GUADALUPE G. AGUILERA
Funeral services for Guadalupe G. Aguilera, 90, of Palacios, Tx, were held April 18, 2009 at Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Juan Aguilera officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Aguilera was was born Oct. 10, 1919 in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico to the late Jose and Margarita Garcia. She passed away peacefully April 13, 2009 at Palacios Community Medical Center.
She was known as “Mama Lupita” by all her family. Although the family she leaves behind grieves, it is with a renewed and joyous hope. They ask that you, too, rejoice with them as they celebrate her long and prosperous life as she goes home to be with her loving husband.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Benito Aguilera, Sr.
She is survived by 12 children: Linda Zavala and Juan Aguilera of Palacios, Gonzalo Aguilera, Jesus Aguilera, Gloria Lopez and Margarita Arroyo of Eagle Pass, Tx, Benito Aguilera of Alvin, Tx, Jose Aguilera of Bay City, Tx, Angel Aguilera of Markham, Tx, Guadalupe Acevedo of North Carolina, Idalia Patifio of Tennessee and Consuelo Juarez of Minnesota; one brother, Manuel Garcia of Eagle Pass, Tx; 56 grandchildren; and 85 great-grandchildren.

ELIAS CARLOS DIAZ
Funeral services for Elias Carlos Diaz, 47, of Palacios, Tx, were held April 14, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Diaz was born Aug. 19, 1961, in Palacios, to Elias Diaz and Mary Dolores Benavides Diaz. He passed away April 11, 2009 in Houston, Tx.
He was a life long resident of Palacios and attended Casa de Dios Presbyterian Church of Palacios.
He is survived by his wife Bridgette Loff of Palacios; his mother Mary Diaz of Palacios; stepdaughter Christen Sandoval of Palacios; sons Elias Carlos Diaz, Jr. and wife Angel of Port Lavaca, Eric Canales and wife Areli of Houston, and Alfred Justin “AJ” Diaz of Corsicana; stepson David Sandoval III of Palacios; sisters Sandra Garcia husband Joseph of Palacios, Virginia Benavidez and husband Mike of Victoria, and Myra Diaz and husband Marcus Sanchez of Victoria; brother-in-law Nathan Loff of Palacios; and grandchildren Donovan Joe Diaz and Elias Carlos Diaz, III of Port Lavaca.
He was preceded in death by his father: Elias Diaz.
Pallbearers were Mario Rodriguez, Joe Pena, Victor Chaves, Freddie Jackson, Randy Flores, Sam Luna, Gabriel Gatica and David Tovar.

MARIA LOUISA RODRIGUEZ
Funeral Mass for Maria Louisa Rodriguez, 73, of Markham, Tx, were held April 15, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City, Tx. with Rev. Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Tx.
Mrs. Rodriguez was born July 1, 1935 in Bay City to Epemenio Lozano and Maria Anguiano Lozano. She passed away April 9, 2009.
She was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children Daniel Rodriguez, Jr., Bobby James Rodriguez, Martina Cervantes, Eddie Rodriguez, Freddie Rodriguez, Bonnie Rodriguez, Rosemary Rodriguez and Joe Felix Rodriguez; 28 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Rodriguez, Sr; daughters Janie Morales and Mary Helen Perez; sisters Delores Perez, Zoila Barron and Ceytana Guanajuato; and brothers Paul Lozano, Sr, Jose Lozano, Carmel Lozano and Raymon Ramirez.
Pallbearers were Andres Morales, Jr, Dionicio Morales, Patrick Perez, Jr, Paul Anthony Perez, Daniel Rodriguez, III, and Ryan Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Rodriguez and Bryan Rodriguez.

JOHN WILLIAM GRAFF
Funeral services for John William Graff, 81, of Palacios, Tx., were held April 16, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios with Rev. June White officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery.
Mr. Graff was born Aug. 16, 1927 in Fresno, California to the late John and June Lockwood Graff. He passed away April 12, 2009.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, served in the US Navy during WWII and had been a member of the Sweeny Masonic Lodge for 56 years.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Graff of Palacios; daughter and son-in-law Carol Ann and Robert Burnett of Goliad, Tx; son and daughter-in-law Rich and Keri Graff of El Campo, Tx; and grandsons Robert John Burnett, James Dean Burnett, William Cade Graff and Matthew Payne Graff.
Pallbearers were Dickie Kubecka, James Lingo, Ronnie White, Mickey White, Mike Davant and Lee Edward Pierce.

