LITTLEFIELD - Services for Doyce Oren Hutto, 75, of Littlefield will be at 3 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Littlefield with Rev. Larry Williams, a retired minister, officiating.
Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park under direction of Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield.
Hutto died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Lamb Healthcare Center.
He was born May 1, 1923, in Haskell County. He married
Billie Maxine Spann on Jan. 14, 1944, at Levelland. He had lived in Littlefield since he and Maxine married
. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War ll. After returning home from the military in 1946, he farmed in Lamb County until he retired in 1987. He had also served as a custodian for the Littlefield Independent School District for a year. He was a member of the Littlefield Senior Citizens, and a member of First Baptist Church of Littlefield.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Wayland Hutto of Olney Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Linda King of Lubbock and Kimberley Schoekel of Savannah, Ga.; two brothers, Spurgeon Hutto of Dimmitt and Eddie Ray Hutto of Clovis, N.M.; a sister, Lafurne Harris of Odessa; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Littlefield EMS, the Littlefield Senior Citizens, or to First Baptist Church of Littlefield.
Spurgeon Hutto
OCTOBER 9, 1913 - FEBRUARY 9, 2008
S.R. Hutto was born October 9, 1913 in Rule, Texas.
He was the son of Wilson and Lake Hutto, and the 2nd of nine children.
Upon graduation from Spur High School, he attended Abilene Christian College for three years, where he participated in track and field.
S.R. married
Oneida Reding, September 28, 1940, in Lubbock, Texas. S.R. worked in Lubbock for two years before moving to Amarillo where he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until 1948.
At that time, they moved to Southland, Texas, where they began their career in farming. In 1953 they moved to Castro County where they continued to farm.
During his farming career S.R. was involved in the marketing of cotton, grains and swine.
His interest in swine led to his involvement with young people in various swine projects. T
his interest in high quality pigs led to several prize winning animals.
In addition to working with the youth, S.R. served on the Board of Directors for the Hart Producers Coop Gin.
Anselmo Alcocer Jr.
HART - Vigil services for Anselmo Alcocer Jr., 44, of Hart will be at 8 p.m. Monday in St. John's Catholic Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Catholic Church with the Rev. Guillermo Morales, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Hart cemetery under direction of Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home.
Alcocer died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, in Hart.
He was born Oct. 1, 1954, in Tulia. He moved to Dimmitt from Nazareth in 1987. He graduated from Hart High School in 1974. He was a Catholic and agriculture laborer.
Survivors include his parents, Pete and Florinda Barretero of Hart; two sisters, Concepcion Lara of Morehead, Minn., and Julia Perez of Amarillo.
Karlene Cross
MATADOR - Services for Karlene Cross, 59, of Matador will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Church of Christ in Matador with Michael G. Crowley, minister, officiating.
Burial will be in East Mound cemetery in Matador under direction of Seigler Funeral Home.
She died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in Crosbyton Hospital.
She was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Dumont. She graduated from Matador High School in the Class of 1958. She married
Jim Cross in 1962. She lived in Wyoming and Nevada, and she returned to Matador in 1981. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Audie Cross of Elko, Nev.; two daughters, Tonda Dale of Las Vegas, N.M., and Loretta Weeks of Battle Mountain, Nev.; two brothers, John Smith of Dumont and Keith Smith of Paducah; and 10 grandchildren.
Ouida Thompson
Memorial services for Ouida Thompson, 94, of Lubbock will be at 10:45 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park in front of the Mausoleum.
She died Sept. 23, 1998.
She was born Sept. 12, 1905. Her body was donated to Health Sciences School of Medicine at Texas Tech. She worked as a seamstress for Spear Furniture during the 1960's and 1970's.
Monroe Hill
SEMINOLE - Services for Monroe James Hill, 76, of Seminole will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Community Chapel with the Rev. Jessie Turner, Brownwood, officiating.
Burial will be in Gaines County Memorial cemetery North under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
He died Thursday, May 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 20, 1922, in Naples. He moved to Seminole in 1964 from Omaha, Texas. He married
Betty Louise Johnson on April 14, 1952, in Lubbock. He was the minister of Morning Star Church of Seminole and Levelland for 35 years and was a custodian for Seminole Independent School District for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife; eight sons, Dwayne L. Hill of Oklahoma City, James Hill of Frisco, Donald Hill of Plainview, Jonathan Hill and David Hill, both of Seminole, Dwight Hill of Fort Sam Houston, Jerrold Hill of Seminole and Darrell Hill of Lubbock; eight daughters, Janet Williams of Lubbock, Ruth Peoples of Abilene, Janice Bell and Debra Crow, both of Lubbock, Deanna Turner of Brownwood, Joan Adams of Seminole, Jacqueline Hill of Seminole and De Angela Sanders of Mesquite; 32 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Herman Williams
PLAINVIEW - Services for Herman Williams, 73, of Plainview will be at 1 p.m. Friday in New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Jenning officiating.
Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park under direction of Ossie Curry Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Williams died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Teague. He married
Louise Shaw in March 1956, in Plainview. She died Dec. 3, 1997. He moved to Plainview from Bedoak. He was a member of New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Southwestern Grain after 24 years.
Survivors include seven sons, Frankie L., Jerry and Bobby Ray, all of Dallas, Bryant of Charlotte, N.C., Larry of Plainview, Craig S. of Midland and Marlin of Livingston; five daughters, Mary L. Ivy and Erma J. Williams, both of Dallas, Debra K. Williams of Plainview, Patricia Morrison of Charlotte, N.C., and Rita Fay Williams of Plainview; a sister, Mae Francis Bugsby of Corsicana; 32 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Edith Abbott
Graveside services for Edith Abbott, 87, of Carmichael, Calif., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in City of Lubbock cemetery with the Rev. Jack Tudor officiating.
Services are under direction of Rix Funeral Directors.
She died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in Mercy Hospital in Sacramento, Calif.
She was born Feb. 9, 1912, in O'Dell. She married
Robert E. Abbott in Idalou in 1946. She had lived in Lubbock and worked for the telephone company here. She moved to Carmichael, Calif., 43 years ago and was a retired employee of the State of California.
She was a member of the El Camino Baptist Church in Carmichael.
Survivors include her husband, a sister, Lorene Blake of Lubbock; a niece of Portland, Ore.; and a nephew of Shallowater.
The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
