ANGELINE TOMASEK BALUSEK

A Rosary for Angeline Tomasek Balusek, 92, of El Maton, will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Catholic cemetery. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Balusek was born March 6, 1903 in Buckholts, Tx. to Anton Tomasek and Annie Patka Tomasek. She died Jan. 2, 2001. She was a lifelong resident of El Maton, a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and a member of the Blessing Altar Society and the S.P.J.S.T. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Mary Ellen and Eugene Jekel of New Braunfels, Rosemary and Jake Foltyn of El Maton, Susie and Valton McDonald of Deer Park, and Evelyn and Frank Michalik of El Maton; sons and daughters-in-law Raymond and Willa Dean Balusek of Deer Park, and Emil L. and Donie Balusek of Pasadena; a sister, Matilda Havlik of Cameron; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil L. Balusek in 1960; her parents, Anton and Annie Tomasek; a grandson, Dr. Steven McDonald; two sisters; and two brothers.

JAMES EDWARD 'JAY' GOLDEN, JR.

Funeral services for James Edward "Jay" Golden, Jr., 37, of Palacios, were scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Dr. James Ely and Rev. Ralph Smith officating. Interment was in Scranton, PA. Mr. Golden was born May 14, 1963 in Scranton, PA. to James Edward Golden, Sr. and Donna Knight Golden. He died Dec. 28, 2000. He was a member of the Catholic Church, a resident of Palacios for the past five years, and was employed as an electrician with United Electrical Contractors. He is survived by his wife, Grace 'Dee' Golden of Palacios; a daughter, Kassidhe Jayne Golden of Palacios; a step daughter, Monica Marie McEntire of Austin; his parents, James and Donna Golden of Scranton, PA.; sisters Maggie McLane and Kate Andrews of Pennsylvania; brother, Edward Golden of Maryland; and a step grandson, Weston McEntire of Austin, Tx.

MARGARET ANN SHERROD

A Funeral Mass for Margaret Ann Sherrod, 80, of Las Vegas, Nev. were held Dec. 28, 2000 in Fort Bliss Chapel No. 2 in El Paso, Tx. Interment was in Fort Bliss National cemetery. Mrs. Sherrod died Dec. 21, 2000. She was an optometry technician and a former longtime resident of El Paso. She is survived by her husband, Lilbourne Wayne Sherrod; her sons Michael Sherrod of Palacios and Timothy Sherrod; her daughters Cynthia Sherrod and Patricia Sherrod; two brothers; one sister; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

RUTH HOOD SCHIER

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Hood Schier, 87, of Bellville and a former Palacios resident, were held Dec. 23, 2000 at the Bellville United Methodist Church, followed by interment in the Sealy cemetery. She died Dec. 22 at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. The daughter of the late Ralph and Minnie Chamberlain Hood, she weighed just 1 1/2-pounds when she was born prematurely at Spring Green, Wis., on June 15, 1913, after her mother had been struck by lightning. She was a descendant of General John Bell Hood and a distant relative of former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. At the age of 13, she moved with her family to Palacios and resided her until her marriage to Elmore Schier of Sealy in 1932. A creative and talented person who mastered any task she attempted, Mrs. Schier created her own patterns and designs for clothing, and was also skilled at wall papering, upholstery, painting, lighting creating and repair, and carpentry. Survivors include her children and spouses, Dorris and Bruce Warburton, Evelyn and Jack Boggan, all of Bellville, and John and Pat Schier of Austin; one sister, Viola Reader of Houston; grandchildren James Lane and Robert Bruce Warburton, Elizabeth Ruth and Christi Schier, Jeff and John Boggan, Lisa Menke, Jacque Fenster and Linda Murski; and great-grandchildren James, Carrie and Charles Griffin, Brittany and Mindy Menke, Maci Menke, Nathan, Nicholas and Sean Fenster, Adriana and Jackson Boggan, and Steven and Ashley Murski. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died in 1986; and a brother, Sammy Hood. Pallbearers were Robert, James and Bruce Warburton, John, Jeff and Jack Boggan, Darrell Murski and Matt Menke. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial gifts may be made to the Bellville United Methodist Church, 234 S. Masonic, Bellville, Tx 77418; or to Paws, 213 N. Granville, Bellville, Tx. 77418.

DAVID RANDOLPH BOLLING, SR.

Graveside funeral services for David Randolph Bolling, Sr., 82, of LaWard, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000 at the Palacios cemetery with Revs. Andy and Janell Blair officiating. Mr. Bolling was born Nov. 2, 1918 in Palacios to John William Bolling and Amanda Ruth Jamerson Bolling. He died Dec. 14, 2000 in Edna. Mr. Bolling was a retired rancher, a member of the first Presbyterian Church of Palacios, and a lifelong resident of Matagorda and Jackson counties. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Melbourn Bolling of LaWard; a daughter, Helen Lucille Bolling of LaWard; sons Richard Truman Bolling of LaWard and David Randolph Bolling, Jr. of San Antonio; a sister, Margaret Bolling McCary of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Amanda Ruth Bolling; a son, James Thomas Bolling; a sister, Mary Bolling Cunningham; a brother, John William Bolling, Jr.; and one grandchild. Pallbearers are Henry Zarate, Gary Beyer, Danny Stephens, David Frankson, Jr., David Randolph Bolling III, Ryan Brandon Bolling, and Jack Linden Seaquist, II. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

JANET K. MORGAN

Janet K. Morgan, 48, of Fort Worth and formerly of Palacios, died Dec. 11, 2000 in Forth Worth. She was a waitress and loved by everyone she met. A very religious person, she fought a very courageous battle with cancer and was proud to be cancer-free when she died of heart failure. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Pat Morgan of Fort Worth; her mother, Carrie May Jurek of Wharton; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Sherry Ridley of Houston; and a sister and brother-in-law, Tinker and Charles Jenkins of Palacios. She was preceded in death by her father, Denver Jurek.