WYLIE E. LOGAN
Funeral services for Wylie E. Logan were held April 11, 2009 at Pilgrim Rose Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy Monore officiating.
Mr. Logan was born Nov. 27, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, Tx. to M.J. and Leatha Wilson Logan.
He attended schools in Mt. Vernon. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Evelyn Burgess-Washington and helped raise three devoted stepsons–Donald, Henry and Wendel Washington, Sr. He accepted Christ at an early age and moved to Palacios, Tx. in the late 50’s, later placing his membership with Pilgrim Rose Baptist Church. His most observed ministry was in “Training up a child in the way he should go and believing that he will not depart from it.” He exercised this ministry throughout the community in which he lived for many years and was well respected and loved by many children from all walks of life. Sharing of his ethics, great working skills and knowledge was his passion. His profession was a self-employed auto mechanic after spending years of employment with Maddock Ford, Marshall Chevrolet and Wharton County Jr. College’s Mechanical and Transportation Division.
Mr. Logan leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Mrs. Evelyn Burgess Logan; daughters Missionary Billy McCurdy (Superintendent William McCurdy) and Minister Roma Coleman (John) of Las Vegas, NV; stepsons Donald Washington (Colleen) of Victoria, Tx., Henry Washington (Fletchie) of Missouri City, Tx., and Wendel Washington, Sr. (Lydia) of Fresno, Tx; brother Billy E. Logan of Dallas, Tx.; 19 grandchildren; 31 gret-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
RICHARD E. SANDERS
Funeral services Richard E. Sanders, Sr., 90, of Palacios, Tx., were held April 3, 2009 at the First Baptist Church with the Reverends Zach Nicholson, Hollas Hoffman, Louis Rush and James Collins officiating.
Interment was at Palacios cemetery with military honors provided by Queen-Hamlin VFW Post 2467.
Mr. Sanders was born July 4, 1918 in Palacios to the late C. D. and Beatrice Barbara Ellis Sanders. He passed away March 30, 2009.
He was a member of the Palalcios First Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He has often been referred to as an upright, honest, compassionate Christian man.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Billie Ruth and Henry Jackson of Milano, TX, and Mary Helen and Johnny Johnson of El Campo, Tx.; son Richard E. Sanders, Jr. of Palacios; grandchildren Stacy Murrell and husband Michael, Sara Hymer and husband Tim, and David Jackson and wife Janna; great-grandchildren Heather and Ricky Murrell, Katherine Jackson, Marlie Hymer and Opie Jackson; and great-great-grandson Jonathan Murrell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Sanders; sisters Helen S. Murphy and Clara Mae Kuehm; and grandson Michael Jackson.
Pallbearers were David Jackson, Mike Murrell, Tim Hymer, Johnny Brady, Carrell Ramsey, Rob Kessler, Leo Neuszer and Donnie Harvey. The Deacons of the First Baptist Church and Members of the Truth Seekers Men’s Sunday School Class will served as honorary pallbearers.

FELIPA G. SANCHEZ

Mrs. Sanchez was born Dec. 13, 1919 in Mexico. She passed away March 31, 2009.
Felipa was a long time resident of Palacios, and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her brother Tony Gonzalez of Palacios; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sons: Louis, Phillip, Henry, Leo and August Sanchez.

MAYRA ANGELICA ESPINOSA
Funeral services for Mayra Angelica Espinosa, 19, of Clute, Tx. were held March 21, 2009 at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Clute with Father Jim Lynes officiating.
Mayra was born Oct. 1, 1989, in Laredo, Tx. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2009 in Houston.
She had attended school in Palacios until the fifth grade and graduated from Brazoswood High School in 2008.
She is survived by sons Sergio Luis Villicana, Jr. and Avian Joel Villicana; her fiancé, Sergio Luis Villicana, Sr.; parents Jose and Catalina Espinosa; grandparents Ramona Garcia, Roberto Espinosa and Jose Aguirre; brothers Robert Espinosa and Jose R. Espinoza, Jr.; and many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Micaela Aguirre.
