Santos S. Sevier
Santos S. Sevier, 78, died on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009. She was born in Cristoval, Texas on March 18, 1931 and moved to Lubbock in 1964. She worked for Methodist Hospital from 1966, until her retirement in 1984.
Services for Ms. Sevier will be 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at Templo Bautista Iglesia. A prayer service will be Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in the WW Rix Chapel.
She is survived by her children, Mary Alice and husband Paul Ramirez, Martha and husband Joe Cavarrubio, Mario and wife Ruth Zavala, Ricardo Zavala and wife Maria Elizondo, Linda Gonzales, Erma Zavala and Pedro Zavala, Jr., all of Lubbock, Orlando and wife Gabriela Rodriquez of El Paso and Joel Coronado of Roswell, N.M.; 23 grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and her brother, Frank Sevier. Santos was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Anita (Soto) Sevier; a sister, Augustina Soto Duarte; and a grandson, Bobby Sanchez.
Although we are left here grieving your departure, we are at peace knowing you are dancing amongst angels in the presence of God, doing what your fragile body wouldn't allow you to do. Until we reunite, you will forever be in our hearts.
Lea Badillo Hinojosa
Lea Badillo Hinojosa, 36, passed away on the evening of Oct. 25, 2009. A visitation will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at Griffin Mortuary. Burial will follow at the City of Lubbock cemetery.
She was born on Dec. 15, 1972. She married
Rodolfo Hinojosa in February of 2004.
She is survived by her husband; three children, Crystal, 17, Tiffany, 15, and Mark, 14; and stepdaughter, Miranda, 9. She is also survived by her father, Pedro Badillo; brother, Leo Badillo; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Janie Badillo.
She will most be remembered by her contagious smile and loving heart.
Jane (Bowling) McCulley
Jane McCulley, 84, of Floydada, joined her Lord on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, in Lubbock.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Don Dawes officiating. Private burial will be at the Floyd County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
Jane Bowling was born on Sept. 7, 1925 in Bristow, Okla. to Joseph Elbert Bowling and Christie Carrie (Spoon) Bowling. She attended Bristow public school, and later attended Oklahoma Baptist University, where she earned her BS in Elementary Education. Jane was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Education Fraternity. She was a teacher, homemaker and a dental office manager. She married
Andrew G. McCulley on April 22, 1951 in Bristow, Okla. They moved to Floydada in 1954 from Amherst, Texas. The couple was blessed with three children, David Alan, Nan Ellen and Laura. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church.
Jane had a passion for travel, music, singing, playing piano and organ. She toured with and loved performing with the "Singing Women of West Texas" and "Proclaim". She appreciated the arts and had leadership roles in Great Books Studies and Plainview Community Concerts. She was honored with the Girl Scout Woman of Distinction Award.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Andrew G. McCulley.
Jane is survived by a son, David Alan McCulley and his wife Connie of Lubbock; two daughters, Nan Ellen Shirley of Ohio and Laura McCulley Morris and her husband S. Smith Morris of San Antonio; a sister, Norma B. Pasqualino of New York; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth McCulley of Amarillo and Geneva McCulley of California; grandchildren, Jim McCulley and his wife Leslie of Denver, Joe McCulley of Austin, Brent Shirley of Ohio and Jennifer Marie McCulley Morris of San Antonio; and great-grandchildren, Addison and Ayden McCulley of Denver.

Hazel Marie Collins Penny
Celebration of Life services for Hazel Marie Penny, 70, of Lubbock, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at Bethany Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home. Hazel passed away on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009.
Hazel Collins was born on Aug. 7, 1939 in Hockley County, Texas to the late Joe and Gladys Collins. She graduated from Whitharral High School. She married
the love of her life, Waylon Penny, on May 28, 1959 in Shallowater, Texas. Hazel was a resident of Austin from 1968 to 1993, when she returned to Lubbock. She was preceded in death by sisters, Lillian Davis and Geneva Harris; and a brother, M.L. Collins.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 50 years, Waylon; son, Jeff Penny of Lubbock; daughter, Robin Penny of Austin; two grandsons, Zack Penny of Lubbock and Corey Mooneyham of Austin; honorary granddaughters, Dominique Leija and Demi Leija of Lubbock; sisters, Nellie Jo of Lubbock, Dyphine Cate of Midland, Lucy Todd of Copperas Cove and Stella Fincher of Plano; brothers, Joe Dale Collins of Poteau, Okla., Bobby Collins of Lubbock and Jackie Collins of Ardmore, Okla.; and many family cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Grace Wylie Adcock
Grace Wylie Adcock was born in Houston, Texas on Sept. 21, 1914, daughter of a Presbyterian minister, Rev. Clarence Nelson Wylie and Nellie Agnes (Miller) Wylie. She graduated in 1932 from Central High School, Texas City, Texas, and in 1937 graduated with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Southern Methodist University of Dallas, Texas.
Grace taught school in Texas City before marrying Rev. Woodrow Wilson Adcock, a United Methodist minister, on Dec. 24, 1937 in Howe, Texas. She and Woodrow served pastorates in Texas at Howe, Valley View, Whitewright, Vera, Hale Center, Snyder, Pampa, Abilene, Amarillo, Brownfield, Lubbock, Seagraves and Stinnett. Woodrow preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1998. She resided in Lubbock for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her four children, Ruth Smith and husband Duggan of Granbury, Texas, Ann Fossler and husband Les of Hudson, Ohio, Woody Adcock and wife Carol of Lubbock and Beth Ankrom and husband Jerry of San Antonio; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at Carillon's Neil Chapel at 1717 Norfolk Ave.

