “Jim” Edwards, Jr. and wife Ruth, of Arlington, and Dennis Edwards, of Lubbock; a brother, Henry King of Cary, N.C.; a sister, Mary Nell Ashton of Elk Grove, Calif.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Southcrest Baptist Church with Dr. David Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m.

Marshal Lloyd Galvez
Marshal Lloyd Galvez, 47, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 at his home in Omega Bay, Texas. He was born on May 31, 1961, to Robert and Lila Sue (Hicks) Galvez in Pueblo, Colo.
Marshal lived most of his childhood in Louisiana where he met his loving and devoted wife, Jacquelyn DuBois Galvez. Marshal and Jackie were best friends who enjoyed traveling together and spending time with family and friends. Marshal was a devoted husband, son, brother, teacher and friend. He was also a talented cook sharing many delicious meals with family and friends.
Marshal graduated from Lafayette High School in 1978. He attended the University Of Southwestern Louisiana (ULL) and received his Bachelors Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He was a teacher before becoming a Principal, lending his talents as an educator, to various schools in both west and east Texas for over 15 years. At the time of his death, he was a teacher at the Children's Center in Galveston. Marshal was a gifted educator who believed in, inspired and loved the students he taught. Marshal was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will also be missed by his beloved canine children, Emme Lou and Callie.
Affectionately known as "Huggy" by many, Marshal is survived by his loving wife of 26 years; his parents; his brothers, Gary Galvez (Jenny), of Youngsville, La., Jason Galvez, of Hereford, Paul Galvez, of Pampa, Anthony Galvez (Dolores), of Wolfforth, and Don Galvez, of Hereford. He is also survived by his nephew, Chris Galvez (Chamaine); Christian Galvez, his great-nephew; and his niece, Courtney Galvez. Additional survivors are his wife's parents, Andre'and Deanie DuBois, of Lafayette, La.; his brother-and sisters-in law and their families; and numerous of relatives and friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Fezzo's Hall, 100 Lions' Club Road, Scott, Texas 70583.

Florencio Flo Maldonado
Rosary services for Flo Maldonado, 53, of Slaton, will be 7 p.m., Wednesday, in Slaton's Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Resurrection Mass Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, in the same church. Burial will be in Englewood cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Mr. Maldonado died March 16, 2009. He was born Dec. 15, 1955, in Slaton, to Francisco and Maria Maldonado.
Flo was a Slaton native. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
His survivors include his brothers, Phillip Sr., Augustine, Juan, Aniceto, Estavan; and sisters, Janie Rodriguez, Clementia Castillo, Gloria Rivera, Oralia Cervantes, and Nieves Castaneda.
Marian Marie Barclay
Marian Marie Barclay, 83, of Kerrville, passed from this life for an eternity in Heaven on March 14, 2009.
Mrs. Barclay was born April 4, 1925 in Lubbock, to Edgar R. and Ethel L. Landers McCollum. After attending Lubbock High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, she married
Edgar M. Barclay in1943 and later resided in Lubbock. She was not only a wonderful mother to her children, a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, but she was also cherished by many people in the community where she was well known and loved.
She was an active member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church in Kerrville, a church that she loved dearly. For many years, she was active and a member of Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock. For most of their married
life, the Barclay family owned two different grocery stores and operated Ed’s Wagon Wheel Western Wear in the Lubbock community.
She is survived by her son, Ed Barclay and wife Nancy of Kerrville; daughter, Kay Roach and husband James of Tooele, Utah; brother, William E. (Bill) and wife Nell McCollum of Sachse, Texas; grandchildren, Jim Roach, Shanna Davis, Brooke Neff, Shea Shaver, Ryan Lindsey and Blake Barclay; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of many loving friends and neighbors along with her beloved church family.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, in the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock, TX 79407. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Veta Rae Tatum-Hancock
Veta Rae Tatum-Hancock, of Lubbock, was born to Nathaniel and Isabell McDonald, January 18, 1913 near Copperas Cove. Veta Rae passed from this earth September 6, 2009 at the age of 96 after a brief illness. Veta Rae graduated from San Marcos State Teachers College and Texas Tech with a degree in Home Economics. An avid reader, book reviewer, and world traveler, Veta Rae was a member of various ladies organizations in Lubbock and a member of Broadway Church of Christ for over 75 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Clyde G. Tatum; a son Clyde Tatum, Jr.; and husband of 11 years, Gene Hancock.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara May Thompson and husband Harry of Leesburg, Va., Neta Watts and husband Ted; a son, Claude Tatum II and wife Linda both of Lubbock; and a sister, Dora Jean Sandefer of Waco. Granddaughters include Nikki Frank and husband Bob of McLean, Va., Lisa Swearengen and husband Randy and Jill Watts all of Lubbock. Grandsons include Gerry Tatum and wife Diannah, and Jeff Watts and wife Marti both of Lubbock, Mac Tatum and wife Till of Euless, and Perry May and wife Yvonne of McLean, Va.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Veta Rae departed this world with a keen mind and a host of the most wonderful Christian friends.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at City of Lubbock cemetery with Dr. Harvey Pruitt officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

Mickey Smith
Funeral services for Mickey Smith, 35, of Levelland are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at First United Methodist Church Levelland with Rev. Rusty Dickerson, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ropesville cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home. He died Sunday, September 6, 2009 as the result of an automobile accident in Andrews. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the funeral home.
Mickey was born to Joe and Joan Smith on July 7, 1974 in Levelland. He married
Melinda Needham on December 6, 2004, in Levelland. He loved singing with his children, enjoyed fishing and being with family and friends. He was an oilfield driller.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, C. A. Smith; two aunts, Joyce Davis and Sue Lamn; and three uncles, Raymond, Walter, and Virgil Wright. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Smith; two daughters, Hannah Smith and Samantha Owen; his parents, Joe and Joan Smith; a brother, Kyle Smith and wife Angie; and his grandmother, Louise Smith, all of Levelland; his mother-in-law, Linda Lambright of Amarillo; and several cousins.
Ruby Phillips Brown
Ruby Phillips Brown, 76, of Lubbock passed away Sat. Sept. 5, 2009 at her residence. Ruby retired in 1999 from Atkins Junior High after 29 years of faithful service. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Grady Brown; sons, Larry Turner and Terry Brown; daughter, Renna Gates all of Lubbock; two brothers, Grady Phillips of Quitaque and Bill Phillips of Lubbock. She leaves behind in loving memories seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as special friends.
Visitation will be at Agape Funeral Chapel tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be at the City of Lubbock cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The family gives special thanks to NursCare Hospice of Lubbock.
Hilda Joan Nesmith
Hilda Joan Nesmith of Lubbock departed this life on September 6, 2009 at the age of 89 years. She was born March 28, 1920 in Ocker to Diedrich Gerhard and Mary (Dirndahl) Stolle. Hilda attended Southland High School. Mrs. Nesmith was a member of Sheperd King Lutheran Church in Lubbock. She was a Meat Wrapper at United Super Market until her retirement in 1983. She married
Bobby Lee Nesmith in Lubbock, December 17, 1948. He preceded her in death, January 27, 1971.
Those left to cherish her memory are one son, Diedrich O. and wife Cynthia Nesmith of Lubbock; one brother, Roy Stolle of Shallowater; one sister Ella Mae Stolle of Lubbock; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Beverly Craig. Hilda was a wonderful person and will be sorely missed by many.
Mrs. Nesmith was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Baby Nesmith; one son, Gary L. Nesmith; four brothers, Edmund Stolle, Walter Stolle, Leo Stolle, Arthur Stolle, and one sister, Pearl Stolle.
