JACINTO GARZA, JR.
Funeral services for Jacinto Garza, Jr., 76, of Freeport, Tx., were held April 22, 2008 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment was at the Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Garza was born Aug. 10, 1931 in Louise, Tx. to Josefa Jasso Garza and Jacinto Garza, Sr. He died April 17, 2008.
He was a resident of Freeport for the past 40 years, a former member of the National Guard, a former long time resident of Palacios and a member of 1st Missionary Baptist Church of Freeport.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah Castillo of Bay City; son David Rene Garza, Sr. of Houston; sisters Mary Guajardo of Texas City and Lillie Perez of El Campo; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Ruben and Kenneth Vaness; sister Feliciana Llanes; and brother Raynaldo J. Garza.
Pallbearers were Rudy M. Castillo, David R. Garza, Jr., Damien G. Garza, Darren W. Garza, David R. Garza, Sr. and Manuel DeLaGarza.

JASON EARL CORNETT
Graveside services for Jason Earl Cornett, 32, of Cuero were held April 19, 2008 at Palacios cemetery with Rev. June White officiating.
Mr. Cornett was born Feb. 1, 1976 in El Campo, Tx. to Douglas Reno Cornett and Rosemary Perkins Cornett. He died April 16, 2008.
He is survived by his wife Erin Grigsby Cornett of Cuero; mother Rosemary Cornett of Palacios; father and step-mother Douglas and Kathy Cornett of Palacios; paternal grandmother Dorothy Cornett of Blessing; daughters Shana Cornett of Palacios, Jennifer, Sarah and Madison Cornett all of Cuero; son Cody Cornett of Cuero; brothers Reno Cornett and wife Michelle, James Cornett and wife Heather and Joey Cornett all of Palacios; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were James Cornett, Joey Cornett, Reno Cornett, Gerald Dyer, Russell McIntosh, Joe Mendoza, and Todd Perkins.

ANTONIO E. DeLEON, JR.
Funeral services for Antonio E. DeLeon, Jr., 83, of La Porte, Tx., were held April 17, 2008 at Paul U. Lee LaPorte Funeral Home in LaPorte. Internment was at LaPorte cemetery.
Mr. DeLeon was born Jan. 28, 1925 in Yorktown, TX to Herlinda and Antonio DeLeon, Sr. He died April 14, 2008 in Pasadena, Tx.
He is survived by daughters Zenaida Gatica and Mike, Emma Chavez, Herlinda Diaz and Randy; sons Antonio DeLeon III, Alberto DeLeon and Matilda; sisters Maria Montalvo and Herlinda Salinas; brothers Raul DeLeon, Frank DeLeon, Eugenio DeLeon, Sigifredo DeLeon and Raul DeLeon Jr.; 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 9 great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ofelia Estrada.
EILEEN JUNEK SCHILLING
A funeral Mass for Eileen Junek Shilling, 61, of Houston, was held April 10, 2008 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Blessing, TX with Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating.
In November of 2005 Eileen began her brave and fearless battle with cancer. It was not long before her family and friends realized her angel wings had begun to grow and she was destined to become one of God’s angels. On Sunday, April 6, 2008 her angel wings were fully-grown and our good Lord above called her home.
Eileen was born on July 20, 1946 in Bay City, TX to the late Edwin and Willie Junek of El Maton, TX.
She is survived by her husband Dan Schilling; stepson Jason Schilling, and her two loving puppies Princess and Badger.
Eileen was from a large close-knit family of four sisters, three brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. Siblings are: Wilma McDonald (Bryan) of Bay City, Gloria Bales (Robert) of Hunt, Cynthia Dujka (Scott) of Bay City, Gail Perkins (Ted) of Palacios, Edwin Junek, Jr. (Robin) of Pasadena, George Junek and Charlie Junek of El Maton. Nieces and nephews are Coy McDonald (Donna), Keith McDonald (Lori), Kym Chambliss (Cory), Robin Peters, Aaron Bales (Becky), Nicholas Bales, Kristi Dujka (Gene), Mandi Dujka (Sean), Danny Dujka (Becca), Todd, Blake and Nathan Perkins, Adam Adams, Justin Marshal and Tanner Junek; great nieces and nephews Sarah, Bryanna, Madison, and Makenzi McDonald, Mallory, Camille and Cassidy Chambliss, Michael and James McDonald, Sarah and Leah Peters, Aiden Bales, Braylen Tieken, and Saige Byars. Close friends are Dick and Becky Humalainen, Tony and Angie Perez, and Mildred Hunt.
Her nephews served as pallbearers. The Tidehaven High School Class of 1964 were honorary pallbearers.

