RUBEN G. QUINTANILLA
A memorial service for Ruben G. Quintanilla, 61, of Palacios, was held July 21, 2008 at the Church of Christ in Palacios with Pastor Jose Samudio officiating.
Mr. Quintanilla was born Feb. 26, 1947 in Robstown, Tx. to the late Ynocenio and Isabel Guerrero Quintanilla. He died July 13, 2008 at his home.
He was member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Palacios; daughter, Gracie Lynn Negrete, of Palacios; son Ruben Anthony Quintanilla, of Palacios; sisters Ramona Cordoba of Allentown, PA, Delia Alack and husband Patrick of Ponchatoula, LA, and Elma Constancio of Palacios; and grandchildren, Zachery, Jacob and Seth Quintanilla of Palacios, and Taylor and April Negrete of Palacios.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.
BETTY LOUISE BALES
Funeral services for Betty Louise Bales, age 78, of El Campo, Tx. were held July 31, 2008 at Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing.
Mrs. Bales was born April 29, 1930 in Rockport, Tx. to Gus and Adelaide Hicks Chupe. She died July 28, 2008 in El Campo.
She is survived by sons Tommy Ringo of Tucson, Az. and Harvey Ringo of El Campo; four grandchildren; brothers Gus Chupe of Seguin; and sisters Joyce Taylor of Bay City, Dorothy Lee Smith and Bonnie Ann Pulido both of Rockport.
She was preceded in death by a brother Chat Chupe.

DARRELL R. SAHA
Funeral services for Darrell R. Saha, 42, of Houston, were held July 30, 2008 at St.Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing, Tx. with Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment was at St. Peter’s Catholic cemetery in Blessing.
Mr. Saha was born Dec. 19, 1965 in Bay City to Ann Keller Saha and Louis Saha. He passed away July 27, 2008, in Houston.
He was a former resident of El Maton and had resided in Houston since 1991. He was an Engineer in Industrial Water Jetting, was a member of the A&M; Century Club and a member of the Water Jetting Technological Association.
He is survived by his wife Denise Kaderka Saha of Houston; parents Louis and Ann Saha of El Maton; brother Jeffrey D. Saha of Houston; maternal grandmother Barbara McKissick Keller Sullivan of Bay City; mother and father-in-law Richard E. and Elizabeth J. Kaderka of Rosenberg; numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins; and his loyal companions Thor and Zeus.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfathers Jay Kent Keller formerly of Markham and Wesley A. Sullivan formerly of Bay City; and by his paternal grandparents Louise Hickl Saha and Louis P. Saha, formerly of El Maton.
Pallbearers were Gene Perry, Schott Schobel, Taylor Vacek, Jason Hanson, Aaron Wehmeyer and Bryan Kaderka.

TU VAN NGUYEN
A funeral Mass for Tu Van Nguyen, 72, of Palacios, Tx., was held July 26, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Father Khoa Xuan Mai officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Nguyen was born Oct. 7, 1935 in Vietnam to the late Rung Nguyen and Cay T. Bui Nguyen. He died July 21, 2008 at Palacios Community Medical Center.
He had been a longtime resident of Palacios, and was a member of St. Anthony’s of Padua Church Vietnamese Apostolate in Palacios.
He is survived by his wife Ty Nguyen of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law Yen and Bryan Tran of Palacios and Chi and Steve Nguyen of Houston; sons and daughters-in-law Xung and Nga Than of Deer Park, Toan and Kim Vu Nguyen of Sugar Land, An Nguyen of Houston, and Phuong Nguyen of Houston; sister Hoi Nguyen of Vietnam; grandchildren Jackson, David, Teresa and Lisa Than, Julian, Jonathan, Joanna, Elise and Chloe Nguyen, Tiffany and Kimberly Tran, and Jennifer Lopez and husband Zach; and great-grandchild Gavin Lopez.
Pallbearers will be Sean Nguyen, Hung Anh Nguyen, Jesse Nguyen, Pete Nguyen, Tom Vu, Tuan Vu, Sanh Dinh, and Chau Dinh.

