L.J. Haley
Services for L.J. Haley, 77, of Lubbock will be at 11 a.m. today in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with the Rev. Paul Jantzen, a pastor at Trinity Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Haley died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at University Medical Center.
He was born June 9, 1921, in Cooper. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married
Helen Pickens in 1943 in Dallas. She died Dec. 22, 1982. He had been a Lubbock resident since 1944.
He retired as foreman with Farmers Coop Compress. He then worked at Lubbock Wholesale Florist.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Haley and Joan Haley, both of Lubbock; a son, Richard A. of Lubbock; six brothers, Edward and Tommy, both of Lubbock; Paul of Fort Worth, Robert of Tyler, Hulen of Richmond, Va., and J.C. of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two sisters, Helen Gholson of Lubbock and Lena Wallace of Albuquerque.
Wilton Bodkin
OLTON - Graveside services for Wilton R. Bodkin, 82, of Olton will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Olton cemetery with the Rev. Sam Estes of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lubbock officiating.
Burial will be under direction of Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home.
Bodkin died Monday, April 19, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 29, 1917, in Maud, Okla. He married
Hester Mae Burns on July 25, 1937, in Lubbock. He moved to Olton from Maud, Okla., in 1928. He was a member and elder of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lubbock. He was a farmer and a member of Olton Masonic Lodge 1257. He was a member of the Lubbock and El Paso Scottish Rites.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Wayne of Weatherford, Royce of Plano, Mike of Houston and Pat of Olton; a brother, Leroy of Hereford; a sister, Elsie Petty of Memphis; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Joe Bautista
MORTON - Services for Joe Bautista, 47, of Morton will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Ann's Catholic Church with the Rev. Leonardo Pahamtang officiating.
Burial will be in Morton Memorial cemetery under direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Bautista died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, in Cochran Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 24, 1951, in Morton. He married
Ninfa Flores on Feb. 23, 1974, in New Home. He was a lifetime resident of Morton. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Morton. He was a 1969 Junior Golden Glove Boxing Champion. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Omar Louis and Jason, both of Morton; his father, Joe Bautista of Morton; four sisters, Aurora Dominguez of Fort Worth, Lucy Lovington of Hereford, Dolores Acosta of Ralls and Ana Marie Bautista of Portales, N.M.; and a brother, Arnold of Levelland.
Santos Escamilla
Rosary will be recited for Santos Aguirre Escamilla, 71, of Lubbock at 7 p.m. today in Shallowater's St. Phillips Catholic Church.
Funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the same church with the Rev. Nicholas Rendon officiating.
Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Chapel of Angels Funeral Home.
She died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in Covenant Medical Center.
She was born March 29, 1927, in DeWalt. She married
Inez Escamilla Sr. in Wharton on May 2, 1942. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. She had been a resident of the Lubbock area since 1958.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Enos Escamilla Jr. and Richard Escamilla, both of Lubbock; six daughters, Eudelia Valverde of Shallowater, Rose Maria Garcia, Alice Florez, Delores Vecchio and Josie Trevino, all of Lubbock, and Lupe Sanchez of Amarillo; a sister, Margaret Gonzalez of Yuba City, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the church from Monday afternoon until service time.
Jewell McIlroy
GRAHAM - Services for Jewell Quinn McIlroy, 77, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Finfrock, pastor of Oak Street Baptist Church in Graham, officiating.
Burial will be in Pioneer cemetery in Graham.
She died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999.
She was born July 12, 1921, in Ballinger. She married
Gordon Henry Quinn on Aug. 13, 1939, in Cisco. He died Feb. 26, 1983. She moved to Graham from Breckenridge in 1942. She married
Dale McIlroy in April 1997. She was a former member of the Women's Club, Garden Club and past president of the Desk and Derrick Club in Graham. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. She was a retired bookkeeper.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Joanne Bigham of Lubbock; three sons, Gordon of Iowa Park, David of Dallas and Doug of Newcastle; two stepchildren, Ron McIlroy and Gina Ferguson, both of Lubbock; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Rubin Lawson
Services for Rubin R.D. Lawson, 78, of Wolfforth will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Wolfforth with the Rev. Mark McMillan officiating.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Caradan cemetery in Mills County with the Rev. Bill Swindler officiating.
Services are under direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Lawson died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, in Lubbock Health Care Center.
He was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Cypress Inn, Tenn. He married
Omino Young on Dec. 21, 1940, in Goldthwaite. He a was a retired carpenter with Texas Tech. He was a member of the Wolfforth Frenship Lodge 1447 Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wolfforth.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Johnny of Lubbock; a daughter, Judy of Lubbock; two grandchildren.
Gladys Whitacre
PLAINVIEW - Services for Gladys Horton Whitacre, 95, of Plainview will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Max Browning, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Michael Struve, chaplain of Covenant Health Care Systems in Lubbock, will assist.
Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park under direction of Lemons Funeral Home.
She died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, in Hi-Plains Hospital in Hale Center.
She was born Sept. 14, 1903, in Osceola. She married
Cecil A. Whitacre on July 16, 1929, in Plainview. He died March 19, 1976. She moved to Hale Center in 1909. She graduated from Hale Center High School. She attended West Texas Normal College and received a teaching certificate. She taught at Hale Center for 17 years, where she was also principal. She moved to Plainview in 1952 and taught biology. She chartered the Junior National Honor Society at Plainview High School. She was a retired teacher and a member of Plainview Delphin Club. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, First United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gammas Sorority.
Survivors include a sister, Minnie Horton Struve of Abernathy.
Mildred Deptula
ROARING SPRINGS - Mildred Deptula, 76, of Roaring Springs died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at her home.
No services are planned. Her body was donated for medical research. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador.
She was born Dec. 12, 1922, at Burkburnett, and is formerly of Amarillo. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She lived in Roaring Springs the past 17 years.
She was preceded in death by a husband, Alfred Barrett Smith, in 1988.
Survivors include her husband, John R. Deptula of Roaring Springs; three daughters, Sharon Caffy of Lubbock and Toni Oldfather and Susan Gaines, both of Austin; a stepson, Raymond Deptula of Germany; a stepdaughter, Mari Deptula of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
