HAROLD GENE HARPER, SR.
A memorial service for Harold Gene Harper Sr., 68, lifetime resident of Palacios, TX, was held June 15, 2013 at 109 Commerce Street in Palacios.
Harold Harper – Red, as his brothers and sisters referred to him – was born April 14, 1945, to the late John A. Harper and Farica P. (Polly) Harper in Lockhart, and passed away June 6, 2013 in Palacios.
He is survived by his sons, Harold Harper Jr., Jeffrey Harper, and Markus Harper; brothers Johnny Harper, Hubert Harper, and Russell Harper; sisters Susan Rich, Marilyn Waring, and Priscilla Harper; as well as his 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Jackson Harper and his only wife Maxine.
Harold (HG) was an avid Cowboys fan, brisket champion, pool shark, expert welder, and guitar player. Harold's impact on the community can be seen around town in the houses, boats, barbecue pits, and felt in the hearts of the people of Palacios.

RODNEY McCLAREN WHEATON
After a valiant fight with cancer, Rodney McClaren Wheaton, 82, of Palacios, passed away on May 16, 2013.
He was born to Howard McClaren Wheaton and Esther Isabelle Peck Wheaton in Kirkwood, New York, on July 23, 1930.
Rodney served in the U.S. Army from 1947-1952 and was a Korean veteran. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working outside and woodworking.
He is survived by seven children and their spouses, Karen and Dan Alvord, Timothy Wheaton, Eugene Wheaton, John Wheaton, Kietha Robertson, Dana and Gina Wheaton, and Kathleen Wheaton; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elnore Knapp; two brothers, Ronald Wheaton and Clair Wheaton; and a significant other, Shirley Hattenbach.
He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Ruth “Hattie” Wheaton; a sister, Avis Klug; and three brothers, Larry Wheaton, Robert Wheaton and Greg Wheaton.
The family is planning a private memorial service, and details of a public service are pending. In lieu of flowers, contributions for funeral and medical expenses can be made to The First State Bank of Blessing, TX, for Rodney Wheaton in care of John Wheaton.
WARREN D. “BUD” MAYNARD
Graveside services for Warren D. “Bud” Maynard, 76, of Palacios, TX, were held May 26, 2013 at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Maynard was born July 9, 1936 in Nowata, Oklahoma to the late Chance and Edith Reed Maynard. He passed away May 21, 2013.
Bud was an avid sports fan, especially football. He was a very loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by daughters Kathy Maynard Huddleston & husband Mike of San Antonio and Kelly Maynard Schneider & husband Ronnie of Palacios; son Kenneth Dale Maynard & wife Barbara of Palacios; grandchildren Michael, Mark, & Matthew Huddleston, Ashlyn & Jake Schneider, and Trey Michael Maynard; great-grandchildren Cade Schneider & Luke Huddleston; and sister: Darlene Heckman.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; very loving wife of 44 years, Hilda Lee Gering Maynard; and son Louis Michael Maynard.

MAUNSELL CLARK ‘SONNY’ WAKEFIELD
Maunsell Clark, “Sonny” Wakefield, 92, passed away April 28, 2013. He was born to Maunsell Clark Wakefield, Sr. and Anna Mae Cook on July 4, 1920.
Clark grew up in Dallas, Texas, attended North Dallas HS and received a BS degree in chemical engineering from the University of Texas. He was active in the Navy and Navy Reserve, from 1942 until retirement in 1980, serving as Commander in Chief of several Seabee Construction battalions, and as Chief of Staff of the Seabee Reserves, achieving the rank of Captain. He received the Silver Star for his efforts, as a frogman, on the Underwater Demolition Team, Seven, during WW II.
He worked for Borden Co., in Chicago and New York, then owned his own cement pigment company, Ricketson Color Corp. in Milwaukee. He moved to Gulfport and Biloxi, Ms, in the early 70’s where he managed several businesses, as well as an apple production company in Arizona.
He was busy in the community serving as President of the local Red Cross, and President of the Gulf Coast Retired Officers Association. Clark also served on the Board of Directors of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce, the American Cancer Society, and on the Advisory Council for Keesler Air Force Base Officers Club.
Clark was an avid fisherman and golfer, having coordinated many golf tournaments for the Chamber, Cancer Society and Keesler Air Force Base.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maunsell Clark Wakefield Sr and Anna Mae Cook: and first and second wives, Edythe Marsh Wakefield Traylor, and Lynn Garon Wakefield.
A military memorial will be held at the Seabee Chapel in Biloxi, MS. in August. His ashes will be spread at his favorite fishing hole, the Chandeleur Islands, by his Navy and fishing buddies.

