Funeral services for Margaret Ortiz, 42, of Blessing, Tx., were held May 20, 2008 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Sam Appiasi officiating. Interment was at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemtery.
Mrs. Ortiz was born Feb. 9, 1966 in Bay City, Tx. She died May 17, 2008.
She is survived by her husband Martin Ortiz, Jr.; daughter Maleri Ortiz; sons Martin Ortiz III and Marc Louis Ortiz; parents Sylvester and Cresencia Longoria; brothers Rene Longoria and Louis Longoria and his wife Doris; father and mother-in-law Martin, Sr. and Delfina Ortiz; brothers and sisters-in-law Hector and Rosa Puente, Benjamin and Amelia Gonzalez, Genaro and Martha Ortiz, Jose and Mona Ortiz, Irma Gonzalez, Chris and Anna Kocurek and Barnie and Nora Aparicio; 11 nephews and 17 nieces.
Her nephews Richard Longoria, Randy Longoria, Hector Puente, Jr., Martin Puente, Germain Puente and Jose Benjamin Gonzalez, Jr. served as pallbearers.

MARY M. BRUNE
Funeral services for Mary M. Brune, 89, of Palacios, Tx. were held May 21, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dowomoh officiating. Interment wsd at Hawley Cemeter near Blessing.
Mrs. Brune was born on Aug. 15, 1918 in Borden, Tx. to the late Frank and Elizabeth Porkorni Dolezal. She entered into her Heavenly Home on May 18, 2008.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, enjoyed gardening and was a devout Catholic. She raised and loved nine children, enjoyed 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She prayed for each and every child.
She is survived by sons and their wives Sonny and JoAnn Brune of Markham, Jack Brune of Blessing, Royce and Patti Brune of Wharton and Michael Brune of Palacios; daughters and their husbands Joyce and Trammel Hunter of Palacios, Sharon Dean of Palacios, Mary Ann and Ralph Brown of Palacios, and Deborah and Rick Williams of El Campo; and daughter-in-law Bobbi Brune of Palacios.
She was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Brune, grandson Kyle Weed, five brothers, and two sisters.

Mrs. Garrison is survived by her husband of 54-years, Alec Garrsion, of Palacios.
HELEN DESSIE ROESLER JASEK
Funeral services for Helen Dessie Roesler Jasek, 77, of Blessing, were held May 7, 2008 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Sam Appiasi officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery.
Mrs. Jasek was Dec. 9, 1930 in Fayette County, TX to the late Raymond Adolph and Vlasta Louise Bartosh Roesler. She passed away May 4, 2008.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and had been a resident of the Blessing area since 1954.
She is survived by daughters Deborah Jasek of College Station, Nancy Fitzsimon of San Antonio, Jennifer Jasek of Fruithurst, AL, Mary Jasek of College Station, Barbara Corporon of Collegport and Lisa Batchelder of Palacios; sons Leonard W. Jasek and Andy Jasek both of Blessing; grandchildren Leonard Konvicka, Bruce Konvicka, Mary Fitzsimon, Stephen Fitzsimon, Laura Fitzsimon, Amanda Corporon, Travis Corporon, Lori Batchelder and Brian Batchelder; and great-grandson Leonard Blake Konvicka.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Jasek in 2001 and son John Jasek.
Pallbearers were Leonard & Bruce Konvicka, Stephen Fitzsimon, Travis Corporon, Brian Batchelder, John Gully, Jase Ashcraft, John Palomares and Stephen Grigar.

SENOVIA ‘Senora’ LEONORE GARCIA
Funeral services for Senovia “Senora” Leonore Garcia, 54, of Pasadena, TX, were held May 4, 2008 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Don Kopecky officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Garcia was born Nov. 20, 1953 in Palacios, TX to Gilbert Suniga Yanes and Dominga Rodriguez Yanes. She passed away April 30, 2008.
She was a lifelong resident of Pasadena and a member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Pasadena.
She is survived by her daughters Renee Marie Garcia and son-in-law Jose Ruiz and Rebecca Lynn Esparza-Martinez and Christopher Martinez of Pasadena; sons Ernest Palacios Garcia, Jr. and Ricardo Esparza, Jr. of Pasadena; parents Gilbert and Dominga Yanes of Port Lavaca; sisters Judy Pena and husband Tony of Angleton, Connie Perez and husband Merced of San Antonio, Norma Yanes of San Antonio and Karen Williams and husband Keith of Bulverde; brothers Gilbert R. Yanes, Jr. and wife Sylvia of Palacios and Christopher Yanes of Laredo; and grandchildren Briana, Nathaniel, Anthony, Sierra and Trinton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Palacios Garcia, Sr.

