ALFRED RAY ‘SONNY’ BANKHEAD
Funeral services for Alfred Ray “Sonny” Bankhead, 88, of Markham, Tx., were held Nov. 15, 2010 at St. Peter’s Catholic Churc in Blessing, Tx. with Rev. Peter Yeboah-Amanfo officiating. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Tx.
Mr. Bankhead was born Nov., 18, 1921 in Markham to the late Hollie Ray and Rosalie Frieze Bankhead. He passed away Nov. 12, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a lifelong resident of Markham. He was also a retired Boilermaker and Operator with Marathon Oil Company and a member of St. Robert’s Catholic Church in Markham, a member of the 100 Club, and a member and past Commander of the Philip H. Parker VFW Post 2438 in Bay City.
He is survived by his wife, Winnie Bankhead of Markham; daughters Judy Sliva and husband Tony of Blessing and Janet Saha and husband Mike of El Maton; sister Elizabeth Myers of Deer Park; grandchildren Jana Dyer and husband Gerald, Cheryl Riojas, Scott Sliva, Jeff Sliva, Sheri Mayfield and husband Kelly, Mikey Saha and wife Christa, Stacey Spencer and husband Kade, and Mark Saha and wife Hillary; 12 great-grandchildren; and niece and Godmother: Gertie Mayeux.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Donald Ray Bankhead; and sisters Dorothy Urban, June Lewis and Janet Mullins.
His grandsons will serve as his pallbearers.

BERTHA TIETJEN COMPTON
Bertha Tietjen Compton, 80, of Palacios, Tx., passed away Oct. 21, 2010.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Compton was born Oct. 16, 1930 in Mountain View, Oklahoma to Alice and Charles Zimmerlee. She was a long time resident of Rockport, TX. before moving to Palacios.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin Compton of Palacios; son Jimmie Lee Hinton of Blessing, Tx.; daughters Mary Lee Bundick and Alice (Charles) Rickles, both of Drummonds, Tennessee and Sandra (Mark) Walpole of Rockport; stepdaughters Shelly (Bobby) Beard of Freeport, Tx. and Cindy Compton of Port Lavaca, Tx.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and sister, Sandra Howell of Baycliff, Tx.

HOWARD EARL BALDWIN
Funeral services for Howard Earl Baldwin, 84 of Temple, Tx. were held Oct. 18, 2010 at the Belton Nazarene Church with Pastor Adrian D. “Tommy” Davis officiating. Burial was at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple with military honors.
Mr. Baldwin was born Dec. 5, 1925 to Harold Reid and Alberta (Sealock) Baldwin in Palacios, Tx. He passed away Oct. 14, 2010.
He honorably served our country during World War II in the United States Army. On July 1, 1952, he married
Mora Jane Lemay in Bethany, Oklahoma. He worked as a Pastor at Grace Church of Nazarene in Temple. He also worked as a counselor for T.E.C.
He is survived by his wife of Temple; daughters Crystal Baldwin of Temple, Coral Snider and husband Allan of Bethany, OK, Linda Baldwin and husband Randall Hassig of Temple, and Rhonda Wardlow and husband Terry of Temple; son Stanley Baldwin of Temple; brothers Carl Baldwin of Palacios, Joseph Baldwin of Portland, Tx., and James Baldwin of Somerville, Tx.; and 7 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Oliver and Donald; and sister Irene.

GERALD EDWARD STORK
Funeral services for Gerald Edward Stork, 70, of Palacios, Tx., were held Oct. 16, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Palacios with the Rev. Paul Klaus and the Rev. June White officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Stork was born to Herschell and Stella Stork in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, on Nov. 14, 1939. After a most valiant fight, passed away Oct. 12, 2010 in Victoria, Tx.
He was one of three children raised in both Alabama and Texas. He graduated from Alba High School in 1960 and soon after joined the United States Army as a military police officer serving in New York and Germany. He married
the love of his life, Betty Colleen Bosarge of Coden, Alabama, in April 1961.
They had four precious daughters – Deirdre “DeeDee, ” Jeri, Iris, and Lisa. They raised the girls in Palacios where he was an avid sportsman and worked as a chemical plant operator at Alcoa. He retired in 1990 and enjoyed full-time sportsmen adventures, until he became ill in 2006.
Gerald loved God’s creation from the birds in the air to the fish in the sea, and he pursed his love interests with a passion as he lived his life to the fullest. From honoring his wife of 49 years to teaching his girls valuable lessons, from fishing to hunting, Gerald cast a wide net of love.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Palacios; daughters Dee Dee Stork of Palacios, Jeri Corporon and son-in-law Dale Corporon of Yampa, Colorado, Iris Nelson and son-in-law Donatin Nelson of Dillon, Colorado, and Lisa Klaus and son-in-law Paul Klaus of Round Rock, Tx.; his pride and joy grandchildren Aaron Corporon, Jeremy Corporon, Sarah Klaus, and Wyatt Nelson; sister Ginger Neimeyer of Channelview, Tx.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, June Jones.

