MARTHA EUREKA MARTIN NEUSZER
Funeral services for Martha Eureka Martin Neuszer, 101, were held May 5, 2007 at Palacios Funeral Home and conducted by her grandson-in-law, Rev. James Collins. Interment was at Hawley cemetery near Blessing.
Mrs. Neuszer as born Feb. 24, 1906, to Eureka Billings Martin and Frank Duffy Martin.in Gillette, Karnes County, TX. She died May 2, 2007 in Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City, TX. after having lived over a century at the age of 101 years, 2 months, 8 days.
Mrs. Neuszer was a long time resident of Blessing, TX.
She completed high school in Sample, TX, in April 1925.She married
Leo P. Neuszer in Gonzales, TX, on Dec. 21, 1927, after which time they later moved to Matagorda County, first in Deutschburg community, then to the Blessing community. The family moved to the present home site in January 1939 where Mrs. Neuszer lived until November 2005 when she became a resident in the Matagorda House Nursing Home.
During her latter years Mrs. Neuszer remained quite active in spite of her advanced age, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Blessing. She was an avid member of the Midfield Home Demonstration Club. Her publicized hobby has been crocheting baby and children’s caps. In April 2001, M.D. Anderson, Houston, TX, recorded 810 caps, which she donated to their children’s unit. Since then, until November 2005, Mrs. Neuszer continued to crochet caps for the hospital, as well as for Women’s Pregnancy Center in Bay City.
Mrs. Neuszer is survived by her daughter, Margie Ackerman of Blessing, TX; son, Leo Neuszer and wife, Nalona of Bay City, TX; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dora Martin of Columbus, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo P. Neuszer; two brothers, Clyde and Earl Martin; three sisters, Eula Martin, Selma Rollins, and Leona Rackley; her son-in-law, Bob Ackerman of Blessing, and one infant granddaughter, Connie Lynnette Neuszer.

LILLIAN SHAE HANSEN
A memorial service for Lillian Shae Hansen, six years old, of Danevang, were held May 1, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in El Campo with Rev. Joyce McCormick officiating.
She was born on Aug. 26, 2000 in Bay City to Dean and Shana Hansen. She completed her life’s journey here on earth on April 27, 2007.
Lillian was a first grader at Myatt Elementary. Her favorite activities were dance class and playing with baby kittens.
She is survived by her parents Dean and Shana Hansen, and her baby brother, Grady Hansen, of Danevang; grandmothers Myrna Hansen Thyssen Jurek of Danevang and Madelyn Horrocks of Toowomba, Australia, and many other family members in both America and Australia. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, John Bruce Hansen and Terence John Noble.

CHIEF MACHANIST MATE (SS) JOHN CLEERE
Chief Machinist Mate (SS) John Cleere, 80, of Bay City, TX, died April 27, 2007.
He was born June 10, 1926 in Richland, TX to the late Myrtle and John B. Cleere, Sr.
He grew up in Comanche, OK and entered the Navy in 1943. After World War II he transferred to the submarine service and served on both diesel and nuclear submarines. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service.
Chief Cleere married
Vera Casale in 1949 and had four children who survive him— Gail, Jeanne, John III, and James. He is also survived by his brother, Tommy Cleere of Tres Palacios, his sisters Louise Pierce of Oklahoma and Betty Friedrich of Oregon.
Subsequently divorced, he married
Dorothy Marshall who predeceased him in 2002.
Chief Cleere will be interned with his second wife at Arlington National cemetery in Washington, DC in early June after a private memorial service.