FRANK SANDERS
A memorial service for Robert Franklin “Frank” Sanders, 84, of Palacios, Tx., was held April 26, 2008 at Agape Family Outreach Church, 1811 Newsom Blvd., with Pastor Eric Young officiating.
A gentle, loving man, Frank fought a very long and valiant battle against cancer and went home to be with the Lord on April 1, 2008.
He was born March 8, 1924 in Bayou La Batre, Alabama to Robert Allen and Daisy Scott Sanders. He was the second of six children.
He moved to Palacios with his family when he was a young boy. After serving in the Coast Guard (1942-46), he lived in various places along the Texas coast and worked as a commercial fisherman. He met and married
Floella Hardin in 1958 in Aransas Pass, Tx. They moved back to Palacios in 1959 where he resided until he left this world to join her in Heaven.
He is survived by his daughter Sharon Daricek and husband James Samford; grandsons Carl and wife Tammy Graham, Jason and wife Cherise Graham, Joshua and wife Jennifer Graham, Gregg Samford and Bobby Samford; great-grandchildren Dillon, Luke, Noah, Devon and Logan Graham, Marissa Shultz and Blaze Samford; special children Amber, Devon and Kaitlin Crowder; sister Jessie Hairston; brother Ronald Sanders; and nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49-1/2 years Floella Sanders; granddaughter Rhiannon Graham; sisters Thelma Flock and Ruby Penland; and brother Tom Sanders.
Special honorary pallbearers were Arnold Davailer, Douglas Callais, Sonny Adams, George Samford and Leo Hardin.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the family for hospital bills would be greatly appreciated.
WILLIAM WASHINGTON (BILLY) HOLT
Funeral services for long-time Palacios, Tx. resident William Washington “Billy” Holt, 85, were held April 22, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. James Collins officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing.
Mr. Holt was born Jan. 26, 1923 in San Augustine County, Tx., the third of five children of Mallie Tillery Holt and John Calvin Holt. He died April 19, 2008 in Pasadena, Tx.
He grew up on a farm 6 miles west of San Augustine. After graduation from high school he engaged in farming and ranching with his father. During WWII he served with the U.S. Merchant Marines in the Pacific Theater. In 1948 he opened a cattle auction in Palacios and later in Bay City and Smithville. In 1973 he entered the automobile sales industry and continued in that line of work until his retirement. In 1951 he married
Jackie Huddleston of Palacios who survives him.
He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Chipper and Barbara Holt of Deer Park, Tx; daughter and son-in-law Patti and Mark Bertsch of Bay City; grandchildren Billy Joe Holt of San Antonio, Leigh Taylor Holt of Houston, and Laura and Amy Bertsch of Bay City; brother Alton Holt and wife of Chireno, Tx.; sister Joy Miller of Center, Tx.; and a number of nieces, nephews and many long-time friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Pallbearers were Billy Joe Holt, Bill Kennemer, Brooks Kennemer, Buddy Kennemer, David Holt, Don Cohenour, Billy Paddie and Danny Windham.
The family would like to thank the staff of Palacios Community Medical Center, Matagorda General Hospital of Bay City and Kindred Hospital of Pasadena for all of their tireless efforts in treating their loved one.

RONALD KEITH PENLAND
Memorial services for Ronald Keith Penland, 47, of Palacios, Tx. were held April 26, 2008 at Agape Family Outreach Church with John Sanders officiating.
Mr. Penland was born July 3, 1961, in El Campo, Tx. to the late Paul M. Penland and Ruby S. Penland. He died April 21, 2008.
Keith is survived by his two daughters, Kelli Drivers, of Rockdale, Tx. and Paula Penland, of Maryville, TN; grandchildren Preston Penland, Kaliyah Askew, Justin, Amanda, and Colton Driver; sister Sharon Penland, of Palacios; nieces Tiffany Mooney and Kimberley Ficarra; and nephews Aaron Rodriguez, Michael Penland, and Chris and Josh Clifton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Penland, Jr.; and sister Denise Dawn Clifton.
