BENNYE DEAN ADAMS
Graveside services for Bennye Dean Adams, 79, of Palacios, Tx., were held Dec. 4, 2008 at the Kosse City cemetery, Kosse, Tx.
Mrs. Adams was born in Kosse, Tx. on Dec. 4, 1928 to Ben and Irene Humphres. She died Dec. 2, 2008.
She married
the love of her life, Rufus Adams, in Kosse on Sept. 21, 1946. They moved to Palacios in 1951 where they raised their two kids and enjoyed the friendship of many. Bennye’s love of cooking carried over into her job in the dietary department of Palacios ISD where she worked for over 20 years. After her retirement, she concentrated full-time on the job she loved most, caring for her husband, kids and grandkids.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Spree of Victoria; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Teresa Adams of Richmond; grandchildren Kim Spree, Shannon Spree, Shelby Nicknish, Cassie Adcock, Carrie Fehlis, Laney Adams, and Carly Adams; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Bennye was preceded in death by her husband Rufus; parents; and brother, Darrell Humphres.

PATSY NELL HOFFMAN
Funeral services for Patsy Nell Hoffman, 61, of Gonzales, were held Dec. 4, 2008 in the First United Methodist Church in Gonzales with Dr. Harvey Hoffman officiating. Interment was at Live Oak cemetery in Manchaca.
Mrs. Hoffman was born July 14, 1947 in Austin, Texas to the late Leonard Darrell and Elna Blanche Seaton Harp. She went to her Lord and Savior on Dec. 1, 2008.
She graduated from Andersonville Bible College with a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education. She married
Hollas C. Hoffman on May 19, 1967 in Austin. She was a model pastor’s wife, always on the front lines with her big smile, sweet demeanor and supportive manner. She was a great mom, super wife and over the top grandma. She was always a devout member of her husband’s churches, the last being Eastside Baptist Church in Gonzales.
She is survived by her adoring husband of 41 years Rev. Hollas C. Hoffman of Gonzales; sons and a daughter-in-law, Hollas Clayton Hoffman of Katy, Christopher Dean and Jennifer Hoffman of Hutto, and Heath Clinton Hoffman of Hutto; sisters and brother-in-laws, Rae Johnson of Nashville, TN., Doris and Eugene Patches of Austin, and Joyce and Robert Jentsch of Wimberley; brother and sister-in-law Darrell and Norma Harp of Austin; and grandchildren Shelby Lynn, Kailey Belle, Haley Rachael, Heath Reid and Kinley Dean Hoffman.
Pallbearers are Trey Eilers, Michael Winfrey, Derek Staedtler, Trenton Helmcamp, Chad Pelaquin and Marc Tidwell.

ARTHUR L. NEWBOULD, JR
Funeral services for Arthur “Art” L. Newbould, 71, of Palacios, were held Dec. 2, 2008 at the Crowder Funeral Home in Webster, Tx. Interment was at Houston National cemetery.
Art passed away on Thanksgiving Day at his home in Palacios, Tx. He had lived there for several years and considered many local residents as his friends.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Army.
He is survived by sons David of Philadelphia, PA., Arthur III and Mark of Houston, Tx.; brothers Bob of Houston, Jim of Livingston and Jack of Onalaska; and sister Ann of Onalaska.
HAL GRADY McCOMIC
Memorial services for Hal Grady McComic, 79, of Palacios, Tx. was held Nov. 23, 2008, at Solid Rock Fellowship Church in Palacios with the Pastors Bob and Billy Burch officiating.
Mr. McComic was born July 19, 1929 in Hugo, Oklahoma to the late James Roy and Margurite McComic. He graduated to heaven on Nov. 8, 2008.
Hal was very proud of his Choctaw Indian heritage. He was a veteran of the Korean War. During his service he received the Good Conduct Medal, The Meritorious Unit Emblem, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of Palacios V.F.W. Post 2467 and had a great respect for his fellow veterans. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge.
He volunteered for many charities that needed his help including the Palacios Friend of Elder Citizens where he volunteered an enormous amount of hours and wrote a column for the Palacios Beacon. He was a member of the Solid Rock Fellowship Church.
He was survived by his sister and brother-in-law Betty and John Lanza, of Arcadia, CA; sister Helen Martindale of Anaheim, CA; sister-in-law Marlene McComic of Riverside, CA; and seven nieces and nephews.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roy Glenn McComic.

