ANASTANCIA PEREZ
Funeral services for Anastancia Perez, 103, of Palacios were held Oct. 14, 2003 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Dwonoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios Cementery.
Mrs. Perez was born Dec. 12, 1900. She died Oct. 11, 2003.
She is survived by daughters, Cruz Carmelo of south Houston and Dominga Perez Gonzales of Palacios; sons, Pablo Perez of Port Lavaca, Henry Perez, Victor Perez and Mike Perez, all of Palacios, and Valentin Perez of Bay City; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
HAZEL M. HOWARD
Funeral services for Hazel M. Howard, 89, of Palacios were held Oct. 8, 2003 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Kenyon Hamilton officiating. Interment was at Midfield cemetery.
Mrs. Howard died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at her home. She was born Oct. 24, 1913 in Heber Springs, Ark., to the late Alfred and Zillah Jefford Sharp. An active member of The Assembly of God of Point Comfort, she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Survivors include the husband, Hiram B. Howard of Palacios; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by step-mother Nola Sharp; sons Charles Alfred Howard and Kenneth Dale Howard; one sister, Alfreda Casey; and two brothers, Raymond Sharp and J.D. Howard.
Memorials may be made to The Assembly of God of Point Comfort, or to donor's choice. Palacios Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
JERRY C. ADKINS
Funeral services for Jerry C. Adkins, 77, of Blessing were held May 10, 2003 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City with Rev. Shawn Rush officiating. Internment was at Hawley cemetery.
Mr. Adkins was born Dec. 14, 1925 in Illinois to the late Bruce and Pearl Crabtree Adkins. He died May 7, 2003.
He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Maria D. Nieto Adkins of Oak Hollow; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandra and Carlton Weidel of Gladewater, Tx., Maria and Jimmy Valdez of Lake Jackson, Tx. and Ruby Adkins of Odessa; three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott Edward and Sharon Adkins of Fredericksburg, Tx., Otto and Teresa Adkins of Blessing and Jesse and Clara Adkins of Bloomington, Tx.; two sisters, Colleen Milliken of Jewett, Tx. and Debbie Ewing of McAllen, Tx.; three brothers, Bruce Adkins, Jr. of Georgetown, Tx., Dorse Adkins of Jewett, Tx. and Donald Adkins of Edinburg, Tx.; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
ROBERT EMMETT WINTTERLE
A memorial service for Robert Emmett Wintterle, 79, of Palacios, was held May 3, 2003 at Carancuahua Chapel with the Revs. Hollie Brisco and Anthony Tran officiating
Mr. Wintterle was born June 5, 1923, in Vicksburg, Mich., to the late Tharius DeLois and Angeline McArdle Wintterle. He died April 28, 2003.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in WWII. He was a teacher and a member of Carancuahua Chapel in Cape Carancuahua.
Mr. Wintterle is survived by his wife, Alice Estelle Chambers Wintterle; daughters, Helenmarie Wintterle of Quanah, Annamarie Gibbons of Omaha, Neb., Tonie Tran of Houston, Tam Nguyen of New Orleans and Any "Van" Le of Seadrift; son, Khai Mai of Palacios; brother, John Wintterle of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: parents; and brother, James Wintterle.
ROBERT DWAIN KOENIG, SR.
A memorial service for Robert Dwain Koenig, Sr., 46, of Palacios, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at First United Methodist Church in Palacios with the Rev. Charlie Parker officiating.
A private burial service will be held at the Palacios cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Koenig was born June 18, 1956 in El Campo, Tx. to the late Cassie Ezell and Frederick Wallace Koenig, Sr. He died at his residence July 22, 2002.
He is survived by his son, Robert Dwain Koenig, Jr. of Provo, Utah; and a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Nancy Koenig, Jr. of West Columbia; an aunt, Wilma Johnson of Palacios; and several cousins.

ELIZABETH “DIANNE” VALCIK
Graveside services for Elizabeth “Dianne” Valcik, 45, of El Campo were held July 24, 2002 at the Garden of Memories cemetery with Rev. Barry Curtis and Brother Hollis Hoffman officiating.
A former Palacios resident, she was born Oct. 1, 1956 in Port Lavaca to Plama Harwell Wilke of El Campo and the late Henry Wilke. She died Sunday, July 21, 2002.
Survivors in addition to her mother include the husband, August “Gus” Valcik of Palacios; two daughters, Laura Janak of El Campo and Julie Harvey of Palacios; one son, Scott Valcik of El Campo; three sisters, Terri Brouhon of Dallas, and Jennifer Wilke and Karen Joyce Belcolore, both of El Campo; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Curtis of Houston; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur “Brent” Wilke and Henry Wilke.
Pallbearers were David Harvey, Scott Valcik, Steven Janak, Todd Kidwell, Kevin Harvey and Joe Lankford.
An account to help defray funeral expenses has been opened in her name at Commercial State Bank, El Campo.
THELMA BARRETT GIFFORD
Funeral services for Thelma Barrett Gifford, 78, were held Thursday, July 18, 2002 at the First Baptist Church of Schertz, Texas.
A native of Clarendon, Texas, she was born June 25, 1924 to the late Henry and Ruth Barrett. She was an active member of her church, a retired school teacher, and a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughter, Verna Sue and Linda June, both of Schertz; and one sister, Winifred Thompson of Palacios.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and four sisters.
EVELYN IVON LAWS
Funeral services Evelyn Ivon Laws, 74, of Bronson, KS, will be held at 2 p.m. July 18, 2002 at Paint Creek Church of the Brethren in Uniontown, KS with Pastor Chub Bolling officiating.
Mrs. Laws was born December 16, 1927 in Altoona, KS to Leroy Crowder and Ethel Maxwell Crowder. She died July 11, 2002 in Palacios, TX.
Affectionately known as “The Pig Lady”, her hobbies included collecting pigs as well as dancing, and bowling
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Charles Woods of Bronson, KS; two sons and daughters-in-law Ron and Karen Louise Laws of Palacios, TX and Allen and Karen Sue Laws of Conroe, TX; grandchildren Randell, Chris, and Brian Woods, A. J. and Russell Laws and Jessica and Jody Laws; and great-grandchilldren Jordan and Logan Woods and Mackenzie Woods.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman Allen Laws, in March of 1991.

BERNICE M. ALLEN
Funeral services for Bernice M. Allen, 85, of Cape Carancahua were scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at First United Methodist Church in Palacios.
A homemaker and member of First United Methodist Church, she was born in Houston on Oct. 25, 1916, to the late Davis F. and Ida Sharp Thames. She died Thursday, July 11, 2002.
Survivors include a son, James W. Allen III of Houston; a daughter, Terry Downing of Bandera; a sister, Virginia C. Fried of Houston; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen, Jr.

DOLPHUS ‘AL’ HUDSON
Funeral services for Dolphus ‘Al’ Hudson, 83, of Palacios, were held July 7, 2002 at the Family Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home in Houston.
Mr. Hudson was born Jan. 12, 1919 in Clarksville, Ark. He died July 4, 2002 at his residence in Palacios.
He is survived by his wife, Delia; daughters Karen Swider, Valerie Sandoval and Vicky Reyna; sons David Hudson, Charles Hudson, Tommy Reyna, Toby Reyna, Greg Reyna and John Reyna; sisters Lucy Coons and husband, Paul, and Flo Kanabe and husband, Herman; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Charles Hudson, David Hudson, Paul Coons, Herman Kanabe, Tommy Reyna, Frank burk, Martin Sandoval and Greg Reyna.
