Funeral services for Kerry James Ressler, 55, of Mineola, Tx. and formerly of Palacios, were held Sept. 17, 2000 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hollas Hoffman officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Ressler was born Jan. 26, 1945 in Bay City to Joseph ambrose and Katherine Jean Dodd Ressler. He died Sept. 14, 2000. He was a resident of Mineola for the past 12 years and a member of the Baptist church. He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Katherine Ressler of Palacios; a son, Jim Ressler of Chamblee, Ga.; a sister, Robin Grace of Dripping Springs, Tx.; and two grandchildren.
JOSEPHINE IZORAH HALLIDAY LEADFORD
Funeral services for Josephine Izorah Halliday Leadford, 86, of Mertzon, Tx., formerly of Hallettsville and Palacios were scheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 16, 2000 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brett Moreland officiating. Mrs. Leadford was born Aug. 28, 1914 in Corsicana, Tx. to Mary Tennie Jones and George Roger Holiday. She died Sept. 12, 2000 at San Angelo, Tx. "Nanny" as everyone called her, was a caring and loving, but strict mother, grandmother and great grandmother to many. She was a resident of Palacios most of her life and graduated from Palacios High School in 1932. She has resided in Metzon, Tx. with her daughter Carla and son-in-law, Jim for the past 4 years. She is survived by a son, Larry Ashley, of Copperas Cove Tx.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jane Leadford of Medina; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Ray Posgay of Friendswood; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Jim Reeves of Mertzon, Tx.; sister-in-law, Leona Bluhn of Three Rivers; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Velma and Robert Byers of Palacios; niece Mary Ruth Tassler of Port Lavaca; nephew, Jack Halliday of Houston; cousin, Tom Jones of San Angelo, Tx.; grandchildren, Jenny and Ronnie Lite of Belton, Karen and Fabrice Sueoka of Kempner, Cindy Kite of Batesville, Lydia and Shawn Randall of Killeen, Tim Leadford and wife of Midfield, Tate and Dawn Leadford of Houston, Paige Leadford of Medina, Joseph and Debra Anderson of San Angelo, James and Tami Anderson of Mertzon, James and Traci Reeves of West Columbia, Jennifer Reeves of Grand Prairie, Brian and Dawn Bowers of Angleton, Keith Bowers, Paula and Mike Sharp of Friendswood, Helen and Lee Knezek of Bay City, Blair Rowton, George Bittle of Matagorda and Jody Harvey of Houston; great-great-grandchildren; and her companion of 12 years, 'Missy', her Chihuahua. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter L. Leadford; her parents; a brother, Carl S. Halliday; a daughter, Dolly Leadford Bittle; three grandsons; and two great-grandsons. Pallbearers were Charles Mize, Kenneth Smith, Bobby Walton, Jack Beard, Herbert Schneider, and Don Hyett. Honorary pallbearer was John Ressler. ALICE "MOMA" STOREY
Graveside services for Alice "Moma" Storey, 79, of Du- Quoin, Ill., were scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000 at the Palacios cemetery. A memorial service was set for Sept. 16 in San Dia, Tex. A former longtime resident of Palacios, where she was known as "Moma, " Mrs. Storey died Aug. 31 in Illinois. She was born March 30, 1921. Survivors include the husband, Clyde Storey of DuQuoin, Ill.; four daughters, Judy and Les Parker of Los Fresnos, Tex., Jackie and Leo Russell of DuQuoin, Ill., Beth Storey of East St. Louis, Ill., and Leona and John Hebret of Arizona; one son, Daniel Storey of Houston; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sons, James Paul Buzzard, Spiegel Storey, Jr., and David Earl Storey.
VIRGINIA NELI 'GENNIE' MOTES OLDHAM
Funeral services for Virginia Neli 'Gennie' Motes Oldham, 78, of Palacios, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios with Rev. Charlie Parker officiating. Interment will be at Hawley cemetery near Blessing. Mrs. Oldham was born Sept. 14, 1921 in Blountsville, Ala. to the late Herbert and Inez Doyle Motes. She died Sept. 12, 2000 at the SCCI Hospital in Victoria following a lengthy illness. After graduating high school in 1940, she joined the U. S. Navy Waves after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. She was stationed in Washington, D. C. and was a cryptologist specialist. It was during World War II that she met and later married
Army 1st Lt. Ney Oldham, Jr. from Palacios. Their military wedding was one of the first held at the Patuxent River Naval Chapel after the war. The couple moved to Palacios after their honorable military discharges in 1945. Ney and Virginia owed and operated Oldham's Dry Goods and Sporting Store. After Hurricane Carla in 1961 they built and operated The Fountain Terrace Motel. Mrs. Oldham was a member of the First Methodist Church. In 1948, 'Gennie' and some of her friends started the Harmonie Club to raise money to light the baseball field as well as money for other local benefits.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lydia V. and Dennis Schuetz of Palacios, Nancy Lea and Glenn Howard of Victoria; a son, Ney Oldham, III of Palacios; grandchildren Lee Schuetz, Rebecca Howard, Glenn Wesley Howard, and Nolan and Ney Oldham IV; eight nieces; two nephews; and 17 great -nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ney Oldham, Jr.; an infant daughter, Ann Lydia Schuetz; a sister, Joan Annette Motes; and three brothers, Doyle Motes, William 'Sonny' Motes, and Charles E. Motes. Pallbearers are Donald McAfee, Damen Williams, Richard Scott, Mark Olsovsky, Dennis Bartosh and Ted Bates. Honorary pallbearers are Woodrow Wilson, Steve Farsutt, Bob Trull, Lowell Johnson, Billy Hamlin and George Sparks.