LUCILLE LaVERNE STALLARD ALTON
Funeral services for Lucille LaVerne Stallard Alton, 87, were held July 23, 2008 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Bro. Shan Jackson and Bro. Jose Sumiedo officiating. Interment was at the Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Alton was born Dec. 22, 1920 to Frank and Fannie Mae Rockenbaugh Stallard in Palacios, TX. She passed to her heavenly home July 20, 2008.
On May 18, 1940, Lucille married
James Lloyd Alton and to this union one son, Johnny Lloyd Alton was born. Lucille was blessed with many talents. Painting, crocheting, sewing, flower arranging and many others that she shared generously. There are very few who don’t have one or more of her paintings in their home. She was a lifetime member of the Palacios Church of Christ and she served faithfully in many capacities.
She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law Novella and Raymond Bales, Frankie Faye and Paul Cooper, Fannie Raye and Bill Ivy; sister-in-law Jackie Alton Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Alton; son, Johnny Lloyd Alton, her parents; brothers-in-law Walter Alton, Kenneth Alton and Lynn Cooper; sister-in-law Lois Nelson; and nephew Chris Alton.
Pallbearers were Steve Cooper, Rodney Cooper, Bryant Peterson, Charles Hutto, Pat Nelson and Chris Harvey. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Cooper, Bill Ivy, Raymond Bales, Kenneth Peterson and Charles Harvey.

DALE EDWARD SNODGRASS
A memorial service for Dale Edward Snodgrass, 82, of Palacios, Tx., was July 21, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. June White officiating.
Mr. Snodgrass was born Jan. 16, 1926 in Lone Elm, Kansas to the late Carl and Mable Snodgrass. He passed away peacefully at the Palacios home of his son, Ron Laws, on July 16, 2008 after a battle with cancer.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific and was recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Battlestar. His Naval experiences led him to an occupation as a machinist in Florida and Texas.
Dale loved his time with his extended family at the Palacios Senior Center, and R&R; time with the ladies at the real estate office. His greatest joy was watching his granddaughter, Jessica, participate in music activities, and his grandson, Russell, play sports. He enjoyed reading, walking the bay, and watching NASCAR races. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Karen Laws; granddaughter Jessica Laws of Arlington, Tx.; and grandson Russell Laws of Palacios.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Mary; brother Paul Snodgrass; and sister Meta Heiney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Palacios Senior Citizens Center.
C. O. "BULL" LAWSON
A celebration of life for Clarence Otho Lawson, 78, of Olivia, Tx., was held July 21, 2008 at at the Point Comfort Baptist Church located at 201 Jones St. in Point Comfort.
Mr. Lawson was born Dec. 7, 1929 on a dairy farm in Wichita Falls, Tx.to Clarence and Bernice Lawson. He succumbed to lung cancer on July 16, 2008.
He graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1948. Because of his excellence on the football field, Clarence was awarded a scholarship to Texas A&M.; Although he didn’t complete a degree from A&M;, he remained a loyal Aggie. Clarence was married
to Bobbie Jean Brown, his high school sweetheart, for 48 years before she succumbed to cancer in 1997.
Clarence retired from Alcoa after 32 years as a welder, a skill he learned from his father-in-law. Upon his retirement, he was able to do the thing that he had always wanted to do….travel to Australia. In 2004, Clarence “slowed down” and “let” Laura Phillips “catch him”. They married
on Oct. 16, 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; his children and their spouses Kathy and Jim Brock of Plana, Tx., Karen and Paul Sarcione of Meadowlakes, Tx., and Scott Lawson and Cathy Hermes of Dansville, NY.; Laura’s children and their spouses Cheryl and Joey Robinson, Wallace and Dawn Phillips, and Tammie and Wesley Bisset; his mother, Bernice Lawson; brother, Bill Lawson; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a multitude of relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the medical personnel at MD Anderson for their effords in fighting Clarence’s lung cancer and to HOSPICE.

GERALDINE (Jerry) JONES
Funeral services for Geraldine (Jerry) Jones, 91, of Palacios, Tx. were held July 11, 2008 at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Kerrville, Tx. with Pastor Russell Page officiating. Interment was at Garden of Memories.
Mrs. Jones was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Magnolia, AR. She died July 8, 2008 at her residence in Palacios.
On June 8, 1940, she married
Paul Jones. He preceded her in death. Jerry lived in Kerrville, TX from 1978 until 2004, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kerrville.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses Paula Carson and her husband, Terry Carson of Palacios, Doug Jones and his wife, Mary Jones of Denver, CO, and Ron Jones and his wife, Dawn Jones of Parker, CO; grandchildren Christin Thomson of Evergreen, CO, Marci Cherwinski of Elgin, Tx, Lori Jones of Austin, Tx, Justin Jones of Tulsa, OK, Matthew Jones of Tulsa, OK, Anna Jones of Monument, CO, Bree Jones of Parker, CO and Colton Jones of Parker, CO; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Collins of Dallas, Tx.
