ADDA BELLE CUTSHAVER
A memorial service for Adda Belle Cutshaver, 86, Barnesville, Ohio, was held Aug. 18, 2010 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Barnesville.
Mrs. Cutshaver was born July 10, 1924 in Somerton, Ohio to the late Virgil and Iva (Gibbons) Carter. She died Aug. 15, 2010 at her home.
She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Barnesville.
She is survived by a son Lee (Jenny) Cutshaver of Barnesville; daughters; Shirley (Steve) Eiler of Cleburne, Tx., Joyce (Tom) Jenkins-Howard of Dublin, Ohio and Shelly (Jim) Thompson of Barnesville; step-daughter Virginia Edwards of Barnesvill; brothers Gerald Carter of Sebring, Ohio and Virgil (Marilyn) Carter of Minerva, Ohio; sister Lillis Flenniken of New Castle, Pa.; 8 grandchildern; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur J. Cutshaver; brothers Wilford, Julius and Norman Carter; and sister Olive Spencer.
MARIA CONCEPSION PEREZ
Funeral services for Maria Concepsion Perez, 95, of Palacios, Tx., were held Aug. 18, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Perez was born Dec. 8, 1914 in Goliad, Tx. to the late Pablo and Santana Gonzalez Becerra. She passed away Aug. 16, 2010.
She is survived daughters Maria Luisa Gaitan and husband Daniel, Matilda Munoz and husband Frank, and Maxine Perez; sister Margarita Zavala; 20 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Trinidad Perez, Sr.; and son Trinidad Perez, Jr.
Pallbearers were Daniel Gaitan, Gilbert Guzman, Frank Munoz, Paul Munoz, San Juan Cabrales and Richard Cabrales.

RAYMOND ALLEN MITCHELL
A Memorial Service for Raymond Allen Mitchell, 74, of Palacios, Tx., were held August 18, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Palacios with Rev. June White officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell was born May 23, 1936 in Crane, Tx. to the late Royce R. and Mary Pastusek Mitchell. He passed away Sunday, August 15, 2010 in Bay City.
Mitch grew up in the Gulf Camps in the Odessa area. He started his college career at Rice University, but ended up transferring to the University of Texas in Austin and graduated in May of 1959. In 1962 Mitch received his Masters Degree from the University of New Mexico. On Aug. 31, 1957 he married
Marilyn Johnson in Palacios.
Mitch was a political activist, environmentalist, Registered Professional Engineer, and had vast experience with the Space Program working directly with the astronauts. He was a man of many talents, who loved his church and Palacios as well. Mitch was a Plank owner of the Live Poets’ Society and Yellow Dog Democrat. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather with a wry sense of humor. Mitch showed great courage during his many bouts of illness, and would never give up fighting. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping form a new Methodist Church in Pearland in 1996, where he was a Lay Pastor.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn Johnson Mitchell of Palacios; daughter Julie Weiss and husband Brett; son Brett Mitchell; grandson Michael Worsham; sister Nancy McCarley and husband Bob; nieces Lee Ann McCarley and Laurie Sistak; brother-in-law Don Johnson and wife Donna; nephews Jeff Johnson and Matt Johnson; numerous cousins; and cats Selena and Foster.
Pallbearers were Dale Behnke, Gene Allen, John Connor, Brett Weiss, Michael Worsham and Don Johnson.

RUTH H. PIERCE
A Memorial Service for Ruth H. Pierce, 94, of Blessing, Tx., will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Bay City with Dr. Jim Ely officiating. Burial will follow at Hawley cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.
Mrs. Pierce was born July 21, 1916 in Palacios, Tx. to George A. and Lena S. Harrison. She passed away peacefully in her home in Blessing Aug. 13, 2010.
As a child, she lived on the family farm at Prairie Center, between Blessing and Palacios. Her father was a long-standing county commissioner during the difficult years of the Great Depression. She was the oldest sister to four siblings: Naomi Brown, Marion Robinson, George “Bill” Harrison, and Laura Huddleston.
She attended Palacios High School and graduated as valedictorian of her class. After attending Rice University and the University of Texas, she earned a BA in Chemistry with honors and a subsequent Masters degree in Bacteriology. These were uncommon accomplishments for women at that time. While employed as a medical technologist in Houston, she met her future husband Abel B. Pierce, Jr., of Blessing. They were married
at St John’s Episcopal Church on October 3, 1942.
From 1938 to the present she was a member of the Iota Sigma Pi Honorary Fraternity for Women in Chemistry. She was an avid historian and co-founded the Blessing Historical Foundation, a non-profit organization aiding the upkeep of the historic Blessing Hotel. Her interest in history was secondary only to her interest in genealogy, prompting her to commission a Pierce family history that when unrolled spilled over the edges of a ten-foot table. She was a lifetime member of the Matagorda Co. Historical Museum Board, as well as the Contemporary Handweavers of Texas, serving as President from 1966-67. She was a lifelong member and devoted supporter of St John’s Episcopal Church, Palacios.
She is survived by daughter Adelaide Carter and her husband Gary, daughter Sally, son Jonathan, his wife Anna-Maria, and their daughter Jennifer; and her dear sister Naomi Brown.
She is lovingly remembered by all who knew her as a remarkable woman and will be sorely missed.

