MAURICIO ‘WHICHO’ SALINAS, JR.
The family of the late Whicho Salinas will host a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009 at the end of Turning Basin #1 in Palacios. They will recall memories and drop off flowers. Everyone is invited. A Mass will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
PASTOR ROBERT (Bob) BURCH
A memorial service for Pastor Robert “Bob” Eugene Burch, 64, of Palacios, were held Jan. 4, 2008 at Solid Rock Fellowship in Palacios with Sister Lanita Slaughter officiating.
Pastor Burch was born Nov. 10, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa, to the late Ernest Burch and Hattie Gruver Burch. He died Dec. 29, 2008.
He was the pastor of Solid Rock Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Joe Petty Burch of Palacios; daughters, Deanna Otte of Kansas City, Mo., Cindy Rodda of Pleasantville, Iowa, and Theresa Machacek of Palacios; brothers, John Burch of Branson, Mo., and George Burch of Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Arrangements were with Artero Memorial Chapels, Port Lavaca.
BETTY ANN BEANE
Funeral services for Bettty Ann Beane, 69 of Blessing, Tx., were held Jan. 2, 2009 at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo with Rev. Hollie Briscoe officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery.
Mrs. Beane was born on Sept. 25, 1939 to the late Louis and Lucille Jacobs Venglar in Wharton, Tx. She died Dec. 30, 2008.
She is survived by her husband J.L. Beane of Blessing; daughter, Lisa Holloway of Blessing; son, David Beane and wife, Lori of Blessing; sisters, Clara Bennetsen of Wharton and Jean Berry of Palacios; brother, Robert Venglar of El Campo; grandsons, Rhett Holloway of Blessing and David Beane, Jr . of Blessing; granddaughters, Nicole Holloway of Edna, Allyson Griffith of Palacios, and Emily Beane of Blessing; great-granddaughters, Makenzie Holloway of Edna, Kailee Beane of Blessing, and Peyton Stall of Edna; and great-grandsons, Clyde and Justin Griffith of Palacios, and Brent Beane of Blessing.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Leroy Venglar.
Pallbearers were Rhett Holloway, David Beane, Jr., Travis Stall, C.J. Griffith, Wade Venglar, and Steven Venglar.

BERNIECE R. “BEA” SIEFKES
Funeral services for Berniece “Bea” R. Siefkes 72, of Lincoln, Neb.; were held Dec. 30, 2008 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Interment was at Lincoln Memorial Park.
Mrs. Siefkes was born Feb. 13, 1936, at Filley, Neb. She died Dec. 27, 2008.
She was raised on the family farm near Filley and baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Pickrell, Neb. She graduated Filley High School in 1953 and was united in marriage to Robert R. Freese on April 4, 1956, to which four daughters were born. She spent much of her life as a homemaker and seamstress. Her talents included making her daughters’ wedding dresses and for the entire bridal party. On Feb. 15, 1986, Bea was united in marriage to John J. Siefkes.
Survivors include: daughters and spouses, Vicki and Joe Adams of Palacios, Tx., Suzy and Dennis McAtee; Bobbi and Jim Hunt; and Sandi Freese; grandchildren Denika (Cody) Means; Shea and Danielle Adams; Andy, Spencer, and Brady McAtee, Brandon, Amanda, and Skyler Hunt, Jordan Gausman and James Long; brothers Arnold Dorn and family; and Norman Dorn and family; sister Arlene Buss and family; and John’s children Mike, Chris, Trisha and their families.
She was preceded in death by husband, John; sisters Annetta and LorAnna “Lori”; and brothers Harvey, Bernard and Arthur “Art.”
ROMOLO PENA GARCIA
Funeral services for Romolo Pena Garcia, 81, of Palacios, Tx., were held Dec. 29, 2008 at St. Anthony’s De Padua Catholic Church with Father Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Garcia was was born July 6, 1927, in Blessing, Tx. to the late Pablo Garcia Sr. and Guadalupe Pena Garcia. He died Dec. 24, 2008.
He was a retired metal refinisher and a Catholic.
He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia Ann Davalos of Markham, Elvia Marie Saldierna of Palacios, Yvette Fay Sanchez of Palacios, and Liza Marie Rodriguez of Bay City; son, Mario Garcia of Palacios; sisters, Virginia Benavides of Corpus Christi and Geneva Cooke of Palacios; brothers, Thomas Garcia of Houston and Arturo Garcia of Palacios; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangelina Garza Garcia; sister, Maria Rocha Garcia; and brothers, Pablo Garcia Jr., Jesus Garcia Sr., and Eusebio Garcia.
