AMANDA ‘MANDY’ KATHERINE BENNER
Funeral services Mandy Benner, 22, of Palacios, were held June 21, 2007 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Benner officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery near Blessing.
Mandy was born Aug. 21, 1984 in Bay City to Ronald Allen Benner and Gloria Katherine Brown Benner of Palacios. She passed away June 18, 2007 in Victoria, TX.
She was a 2001 graduate of Palacios High School and was employed as a Radiology Technician with the DeTar Hospital North in Victoria.
She is survived by her son, Sloan Matthew Gaines; her parents Ronnie and Gloria Benner of Palacios; her brother and sister-in-law Matthew E. and Heather Benner of Port Lavaca; her grandmother Arlene Benner of Port Lavaca; and her nieces Gillion and Madison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

CLINTON ARVID LOFF
Funeral services for Clinton Arvid Loff, 58, of Carancahua Community were held June 18, 2007 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios.
Mr. Loff was born April 2, 1949 in Carancahua to Arvid L. and Louise Hurta Loff. He died June 14, 2007.
Clint was born and raised in Carancahua. His dad, an avid outdoorsman, instilled in young Clint a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing.
Clint attended school in Palacios and graduated from Palacios High School in 967. He attended Wharton County Junior College before transferring to Texas A&M; University. He left College Station to provide for his wife and young son.
He worked at the Texas Highway Dept. in Port Lavaca and continued his education by taking courses at Victoria College. After 10 years with the Highway Dept., he started a seismograph company that he operated for many years. In 1982 he built his home in Carancahua where he resided until the time of his dead.
He is survived by his spouse, Charlotte Loff of Carancahua; daughter Bridgette Loff and son-in-law Carlos Diaz of Palacios; son Nathan Loff of Carancahua; grandchildren David and Christen Sandoval of Palacios and Catherine Dodson; step-daughter Laurie Revel; brother Aaron L. Loff of Houston; and sisters and brothers-in-law Cindy and Eddie Litten of New Market, Virginia, Chris and Larry Kornegay of Houston, and Debi Loff and Gary Brady of Houston; nephews Kyle Kornegay, Steven Rizzo, J. Michael Gomez, Jeff Litten and Joshua Ripple; nieces Joy (Gomez) Kulis, Natalie (Gomez) Jordan, Veronica Jill Gomez, Kayla Loff, Kendra Kornegay, and Koral Kornegay.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Christopher Arvid Loff; and his first wife, Cathy (Holloway) Loff Revel.

MARGIE LORENE ACKERMAN
Graveside funeral services for Margie Lorene Ackerman, 78, of Blessing, were held May 26, 2007 at Hawley cemetery near Blessing.
Mrs. Ackerman was born Jan. 26, 1929 in Deutschburg, TX to the late Leo P. and Martha Neuszer. She died May 23, 2007.
The life long resident of Blessing was a homemaker, a 30 year member of the Bay City Bowling Association, and a member of the Midfield Home Demonstration Club. She was an avid quilter, winning many awards for her quilting talents.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” W. Ackerman, Sr. She will be laid to rest with her loving husband of 54 years on the date of their wedding anniversary.
She is survived by daughters Eileen Ackerman and Fred Sailor of Elgin; Gale Rush and husband C.W. of Markham; son Wayne Ackerman, Jr. and wife Brenda of Uvalde; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

DIONICIO "NICK" LUNA SR.
A funeral mass for Dionicio "Nick" Luna Sr., 79, of Palacios, was held May 18, 2007 at at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in Palacios.
Burial with full military honors under the auspices of Veterans of Foreign Wars Queen Hamlin Post No. 2467-Palacios was held at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Luna was born March 10, 1928, in Yorktown, Tx. to the late Andres Cilguero and Maria Sanchez Luna. He died May 15, 2007.
He was a retired operator with Alcoa and a member of the Alcoa 25 Year Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, ranked as a private first class. He was a Catholic.
He is survived by his daughter, Consuello Luna of Richmond; sons, Dionicio Luna Jr. and wife Silvia Aguilar Luna of Fort Worth, Edward Luna of Bay City, and Andrew "Andy" Luna Sr. of Rosenberg; sister, Paula Lewis of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarita Samora-Luna; and brothers, Elias Luna, Toribio Luna, and Roberto Cabarubio.
Pallbearers were Dino Luna III, Andrew Luna Jr., Ralph Rodriguez, Adam Rodriguez, David Llanes, Edward Luna, Louis Correra, and Nathan Pinkerton. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Veronica Luna-Barnes, Andrea Villarreal; and great-grandchildren, Evanna Luna, Victoria Villarreal, Faith Elizabeth Villarreal, and Dean Barnes.

ELSIE OLSON
Funeral services for Elsie Olson, 92, formerly of Palacios, were held May 21, 2007 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Her son Edwin Olson conducted the service. Interment was at the Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Olson was born October 21, 1914 in Jackson County, TX to Andrew and Hulda Johnson Loff. She died May 17, 2007 in Rexburg, Idaho.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Edwin and Linda Olson of Rexburg, Idaho; 14 grandchildren James Hebel, Gary Hebel, Jeff Hebel, Shawn Olson, Eugenia Thompson, Joe Olson, Elna Yochim, Cody Olson, Ezra Olson, Jacob Olson, Isaac Olson, Andrew Olson, Hannah Olson and Rebekah Olson; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Morris Olson, and a daughter, Martha Hebel.

STEVE M. RICKAWAY
Funeral services for Steve M. Rickaway, 92, of Blessing, were held May 17, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bay City with Rev. Lee Rickaway officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing.
Mr. Rickaway was born July 31, 1914 in Matagorda County to the late Frank Henry and Rebecca Alice Tolleson Rickaway. He died May 13, 2007.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blessing; Endowed Member of the Blessing Masonic Lodge #411 AF&AM; where he served a 1 year tenure as District Deputy Grand Master; and a 50 year member of the Bay City Chapter #380 O.E.S.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Elaine and Henry Day of Blessing and Stella Ruth and Jay Coffman of Dickinson; brother Curtis Ray Rickaway of Jones Creek; eight grandchildren and their spouses Jennifer and Jay Morgan, Jana and Chad Huddleston, Randy Rickaway, Lisa and Michael Remmy, Chris Rickaway, Kevin and Cathy Rickaway, Kimberly Morgan and Melissa Coffman; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Herreth Rickaway and two sons, James Edward “Jimmy” Rickaway and Frank Everett “Poncho” Rickaway.
Pallbearers were Randy Rickaway, Kevin Rickaway, Chris Rickaway, Michael Remmy, Chad Huddleston and Cole Rickaway.

LELAND H. ‘SARGE’ DAVIS
Funeral services for Leland H. “Sarge” Davis, 89, of Blessing, were held May 7, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City with Rev. Hill Winfrey officiating. Interment with with military honors was at Hawley cemetery near Blessing.
Mr. Davis was born Aug. 5, 1917 in Gunner, TX to Joe Knox Davis and Mary Frances West Davis. He died May 2, 2007.
He retired as Sargent in the US Air Force; was a member of the Blessing American Legion and the El Campo VFW Post.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Davis of Blessing and a number of nieces and nephews.
