Funeral services for Silvestra “Bertha” Palacios Garcia, 85, of Palacios, Tx., were held Sept. 17, 2011 at The Living Word Church, 12th & Henderson in Palacios wtih Rev. Fernando Guel and the Rev. Jasper Garcia, Sr. officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Garcia was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Edna, Tx. to the late Cruz Palacios Sr. and Elpidia Martinez Palacios. She passed away Sept. 13, 2011.
She was a homemaker and non-denominational.
She is survived by her daughters, Irene Guel, Roselee Garcia, and Ophelia Black, all of Bacliff, Tx. and Deborah Watson of Red Level, Ala.; sons, Jasper Garcia Sr. and Guadalupe Garcia Jr., both of Palacios, Andrew Garcia Sr. and Sammy Garcia, both of Bacliff, Martin Garcia of San Antonio, and Oscar Garcia of Webster, Tx.; brothers, Louis Palacios Sr. and Frank Palacios, both of Victoria, Tx.; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guadalupe Cantu Garcia Sr.; sons, Ernest Garcia Sr. and Frank Garcia; sisters, Francisca Molina and Olivia Huerta; and brother, Cruz Palacios Jr.
Pallbearers were Curtis Johnson, Jonathon Watson, Sam Watson III, Andrew Garcia Jr., Frederick Polanco, Joshua Garcia, Jasper Garcia Jr., Christopher Guel, and Israel Guel Jr. Honorary pallbearer was Gary Bale.

CARLA FAY LEADFORD REEVES
A memorial service for Carla Fay Leadford Reeves, 64, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at Trinity Baptist Church in Palacios, Tx. with Louis Rush officiating.
Carla was born Sept. 20, 1946 to the late Walter and Josephine Leadford. She went to be with her Lord on Aug. 26, 2011 in Bronte, Tx. after a lengthy illness.
She had been a longtime resident of Palacios.
She is survived by her sons James Anderson of Mertzon, Tx. and Joseph Anderson of Victoria, Tx.; brother, Jerry Leadford of Palacios; sister, Robin Posgay of Friendswood, Tx; and numerous grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dolly Bittle; and a brother, Larry Ashley.

JULIAN LYNN VINE
Funeral services for infant Julian Lynn Vine of Palacios, Tx. were held Sept. 2, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Palacios with James Cox officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery near Markham, Tx.
Julian Lynn was born July 1, 2011 and passed away Aug. 27, 2011.
Our baby Julian wasn’t here with us long, but he left our hearts full of memories. He is now in heaven with our loved ones and is our Little Angel watching over us.
Julian is survived by his dad, Jerry Vine; mother, Becca McCorkel; brother Nicky Hendren, Jr.; grandpa Tommy Boutwell; grandma Cheryl Hayes, “MiMi” Cheryl Murdock; “PawPaw” William Murdock; uncles Morgan McCorkel, Billy “BoBo” Komer, Nicky Komer, Chaz Schulze, James Murdock and Bryan Slocum; aunts Amber Medina, Irene Slocum, Cherokee “Cheeky” Newsome and Alexis Virsack.
Pallbearers were Morgan McCorkel, Billy Komer, Nicky Komer and Chaz Schulze. Honorary pallbearer was Nicky Hendren, Jr.
JOHN ROBERTSON, JR.
John Robertson, Jr. passed away Aug. 28, 2011, at Warm Springs Specialty Hospital, in Victoria, Tx. after a recent medical emergency event. He had been chronically ill for many months.
John was a resident of Palacios for the past few years after retiring, and lived in Houston prior to moving. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended Arsenal Technical High School. He worked 40 years, doing lead maintenance in apartment complexes, and was well known in that industry.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Rebecca Salinas (Roque), and granddaughter, Caitlin Elizabeth Salinas. Other survivors include, daughter, Crickett Robertson, and granddaughter, Shelby Caulk.
He was predeceased by his parents, John Sr. (Bud) and Evelyn Fosgate Robertson, and brother, Stephen K.
John was a kind, friendly person. He knew how to do almost anything, and helped his family restore and renovate the homes they now live in, in Palacios. He loved to fish and play darts. He will be missed.