JOSEPH WAYNE MICHALIK
Funeral services for Joseph Wayne Michalik, 34, of Quincy, Illinois were held Sept. 9, 2000 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Interment followed at Hawley cemetery in Blessing. Mr. Michalik was born June 17, 1966 in Palacios, Tx. to Charles Walter, Sr. and Dianna J. Brown Michalik. He died Sept. 3, 2000 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Il. He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Quincy, Il.. and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Palacios, Tx. He was a resident of Quincy the past two years, where he was the Director of Purchasing and Transportation at Prince Agri-Manufacturing in Quincy. Mr. Michalik was a 1984 graduate of Palacios High School and a 1990 graduate of Sam Houston State University in Agribusiness. After graduation he went to work for Cargill in Fort Worth, Tx. On Sept. 19, 1997 he married
Dana D. Rickett in San Antonio, Tx. He is survived by his wife, Dana of Quincy; parents, Charles and Dianna Michalik, Sr. of Palacios; two sons, Ronnie Michalik of Denton, Tx. and Hayden Michalik of Quincy, Il..; stepson, Trevor Moody of Quincy, Il..; sister, Roxane Michalik of Round Rock, Tx.; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Walter, Jr. and Jennifer Michalik of Austin; nephew, Hunter Michalik; and niece Abby Michalik of Austin, Tx. ROBERT W. "BOB" ACKERMAN
Funeral services for Robert W. "Bob" Ackerman, 77, of Blessing, were held Sept. 9, 2000 at the Hawley cemetery in Blessing with Rev. James Collins officiating. Interment was in Hawley cemetery. Mr. Ackerman was born May 14, 1023 in Blessing, Tx. to John Gilbert Ackerman and Mary Edith Nolen Ackerman. He died Sept. 7, 2000 in Bay City. He was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County and a member of Collegeport Presbyterian Church. He was a retired Rice Farmer and Cattle Rancher and a member of RVOS & a veteran of the 8th Air Force. He was a former member of the American Legion, Post #649 of Blessing and a former member of the North American Limousin Association. Mr. Ackerman is survived by his wife, Margie Lorene Neuszer Ackerman of Blessing; by his daughters, Eileen Ackerman of Austin and Gale King of Blessing; and by a son, Wayne Ackerman of Blessing. He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-granchildren. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Julie Ann Wesselman, Dennis Eugene Wesselman, Cody Steffek, Abby Ackerman, Amy King, and Cari King.

Funeral mass for Mary Martino, 78, of Palacios was held Sept. 8, 2000 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Martino was born Sept. 21, 1921 in Victoria, Tx. to the late Reyes and Santana Torres Diaz. She died Sept. 5, 2000 at North East Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Tx. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a resident of Palacios for the past 62 years. Mrs. Martino is survived by her husband, John O. Martino of Palacios; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Harry Castro of Richmond, Tx., Rosalie and John Lenihan of San Antonio, Tx.; sisters, Josefa Rodriguez of Port Lavaca, Tx., Benita Cano of Kemah, Tx.; brother, Porfidio Diaz of Corpus Christie, Tx.; 4 grandchildren, Evett Hamlin and husband, Philip, of Wharton, Marcus Castro and Samantha Castro of Richmond and Adam Rodriguez, Jr. of San Antonio; 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son John O. Martino, Jr., sister Isabel Lopez, and brother Manuel Diaz. LESTER WRIGHT
Funeral services for Lester Wright, 78, of Palacios, were held Sept. 6, 2000 at Out Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dale Leland officiating. Interment followed at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Wright was born Sept. 28, 1921 in Turtle Bay, Matagorda Co., Tx. to the late Buel Benjamin and Minnie Leota Stevens Wright. He died Sept. 3, 2000 at the Palacios Health Care Center in Palacios. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and a life long resident of Palacios. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Amie McGraw Wright of Palacios; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Alice of Palacios; grandson, Jamie Kruse of Palacios; and 2 great grandchildren, Tristan Scott and Steffen Bailey Kruse of Palacios. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Wright. Pallbearers were Fred, Bobby, and Darrell Buckley, Bobby Walton, Kenneth Smith and Greg Burnett. Honorary pallbearers were Jamie Kruse and Reed Bowers.
ALTON H. KELLEY
Funeral services for Alton H. Kelley, 76, of Anahuac, Tx., were held Aug. 29, 2000 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Port Lavaca with Rev. John R. Fisher officiating. Interment , with full military honors, was at Francitas cemetery. Mr. Kelley was born Dec. 18, 1923 in Needville, Tx. to the late Gladys Laxson and Anthus Kelley. He died Aug. 27, 2000. Mr. Kelley was a retired pot tender at Alcoa-Point Comfort. He was a lifetime member of V. F. W. Post 8557 in Lolita, a member of the Alcoa 25 Year Club, and the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Point Comfort. He is survived by his wife, Nora Louise Kelley, of Anahuac; a daughter, Phyllis M. Howell of Kelseyville, Calif.; a son, Alton L. Kelley of Smith Point, Tx.; sisters Hazel C. Koch of Palacios, and Edith Lucille Arnold of Blessing; grandchildren Richard Kelley, Glenda Hellyer, Brandy Nowlin, Rhonda Kelley and Desiray Taylor; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Pallbearers were Valine Wallack, Gary Wallack, Walter Roben, Joe Wallack, Leroy Wallack and Rod Hellyer.
