VIRGINIA SHANNON LAWRENCE
Services for Virginia Shannon Lawrence, 88, were held Sept. 24, 2010 at Holy Faith Episcopal Church in Inglewood, Calif.
Mrs. Lawrence was born June 4, 1922, the 11th of 13 children born to John and Sylvia Rivers Shannon. She left for the “Mansion in the Sky” on Sept. 16, 2010.
She was an anointed child and became a founding members of the West Palacios Church of God of Prophecy at the age of 9. At the age of 10 she followed the call of Evangelism and sang in revivals while her sister, Dorothy Deadrick, preached and helped establish missions for the church in the early days.
Virginia excelled at everything: professional homemaker, master gardening, interior decorating, seamstress, bookkeeping, gourmet cooking, home improvements, and fundraising. She was a church clerk and treasurer (35 yrs.), Sunday School teacher (30-yrs.) and song leader (35-yrs).
She leaves to cherish her memory her children Lee (Danny) Lawrence III, Tisa Lawrence-Burrell, Kimberly Lawrence-Clayborn and son-in-law Gregory; grandchildren James M. Jordan, Shannon Lawrence and Lee Lawrence IV; great-grandchildren Lee Lawrence V, Jamila, Jade Luna and Roy; brother Troy Shannon of Merced, Calif.; beloved sister and best friend Dora Lewis of Palacios, Tx. and Johnnie Nelson of Los Angeles, Calif.
She was preceded into Glory by her beloved brothers and sisters Winnie Shannon, Adelaide Williams, Myrtle Deadrick, Calanthe Deadrick, Grace Carter, Dorothy Deadrick, Estella and Vera Reed, and Willie Shannon.
ARNOLDO JONATHAN RAMOS
Funeral services for Arnoldo Jonathan Ramos, 23, of Palacios, Tx., were held Oct. 1, 2010 at Primera Iglesia Bautista, 4th & Morton in Palacios, with Pastor Juan Aguilera officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery in Palacios.
Mr. Ramos was born Aug. 17, 1987, in Piedras Negras, Coah., Mexico, to Arnoldo Ramos of Piedras Negras, Coah., Mexico and Damaris Escovedo of Palacios. He died Sept. 25, 2010.
He is survived by his parents; daughter, Nevaeh Lavinge De La Cruz of Palacios; sisters, Selene Maria Ramos, Edith Kathiria Ramos, and Dania Hilda Ramos, all of Palacios; and brother, Eduardo Ramos of Palacios.
Pallbearers were Eloy Perez, Eduardo Ramos, Francisco J. Boone, Jose G. Delgado, Daniel A. Escovedo, Roland Ramos, Marcos Ramos Jr., Raymundo Trujillo, and Victor Mandugo.

JUAN H. RODRIGUEZ, JR.
A memorial service for Juan H. Rodriguez, Jr., 75, of Monroe, Mich., was held Sept. 25, 2010 at the Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center in Monroe with Pastor Sean O’Neal officiating.
Mr. Rodriguez was born Nov. 18, 1934 in Nuevo Leon, Mexico to the late Juan and Jesusa Rodriguez. He graduated into God’s Kingdom on Sept., 19, 2010 after complications following a recent stroke.
Juan was honored last year with a Faith of Our Fathers VIP (Vision, Integrity, Purpose) Award for Father’s Day at Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center for his inspiration, dedication, and purpose to family and church. He drove buses for Monroe County Schools and retired from Ford Motor Company, after 18 years of service, in 1996. He enjoyed geometric drawing, playing the bass at Nation Gospel Tabernacle, Oregon, Ohio, and talking about the Lord. He was a faithful member of Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center in Monroe, Mich., and was well-endeared and remembered as being “the most handsome man”.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lydia; sons, Juan (Christine), David (Michelle), and Ricardo (Debora); grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jesiah, Tyler, Jacob, Hailey, and Vincent; siblings and their spouses Jose (Juanita), Andrea Sagastique, Ramon, Rosa (Joe) Ramirez, Jesse (Belinda), Eduardo (Blanca), Jaime, Louis (Rosalinda), and Cecilia (Fidel) Salazar, all from Texas.

