JAMES PAUL WYATT, JR.
Funeral services for James Paul Wyatt, Jr., 60 of Palacios, were held July 7, 2007 in the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Don Kopecky officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 2467.
Mr. Wyatt was born March 31, 1947 in El Campo, TX to James Paul Wyatt, Sr. and Daisy Hortense Langston Wyatt. He died July 2, 2007 in Houston, Tx.
He was a lifelong resident of Palacios. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam era and a Life Member of VFW Post 2467 in Palacios. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife Paula Wyatt of Palacios; sons John Wyatt of Collegeport, James Wyatt and wife Christina of Clute, and Devin Wyatt of Palacios; and four grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hortense and James P. Wyatt, Sr.

JEROME L. KOVAR
Funeral services for Jerome L. Kovar, 94, of Palacios, were held July 6, 2007 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Rev. Charles Dowomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Kovar was born Aug. 4, 1912 in Wallis, Texas to the late Frank and Francis Kovar. He died July 3, 2007.
After moving to the Hillje and Louise area, he enjoyed playing clarinet and saxophone. He and his brothers played in local bands with venues from Fairchild to Corpus Christi. He moved to the Carancahua Community in 1950 as foreman of the Appling Farm & Ranch for 26 years. He continued his love for music as a member of St. Anthony’s Church Choir. After his retirement he moved to Palacios and spent many years fishing, hunting and gardening.
He is survived by Vlasta, his wife of 65 years; daughters and their spouses Geraldine “Gerry” and Bill Stuhrenberg, and Joan and Marvin Stuhrenberg, all of Palacios; sisters Olga Popp of Louise, Tx. and Annie Taylor of Kemp, Tx.; and brother Sylvester “Cap” Kovar of Louise. He also survived by his grandchildren Stephen and wife Michele Stuhrenberg of Palacios, Stacey and husband Rick Cegielski of Houston, Jamie Stuhrenberg of Palacios and Julie and Jennie Stuhrenberg of College Station, Tx.; and great grandchildren Jarred, Paige and Clayton Stuhrenberg of Palacios and Sean and Ryan Cegielski of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his sister Lydia Polasek, brothers Fred and John Kovar and great-grandson Matthew Cegielski.
Pallbearers were Stephen, Jarred and Jamie Stuhrenberg, Rick Cegielski, Clarnece Kovar and Craig Wallis. Honorary pallbearer was John Rother.

LYDIA EDITH RAGUSIN
Funeral services for Lydia Edith Ragusin, 79, of Palacios, TX, were held July 6, 2007 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Swift officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Ragusin was born Dec. 30, 1927 in San Francisco, CA to Chester Samms and Edith Annabelle Woods Samms. She died July 2, 2007.
She was a member of the Nazarene Church, was a resident of Palacios since 1955 and attended the Solid Rock Fellowship Church.
She is survived by her daughters Muriel Morrison Hall and husband John of Port Lavaca, Katherine Ann Ragusin and Mary Christine Ragusin Jurasek, both of Palacios; her sons: Steven Morrison and wife Diana of Pasadena, TX, Allen Stewart Morrison, Sr. and wife Lisa Gail of Palacios, and Martin William Ragusin of Blessing; 17 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Anthony Ragusin and by her parents Chester and Edith Samms.
Pallbearers were Arie Morrison, John Hall, Wesley Hall, Jimmy Hall, Allen Morrison, Jr., Russell Morrison, Carroll Cairnes, Mark Garcia and Johnny Ragusin. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Paul Bunnell, MD, Salavino Correa, Toby Anderson and Mark Robinson, Sr.

ALVENA KOPECKY LASLIE
Funeral services for Alvena Kopecky Laslie, 100, were held June 28, 2007 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Johnny Green and Rev. David Gruhn officiating. Burial was at the Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Laslie was born November 20, 1906 in Crosby, Tx. to Martin Kopecky and Mary Hulchan Kopecky. She passed away June 25, 2007.
Living in the Prairie Center Community most of her life, Alvena was know to many in Matagorda County as a hard working, generous friend and Christian woman who always had a positive attitude. She reared a large family, farmed rice, raised and worked cattle and loved her church.
She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Bay City and for many years provided transportation to and from church for many. Another love of hers was working as a Pink Lady at Matagorda General Hospital and Wagner General Hospital. For the past eight years, Alvena resided at the Care Inn of Ganado where she will surely be missed.
Survivors include her children Vivian Turner, Willie Mae Gunter Simpson, Lonnie B. Laslie, Mary Ann Griffith, Raymond Laslie, Lucille Dendy and Charles Laslie; grandchildren Shirley Gunter Kelly, Joyce Gunter Bannerot, Richard Evans, Elaine Evans Meadows, Sylvia Laslie, Lonnie “Buddy” Laslie, Jr., Larry Laslie, Darrell Griffith, Louis Griffith, Willie Griffith, Dina Laslie Hall, Judy Laslie Arnold, Johnnie Laslie, Randy Partee, Keven Partee, Rhonda Partee Williams, Frances Dendy Mahaffey, Wesley Laslie, Barbara Laslie and Justin Laslie; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother Alvin Kopecky; husband Willie Hardin “Bill” Laslie, and granddaughter Phyllis Griffith Knebel.