TOMMY SCHULTZ
Beloved husband and father, Tommy Schultz, 83, of Palacios, Tx. passed away Aug. 11, 2010.
Graveside services were held Aug. 16, 2010 at the Palacios cemetery with Rev. Hollie Briscoe and Rev. Bob Keprta officiating.
Mr. Schultz was born June 25, 1927 in Houston, Tx. to the late Tom Awalt and Bertie Lee Thompson Schultz.
He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII as a Seaman 1st Class on the USS Maryland. He was a devoted member of Caranachua Community Church; member and past-president of Good Sam Club; member and past-president of Telephone Pioneers; and a former Little League Softball coach in Houston. He was a marketing manager for Southwestern Bell working in Houston for 22 years and retiring in San Antonio in 1985 after a total of 37 years.
He is survived by his wife Jerry Schultz of Palacios; daughters Karen Hadaway and husband Ray of Iola, Tx. and Tess Flores and husband Steve of Palacios; son Ron Schultz of Palacios; sister Maurine Bauer of Cypress, Tx.; grandchildren Shannon Bullard, Tony Hadaway and wife Meredith, Reagan Hadaway, Amanda Schultz, Gordon Schultz, Lauren Flores-Morales and husband Adrian, and Kimberlee Flores; great-grandchildren Marshall Palmer, Nolan Palmer and Natalie Hadaway; and many nieces, nephews other family members and friends. He also leaves behind his beloved cat “Sheba”.
Pallbearers were Ray Hadaway, Steve Flores, Johnny Lloyd, Adrian Morales, James Janacek, George Weigel and Carl Baldwin.

EUGENE MARTIN VYVIAL
Eugene Martin Vyvial, 67, of Blessing, Tx., went to be with our Lord on July 28, 2010.
A rosary was recited July 30 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Mass was July 31 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing with the Reverend Peter Yeoboah-Amanfo officiating. Interment followed at St. Peter’s Catholic cemetery in Blessing.
Mr. Vyvial was born on May 31, 1943, in Jackson County, to the late Roman Alvin Vyvial and Annie Kazmir Vyvial.
Gene lived in Blessing for over 20 years. He was a master plumber and worked for Brown and Root Company. Gene loved being outdoors and nature. His favorite past times were spending time with his family and friends, gardening, fishing, hunting, and watching western movies. He always had a beautiful Spring and Fall vegetable garden. His sense of humor, his laugh, his presence and love of life will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by daughters Joy Langley, of Downsville, LA, Tara Blankenship, of Blessing and Katrina Langley of Monroe, LA; son Roman Eugene Vyvial and wife, Daisy, of Mountain Home, ID; 8 grandchildren; sisters Janet Harvey, of El Campo, Joyce Rozner of Bay City, Ramona Hahn and husband James of Lolita and Andrea Chambless and husband Bobby of Ganado.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Alvin Vyvial; a sister, Gladys Ann Berger; and a grandson, Austin William Thompson.
Pallbearers were James Hahn, Tony Berger, Bryan Berger, James Rozner, Tony Kacer, and Jason Chambless.
Honorary Pallbearers were his grandchildren Kyle Accardo, Tyler Langley, Christopher Collins, Guy Blankenship, Victoria Reed, Alan Thompson, Roman Edward Vyvial, Yessi Henriquez, and a stepdaughter Kathy Sheppard.
GLENITH MARIE LEGG PARKER
Funeral services for Mrs. Glenith Parker, 79, of Wharton, Tx. were held Aug. 11, 2010 at the Peace Tabernacle Church in Wharton with Brother Fisher officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery in Palacios, Tx.
Mrs. Parker was born on Jan. 19, 1931 in Palacios to the late Early Legg and Lel Evans Legg. She passed away Aug. 7, 2010 in Waco following an extended illness.
Glenith lived in Palacios her entire life until she moved to Wharton in 2004. She married
Almon Billy Parker on Oct. 15, 1949 in Palacios and he preceded her in death on June 11, 1989. Glenith was a housewife who enjoyed reading books, working crossword puzzles and word searches, buying merchandise from catalogs, and loved to read her Bible multiple times a day. She was a member of the Peace Tabernacle Church in Wharton.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Burghardt; brothers Rev. Jesse A. Legg, Dan Legg, Ray Legg and Early James Legg; and grandchildren Keith Allen Parker and Stephen Bradley Parker.
She is survived by daughters Mary Alice Parker Luna and husband George, and Shirley Jean Barbee all of Waco; sons Billy Wayne Parker and wife De’Andrea of Carrollton and Johnie Almon Parker and wife Linda of Wharton; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Andrew Parker, Jonathan Parker, Covey Barbee, Ryan Luna, Chais Castro and Christian Vargas.
