KENNETH GORDON JARRETT
Memorial services for Kenneth Gordon Jarrett, 77, of Bay City, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.
Mr. Jarrett died Oct. 18 in Bay City. A native of Lenapah, Okla., he was born Nov. 18, 1921 to the late Lee and Ella Nora Conner Jarrett.
A resident of Bay City since 1952, Mr. Jarrett was employed in automobile sales and service before becoming self-employed in 1964 with the start of Jarrett Furniture. He retired in 1992.
Survivors include the wife, LaVerne E. Jarrett of Bay City; two sons, Kenneth G. Jarrett, Jr., and Douglas W. Jarrett, both of Bay City; one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Jolene) Watson of Utopia; six grandchildren, Jennifer J. Matula, Matthew and Melissa Jarrett, and Will, Katey and Shannon Watson; and mother-in-law, Emma Eikenberg of Bay City. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Calvary Baptist Church, Bay City; or to the Parkinson's Foundation, Houston.
VIRGINIA PARDO
Funeral services for Mrs. Tony (Virginia) Pardo, 53, of Palacios, were scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was in Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Pardo died Oct. 20. She was born Dec. 2, 1945 in El Maton to Nieves Perez Perez and the late Manuel Perez. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Survivors in addition to the husband and mother include one daughter, Gina Pardo of Palacios; two sons, Anthony Pardo of New Orleans, La., and Eric Pardo of Palacios; four sisters, Pauline Carabajal of Freeport, and Olga Perez, Teresa Gonzales and Estella Lucio, all of Palacios; one brother, Larry Pina of Palacios; and one grandchild, Chelsea Pardo of Wasilla, Alaska.
HORACIO CHAVEZ LOPEZ
Funeral services for Horacio Chavez Lopez, 21, of Palacios, were to be held in Salvatierra, GTO, Mexico, following an Oct. 20 rosary at Palacios Funeral Home.
Mr. Lopez died Oct. 15. A native of Salvatierra, GTO, Mexico, he was born Aug. 16, 1978 to Jose and Cruz Chavez Lopez of Palacios. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
A resident of Palacios for 13 years, Mr. Lopez was employed by Jones & Allen Pipeline Construction Co.
Survivors in addition to the parents include the wife, Jessica Tristan of Ganado; a step-son, Jason Rodriguez of Ganado; two sisters, Erica and Brenda Lopez of Palacios; and three brothers, Alfredo, Gustavo and Luis Lopez, all of Palacios.
ROSALAI CATHERINE RHOADES
Funeral services for Rosalai Catherine Rhoades, 75, of Palacios, were held July 29, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios with the Rev's Andy and Janel Blair officiating. Interment was at the Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Rhoades was born May 25, 1930 in Geneva, IL to the late Emory D. and Mary Louise Gould. She passed from this life July 26, 2005 at her residence with her loving children and sister with her. She was a resident of Palacios since 1969. She is survived by four daughters and thee sons-in-law: Deborah and Galen Johnson of Olivia, TX, Diane Rhoades of Palacios, Dawna and John Carroll Frankson of Carancanhua Community, and Darlene and Wayne Biffle of Palacios; a sister, Doralass Raymond of Aurora, IL; a brother, Bruce Baum of Bolder Hill, IL; a sister-in-law, Jessie Baum of Markleysburg, PA; grandchildren Reggie Johnson of Olivia, Lorie Lankford and husband Alvin of Georgetown, TX, John Breithaupt and wife Kirsti of El Campo, Eric Frankson of Bryan, Kimberly Hanz and husband Matt of Bryan, and Brant, Cameron and Nathan Biffle all of Palacios; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews that were very dear to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glenn Rhoades; brother, Emory Baum; granddaughter, Alison Johnson; and step-father Jack Basford. EARL THOMAS DUNN
Graveside funeral services for Earl Thomas Dunn, 79, of Palacios, were held July 19, 2005 at Hawley cemetery in Blessing, Tx with Brother Tom Craiker officiating. Mr. Dunn was born February 9, 1926 in Virginia to the late George Thomas Dunn, Sr. and Augusta Baethge Dunn. He passed away July 17, 2005. A lifelong resident of Palacios, Mr. Dunn was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ann Dunn of Palacios; daughters, Lisa Kaye Dunn and Jolene Dunn Barrientos, both of Victoria; sisters Dorothy Kirkham, Laura Huddleston, Hardie Ann Baldwin and Gladys Baldwin; and brothers, George Dunn, Jr., Eddie Dunn and Carroll Dunn.