DORIS BUNGE HANSEN
A Memorial Service for Doris Bunge Hansen, 81, longtime resident of Tin Top, TX was held April 12, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios with Rev. Andy Blair and Rev. Janell Blair officiating.
Mrs. Hansen was born June 24, 1931 in Pierce, TX to the late Williiam Bunge and Klara Kubela Bunge. She passed away April 7, 2013.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios.
Survivors include daughter Patricia Ann Hansen of Tin Top; sons William “Bill” Carl Hansen and wife Audrey of Tin Top and Carl M. ”Mike” Hansen III of Tin Top; sister Marjorie Bunge Carter and husband Roger of El Campo; grandchildren Stephanie Hansen, Kristina Hansen, William “Will” Carl Hansen, Jr., Carl M. “Marty” Hansen IV and niece Klare Carter Glendinning and family of Plano, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Marius Hansen, Jr.

LOIS ASHWORTH DISMUKES
Funeral services for Lois Ashworth Dismukes, 94, were held April 10, 2013 at Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Webb officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing, TX.
Mrs. Dismukes was born June 6, 1918 in Burke, Texas to the late J. H. Ashworth and Mamie Sikes Ashworth. She passed away April 8, 2013.
She graduated from Lee High School in Baytown, Texas in 1936. Upon her graduation from Massey Business College in Houston she began work for Western Union and moved to Palacios, Texas in 1940 to work at Camp Hulen during World War II. In Palacios she met and married
her husband of 48 years, Jesse V. Dismukes, who preceded her in death in 1989. In 1955 she went to work as secretary to the Superintendent at Palacios ISD and retired after 30 years. She moved to Webster, Texas 4 years ago to be near her family.
She is survived by her son James Dismukes and wife Cecilia of Kemah, TX; grandchildren Shelle Schomberg and Scott Dismukes and great grandchildren Madison, Clay, Masyn, and Jack.

DENNIS WAYNE HARVEY
A Memorial Service for Dennis Wayne Harvey Sr., 59, of Palacios, TX was held April 6, 2013 at 808 Commerce St. in Palacios.
Mr. Harvey was born Oct. 28, 1953 in Bay City to Johnnie Arthur Harvey and the late Early Arlen Harvey. He passed away April 1, 2013.
He is survived by his mother; daughter, Penny Perez of Palacios; son, Dennis Wayne Harvey Jr. of Iowa Park; sisters, Laura Claborn of Converse, Rose Williams of Palacios, and Wendy Spiegel of Yoakum; brothers, Johnny Harvey of Palacios and Glen Harvey of Beaumont; and grandchildren, Alyssa Perez and Todd Perez, Jacob Spiegel and Alexis Spiegel.
He was preceded in death by his father; sister, Jackie Backus; and brothers, James Harvey and Leonard Harvey.

ROBERT SCOTT KING
Scott King, 67, of Tres Palacios Oaks passed away peacefully in his home March 24, 2013.
He was born September 11, 1945 in Jacksonville, TX to Robert Shell King and Joyce B. King
Scott loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He served in the United States Air Force, later to become a game warden for 14 years. Also working in the oil field business for numerous years, as a manager for K-3/BMI services until his death. Scott was a member of the American Legion Cecil Lee Post 649, and was also 32nd degree Mason.
He was receded in death by his father Robert Shell King. He is survived by his mother Joyce B. King, wife Patricia A. King, and brother Don B. King. His surviving children include Jason D. King, Angie King Morrow, and Justin C. King. Brittany Raybon and Cameron Morrow are his surviving grandchildren.
A memorial to be held locally at a later date.
