ELESTIO MARTINEZ
Funeral services for Elestio Martinez, 77, of Bay City, were held July 15, 2000 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Cancino officiating. Interment was as Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Martinez was born Oct. 27, 1922 in Beeville, Tx. to the late Santiago and Concepcion Flores Martinez. He died July 12, 2000 at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, a resident of Bay City for the past 3-1/2 years, and a former longtime resident of Blessing.
He is survived by seven daughters and sons-in-law: Melissa Ann and Mark Galvez, Addie and Henry Zarate, all of Blessing; Olivia and Joe Guerra, Janie M. and Steven Ramirez, Susie and Edward Constancio, Irma and Benny DeLeon, all of Palacios; and Aurora and Rueben Cancino of San Marcus, CA. He is also survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Mary Martinez of Markham and Elestio Martinez, Jr. of Kearney, Nebraska; sisters Angelica Padea of Woodsboro, Tx., Angie Martinez of Rockport, Tx., Eloiada Smith of Grand Prairie, Tx., Ester Martinez of Arizona, and Eva Castro of Lubbock, Tx.; brothers Elias Martinez of Grand Prairie, Tx., Enrique Martinez of California, and Eziquelle Martinez of Raymondville, Tx.; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aurora R. Martinez; a son, Thomas Martinez; a brother, Ernesto Martinez; and four sisters, Maria, Olivia, Emma and Lilly Martinez.
Pallbearers were Edward Constancio III, B. J. DeLeon, Justin Zarate, Steven Ramirez, Jerry Martinez, and Joe Guerra Jr.
MARY IRENE TEDDER
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Irene Tedder, 67, of Palacios are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2000 at Dulaney Funeral Home Chapel in Eagle Lake, followed by interment at Lakeside cemetery, Eagle Lake. Visitation at Palacios Funeral Home was to be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, June 1.
Mrs. Tedder died May 30. A native of Eagle Lake, she was born Oct. 31, 1932 and had resided in Palacios since 1959. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 3821, Ladies Auxiliary; and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas R. Tedder and wife, Adeline, of Santa Fe, Tx., and Darrell D. Tedder and wife, Janet, of Palacios; and four grandchildren, Shanna L. Griego of Raeford, N.C., Amy L. Tedder of Santa Fe., Tex., and Brooke N. and Dustin T. Tedder of Palacios. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Catherine Hough; and one brother, Raymond Graves.
ANNA C. HILBORN
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna C. Hilborn, 78, of Benton, Ark., were held Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at the First Assembly of God Church of Benton, with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Interment was at New Rosemont cemetery in Benton. She died May 28 at her home.
Mrs. Hilborn was retired from the Benton schools, after 23 years as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Benton.
Survivors include two daughters, Gwen Sample of Palacios and Ginger Ford of Rio Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Rubie Hazelwood of Wilcox, Ariz., and Ruth Scott of Malvern, Ark.; four grandchildren, Zachary Sample of Palacios, Johnathon Sample and Becky Ferretiz, both of Benton, Ark., and Michelle Carson of North San Juan, Calif., and three great-grandchildren, Brandon and Ashley Carson of North San Juan, Calif., and Jacob Ferretiz of Benton, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Hilborn, and daughter, Pam Lee.
EDGAR LOUIS FRANK SCHNEIDER
Funeral services for Edgar Louis Frank Schneider, 84, of Bay City, were held May 30, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church in Bay City with the Rev. Sam Steele officiating. Interment was at Cedarvale cemetery.
Mr. Schneider was born Feb. 17, 1915 in Louise, Tx. to the late Alfred Emil and Alma Josephine Meier Schneider. He died May 26, 2000.
Mr. Schneider was a rice farmer/rancher and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bay City. A resident of Matagorda County since 1935, was a member of Matagorda Farmer’s Coop, a member of Executive Board of Rice Belt Dryers, Inc., and was recognized as “Outstanding Rice Farmer of the Year” in 1973.