JULIA INEZ BALES CROSBY INGRAM BECKENDORF
Graveside services for Julia Inez Bales Cosby Ingram Beckendorf, 95, of Tomball, Tx., were held Oct. 16, 2010 at the Cenzo Hill cemetery outside of Mathis, Tx.
Mrs. Beckendorf was born on April 29, 1915 in Polo, Missouri to Marion Campbell Bales and Nevada Etta Walker Bales. She passed away Oct. 13, 2010.
She moved to Texas with her Mother and seven siblings around 1922. She lived in several towns on the coast of Texas – Palacios, Rockport, Freeport, Corpus Christi and Mathis. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Mathis where she lived for over 40 years.
Judy, as she was known, loved writing poems, doing crafts, playing forty-two, moon and singing. She enjoyed the Home Demonstration Club she belonged to even if she was the oldest one. She was so talented and smart but didn’t realize it. She could go into any store, see something she liked, go home and make it. She managed several small businesses in her lifetime. She loved for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren to come to see her.
She was preceded in death by sons Jimmy William Cosby, Doyle (Tiny) Ingram, Charles Beckendorf; daughter Sandra Goode; and husbands Jesse Cosby, Granvel Ingram and Charlie Beckendorf.
She is survived by daughters Verdell Jean Brown, and Donnie Faye McClendon and husband Kenneth; son Jim Ingram and wife Dorothy; daughter-in-law Vanna Ingram; grandchildren Deborah Reeder, Roxanne Trim, Donna Nix, Lori Ingram, Michele Hammers, Billy Ingram, Michael Murdock, John McClendon, Jeffrey McClendon, Jennifer Wilcox and husband Kenneth; five Beckendorf grandchildren; great-grandchildren Bret Nix, Dana Nix, Rachel Knox & husband Joey, Christy Leach, Taylor Nix, Sydney McClendon, Quentin Foster, Trace Wilcox, Prestin Ingram, Hunter Wilcox, Blaine Trim, and Landon Wilcox; and great-great-grandchildren, Brylie Lyons and Adam Leach.
EDMOND TRAMMEL HUNTER
A memorial service for Edmond Trammel Hunter, 72, of Palacios, Tx., was held Oct. 9, 2010, at Solid Rock Fellowship in Palacios with Pastor Billie Burch and Pastor Tommy Griffin officiating.
Military honors was under the auspices of the Veterans of Foreign Wars - Queen Hamlin Post No. 2467, Palacios.
Mr. Hunter was born Feb. 28, 1938, in Palacios to the late Oliver Bird Hunter and Bonnie Rose Griffin Hunter. He passed away Sept. 28, 2010.
He retired after 35 years with Alcoa and was a member of the Alcoa 25-Year Club. He was a member of Solid Rock Fellowship and Masonic Lodge No. 990-Palacios. He was a member of the Palacios Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years and was fire chief for 11 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, CS-3, USNR-R, E-4.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Brune Hunter of Palacios; sons Steven Troy Hunter of Victoria, Gregory Scott Hunter and wife Amanda Ochoa, and Christopher Todd Hunter, all of Palacios; sister Ann Mangum of Palacios; and grandchildren Stephanie Hunter, Corrie Hunter and Kyle Hunter of Victoria, Jordan Hunter and Jade Hunter, both of Palacios.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Hazel Hawkins; daughter-in-law Christy Kelly Hunter; and brothers Johnie Hunter, Shorty Hunter, and Pete Hunter.

JOHN DARRELL GLENN
Funeral services for John Darrell Glenn, 81, of Palacios, Tx., were held Oct. 2, 2010 at Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Hollis Hoffman officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery.
Mr. Glenn was born Sept. 29, 1929 in Mabank, Tx. to the late John T. Glenn and Aleta Charity Dickson. He passed away Sept. 29, 2010 at Citizens Hospital in Victoria.
He moved to Palacios when he was three and lived there the rest of his life. In 1949 he went to work for Alcoa at Point Comfort and in 1951 was drafted into the Army. In 1953 he returned to Alcoa and worked there 42 years until his retirement in 1994. While in the Army he served in Korea with the 2nd Division Combat Engineers. In 1954 he met and married
Marian Joanne Davis and they celebrated their 56th anniversary on June 28, 2010.
He is survived by his wife; sons John Darrell Glenn, Jr., Robert A. Glenn and Larry E. Glenn; daughters-in-law Rhonda and Sandra Glenn; grandchildren Michael Glenn (Patricia), Rachel Barker (Michael), Sarah Dyer (Jeremy), Lorisa Saavedra (Freddy), John R. Glenn, Rocky Yackel (Miranda), Melissa Holesovsky (B.J.); 11 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Oliver Davis (Tula), Edward Davis (Karla); numerous nephews, cousins and their families; and best friend Royce Harvey (Janice).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Lavern Dearen, mother-in-law Alva Davis, father-in-law Oliver Davis and numerous “buddies” of 42 years at Alcoa.
Pallbearers were grandsons and all the other grandchildren were honorary pallbearers.