WILLIE ORSAK JUNEK
Funeral services for Willie Orsak Junek, 87, of Palacios, were held June 28, 2007 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Charles Domowoh officiating.
Mrs. Junek was born October 21, 1919 in Louise, Tx. to the late Frank William and Frances Prilucik Orsak. She died June 24, 2007.
She was affectionately known as “The Fishing Lady” in Palacios and was an avid gardener and wine maker. She was a former member of the Altar Society at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing and currently a member of the Catholic Daughters at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios.
She is survived five daughters and their spouses Wilma and Bryan McDonald of Bay City, Eileen and Dan Schilling of Houston, Gloria and Robert Bales of Hunt, Tx., Cynthia Junek Dujka of Bay City, and Gail and Ted Perkins of Palacios; three sons and their spouses Edwin Junek, Jr. and Robin Ruben of Pasadena, George Junek of El Maton and Charlie and Stacey Junek of El Maton; sister Edna Mae Lynn Wright of Nevada; brother Siddie Orsak of Boling; grandchildren Coy and Keith McDonald, Kym McDonald Chambliss and husband Cory, Robin Peters, Aaron and Nicholas Bales, Kristi, Mandi and Danny Dujka, Todd, Blake and Nathan Perkins, Adam Adams, Justin, Marshall and Tanner Junek and Courtney and Candice Scoggins; great-grandchildren Sarah, Bryanna, Madison and Makenzie McDonald, Mallory, Camille and Cassidy Chambliss, Michael and James McDonald, Sarah and Leah Peters and Aiden Bales.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Daniel Junek, sister Mildred Hahn and brother Archie Orsak.

ADELINE SVATEK
Funeral services for Adeline Svatek, 70, were held June 21, 2007 at St.Phillip The Apsotle Catholic Church in El Campo, Tx.
Mrs. Svatek was born in Fayette County, Tx. to the late Frank and Henrietta Zatopek. She died Tuesday June 19, 2007.
She is survived by sons Kenneth Svatek and wife Bej of Palacios, Tx., Jimmy Svatek and wife Tina of Louise, and son -in-law Daniel Reck of El Campo; daughters and sons-in-law Wanda and Allen Krpec of New Taiton, Tx., Darlene and George Brown of El Campo, and Ramona and Olan Ohl of Rosenberg, Tx.; 16 grandchildren including Stacy Svatek of Victoria, and Samantha Starrett and husband Brandon of Corpus Christi, and Synthia Svatek of Palacios and 2 great-granddaughters Bailey Powers of El Campo and Annabelle Starrett of Corpus Christi as well as two unborn grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jimmy Svatek, daughter Denise Reck and brothers Alfred and Bernard.
JAMES MILLER PRICE
Funeral services for James Miller Price, 17 of Bay City, were held June 22, 2007 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing, TX with Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment was at St. Peter’s Catholic cemetery in Blessing.
James was born July 6, 1989 in Brenham, TX to Robert Charnic Price and Beverly Kay Thompson Price. He passed away June 19, 2007.
He was a resident of Matagorda County for the past five years and enjoyed camping and fishing. James was a 2007 graduate of Tidehaven High School in El Maton and had enlisted in the US Navy and was scheduled to report for duty in July.
He is survived by his parents Robert and Beverly Krenek of Bay City; his sisters Sherrie Dodson, LeAnn Geoner, Shelly Delgado, Dawn Petru her husband Jeremy, Robin Price and Krystal Powell; and his brothers Shane Krenek, Robert Krenek, Jr. and Roy Krenek.
He was preceded in death by his father: Robert C. Price.
Pallbearers were Joseph Frick, Jeremy Petru, Anthony Distasi, Ronnie Andrews, Dustin Nemec, Ryan Warn, Kirk Klicker and Darren Hickle. Honorary pallbearers were Kendahl Warn, Sarah Painter and Steven Litzau.
