Graveside services for Adela R. Moreno, 80, of Palacios, Tx., were held Feb. 11, 2009 at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Moreno was born July 14, 1928, in McAllen, Tx. to Mr. and Mrs. Marcellino Rodriguez. She died Feb. 6, 2009 in Beeville, Tx.
She married
Jose Ignacio Moreno on Oct. 5, 1941. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2003.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary M. Garcia of Olivia; 10 grandchildren, Juanita (Richard) Duran of Palacios, Eulalio (Reba) Garcia of Kentucky, David (Tracy) Garcia of North Carolina, Victoria (Robert) Reyes of Beeville, Martha (Joe) Aldaco of Bay City, Teresa (Miller) Vinyard of Point Comfort, Michael Garcia and Victor Garcia of Victoria, Carlos Garcia of Beeville, Krystal (Jose) Baladez of Bloomington; 30 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; and many dear and close friends.
Pallbearers were Eulalio Garcia Jr., Michael Garcia, Victor Garcia, Carlos Garcia, Richard Duran Jr., Gabriel Duran, Robert Steven Reyes, and Victor Garcia Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
CLYDE CARLTON DEADRICK
Funeral services for Clyde Carlton Deadrick, 71, of Palacios, Tx. were held Feb. 11, 2009 at West Palacios Church of God of Prophecy, 9th & Ritchie. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Deadrick was born Feb. 18, 1937 in Palacios to Myrtle (Shannon) and Lawrence DeSoto Deadrick. He passed away Feb. 7, 2009 at Palacios HealthCare Center.
Clyde was a commercial fisherman (boat owner) for many years. He was also an avid sports fisherman with his oldest brother Eugene Deadrick and nephew Courtney Grigsby as fishing partners. “Captain Clyde” was well known throughout the entire Gulf Coast region of Texas – especially in Palacios and Port Lavaca. He was a certified welder and owner/operator of Deadrick’s Gulf on Main Street in the late 1960’s. He had many, many friends and acquaintances whom he dearly loved and respected; who also dearly loved and respected him, all the days of his life.
He was raised in a Christian household, and knew the truth of God’s word. He relied on the prayers of God’s people, and prayed many prayers himself for those in need. In recent months, he responded to the prompting of The Spirit and yielded his heart to Jesus. Earlier this month, he reunited with the West Palacios Church of God of Prophecy as a covenant member, with a testimony of salvation and the blessings of God’s love.
He is survived by his sister Winnie Mauryne Deadrick-Grigsby; brother Larry (Ruby) Deadrick; aunts Virginia Lawrence, Johnnie Nelson, Dora Lewis and Martha Matthews; uncle Troy Shannon; nieces Vera, Dawn “Tashie”, Denyce “Nicki”, Jeri, Rossana, Regina, Rhonda, Kay and June; nephews Anthony, Carl, Herbert, Eugene “Cap”, Donald “Cookie”, and Guy Robert; great-nieces Shannon, Cassye, Trenyce, Stefani, Novelyn and Tiffany; great-nephews Carlton, Mike, Terry, Leslie “Deg”, Courtney, Jr. “Mudah”, Todrae, Cory, Brandon, Nicholas and Larry; 22 great-great nieces and nephews; and a true host of relatives, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Eugene L. Deadrick, Sr. and L. D. Deadrick, Jr.; niece Loretta Deadrick Roy; and nephew Courtney Grigsby, Sr.
Kacie Qualls
A memorial service for Kacie Qualls, 56, of Palacios, TX, were held Feb. 15, 2009 at Jensen Point, Palacios.
Ms. Qualls was born June 13, 1952 in Tarrant County to John and Sue Klapp. She passed away at her residence Feb. 3, 2009.
She is survived by her father, John Klapp of Watoga, TX; sons Larry Webb of Longview, TX, Jeff Webb of West Mountain, TX and Chris Qualls of Palacios; brother Johnny Klapp of Illinois; sisters Janice Pruett and Melissa Buchanan both of Fort Worth, TX and four grandchildren.
Arrangements were with Matthews Funeral Home in Wharton, TX.
Rev. melvin l. Boone
Funeral services for Rev. Melvin Boone, 94, of Palacios, TX were held Feb. 5, 2009 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Bay City, TX with Rev. Gilbert Franklin presiding. Interment was at Eastview cemetery in Bay City.
Rev. Boone was born Feb. 5, 1914 in Brazoria County to Mr. and Mrs. Elry Boone. He passed away Jan. 28, 2009.
He attended high schools in Sweeny, TX and El Maton, TX. He was drafted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He received a Bachelors of Theology Degree from Mary Allen College in Crockett, Tx.
He became a member of Pilgrim Rose Baptist Church and was ordained as one of the first Deacons. He served until he was called into the Ministry and remained faithful and loyal. He was called to Pastor several churches. He became a Missionary of the Lincoln Southern District and at that time united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, TX.
