Dorothy Nell Hutcheson
Graveside services for Dorothy Nell Hutcheson will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, at the Rest Haven cemetery in Quitaque, with Reverend John Dorn of the First Methodist Church officiating, Interment will be under the direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.
Dorothy went into the hands of our Lord on March 22, 2009. She was born in Memphis, Texas, on Feb. 27, 1919, to Marie Folley Lyles and Earl "Boy" Lyles. She lived all of her early years in Turkey, Texas, and graduated from the Turkey School on May 23, 1935.
On June 11, 1938, she married
Jack Lloyd Hutcheson in Turkey. She spent her early married
years in Quitaque, where she and her husband operated a ranching and farming operation. She also was head cashier at the First Notional Bank of Quitaque for a number of years. She and Jack moved to the Maple community in 1957 and farmed there until 1972. These years were very happy for her as she and her husband developed many close relationships with many people in the Maple community that they cherished for years. During these years, she was quite active in community affairs and school activities. They then moved to Dickens where she resided until moving to Lubbock in 1997.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; brother, Earl; and sister, Geraldine. Her survivors include daughter, Cindy Bridge and husband Alex of Conroe; son, J.L. Hutcheson of Lubbock; as well as three grandchildren, Emily Kayla, and Clayton Bridge of Conroe.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Furgeson, Wendell Williams, Ronald Coleman, Mark Lowe, Ronnie Altman and Clayton Bridge
The family suggests memorials to any Alzheimer's charities.
Tom Sanders
Tom Sanders, of Dimmitt, died peacefully surrounded by love on March 24, 2009, following a short illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. on Thursday March 26, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, Dimmitt, with burial immediately following at the Springlake cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home.
Tom was born Oct. 1, 1925, to Ilo Belle and Hobson T. Sanders, in Castro County. He was one of nine children. He grew up in the Springlake area and attended the Springlake School. He was in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 and served honorably aboard the Kadashan Bay (CVE-76) aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater. Following World War II Tom returned to Springlake and farmed, eventually retiring from the John Deere dealership in Olton, Texas. Tom then served as an officer and director of the Kadashan Bay Reunion Association.
Tom enjoyed fishing, traveling, sporting events, especially the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. He was first and foremost a true family man. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and "Papa Tom" to 21 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Aug. 7, 1948, he married
Wanda Dent in Olton, and she preceded him in death in 1971. On Nov. 1, 1974 he married
Edna Follis in Dimmitt.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Tom is survived by his wife, Edna Sanders; three daughters, Vicki Messer and husband Doug of Gruene, Texas, Becky Lindemood and husband David of Midland, Toni Martin and husband George of Kerrville; and son, Cliff Sanders and fiancé Neva Jenkins of Napa, Calif. Tom is also survived by two sisters, Jessie Ebling of Dimmitt and Rita Foster of Hurricane, Utah; ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chad Barden, Scott Douglas, Clint Huff, Joe Lindemood, George Martin, Jr., Mathew Martin, John Messer, Tom Messer, and Blake Rucker.

Mauricio Mindieta
Rosary for Mauricio Mindieta, 70, of Lubbock, will be 7 p.m. today, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, with Father Jim O'Connor officiating. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Richard Calvillo and Calvillo Funeral Home Staff.
Mauricio passed away on Monday; he was born on Nov. 12, 1938, in Runge, Texas, to the late Antonio and Usebia Mindieta. He moved to Lubbock in 1968 from Runge, and married
Sarah Gonzales on April 10, 1968, in Lubbock. He was a heavy machine operator for The City of Lubbock Landfill before retiring after 30 years of service. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, of Lubbock; two sons, Joe and Adrian, both of Lubbock; two daughters, Erma Mindieta and Olivia Mindieta, both of Lubbock; a sister, Demetria Salas, of San Antonio; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
J. Clifton ''Army'' Armstrong
J. Clifton "Army" Armstrong, 91, of Lubbock, passed away March 22, 2009. Services will take place on Wednesday, March 25, at 1 p.m. in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock.
He was born August 31, 1917 in Brown County to W.L. and Martha Armstrong. A poor, depression era farm kid, he borrowed money to enter Texas Tech, worked two jobs seven days a week, and graduated with honors in 1938. He joined the U.S. Navy at the start of WWII, and as a naval officer served as a bomb disposal and Japanese ordinance expert in Australia and New Guinea. Before leaving for the war, he married
his college sweetheart, Thelma Payne. The two were married
for 63 years before her passing in 2003. Army was a prominent C.P.A. in Lubbock for 58 years and also served in numerous civic and volunteer roles including coaching basketball at the Boys' Club and serving as treasurer for the United Way.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law; Nello and Suzy Armstrong of Irving, and Brent and Karen Armstrong of Lubbock; five grandchildren, J. Colton of San Antonio, Shanna of Lubbock, Cassidy of Dallas, Clayton of Austin, and Diane of Raleigh, N.C.; and one great-grandson, Payton of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Joel, who performed as a baritone with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
Isla Reynolds
Isla Reynolds, a longtime resident of Lubbock, died March 22, 2009 at the age of 92. Isla was born May 7, 1916 in Rising Star, TX to George and Sarah (Hawkins) Payne. She married
Andrew Reynolds; together they had two sons.