ANNIE LAURA BARNETT
Funeral services for Annie Laura Barnett, 77, of Palacios, Tx., were held April 5, 2008 at Trinity Baptist Church in Palacios. Graveside services were at Luling cemetery in Luling. Tx. Rev. Louis Rush will officiating.
Mrs. Barnett was born April 6, 1930 in Luling, TX to the late George David Nelson and Mary Schuchardt Nelson. She died April 2, 2008 in Victoria, Tx.
She was a resident of the Palacios area since 1950 and a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Palacios.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Phyllis and Don Gilbert of Richmond, TX and Rita and Dave Di Sabatino of Wilmington, DE; sons and daughters-in-law David Wayne and Pat Barnett of El Campo, TX, Glen Lee and Debbie Barnett of Palacios, TX, and Kent Allen and Alta Barnett of Palacios, TX; brothers Johnnie Nelson of Rockport, TX and George Nelson of Luling, TX; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Wayne Barnett; by her parents; and by her brothers Loyd Nelson and Harold E. “Booger” Nelson.
Pallbearers were Josh Allgood, Searcy Barnett, Wylen Barnett, Jose Amstutz, Brent Schulz and Paul Hunt. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Barnett, Herbert Schneider and John Ressler.

JOE MAZOCH
Funeral services for Joe Mazoch, 84, of Yorktown, Tx. were held April 4, 2008 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel in Cuero with Rev. Terry Brown officiating. Interment was at Hillside cemetery.
Mr. Mazoch was born in New Taiton, Tx. on March 8, 1924, to John and Mary Kocurek Mazoch. He died April 2, 2008.
He had been an operator for Trans Continental Commercial Gas Pipeline for 30 years. He also worked as a commercial shrimper out of Palacios, and an auto mechanic. Joe enjoyed ranching, dancing, and visiting with people. He was a member of KJT. Joe and Mabel Bade were married
in Beeville on July 7, 1990.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mabel Bade Mazoch of Yorktown; daughters Joyce Schurchert and husband Alvin of Kingwood, Carlette Hileman of Port Lavaca, and Belinda Bowers of Austin; son Mark Mazoch and wife Barbara of Ganado; grandchildren John and Linsey Schurchert, Ashley Schurchert, Carla, Randal, and Casey Hileman, and Dillon Bowers; sisters Beatrice Yockey of El Campo, Edith Rachunek of Wharton; and brother Alfonse Mazoch of El Campo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Martha Marek Mazoch, sister Martha Marek, and brother I.J. Mazoch.
Pallbearers were Randal Hileman, John Schurchert, Gary Bowers, Dillon Bowers, Bennie Marek and Mickey Beard. Honorary pallbearers were Thomas Johnson, Chris and Edita Rybak, Dr. Andrew Clements, Dr. Gulshan Minocha and Dr. Gordon Barth.

JAMES RODNEY REEVES
Graveside services for James Rodney Reeves, 58, of Victoria, were held April 4, 2008 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Mr. Reeves was born Jan. 4, 1950 in Bay City, TX to Faye Rayburn Reeves and the late Marcus Gilbert Reeves. He passed away March 31, 2008.
He is survived by his mother Faye Reeves Sewell of Sweeny; wife Carla Reeves of Victoria; daughter Jennifer Brannon of Lubbock; son James Gilbert Reeves of Lubbock; stepsons Joseph Anderson of Bloomington, TX and James Anderson of Mertzon, TX; grandchildren James Marcus Reeves, Jacob Reeves, Sierra Reeves, Joshua Reeves and Anna Beth Brannon; and step-grandchildren Kaelin Ruth, Cody Anderson, Cecellia Smith, Jocelyn Anderson, Johnny Anderson and Jordan Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother Marcus Reeves.

CONCEPCION ORONA CASTAÑON
A funeral Mass for Concepcion Orona Castañon, 75, of Palacios, TX, were March 30, 2007 at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Palacios with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at the Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Castañon was born Dec. 8, 1932 in Jimulco, Coahuila, Mexico to the late Vincente Orona and Candelaria Retiz. She died March 27, 2008.
Concepcion was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Palacios for 50 years. She was also a member of the St. Anthony’s Spanish choir and a member of the Guadalupanas for a number of years.
Concepcion enjoyed life to the fullest. She was at her happiest when surrounded by her children and their extended families. Until the very end she insisted that her family not worry about her and only have thoughts of others comfort.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Isidro Castañon Perez of Palacios; sons Arthur, David, Jesse, and Frank of Houston and Isidro of Palacios; daughters Esperanza Martin, Concepcion Ramirez, and Mary Ellen Rodriguez of Houston; 28 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Salvador and Samuel Orona of Torreon, Mexico; and sister Vicenta Orona Fuentes from Mexico City, Mexico.
She was preceded in death by three infant children: Isidro, Fernando and Elizabeth; and by her brothers Esteban, Alejandro, and Silverio Orona.
