NIEVES P. PEREZ

Funeral services for Nieves P. Perez, 84, of Palacios, TX were held March 21, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.

Mrs. Perez was born August 5, 1928 in Port Lavaca, TX to the late Placido Perez and Conception Farias Perez. She passed away March 18, 2013.

Survivors include her life partner Jose Perrusia of Palacios; daughters Teresa Gonzales (Herby), Estella Lucio (Gilbert) all of Palacios; step-daughter Olga Perez of Alvin; son: Larry Pena (Vicky) of Palacios; sisters Celia Rendon, Mary Mendez, Mary Lou Valesquez all of Port Lavaca, Alice Harvey (Raymond) of Palacios, and Helen Valesquez of Victoria; brother Johnny “Fidel” Perez of Port Lavaca; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Manuel Garcia Perez, daughter Virginia Pardo, step-daughter Pauline Carvajal, sisters Pauline Rodriguez, Lupe Rodriguez and Susie Martinez, and brother Alex Perez.

Pallbearers were David Gonzales, Steve Gonzales, Mark Gonzales, Lawrence Pena, Eric Pardo and Anthony Pardo.

STANLEY WRIGHT

Funeral services for Stanley Wright, 79, of Palacios, TX, were held Feb. 16, 2013 at Palacios Funeral Home. Interment was at Hawley cemetery with Masonic rites.

Mr. Wright was born May 28, 1933 in Palacios, TX to the late Robert Millard Wright and Lilita Clementine Clopton Wright. He passed away Feb. 10, 2013.

He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and worked for Alcoa for many years.

Survivors include his wife Martha Dewett Wright of Palacios; daughter Crystal Letitia Foster (Luke) of Austin; son Stanley Dewitt Wright of Palacios; and grandchildren Bradley Dale Wright, Stanley J. Wright and Christopher Wade Wright.

Pallbearers will be Luke Foster, Bradley Dale Wright, Stanley J. Wright, Christopher Wade Wright, Steve Rabb and Andy Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Harvey, Kevin Harvey, Wayne White, Johnny Penland, Chincho Garcia and Tim Wright.

Arrangements are with Palacios Funeral Home, 361-972-2012.

LOIS ROY

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Lois Roy, 61, of Palacios, on Feb. 2, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Palacios, TX.

Lois, a beautiful, spiritual and intelligent daughter was born Dec. 22, 1951 to the late Maggie Stovall McGrew and the late Eugene Clyde Stovall in Edna, TX. and she passed away on Jan. 29, 2013.

Lois attended public schools in Edna and worked for faithfully for the Palacios Independent School District until her health failed. She lived a life full of devotion to her family and friends. She walked with a lot of pride always touching the spirit of the people that she came in contact with. She served as a faithful Missionary for the Lord and Usher at New Pilgrim Rose Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Leroy Monroe. Lois’s love for God encouraged her to march on. She marched as long as she could until God called her home to glory.

Her example of family was exhibited when she wedded Thurman Lee Roy in 1971. Their marriage of forty-one years embodied the ups and downs of unbreakable love. Thurman stayed right by her side through the suffering she endured in her final stages of her sickness. In union they raised three girls, Sheronda Roy-Williams of Bay City, TX. Valisha Roy-Ashton (Rodney) of Sugarland, TX and the youngest Tezna Roy of Kingsville, TX.

Lois leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, daughters and their families, sisters Lynda (Wendel) Washington of Fresno, TX, Mary (Maurice) Washington of San Antonio, TX, Joyce Robinson of Edna, TX, Nellie Parks-Brazille of Houston, TX;Brothers, Lester McGrew of San Antonio, TX; step brothers Clarence Ray and Alvin McGrew of Victoria, TX. Sister-in-laws, Myrtle Hudgins, Ethel Clay, Gladys Jackson and Stella Byrd of Palacios, TX, and Helen Pinkston, El Campo, TX.; Brother-in-laws Wayne and Carl Lee Roy of Palacios, TX.; six grandchildren, Tierra, Thurman, Rodney Jr. Ryan, Cydney and Trevelli; one great grandchild, Carly.

BERT C. WEST

Funeral services for Bert C. West, 86, of Palacios, TX were held Jan. 31, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios. with Rev. Janell Blair officiating. Final resting place will be in Daingerfield, TX.

Mr. West was born on Oct. 28, 1926 in Rush County, Indiana to Laurence Russell and Muriel C. Wilson West. His mother died shortly after he was born and he was adopted by his uncle Bertrand Clarence West, Sr. and Alice (Gruell) West. He passed away Jan. 24, 2013 at his home in Palacios.

A career newspaper man, West had previously lived in Palacios in 1982-83 when he worked with his son, Nick, who was publisher of the Palacios Beacon. He served as Chamber of Commerce president in 1983 and led in establishing the annual CofC Fishing Tournament. He returned to Palacios in 1999 and again went to work at the Beacon. He lead the effort to establish Palacios as a Home Rule Charter city. He was elected to three terms (6-years) on the Palacios City Council from 2005-2011 and served as a Director of the CofC. He spearheaded for the Palacios Centennial Celebration 2009. He was serving as a director of the Palacios Economic Development Corporation at the time of his passing.

During his six decade newspaper career, he worked for nearly 30 papers in four states, almost all in Texas beginning in the mid 1950’s. Among them were papers in Port Lavaca, El Campo, Bay City, Edna, and Yoakum. They also ranged from Daingerfield in North East Texas to Dumas in the Panhandle and to San Benito in the Rio Grande Valley. Among his career highlights was covering the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969 for the Houston Chronicle.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64-years, Betty Lou (Brown) West, in Oct. 2012; and by a daughter, Tina Louise West.