Those celebrating her life are son Ray and wife Beverly Reynolds of Lubbock; granddaughter Leslie and husband Conrad Jones of Friendswood; grandsons Richard Reynolds of Sulfur Springs, Andy and wife Tara Reynolds of Keller, and Randy and Lori Reynolds of Ft. Worth. She will also be missed by her daughter-in-law Gloria Reynolds of Paris, and her brother George Payne of Paradise, Calif. Six great-grandchildren will cherish her memories.
Isla is preceded in death by Andrew and one son, Andy Reynolds.
Family will receive friends and loved-ones on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Resthaven. Funeral Services for Isla will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Min. Gene Hawkins will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to South Park Baptist Church.
Bryant Maxey
Bryant Maxey, 85, of Lubbock, died Monday in Vista Care Hospice, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, at South Park Baptist Church, with Reverend Gene Hawkins, officiating. Burial will follow in the in City of Lubbock cemetery. His family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.
Bryant was born to Shell and Christine (Pipes) Maxey on April 14, 1923 in Heflin, La. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII, in the Pacific theatre. Bryant married
Geneva Tadlock. He was a member of South Park Baptist Church, and retired from Pollard Ford as a Mechanic in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva; one son, Jack Maxey and wife Veronica; three daughters, Carol Jennings, and husband, Dewayne, Jane Gibson and husband, James, all of Lubbock, and Jean Gibson and husband, Joe, of Seminole; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Ruth Morgan and husband, Calvin, of Minden, La.

Jessie Urnon Borum, Jr.
Jessie Urnon Borum, Jr., was born in Floydada, on Nov. 13, 1913, to Jessie Urnon Borum, Sr. and Myrtle (Sanderson). Jess was a little over 95 when he passed away Monday, the 23rd of March, 2009.
The Borum family moved to Floydada from Decatur. They owned and operated a hardware store and cotton farm. Jess grew up in Floydada, experiencing the difficult times of the great depression, working in his fathers store and on the family farm and graduated from High School in 1932. He attended West Texas State College in Canyon, continued his education at the University of Arkansas and completed his doctorate degree in optometry at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn.
Dr. Borum was stationed in Lubbock at the Lubbock Air base and later detached to a base in Arkansas during WWII. Following the war he completed his optometry and started his career in Littlefield, then later resumed his practiced in Childress, and owned and operated a small farm in nearby Kirkland for ten years before moving to Brownfield, where he practiced optometry for the remainder of his active years and also continued his love for the land with a small farm. Dr. Borum was honored by the American Optometry Association for 50 years of outstanding service in hi profession and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. In addition, he was honored for 50 years of perfect attendance and outstanding service buy the Rotary Club of Brownfield, where he was one of the founding members. He was an active member of the Brownfield Church of Christ and later the Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock after he moved here to retire, Jess was always in good spirits, very thoughtful of and others and very generous.
Dr. Borum was preceded in death by his wives, Barbara Sandefur(1975), Nina Coucanougher(1990) and Will Mae Coucanougher (2007); and two children, a son, Terry Don (1990) and a daughter, Brenda Smith (2008). He is survived by his granddaughter, Nicole Smith and son-in-law Winston Smith of Lubbock.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Franklin-Bartley Chapel burial will follow in the Terry County cemetery. His family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
Lawrence Bynum, Jr.
Lawrence Bynum, Jr., our beloved brother, father, grandfather, and friend, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 22, 2009. Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers will host a gathering of friends and family to remember his life of 75 years, Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A service of celebration will be 11 a.m. Thursday, at Lake Ridge Chapel followed by a graveside service at the City of Lubbock cemetery.
He was born on Aug. 5, 1933, in Tahoka, to Lawrence Bynum, Sr. and Allie Mae Curtis. He graduated from Plains High School and McMurry University. Larry was a Senior Executive Tax Representative with Shell Oil, 33 years.
He is survived by his children, Alton Craig Curtis of Seminole, Allen Brett Curtis and spouse, Tamera of Pierland, Texas, and Allison Dawn Gabay and spouse, Steve of Flowermound, Texas; six grandchildren; sisters, Donalee Warlick of Lubbock, and Joyce Schoepf of Levelland.
Roxanne Poulson Garry
On March 18, 2009, Roxanne Poulson Garry reached her final destination with her heavenly Father. Roxanne was raised in Lorenzo, after being born in Lubbock, on Oct. 31, 1953. Her parents, George Wayne and Betty Jo Poulson, along with her sister, Sheila Kay Butterfield, lived on a Lorenzo farm until she graduated from Lorenzo High School in 1972. She then went on to attend the University of Hawaii and Trinity University in San Antonio, before she moved to Austin, until 1978. Roxanne married
the love of her life, Patrick Franklyn Garry on Dec. 21, 1980. Three years later, she gave birth to her first and only child, Patrick Michael Garry, who she is survived by along with his wife, Mary, and son, Dalton, as well as her sister, Sheila.
Along with being a dedicated and loving mother, Roxanne served as an outstanding member of First Christian Church. She served as President of the Christian Women's Fellowship, was voted "Woman of the Year", served as a wedding coordinator, and prepared meals for church gatherings. Those gifted with the blessing of knowing Roxanne are proud to know that she is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Patrick, who passed on May 28, 2009. Her fun-loving spirit will forever be in our memories.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2009, at First Christian Church, 2323 Broadway Ave, with Rev. Dr. Michael Passmore officiating.
