SNYDER - Services for Gus Sterling, 78, of Ira will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Ira cemetery.
Sterling died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Ira. He married
Jean Johnson on Jan. 26, 1942, in Rockwall. He was a member of Ira Baptist Church. He graduated from Ira High School. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a retired production superintendent and oil well operator. A son, Robert, died in 1986.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randy of LaGrange and Tommy of Ira; three sisters, Ilene Kruse of Ira, Wanda West and Helen Allen, both of Snyder; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Peggy Sowder
SUDAN - Services for Peggy Joyce Sowder, 66, of Littlefield will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Sudan with the Rev. Cliff Hargrove, pastor, officiating and Mike Sowder assisting.
Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park under the direction of Hammons Funeral Home.
She died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at Lamb Healthcare Center.
She was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Milam County. She married
Bill Sowder on Aug. 14, 1949, in Bailey County. They moved to Littlefield in 1982 from Bula. She worked as a bookkeeper and cotton buyer for Bula Gin and was a former member of the Bula Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Terry of Enochs and Jerry of Bula; two daughters, Joyce Risinger of Knox City and Rhea Lyn Newton of Ralls; two brothers, Kenneth Campbell of Edmonson and Lynn Campbell of Harmony Community; five sisters, Estelle Waldrop of Andrews, Geneva Wassom of Andrews, Glorice Pirkle of Plainview, Nina Edwards and Doris Mulkey, both of Roswell, N.M.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Johnny Salazar
TULIA - Services for Johnny Salazar, 24, of Midland will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Spanish Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Al Rocha of Odessa officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery under direction of Wallace Funeral Home.
Salazar died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, in Midland Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 3, 1974, in Tulia. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He attended Tulia schools, and he moved to Amarillo in 1982. He moved to San Antonio and returned to Amarillo in 1983.
Survivors include his mother, Rosa Salazar of Amarillo; his father and stepmother, Johnny Salazar and JoAnn Benavidez of Amarillo; a sister, Ida Janette Salazar of Amarillo; three brothers, Anthony Scott, Tito Lee and Isaiah, all of Amarillo; and his grandparents, Martha and Rafael Salazar of Tulia.
Homer Thompson
SIDNEY - Graveside services for Homer Elvin "Tommy" Thompson, 87, of Houston will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Pendergrass cemetery in Sidney with the Rev. Donald Bean officiating.
Burial will be under direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
Thompson died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, in The Woodlands.
He was born July 10, 1911, in Blanket. He married
Willie I. "Billie" Redwine on Nov. 23, 1938, in Blanket. She died March 6, 1995. He moved to Denver City in 1946. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He retired from Shell Oil Co., and he was a member of First Baptist Church of Denver City.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy McLemore of Conroe; three brothers, Clyde of McGregor, Jeff and Lawrence, both of Blanket; four sisters, Mary Pierce, Sarah Thompson and Alma Blackmon, all of Brownwood and Annie Rose of LaPorte; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Mary Utterback
DUBLIN - Services for Mary Lila Lorraine Stallings Smith Utterback, 90, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Harrell Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with burial in New Dublin cemetery.
She died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in Lubbock Hospitality Center.
She was born Sept. 12, 1908, in Dublin. She married
Caral Lee Smith in September 1927, in Wellington. He died in 1941. She married
Ben Utterback in 1964, and he died in 1984. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dublin. She was a member of the State of Texas Historical Society, and she was a charter member and president of the Dublin Historical Society. She was a member of the Methodist Guild for 60 years, and she was an officer of the Dublin Garden Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Alice Smith Wilkerson of Lubbock; three sisters, Altha Mae Hayes of Burleson, Nell Clayton of Irving and Juanita Bowles of Sundown; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth Browne
Memorial services for Elizabeth "Libby" Browne, 76, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home with Gerald Jackson officiating.