JOSEPHINE ‘Jody’ ROACH GONZALES
Funeral services for Josephine “Jody” Roach Gonzales, 98, of Palacios, Tx., were held at Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Gonzales passed away Sept. 21, 2010 in the arms of her daughter, minutes after having received the Last Sacrament, administered by Msrg. Leo Wleczyk.
On Aug. 3 she had celebrated her 98th birthday with family, friends, and the entire Country Village Care Center, where she had been a resident.
Josephine had been a life long resident of Palacios, active at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Choir, altar society, and as “Parcel Post Lady” at church bazaars.
She is survived by her four children: Louis Nicholas Gonzales Sr.; Aurora Jordan; Rudy Gonzales Jr.; and Betty Bartness. Also Carmen Gonzales, Gary Bartness, and friend and caregiver Lucia Alvarez Hernandez.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rudy Gonzales Jr. She was the last surviving member of the Roach Clan of Palacios: Mary Louise Frazier; Ben Roach, Margaret Balderas, Walter Roach, Johnny Roach, Dorothy Ottino and Ralph Roach.
Pallbearers were Nicky Gonzales, Bret Bartness, Bart Bartness, Aaron Mason, Ryan Mason, and Terry Coldwater. Honorary pallbearers were Ben Bartness, Stan Mason, Gary Bartness, Rudy Gonzales IV, Auggie Gonzales, and Tommy Roach.
The family is appreciative of the love and care of each individual at Country Village.

ELAINE WEBB
Funeral services Elaine Webb, 88, of West Lafayette, Indiana (previously of Pensacola Beach, FL) were held Sept. 24, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pensacola. Burial was at Barrancas National cemetery in Pensacola.
Mrs. Webb was born Aug. 22, 1922 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania to the late Samuel Arthur King and Mary (Anderson) King. She passed away Sept. 15, 2010 at home after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She married
Leslie E. Webb Jr. on March 24, 1946 in Orlando, FL. Elaine attended Cornell University New York Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her RN degree. She later earned a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso.
She served in the Army Nurses Corps and was stationed on the island of Guam during WWII. She later worked as a public school nurse in Falfurrias, TX, a hospital nurse in Palacios, TX, and an emergency room nurse in El Paso, TX.
She enjoyed playing tennis and basketball, gardening, reading, and walking the beach. In later years, she enjoyed eating her favorite foods, listening to music, and basking in the sunshine.
She is survived by sons Leslie E. (wife Mutsuko) Webb of Kyoto, Japan, Robert T. (wife Lynda) Webb of Midland, TX, and Ralph T. Webb of Fairfax, VA; daughter Mary Alice Webb of West Lafayette; and grandchildren Thomas, Alex and Natey Webb.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 2, 2007, two sisters and one brother.

DOROTHY L. HAMLIN
Funeral services for Dorothy L. Hamlin, 86, of Palacios, Tx., were held Sept. 22, 2010 at Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. June White officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Hamlin was born Jan. 17, 1924 in Round Rock, Tx. to the late Richard Nelson Thompson and Margaret Elizabeth Daniel Thompson. She passed away June 20, 2010.
She was a longtime resident of Palacios and worked as a cook in several area restaurants.
She is survived by sons Richard B. Hamlin and Kenneth W. Hamlin and wife Yvonne all of Palacios; sisters Dora Ann Rogers of Hobbs, NM and Nellie Rockenbaugh of Palacios; 9 grandchildren; and numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eldon H. Hamlin, Sr.; daughter Dorothy Marie Hill; son Eldon H. Hamlin, Jr.; sister Hazel Hominick; brothers Fulton, Russell Gilford, O. B., and Nelson Thompson and 3 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Albert Gonzales, Tommy Beard, Gene Young, Philip Hamlin, Eldon Hill and Tim Hill, MD.

LEON C. GATICA
Funeral Mass for Leon C. Gatica, 92, of Palacios, was held Sept. 21, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios. Interment was at Palacios cemetery with Military Honors.
Mr. Gatica was born April 11, 1918 in Matagorda, Tx. to the late Antonio and Simona Camacho Gatica. He went to be with the Lord on Sept. 16, 2010.
Leon served his country in the Army during World War II as a cannoneer. He served in the Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern (EAME) Campaign Medal with five bronze campaign stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
He is survived by his sister, Dominga Solis of Palacios.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Blasa Diaz and Sabina Paula Rivas; brothers Monico, Maximo, Frank, Herman and Lino Gatica.
Pallbearers were Mike, Robert and Marcus Gatica, Daniel Herrera, Daniel Rivas and Randy Diaz.