He is survived by daughters Leidon (John) Eames of Daingerfield; Dodi (George) Edinger of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; Debbie (Tim) Reyna of Daingerfield; Karen (Mickey) Robey of Cushing, TX; and sons Nick (Mary) West of Palacios, TX, Pat West of Mt. Pleasant, TX and Larry West (Missy) of Yoakum, TX.; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Palacios Area Fund, 454-B Main St., Palacios, Texas 77465.

LEE CAMERON COOK

Graveside services for Lee Cameron Cook, 88, of Palacios, TX were held Jan. 22, 2013 at Midfield cemetery with Pastor Louis Rush officiating.

Mr. Cook was born Dec. 9, 1925. He passed away Jan. 17, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Shirlie Readmond Cook.

He is survived by daughters Frances and husband Ronald Callahan, Linda and husband David Lincoln, Beth and husband Michael Blevins, all of Palacios, Merri and husband Steven Rennie of Belleville, MI and Robin King of Houston. He was the beloved grandfather of 15, great-grandfather of many, and great-great-grandfather of several.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Trinity Baptist Church for a Bible Fund.

ROBERT TAYLOR

Robert Taylor, 71, of Cape Carancahua, TX laid down his working tools and went to be with his heavenly Father on January 16, 2013. Funeral services were held January 21, 2013 at Palacios Funeral Home. Masonic and military graveside services followed at the Palacios cemetery.

Robert was born on January 8, 1942 in Houston, Texas to the late Robert Lee and Iva Marie Hatcher Taylor.

Robert was an avid fisherman, spending much time in his backyard fishing off of his pier. He loved to remodel his homes with his loving boss by his side, his wife Sheila. He was a beloved member of the Blessing Masonic Lodge #411. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. Robert never met a stranger. He was a good family man, loving his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Sheila J. Taylor; children, Ruby E. Alexander, Robert Daniel Taylor ll, Dana Suzanne Gerica, Jennifer Earnhardt, Rebecca Lyon, James W. Earnhardt; 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, sister, Martha Ladd and husband James M. Ladd and numerous other loving relatives.

EUGENE E. STEINMEYER

A memorial service for Eugene E. Steinmeyer, 78, was held Dec. 29, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas.

Gene was born Nov. 17, 1934 in Bay City to Bill and Verlie Steinmeyer. He died of cancer Dec. 7, 2012, in Gainesville, Georgia, after a 19-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

After graduating from Bay City High School, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He then attended Sam Houston State University, earning a Bachelor’s, a Master’s, and both principal and superintendent certifications. Before his retirement, he worked in the Bay City ISD and the La Porte ISD as a teacher, coach, and principal.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice; son Drew Steinmeyer and wife Colleen; daughter Gina Nelson and husband Freddie; grandchildren Christel Ostrom, Corey Tuggle and wife Stephanie, Jonathan Volponi, Cade O’Brien, and Freddie Nelson Jr.; and great-grandchildren Seth Ostrom and Logan Tuggle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Audrey LaBeff, James Steinmeyer, and Ann Hale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Alzheimer’s Association (225 N. Michigan Ave. Flr 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or @ alz.org), your local animal shelter, your church or your favorite charity.

ROBERT LEE KESZLER

Robert Lee Keszler, 72, of Georgetown, TX passed away peacefully on Dec. 15, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. A Memorial Service was held Dec. 18, at Crestview Baptist Church, in Georgetown. Pastor Dan Wooldridge will be officiating.

Robert was born to Edward and Millie Mae Keszler on Dec. 26, 1939, in Damon, TX. He was a lucky man that found true love at a young age. Robert exchanged wedding vows with Anita Joy Corporon on June 27, 1958, at Collegeport Presbyterian Church, in Collegeport, TX. He attended Barber College in Houston and Wharton County Junior College. Robert was a master of his craft and dedicated 30 years to the Alcoa Aluminum Company, as a Maintenance Control Supervisor, in Point Comfort, TX. After moving to Georgetown, he came out of retirement and served as the Administrative Business Clerk for Williamson County Juvenile Services.

Robert was a hard working man and a man of strong faith. He most recently was a member of Crestview Baptist Church, in Georgetown, where he sang in the choir and served as a Deacon. While he attended First Baptist Church.

ROSALIE MARTINO TOBIAS

Funeral services for Rosalie Martino Tobias, 85, of Palacios, Tx., will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Palacios with Father Bryan Heyer officiating. Interment will be at Palacios cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. at the church with Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Tobias was born June 13, 1927 in Palacios to the late Dominga Ottino Martino and Luis Martino, Sr. She passed away July 17, 2012.

She retired from Palacios Pharmacy where she was a store clerk for over 41 years. She was a member of the Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Bassett of Palacios; son Manuel Thomas Tobias of Cypress, Tx.; sister Julia Garcia of Victoria, Tx.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Jesse Tobias; son Julio Martin Tobias; sister Pauline Pequenio; and brothers Victor Martino, John Martino Jr., Louis Martino, Charlie Martino Sr. and Tom Martino.

Pallbearers are Johnathan Tobias, Kenneth Moore Jr., Nick Hendren, Anthony Martino, Pat Garcia and Steve Garcia. Honorary pallbearers were John Bassett, Pablo Rocha, Lance Sparks Jr., Benjamin Rocha, Jesse Tobias, Nicky Hendren Jr., Lance Sparks III, and Estavan Murillo III.

Arrangements were with Artero Memorial Chapels, Port Lavaca.