He was affectionately known as ‘Uncle Melon’ by his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his son Elry Leon (Maggie); stepsons Arthur James Griggs (Barbara) and Anthony Wayne Griggs (Lanell); stepdaughters Alice Manning Pope, Marian Manning Brandy and Charlotte Griggs Gregory; daughter-in-law Rosie Manning; 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a family of loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Manning Griggs Boone; stepson George Edward Manning; sisters Mamie and Martha; and brothers Ira, Morgan, McKinley, Levi and Elisha.
Carl Seal, Jr.
Carl Seal, Jr., 57, of Palacios, TX, passed away Feb. 6, 2009 at Citizens Medical Center in Victoria, TX.
Mr. Seal was born March 21, 1951 in Fort Worth, TX. to the late Carl Sr. and Mary Alice Hopkins. He was a security guard.
He is survived by his sister, Paula Miller of Blessing, TX.
Arrangements were with Matthews Funeral Home in Wharton, TX.
PATRICIA ‘Patsy’ SMITH
Funeral services for Patricia “Patsy” Smith, 67 of Blessing, Tx., were held Feb. 7, 2009 at Palacios Funeral Home with Dr. Joseph N. Cannon, officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 8, 1941 in Palacios, TX to the late Ruth Lorena Jordan Blackburn and Benjamin Lewis Blackburn, Sr. She passed away Feb. 5, 2009 in Victoria, Tx.
She was a resident of Blessing for the past five years and was a former resident of Bay City. She was a member of the Baptist Church and was retired from Bay City ISD as a Teachers Aide for Special Education.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sharon and James Pegram of Blessing; son John Darrell Smith of San Antonio; sisters Benita Thompson of Palacios and Pearl Zemanek of Bay City; brother Benjamin Lewis Blackburn, Jr. of Lolita; and four grandchildren Scott and Justin Pegram and Joshua and Samantha Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband J. B. Smith; and her parents.
Pallbearers were Ricky Zemanek, Bobby Zemanek, Benjamin Blackburn, Brandon Blackburn, Stanley Petrisky, Ryan Naiser and James Orr. Honorary pallbearer was Gary Viets.

TIMOTHY DUANE FLORES
Funeral services for Timothy Duane Flores, 49, of Palacios, Tx., were held Jan. 30, 2009 at Agape Family Outreach Church in Palacios with Pastor Eric Young officiating. Interment was at Francitas cemetery.
Mr. Flores was born Aug. 21, 1959 in Palacios Tx. He died Jan. 25, 2009. He was a commercial shrimper.
He is survived by his wife, Krystal Sablatura Carmack, of Palacios; daughters Lottie Shell Flores and Dennie Jo Flores, both of Palacios; son, Timothy Yancey Flores, of Palacios; his father, Martin Maurice Knip III, of Bandera, Tx.; sisters Gina Shelle Ellis of Victoria and Robin Renee Harr of Corpus Christi; and brothers Russell Eugene Flores of Palacios and Mark Randall Flores of Bandera.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie Dell Campbell Knipp.
Arrangements were with Artero Memorial Chapels of Port Lavaca.
PATRICIA MICHELLE SHAW
Funeral services for Patricia Michelle Shaw, 54, were held Jan. 21, 2009 at The Chapel of Beresford Funeral Service in Houston with Pastor Larry Womack officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn cemetery.
Mrs. Shaw was born Aug. 25, 1954 in Houston to Louis and Margie McDuffie. She died Jan. 16, 2009 in Houston.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Michael Shaw; daughters and sons-in-law Kimberly and Wylie Arnett, Tonya and James Smith, and Brandy and James Fulton; sister and brother-in-law Kellie and Ronnie Moore; grandchildren Taylor Fralic, Terren Carter, Kolby Edmiston, Chelsey Phillips, Kylie Arnett, Keira Smith and Cade Fulton; nieces and nephews Shawn Mahoney, Jousha Mahoney, Alicia Mahoney, Samantha Burns, Katelyn Mahoney; grand-niece Brooke Burns; and her parents.
BILLY BETH BACON GRIFFITH
Billy Beth Bacon Griffith, 85, of Bellville, Tx. and formerly Rockport, Tx., died Jan. 18, 2009 at Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Lavaca, Tx. A family service will be held Feb. 7 in Cisco, Tx.
Mrs. Griffith was born April 16, 1923 in Cisco, Tx. to Ted and Ola Bacon. She was a veteran of World War II having served in the WACs. She was a retired educator, having taught 28 years in Rockport, Mathis and Bellville.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Sally and Eddie Sikes of Texas City, Susan Blake and Jessie O’Riley of Port Lavaca, Lucy and Rob Ziegler of Boerne, Tx., and Mary and Nick West of Palacios, Tx.; brother and sister-in-law Joe. T. and Janice Bacon of Fort Worth; and grandchilden McJohn Bagley, Carol Kmiec, Jay Revels and Chris, Billye, Ryan and Randy West, Dana Wild; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert R. Griffith, Jr.; brothers Bobby Bacon and Richard Bacon; and sister Lucille Bacon Hatton.