Mary Tooke Frederick
Mary Tooke Frederick passed away on Oct. 25, 2009, at her home in The Colony, Texas, after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family and answered God's calling peacefully during an early Sunday morning.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct 29, 2009, at Dalton and Son Funeral Home in Lewisville, Texas. Rev. Judith Reedy of the First United Methodist Church of The Colony will officiate.
Mary Ardis Tooke was born on Oct. 31, 1950 in Shreveport, La. to proud parents C.A. Tooke and Beverly Bennett Tooke. Mary grew up in Shreveport and graduated from Byrd High school in May of 1968 and enrolled at the University of Mississippi in the fall. She met and married
Charles Hugh Frederick, Jr. on Aug. 21, 1971. Mary graduated from Ole Miss with a B.S. in Biology in 1972. She went on to earn her Registered Respiratory Therapy License in 1973 and Registered Nursing degree in 1992 from Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. During her 36 year healthcare career, Mary cared for everyone from the fragile infants of the Neonatal ICU, to the elderly patients of her home health care visits.
Mary will be remembered most for her kindness, strength and love of family. She spent most of her professional life showing kindness to her patients, and strength in raising her four boys to adulthood while working full time and love for family without condition. Mary loved her family without condition and provided a loving and nurturing home for her children. Her example and guidance set the foundation for her children to achieve great things. She will be deeply missed.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Charles Hugh Frederick, Jr.; four sons, Hugh, James, Matthew and John; daughter-in law, Heather; grandson, Bradley; sister, Martha Simmering; brother, Ardis Tooke; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.A. and Beverly Tooke; and sister, Francis Tooke Cooper.

Gene Clift
Gene Clift, 73, died on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, in Lubbock, Texas.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Northside Baptist Church in Abilene. Burial will be in Hawley cemetery directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home of Anson, Texas.
Born on May 15, 1936 in Jones County, Texas, Gene was a son of the late William and Nina (King) Clift. He was raised in Noodle and graduated from Noodle High School.
Gene married
Patsy McCollum on April 13, 1976 in Breckenridge. Gene was self-employed and was a member of the Church on the Rock in Lubbock.
Gene was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Clift; his parents; two brothers, Donald Clift and Jerry Clift; and one sister, Debbie George.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Clift of Lubbock; four sons, Bill Clift, Mike Clift, Cory Holly and wife LeeAnn, and Josh Clift; one daughter, Dayna Lewis; two brothers, Terry Clift and Tommy Clift; five sisters, Shirley Bogle, Bobbie Hall, Linda Clift, Carol Hall and Gwen Pritchard; 11 grandchildren, Lauren, Nicole, Dennis, Robin, Derek, Blake, Michael, Lindsey, Nathan, Austin, Allie and Ashley; mother-in-law, Helen Jordan; and four brothers-in-law, Jimmy McCollum, Wayne Miles, Travis Miles and Johnny Miles.

Woodward Earl ''Bull'' Shugart
Funeral services for Woodward Earl "Bull" Shugart, 58, of Levelland will be 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at First Assembly of God Church, Levelland, with Rev. Robert Burns, pastor, and Rev. Tim Turner of Cherokee Village, Ark., officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland cemetery under the direction of George Price Funeral Home. He died on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 in Levelland.
Born on May 18, 1951 in Levelland to L. A. "Son" and Mary Lee "Sal" Hanna Shugart, he graduated from Levelland High School in 1969. He was active in BSA and received his Eagle Scout at the age of 13, making him one of the youngest scouts to make Eagle in the history of the South Plains Council. He graduated from South Plains College in 1986 with high honors and he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. He also graduated from the Berean School of Ministry and had pastored churches in Texas and Colorado. From 1976 until 1995, he worked in the family business, Shugart Studios. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1977 as a Staff Sgt. in the security police. He was currently a self-employed trucker, leased to Landstar Express America. "Bull" married
Janet VanNess on Jan. 9, 1971 in Levelland.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Shugart of Levelland, Texas; two daughters, Carrie Gray and husband Sid of Lubbock and Melissa Shugart of Levelland; his mother and stepfather, Mary Lee "Sal" Shugart and Buddy Smith of Levelland; his brother, Edward Shugart and wife Jackie of Levelland; a sister, Sandra Douglass and husband Mike of Chama, N.M.; four grandchildren, Matthew Licano and Caitlin Licano, Hanna Godwin and Haven Godwin; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to Truck Stop Ministries.

B.W. Briggs, Jr.
B.W. Briggs, Jr., 60, of Allen, Texas, passed away on Nov. 2, 2009, in Richardson, Texas.
B.W. was born on Oct. 29, 1949 in Lubbock, Texas, to Billy Worth and Dorothy Grace (McCown) Briggs. He graduated from Sunset School of Preaching and Lubbock Christian University. B.W. was a retired minister and a member of the West Allen church of Christ in Allen, Texas.
He is survived by his sons, Billy Briggs and wife Katie of Allen, Texas, David Briggs, also of Allen, and Shawn Briggs and wife Jordan of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Brendan Briggs and Alexandra Briggs; sister, Gwen Boleyn of Amherst, Texas; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at the West Allen church of Christ in Allen, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at Littlefield Memorial Park in Littlefield, Texas.