He is survived by his wife, Della June Jurek Schneider; daughters Janice Copknicky and Linda Keller, both of Bay City; sisters Ruby Boettcher of Palacios and Pasadena, and Olga Kusak of Needville; brothers Weldon Schneider of Conroe, Alfred Schneider and Dickie Schneider, both of Palacios, and Herbert John Schneider of Port Lavaca; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jean Schneider.
PETE H. RODRIGUEZ
Funeral services for Pete H. Rodriguez, 65, of Palacios, were held May 20, 2000 at St. Anthony’s of Padua Catholic Church with Father Charles Dwomoh officiating. Internment was at Palacios cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2467.
Mr. Rodriguez was born June 27, 1934 in Palacios to the late Juan O. Rodriguez and Consuelo Hernandez-Rodriguez. He died May 17, 2000.
He was a Airman Second Class-Regular Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a commercial fisherman and a Catholic.
Mr. Rodriguez is survived by five daughters, Ericka Bagwell of Houston, Veronica Hill of Norman, OK, Angelica Rodriguez of Three Rivers, TX, Maria Consuelo Rodriguez of Palacios, and Jennifer Villarreal of Karnes City, TX; a son, Air Force Staff Sergeant Pete Y. Rodriguez of Tucson; sisters Julia Smith of Edinburg, TX, Margaret Vargas of Palacios, Mary Long and Dee DuPree both of Houston; and brother John H. Rodriguez of Palacios.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jesse H. Rodriguez.
Pallbearers were Larry Deadrick, Julian Guzman, Arnold Davilla, Amador Molina, David Sandoval, and John Rodriguez, III. Honorary pallbearers were Peter John Rodriguez, III, Adrienne Rodriguez, Pete Reyes, Jr., Juan Reyes, and Jose Salas.
NETTIE KILGORE
Funeral services for Nettie Kilgore, 72, of Palacios, were held May 11, 2000 at Palacios Funeral Home with Chaplain Don Delaplain officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Kilgore was born March 11, 1928 in Palacios to Harley C. and Hattie Best Lewis. She died May 8, 2000 at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Palacios and married
to Walter Kilgore for 51 years.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Kilgore of Palacios; daughters, Karla Nell Carr of Crockett, TX, and Cynthia Lynn Peterson of Leander, TX; a son, David Keith Kilgore of Lockhart, TX; and six grandchildren.
BERNARDO De Los SANTOS
Funeral services for Bernardo De Los Santos, 73, of Vanderbilt, were held May 13, 2000 at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Vanderbilt with the Rev. Jim Deaconson officiating. Interment was at St. Theresa Catholic cemetery in LaSalle.
Mr. DeLosSantos was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Mission, to the late Jose and Paula Casarez DeLosSantos. He died May 10, 2000.
He was owner and operator of a tavern and a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church and VFW Post No. 8556 in Lolita.
He is survived by his wife, Pola Castillo DeLosSantos; daughters, Gloria Nevarez of Vanderbilt, Irene Perez and Corey Nevarez, both of Houston, Sonia Garcia and Christina Nevarez, both of Palacios and Janie DeLosSantos of Angleton; sons, Casey DeLosSantos of Edna, Benny DeLosSantos of Vanderbilt, Ferman Castillo of Francitas and Paco Leal of Ganado; sisters, Lupe Martinez of Houston, Margaret Ramirez and Gracie Garza, both of Vanderbilt, Fina Delbousquez of San Marcos and Mary Pena of Houston; brothers, Fernando DeLosSantos of LaWard and Joe DeLosSantos of Vanderbilt; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons, Bernardo DeLosSantos Jr., Ricky DeLosSantos and Danny DeLosSantos; parents; and a sister, Juanita Muniz.
Pallbearers were Bernardo DeLosSantos III, Edward DeLosSantos, Edwin DeLosSantos, Eric Nevarez, Robert Garcia Jr. and Jeromy Chagoya.