Pallbearers were Leno Garcia, Hector Garcia, Gary Garza, Oscar Garcia, Ignacio Benavides, and Michael Benavides.
Arrangements were with Artero Memorial Chapels, Port Lavaca.
MAURICIO (WICHO) SALINAS JR.
Mauricio Salinas Jr., 85, of Palacios, Tx., went to be with the Lord on Dec. 17, 2008, in Mexico.
He was born May 19, 1923 to the late Mauricio Salinas and Bartola Gonzales Salinas, of Louise, Tx.
Mr. Salinas came to Palacios in 1936 and was a fisherman all his life. He truly loved the Matagorda Bay.
He is survived by his wife Esther Salinas, of Durango, Mexico; his sister Nieves Salinas Samora of Rosenberg, Tx.; and all his nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; his brothers Jesus, Zaragoza (Z.G.), Santos, and Joe; sisters Maria Trevino and Francis Cunningham; and five other infant siblings.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
DAVID DWAYNE BRODERICK
David Dwayne Broderick, 40, of Plantersville, Tx., departed this life for his Heavenly home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Dec. 15, 2008.
Mr. Broderick was born July 6, 1968 in Port Lavaca, Tx. to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Broderick Sr.
He is survived by his wife Laura; daughter Ashleigh; son Aaron, his mother and her husband Betty and Barry Burch of Zavalla, Tx.; and his father and his wife Richard and Deanna Broderick, Sr. of Plantersville, Tx.
David professed his belief in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the home of his mother after a church service at Lakewood Baptist Church in Zavalla. We will always mourn his passing while being thankful to God for loaning him to us for 40 years. We look forward to our reunion with him when we go to the Heavenly Father. That will be a great day. Lord, please grant us your grace in this tragic time for you have promised in your word, the Holy Bible, that your grace is sufficient, you will not put more on us than we can stand, in Christ’s name, Amen.
ROBERT ESPINOSA
Funeral services for Robert Espinosa, 56, of Lake Jackson, Tx. were held Nov. 24, 2008 in St. Paul’s Catholic Church, San Antonio. Interment was in San Antonio.
Mr. Espinosa was born Aug. 8, 1952 in Palacios to Juanita Alvarez Espinosa and the late Guadalupe Espinosa, Sr. He died at his home Nov. 20, 2008 after a long illness.
He graduated from Palacios High School in 1971. He married
Margaret Castro Espinosa on Oct. 6, 1979 in St. Paul’s Catholic Church, San Antonio. Robert was a devoted husband, a loving father and an adoring grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
He was employed by Dow Chemical for 24 years and the Chocolate Bayou Plant in Brazoria County for two years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Mrs. Margaret Espinosa of Lake Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Venessa and Christopher Harrell and granddaughter, Caylin Harrell; and step-son and daughter-in-law, Marcos and Norma Romero. He is also survived by his mother, Juanita Espinosa of Palacios; sisters Theresa (Terry) Espinosa Farina of Tequesta, Florida; Carol Espinosa Guajardo of Benevides, Tex; Diana Espinosa Galindo of San Antonio; Janet Espinosa Flores of Austin; and brother, Anthony Espinosa of LaMarque, Tx.
ALFRED OREN TURNER
Family graveside services for Alfred Oren Turner, 73, of Gonzales and formerly of Palacios, Tx., were held Dec. 1, 2008 at Harwood cemetery in Harwood, Tx. with Rev. Glynn Behrent officiating.
Mr. Turner was born Dec. 12, 1934 in Palacios to Oran Issac and Leola Hebel Turner. He entered into eternal rest on Nov. 28, 2008.
He married
Elaine Tumlinson on Oct. 13, 1961. He was a tug boat operator for over 25 years and loved to garden and listen to old country and western music.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Turner, of Harwood; daughter and son-in-law Judy Amenda Turner and Terry Gibson of Teague, Tx.; son and daughter-in-law Jimmy Allen and Laura Turner of Luling, Tx.; sister Barbara Legg of Sweeney, Tx.; and grandchildren Laura Lynn Turner, Grant Allen Turner, Jenna Leola Turner, Bradley Wayne Gibson, Nicholas Ryan Gibson, Ashley Nicole Motloch, and Matthew Thomas Bebee.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Turner, Bradley Gibson, Terry Gibson, August Motloch III, and Grant Turner.
