She and her husband Hoyt were “doodlebuggers, ” meaning that they worked for Texaco seismograph for 34 years, moving over 60 times where Lois had the burden of cleaning and caring for two little girls in that many rented houses. After the death of Hoyt she moved to Luling, Tx. to be near her grand-daughter, Kimberley Cross Johnson, where she lived for five years until moving to Alpine.
She was a strong Christian woman who tried to be a “good and faithful servant” to her Lord. She taught Sunday School for many years in various towns in which they lived. She was a true prayer warrior. If you asked her to pray for you, you could count on her doing it faithfully. She sang in church choirs for many years, and loved the old-time gospel songs taught her by her father at night on the gallery (front porch). She also taught English to Spanish speaking adults.
Lois has been under the caring auspices of Alpine Valley Care Center in Alpine where she enjoyed reading the newspapers, watching Christian television, and Fox news. She would debate politics with you and was a staunch Republican saying that her Daddy had been a Democrat and they never had followed through on their promises. Looking her best was important to her, and she refused to go to the dining room without her hair fixed and wearing lipstick.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Livezey of Abilene, Tx. and Reba Cross Seals and husband David Seals of Alpine, Tx.; grandchildren Justin Cross and wife Lori, Stuart Cross and wife Linda of Alpine, Kimberley and husband Max Johnson of Luling, Amanda Livezey of Abilene, and John Hoyt Livezey of San Angelo; and seven great-grandchildren.