LUCILLE GUYNES

Funeral services for Lucille Guynes, 62, of Blessing, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2000 at the First Baptist Church of Blessing with Rev. Mark Clements officiating. Interment will be at Hawley cemetery. Mrs. Guynes was born Feb. 18, 1938 in New Orleans, La. to Wade Tindall Herrington and Louise Elizabeth Schneider Herrington. She died Dec. 8, 2000. She was a resident of Blessing for the past 23 years and a member of the First Baptist Church of Blessing. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Guynes of Blessing; her mother, Louise Herrington of Tomball, Tx.; daughters Natasha Leigh Humplik and husband, Paul, of Corpus Christi, and Teresa Nell Magee of Midfield; sons Jody Allen Guynes and wife, Charlene, of El Campo, Gregory Wayne Guynes and wife, Mary, of Alvin, and William Martin Guynes of Blessing; brothers Richard Herrington of Tomball and Tindall Herrington of North Carolina; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Wade Tindall Herrington; grandson, Darin Guynes; and son-in-law, Michael Magee. Pallbearers are Jody A. Guynes, Gregory W. Guynes, William M. Guynes, Paul Humplik, Mike Ellis, Shane Hahn, Paul Hahn and Gabriel Nalley.

LUPE LONGORIA, SR.

Funeral services for Lupe Longoria, Sr., 69, of Palacios, were held Dec. 9, 2000 at the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios with the Rev. Samuel Puccio officiating. Interment wwas at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Longoria was born July 9, 1931 in Palacios to the late Charlie and Faustina Rojas Longoria, Sr. He died Dec. 5, 2000. He was a commercial fisherman and a Presbyterian. Mr. Longoria is survived by his wife, Lydia Guerra Longoria; daughters and sons-in-law Hope and Richard Corbello of Houston and Brenda and Vincent Reina of Boling; sons and daughters-in-law Lupe Jr. and Julie Longoria, Ernest Longoria, Victor Longoria and Vincent and Laura Longoria, all of Palacios; sisters Eva Trevino and Dora Deleon, both of Palacios, and Marina Placenio of Clute; brothers Charlie Longoria Jr., Felix Longoria and Frank Longoria, all of Palacios, and Adam Longoria of Newport News, Va.; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricardo Longoria; and sister Esmeralda Longoria. Pallbearers were Lupe Longoria, III, Mark Longoria, Charlie Longoria, Jr., Freddie Longoria, Mark Latapie and Joey Mijres.

ALBERT SIDNEY 'DUTCH' REYNOLDS

A memorial service for Albert Sidney (Dutch) Reynolds, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 2, 2000 in the Chapel at The Hospice at the Texas Medical Center in Houston with Hospice Chaplain Jim Barclift officiating. Interment will be at the Palacios cemetery. Mr. Reynolds was born Aug. 6, 1913 in Palacios to David Hiram and Mary Powell Reynolds. He died Nov. 27, 2000. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 1881st Engineer Aviation Battalion in New Guinea, Leyte and Luzon. His peacetime occupation was that of geophysical seismograph surveying in many states with Taylor Exploration and Amerada Hess. He is survived by nephews George Reynolds, Jr., and Elbert Reynolds Glaze; niece Edna Mayo Heath; great nephews Charles and John Glaze; great nieces Leanna Jackson and Sharon Reynolds; as well as Christopher Reynolds and Lauren Elizabeth Glaze.

MYRTLE FAYE REED

Funeral services for Myrtle Faye Reed, 89, of Palacios, will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 2, 2000 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Maxwell, former pastor of the First Baptist Church and Rev. Hollis Hoffman officiating. Mrs. Reed was born Dec. 7, 1920 in Purvis, Tx. to farming parents Prior Calloway Burnett and Lucy Erella Box Burnett. She died Nov. 28, 2000 after a lengthy stay at Palacios Health Care and Valley View Health Care in Eastland, Tx. following a massive stroke in November 1990. She settled in Palacios in 1946 where she met and married Percy Hillmon Reed. She dearly loved her Lord Jesus, her family, and her church and that is her legacy. She is survived by her sons, Jack Allen Bradshaw of Eastland, Tx., Bobby Linden Bradshaw of Burnet, Tx., and William Walter Reed of Tampa, Fla.; daughters Alice Reed Haley of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mary Louise Reed Tucker of Melbourne, Fl.; sisters Opal Cox of Sun City, Calif., Frances Butler of Glen Rose, Tx., and Fern Kenneady of Dallas, Tx.; 20 great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy H. Reed; sons Billy Dean Bradshaw and Carl Arthur Bradshaw, all of Palacios; her parents; and several of her siblings. Pallbearers are Jack Bradshaw, Allen Bradshaw, Bobby Bradshaw, Gordan Bradshaw, Frank Haley, John Carrol Sardelich, Noah Haley, Ted Bates Jr., and Wayne Bradshaw. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Baptist Convention International Mission Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, 202 Main, Palacios, Tx. 77465.