PATRICIA SUE “TRISH” HARDY TOWNSEND
Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia Sue “Trish” Hardy Townsend, 60, of Bay City were scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the First Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Tom Crowe officiating. Interment was to follow in Cedarvale cemetery. She died May 5 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston.
A native and lifelong resident of Bay City, she was born April 30, 1940 to the late G. P. and Susie Lou Cunningham Hardy, Jr. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
A leading businesswoman in Matagorda County for over 40 years, she owned Exclusively Yours Trish for 30 years and Luisa’s Restaurant for 10 years. Among the civic and community organizations she was a part of were: Junior Service League (past president), chairperson of Charity Ball and Follies; Bay City Study Club (past president); Ladies County Club Association (past president and program chairman); Matagorda County Fair Association—organized and promoted first rodeo program, raising over $20, 000 the first year. She was also a founding member of the Holding Pen Club; chairperson of the founding committee of the Matagorda Mermaid Offshore Fishing Tournament, to benefit the Matagorda County Women’s Crisis Center and now also benefits the Matagorda EMS.
An individual dedicated to her family, friends and community, Mrs. Townsend was also active in the Matagorda Historical Society, Landmark Commission, Daughters of the American Revolution, Festival of Arts Association, Daughters in Progress and the Bay City Chamber of Commerce. She was also speaker before 500-plus at the Dallas Apparel Mart seminar on the subject, “Creating Plus Sales for the Independent Retailer.”
Survivors include a daughter, Cristyn Townsend Hallmark of Matagorda; son and daughter-in-law, William Allen and Donita Townsend, Jr. of Bay City; three sisters, Timothy Sloan of Bay City, Susie Hardy of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Melinda Horn of Missouri City; one bother, G.P. Hardy III of Sugar Land; three grandchildren, Hatchet Lee Hallmark of Matagorda, Brittney Michelle Townsend and Ashley Rene Townsend, both of Clark Lake; step-mother, Gertrude Hardy of Bay City; Godmother to her children, Lillie Hines of Bay City; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Warren Townsend, on Dec. 9, 1999.
Named pallbearers were nephews Michael, Todd, Matthew and Patrick Sloan, Tommy Phillips, Michael Cannon and George Hardy. Stephen Revell was honorary pallbearer.

RAYMOND SALINAS, JR.
A Rosary service for Raymond Salinas, Jr., 85, of Palacios, was held May 7 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral mass was held at May 8, 2000 at St. Anthony’s Cahtolic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Salinas was born Sept. 25, 1914 in Shiner, Tx. to the late Genoveo and Eulagia Olivares Salinas. He died May 4, 2000 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Houston. Mr. Salinas was a lifelong resident of Palacios and member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Maria S. Ortiz of Corpus Christi, Elida S. and Jesse Mendez of Houston, Olivia S. Diaz of Palacios, Janice S. and Paul R. Campos of Palacios, Delia S. Cuellar of Pearland, and Abelia S. and Alfred Guillen of Texas City; sons and daughters-in-law Raymond and Irma Salinas, Jr. of Francitas, David and Suzanne Salinas of Palacios, Joe G. Salinas of Palacios, and Robert G. Salinas of Palacios; 38 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria A. Salinas, three sisters and three brothers.
Pallbearers are Alfred Guillen, David Salinas, Jesse Mendez Jr., Greg Ryena, Toby Reyna Jr. and Paul R. Campos III.
CHARLES WILLIAM STEWART, JR.
Funeral arrangements for Charles William Stewart, Jr., 85, of Palacios, were pending from the Palacios Funeral Home. He died Saturday, April 29, 2000.
A native of Menstrie, Scotland, Mr. Stewart was born Sept. 7, 1914 to the late Charles W. and Mable Laughlin Stewart, Sr. A resident of Palacios since 1945, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, and was retired from Alcoa’s Point Comfort Operations.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Rick Thompson of Rockport; one brother, Jeff Stewart of Palacios; and grandchildren, Kara and Collin Thompson of Rockport.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Palacios Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