VICTORIA MARIE DURAN
Funeral services for infant Victoria Marie Duran were held May 1, 2007 at Bible Baptist Fellowhip Church in Palacios with Pastor Richard Alamia officiating.
Victoria was born April 26, 2007 to Bianca Marie Cantu of Palacios and Bruce Duran of Houston. She died April 26, 2007.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents DeloreS Cantu of Palacios and Ramon Cantu of San Juan; and paternal grandparents Edward and Maria Duran of Houston.
EDWARD J. KANA
Funeral services for Edward J. Kana, 64, of Lake Jackson were held April 26, 2007 at St. Michael’s Church in Lake Jackson with Father Leo Wleczyk officiating.
Mr. Kana was born Oct. 11, 1942 in El Campo to George and Elizabeth Kana. He died April 21, 2007 at Three Rivers, TX on his family deer lease.
Mr. Kana grew up in Palacios and graduated from Palacios High School in 1961, where he was voted Most Outstanding. He went to Texas A&M; where he received his BA degree in Industrial Technology in 1965. He married
Margaret Wallin in August 1966 and he continued his education at Texas A&M.; They both graduated in May 1968 when he received a Master’s Degree in Industrial Education. He started his teaching career at Clute Intermediate School in 1968. After serving in many capacities, he retired in 2001 from Brazosport ISD with 33 years in the educational field. He loved being retired and often wondered how he had found the time to work with all of his many varied interests.
Mr. Kana was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, where he served as Extraordinary Minister. His faith was private, but very deep. He loved the church and his Risen Lord.
Hunting was a great passion of Mr. Kana’s. Most of his hobbies developed out of his love of the sport of hunting deer, wild turkey, and feral hogs. He was a hunting knife craftsman, and a long rifle gunsmith. He was a member of the Greenwood Longrifles and took many top honors in the Texas X Center Matches where he placed in the top five 16 times. He was an Expert Marksman. He was also an avid bowhunter and a member of the Lone Star Bowhunters Association and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret Kana; sons Chris and Carl, both of Lake Jackson; sister Betty Boyd of Austin; brothers Tony Kana of Palacios, Joe Kana and wife Bobbie of Palacios, George Kana Jr. of Palacios and Bobby Kana and wife Dena of Santa Fe, TX.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth Kana and brothers Dan and Michael Kana.
Pallbearers were Joe Allen, Steve Efird, Andy Larson, Dean Mitchell, Gene Greene and Steve Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Greenwood Longrifles.
Memorial donations may be made to the Gulf Coast Blood Center, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Michael’s St. Vincent de Paul Society at 100 Oak Drive South, Lake Jackson.
ROBERT ‘BOBBY’ BELL
Funeral services for Robert “Bobby” Bell Sr., 77, of Blessing, were held April 21, 2007 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jim Ely Officiating. Interment followed at Forest Park East cemetery in League City.
He was born May 18, 1929 in Fort Smith Arkansas to the late James and Mary Campbell Bell. He died April 18, 2007 at his home.
Mr. Bell served his country during Korea as a Soldier in the U S Army.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Young Bell of Blessing; daughters Saradee Alan St. Johns of Bay City, Diane Linda Kerr of Houston, and Karen Bell Griffin of Pearland; son: Robert Neil Bell, Jr. of Louisiana; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

LILA B. HOGUE
Funeral services for Lila B. Hogue, 72, of Palacios, were held April 12, 2007 at Brookside Memorial Park Chapel in Houston, TX with Pastor Louis Rush officiating. Interment was at Brookside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hogue was born May 27, 1934 in Madisonville, TX., one of ten children born to English Lamar Nickerson and Ila Inez Parker. She died April 7, 2007 at her home in Palacios.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Palacios. A more loving, giving caring person you could not find. Lila was a nurse as well as a mother and her advice to family and friends will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her five children, David Earl, Marshall Lee, Daniel Wade, Barbara Sue and Rebecca Lynn; her husband, Mark Charles Hogue; 12 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
GILBERT G. LLANES
Gilbert G. Llanes. 62, went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2007. Mr. Llanes was born September 21, 1944. Funeral services were held at the Veteran Funeral Services in Houston, TX, on April 23, 2007.
He was a Gospel Saxaphonist, a member of the Lakewood Church, Minister of the Gospel, and a member of Pasadena Chaplin Corp.
He is survived by his wife Lupita Llanes, children; Carissa, Selina, and Lee, grandchildren; Evan and Isaiah, brothers; George and David LLanes, sisters; Gloria L. Garcia and Jodie L Cedillo.