She died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, in University Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 20, 1922, in Brownsville, Pa. She worked for the Voice of America and Department of Defense in Washington, D.C., for 40 years. She was a member of St. Gabriels Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. She moved to Lubbock in 1994, and she served as a volunteer for the Help One Student to Succeed program in the Lubbock Independent School District. She attended the Adult Day Activity Center in Lubbock.
Survivors include two daughters, Elise Browne of Lubbock and Carol L. Browne of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren; and a brother, Carl S. Jones of Brownsville, Pa.
Juanita Newsom
BROWNFIELD - Services for Juanita Newsom, 85, of Brownfield will be at 4 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don McWhorter, senior adult minister, officiating.

She died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in Brownfield.
She was born Nov. 1, 1913, in Harteman County. She married
R.D. "Dude" Newsom on May 2, 1942, in Brownfield. He died March 9, 1998. She moved to Terry County from Dawson County. She graduated from Brownfield High School and Brownfield General Hospital Licensed Vocational Nursing School. She was a nurse until retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church. A son, Bucky Newsom, died Nov. 13, 1984.
Survivors include two sisters, Dixie Burch of Brownfield and Sammy Dildine of Andrews; two brothers, Jack Tankersley of Travers City, Mich., and Bill Tankersley of Brownfield.
Grace Cannaday
Services for Grace Cannaday, 88, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Friday at W.W. Rix Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Tedder officiating.
Burial will be in City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.
She died Monday, March 1, 1999, at Heritage Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 21, 1910, in Eastland. She married
Troy B. Cannaday on Nov. 20, 1931, in Eastland. He died in 1964. She owned and operated the Fiesta Grill in the Fiesta Bowling Alley for many years. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School.
Survivors include a daughter, Leora Conditt of Clovis, N.M.; three sons, Jimmy of Rio Rancho, N.M., Roy of Lexington, Ky., and Lynn of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Gilman Kinard of Wilcox, Ariz.; a sister, Gladys Spears of Lufkin; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was born March 14, 1915, in Fort Stockton. She married
Francisco Madrid on Oct. 12, 1934, in Mexico. He died Sept. 25, 1972. A son, Juan Carlos, died Jan. 20, 1993, and a daughter, Olivia Madrid, preceded her in death. She moved to Stanton from Mexico in 1946. They bought a farm in the Stanton/Midland area. They moved to Midland in 1985.
Survivors include six sons, Richard of Midland, Ben of Pecos, Frank of Austin, Leopoldo of Denton, Armando and Raul, both of Midland; four daughters, Eva Johnson of San Antonio, Gloria Martinez of Austin, Rosa Arista of Big Spring and Lupe Madrid of Midland; three brothers, Manuel Lujan and Alvarado Lujan, both of Odessa and Simon Lujan of Presidio; eight sisters, Elvira Calderon, Victorina Acosta and Maria Hernandez, all of Odessa, Rosa Levario and Graciela Brito, both of California, Isidra Pedraza of Midland, Anita Carro of Ojinaga, Mexico, and Aurelia Carro of Chihuahua, Mexico; 28 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was born Oct. 18, 1914, in La Planta County, Colo. She married
Dallas Glenwood Oliver on June 5, 1935, in Aztec, N.M. They moved to Andrews in 1977. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Andrews. Her husband died July 9, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, John L. of Andrews and Gary D. of Aztec, N.M.; a sister, Ruby Fogle of Highland, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Claude Fuller

Hazel Wynell Smith on June 27, 1954, in Lovington, N.M. He worked many years in the oil field. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Paula Dixon of Odessa and Debbie Muldrow of Galveston; two sons, Larry of Whitewright and Randall of Cleburne; two brothers, James of Blum and Charles of Silverdale, Wash.; two sisters, Jean Cochran of Odessa and Caroline Sue Houston of Los Lunas, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

John Dunaway on Nov. 21, 1936, in Jayton. He died May 26, 1987. She and her husband owned Southside Grocery in Jayton, and they moved to Spur in 1941. They farmed and were part owners of Spur Supermarket in Spur. She owned Lulene's Dress Shop in Spur from 1959 until 1964. They moved to Spur from Mineral Wells in 1981.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Spring and Bobby of Coppell; a brother, Travis Hoover of Spur; five sisters, Marie Brantner of Jayton, LeeOma Cross and Norma Arnold, both of Spur, Robbie Brisco of Levelland and Eurena Morin of Lubbock; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
