SANDRA PAULENA HICKMAN BURT
Funeral services for Sandra Paulena Hickman Burt were held March 3, 2008 at Nichols Street Church of Christ in Bay City. A private interment will be held at a later date.
As her family members sang her favorite hymns at her bedside, Sandra passed from this world to her eternal life with Jesus on Feb. 28, 2008.
Born in Chicago, IL to Carl and Doris Hickman, Sandra began her life on Sept. 13, 1945, at a mere three pounds but quickly made her presence known to all who loved her. Her parents, brother, and sisters shared a household that cultivated a love of music and laughter in Sandra, which she in turn shared with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her easy smile and infectious laughter are of fond memory to all who loved her. Her presence as the “spark plug” of family gatherings will be sorely missed.
On May 8, 1965, Sandra married
Carl “Bud” Burt and adapted well to Navy life. Her weekly letters to Bud as he served his country overseas were met with a return letter, which were always addressed to his “Lovely Lady.” As a mother to Lisa and Kathy, Sandy always taught a complete reliance on the power of Lord with the oft-repeated, “The name on the door of your church matters not. It is the name upon your heart and that name better be JESUS.” Sandy’s grandchildren, Mitchell, Dylan, Lucas, Lindsay, Donny, Isaak, Isaiah, loved her with a vengeance as she did them.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Carl “Bud” Burt; daughters and sons-in-law Lisa and Nick Carrillo of Midfield, TX and Katherine and Ray Carrillo of Bay City, TX; six grandsons, Mitchell, Dylan, Lucas, Donny, Isaak, and Isaiah; one granddaughter, Lindsay; sisters Shirley Potempa of Chicago, IL and Carol Schneider of Asheville, NC; and a brother, Ron Hickman of Midlothian, VA. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who dearly loved their “Aunt Sandy.”
Her parents preceded her in death.