GEORGE WILLIAM HOVER
Memorial services for George William Hover, 91, of Amarillo, Tx. and formerly of Palacios, were held Sept. 1, 2011 at Washington Avenue Christian Church in Amarillo with Pastor Jim Shelburne officiating. Burial and Masonic Rites were at Memory Gardens in Amarillo.
Mr. Hover was born Aug. 23, l920 in South St. Paul, Minnesota to George M. Hover and Agnes Hover. He passed away Aug. 28, 2011 at BSA Hospice in Amarillo.
He had served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He later obtained his FAA and Weather Bureau training and had served Chief of Flight Service Palacios.
He was active in the Masonic Lodge A.M. and F.M. for 65 years and in Lions Club. He had served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of Elder Citizens in Palacios.
JOSHUA ALLEN HEBEL
Funeral services for Joshua Allen Hebel, 17, of Palacios, TX were held Aug. 22, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Palacios with Rev. June White officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Joshua was born May 6, 1994 in Farmers Branch, TX to Jeffery Allen Hebel and Melissa Ann Quintanilla. He passed away Aug. 16, 2011.
He was a life long resident of Palacios, and was an incoming Junior of Palacios High School. He was a fine young man. He was beautiful on the inside, as well as out. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Palacios and gave himself to the Lord through baptism on Aug. 14, 2011. He also volunteered for the Good News Club at Palacios Elementary.
Josh had many dreams, one of which was to become a college Professor of History. He loved History and he loved learning and teaching History. He also collected antiques, especially clocks and records. His favorite music was from the 1930’s and 40’s. Josh was only 17 years old, but, in this short time he touched so many lives and will be remembered forever in all of our hearts.
He is survived by his mother Melissa Quintanilla and Leo Montalvo of Palacios; his father: Jeffery Allen Hebel of Palacios; maternal grandparents Arturo and Lucy Garcia of Palacios and Sammy and Beatrice Gomez of Boling; paternal grandfather James L. Hebel of Palacios; brothers Jacob and Seth Quintanilla and Gabriel Montalvo of Palacios; aunts Stephanie Vazquez, Mary Flores, Leslie Barron, Brittany Gomez, Carrie Lee Hebel, Anita Keeling, Ester Chavez and Monica Chavez; and uncles Samuel F. Gomez Jr., James E. Hebel and Gary Hebel.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Martha Hebel.
Pallbearers were William Herrington, James E. Hebel, Gary Hebel, Grant Stuhrenberg, James Keeling, Ernest Barron, Dustin Johnson and Miguel Vasquez.

REID HARRISON CLAYBOURN
Reid Harrison Claybourn, infant son of Garrett and Tera Claybourn, passed away Aug. 13, 2011.
Graveside services were held Aug. 17, 2011 at the Palacios cemetery.
He is survived by his parents; grandparents, Clayton and Holly Claybourn of Palacios, Randy and Claudia Coward of Port Lavaca and Ray and Mary Ann Hopmann of Victoria.

Nathan Dean Brennan, our wonderful miracle baby, went to be with our Lord on Aug. 8, 2011.

HUDSTON ‘CUTER’ BATES, SR.
Funeral services for Hudson “Cuter” Bates, Sr. 74, of Palacios, Tx., were held Aug. 12, 2011 at Palacios Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Brune officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery.
Cuter was born Oct. 2, 1936 in Bayou La Batre, Alabama to the late Rollie Robert and Anna Augusta Seaman Bates. He went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Aug. 9, 2011.
Cuter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.
Hudson married
Eunice Wilson Bates and they settled in Palacios to raise a family. He made his living on the waters of Matagorda Bay as a fisherman/shrimper for 56 years. He was awarded the Chamber of Commerce Marine Related Man of the year award in 1991 and in 1980, 81, 82 and 84 he was honored with the award for being the top producing boat on Matagorda Bay. His passions in life were his family, hunting, spending time at deer camp and serving the lord.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56-˝ years, Eunice Wilson Bates; children Cheryle Todd, Rhonda Glenn, Hudson Bates, Jr. and wife Linda, Velenda Brune and husband Terry, Brian Bates, Sr. and wife Candice; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and brother Dexter “Tunce” Bates.
He was preceded in death by brothers Jack, Tooker and Hokey Bates.
Pallbearers were Allen Morrison, Jr., Russell Morrison, John Rollie Glenn, Hudson Merle Bates, Wayne Brune and Brian Bates, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Nelo Seaman, Ted Bates, Jr., W. C. Greenlaw, Blackie Longoria, Douglas Callais, Lenny Kunefke, Frederick Woodland and John Glenn, Jr.