JOHN C. TAYLOR
Private graveside services for John C. Taylor, 67, of Palacios, formerly of Victoria, were held July 16, 2005 at Hillside cemetery in Cuero with the Rev. John Fisher officiating. Mr. Taylor was born July 7, 1938 in Cuero to the late Charles Taylor and Eva Mae Taylor. He died July 15, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Frances Adkins Taylor of Palacios; sisters Bobbie Unruh of Houston and Dorothy Stewart of Cuero; brother Terry Taylor of Washington, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.
MARTHA CHANIK
A memorial service for Martha Chanik, 53, of Palacios, was held July 16, 2005 at Parkway Church in Victoria. Mrs. Chanik was born November 23, 1951 to the late A.T. and Annie Chanik. She died July 14, 2005. She is survived by daughter, Melissa Howton (Rick) of Bessemer, Ala.; son, Clint Grantland (Marci) of Victoria, and James Stephens of Bay City; sisters, Mittie Glass (Leroy), Joyce Cowger (James), Olita Nance (Bill) and Kay Dry (Dale); brother, Forrest Chanik (Connie); and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Ruth Chanik, Geneva Smith and Lillie Ann McElroy; and brother Tommie Joe Chanik.
ANTONIO "TONY" G. RODRIGUEZ, JR.
Funeral services for Antonio "Tony" G. Rodriguez, Jr., 85, of Palacios, were held July 3, 2005 at the Living Word Church with the Rev. Tony Flores officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery with military honors under the auspices of Veteran of Foreign Wars Queen Hamlin Post 2467 of Palacios. Mr. Rodriguez was born January 3, 1920 in San Antonio to the late Antonio G. Rodriguez, Sr. and Fidela Garcia Perez. He died June 30, 2005. A retired transportation captain, Mr. Rodriguez was also employed by Friends of Elderly Citizens and a WWII Veteran tank driver of the Army, Private-Company A of the 785th Battalion. He is survived by his wife, Lupe Alamia Rodriguez of Palacios; daughters, Irene Lucio of Palacios, Elizabeth R. Rodriguez of Wharton, Veronica Constancio of Blessing and Virginia Salazar of Pasadena; sons, Antonio Pardo, Mario Rodriguez, Ismael Martin Rodriguez and Lloyd Rodriguez all of Palacios; sisters, Natalia Serrata of Houston and Alicia Harvey of Palacios; brother, William "Willie" Rodriguez of Palacios; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Mario Rodriguez, Lloyd Rodriguez, First Lt. Timothy Lucio, Jason Constancio, Johnathan Rodriguez and Christopher Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers were Antonio Pardo, Abel A. Lucio, Samuel Constancio, Eric Pardo, Ismael M. Rodriguez, Joshua Rodriguez and Anthony Pardo. Arrangements were with Arturo Funeral Home, Port Lavaca.
SAU VAN HUYNH
Funeral services for Sau Van Huynh, 57, of Palacios, were held at July 1, 2005 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Huynh was born July 11, 1947 in Viet Nam. He died at his residence June 28, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Chien Thi Huynh; daughters, Thuy T. Huynh of Houston, Renda Huynh of Stafford, and Van Huynh of Palacios; and sons, Thanh Ngoc Huynh, Phuc Ngoc Huynh, and Hau Van Huynh, all of Palacios. LENORA J. HENDRICKS Ð MARTIN
Funeral services for Lenora J. Hendricks-Martin, 88, were held June 25, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios with Revs. Andy Blair and Janell Blair officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing, TX. She was born August 21, 1916 in Schulenburg, TX to James Frank Michna and Bertha Gerhing Michna. She died June 23, 2005 in Port Lavaca. Tx. She was a resident of Palacios for the past 80 years, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios, and a member of he VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former Elder of the First Presbyterian Church and a retired member of the Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughter, Joanna Hendricks of Palacios; her son, Robert Wayne Hendricks and wife Georgan of El Campo; and granddaughter, Lin Hutzenbiler and husband Wade of El Campo. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert G. Hendricks, Jr. and Dallas Martin; by her parents, James F. and Bertha G. JOSE MIGUEL GARCIA
A Memorial Mass for Jose Miguel Garcia, 57, was held June 23, 2005 at St. Vincent De Paul Church, 4222 SW Loop 410 in San Antonio. Mr. Garcia was born March 10, 1948 in Palacios to Miguel and Anita Garcia. He willingly gave up his battle with cancer on June 17, 2005 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lucinda S. Garcia; daughters and son-in-laws, Gabriella and Jeffrey Lopez, Joey Lynn and Glenn George and Krista and Richard Rivera; and grandchildren Lauren, Michael, Samantha, Brooke, Savannah and Hailey. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Miguel and Anita Garcia and his brothers and sisters. Jose's love for truck driving was almost as great as the love he has for his family. He will be missed dearly by every one of his family and friends. His courage to face overwhelming odds will serve as an example to us all. Jose fought the good fight. May he Rest in Peace.