JOHN RUSSELL CUNNINGHAM
A memorial service for John Russell Cunningham, 43, of Bay City, was held Nov. 20, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. Zach Nicholson officiating.
Mr. Cunningham was born Sept. 17, 1965 in Palacios, TX to Clarence Henry Cunningham and Barbara Ann Lanmon Cunningham. He died Nov. 17, 2008.
He resided in Palacios and moved to Bay City in 2004. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palacios, was a Sales Representative for NAPA Auto Parts, a member of the National Limousine Association, a member of the N.R.A. and was the Athletic Director for the Bay City Youth Football Association.
He is survived by his wife, Constance W. Cunningham of Bay City; his mother, Barbara Cunningham of Palacios; his step-children Brittainy Michelle Helton of College Station, Brandon Scott Gavranovic and Brian Taylor Gavranovic, both of Bay City; and his sisters Betty Joan Reynolds and husband Tommy, and Phyllis Brooks and husband, Ned III, all of Palacios.
He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Henry Cunningham.

FRED McNISH
On Nov. 3, 2008 the Lord called for Fred McNish, 70, to join him. Fred was a long time resident of Tres Palacios Oaks and he loved to make people laugh. Fred also loved to play music, fish and hunt. He was retired as a Lather, Local Union 75.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela Williamson of Portales, NM; his music buddy/son-in-law, Kenny Williamson of Portales, NM; granddaughters ‘Ashley McNish’ Manasco of Clovis, NM and Morgan Williamson of Hampton, VA; great-granddaughter, Abigail Manasco; sisters June McNish, Juanita McNish, Cathy Flatford and Shirley Buenaga; and brother Glenn McNish.
Fred will be greatly missed by everyone, but his spirit will never be forgotten! I love you Daddy.
DOROTHY RAMSEY CUDE HILL
Graveside services for Dorothy Ramsey Cude Hill, 84, of Charolotte, NC were held Nov. 4, 2008 at Palacios cemetery in Palacios, Tx.
Mrs. Hill was born March 17, 1924 in Mecklenburg County to the late A. P. and Estelle Skipper Ramsey. She died Oct. 31, 2008.
She is survived by sons Steve Cude of Concord, NC, Rev. Thomas Edwin Cude of El Campo, Tx., William Hensley Cude of El Campo and Michael Robert Hill of Dayton, Tx.; sisters Margaret Lawing, Jean Stewart and Ann Bowers, all of Charlotte, NC; brother Carl Ramsey of Charlotte, NC; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hill.
Arrangements were with Matthews Funeral Home in Wharton.
VLASTA KOVAR
Funeral services for Vlasta Kovar, 93, of Palacios, were held Oct. 30, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Kovar was born on June 19, 1915 in Fayetteville, Tx. to the late Jacob and Julia Supak. She died Oct. 27, 2008.
She was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, cooking and baking, especially known for her apple strudel and kolaches. As a homemaker, she was an active member of the Jackson E.E.A. for 50 years. She was a member of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church and active in the Alter Society and KJZT.
Vlasta leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters and their spouses, Geraldine (Gerry) and Bill Stuhrenberg and Joan and Marvin Stuhrenberg, all of Palacios; grandchildren, Stephen and wife Michele Stuhrenberg of Palacios, Stacey Cegielski of Houston, Jamie Stuhrenberg of Palacios, Julie Stuhrenberg of Bryan and Jennie Stuhrenberg of College Station; and great-grandchildren Jarred, Paige and Clayton Stuhrenberg of Palacios and Sean and Ryan Cegielski of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jerome; sister, Christine Krejci; and great-grandson, Matthew Cegielski.
Pallbearers were Stephen, Jarred, and Jamie Stuhrenberg, Edwin Polasek, Clarence Kovar and Craig Wallis. Honorary pallbearer was John Rother.
