MATILDA VACULIN KASPAR
Funeral services for Matilda Vaculin Kaspar, 81, of Blessing, were held Feb. 2, 2007 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment was at St. Peter’s Catholic cemetery in Blessing.
Mrs. Kaspar was born March 13, 1925 in Cameron, Tx. to the late George Frank and Frances Vaculin. She died Jan. 30, 2007.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and The Altar Society; member of SPJST and loved to cook and bake.
She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Thorn of Bay City and Mary and James Gillam of Evans, GA; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ben G. and Linda Kaspar of Bay City, John and Linda Kaspar of Victoria, and Steven and Susan Kaspar of Blessing; sisters Tillie Dornak of Blessing and Albina Hickl of El Maton; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Anton Kaspar; sisters Lillian Vaculin and Steffie Dornak; and brother Frank Vaculin.
Pallbearers include Jared Kaspar, John Kaspar, Jr., Danny Reissig, Ronald Hickl, Donald Hickl, and Emil Vaculin. Honorary pallbearers are Trent Kocurek, James Gillam, Jr. and Justin Kaspar.

ALICIA A. PEQUENO
Rosary services for Alicia A. Pequeno, 76, of Palacios were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006 at the Palacios Funeral Home . A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Palacios with Rev. James R. Nischan officiating. Interment will be at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Pequeno was born July 7, 1930 in Falfurrias, TX to Pedro Ayarzagoitia and Jovita Nevarez Ayarzagoitia. She died Oct. 14, 2006 in Houston, TX.
She was a resident of Palacios since 1943, retired as a seafood processor from Dumas Seafood in Palacios and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Palacios.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa Gomez and husband Guadalupe of Wharton; her mother Jovita Martinez of Edcouch; step-son Julio G. Pequeno of San Benito; sisters Imelda Cedillo and Gloria Perez of Surprise, AZ, Bertha Perez of Mississippi, and Rosalinda Ramos of La Villa; half-brother Pedro Ayarzagoitia of Houston; and grandchildren Ruben, Gabriella, Aaron, Evelyn, Bethany and Gianna Gomez, all of Wharton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro “Pete” Guerrero Pequeno; her father Pedro Ayarzagoitia; and brothers Samuel and Remijio Longoria.
Pallbearers will be David Longoria, Ray Becerra, Leo Nevarez, Nayo Nevarez, Remijio Longoria, Serafin Lopez, Ruben Gomez, Gabrielle Gomez, Aaron Gomez, Ricardo Moreno, Luisa Moreno and Joe Jimenez.

ELIZABETH ANN SELLS RAMSEY
Funeral services for Elizabeth Ann ‘Libby’ Sells Ramsey, 85, of Palacios, were held Oct. 16, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor June White officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Ramsey was born Nov. 10, 1920 in Seguin, Tx. to the late William Monroe Sells and Beatrice Moore Sells. She died Oct. 10, 2006.
She was the owner and operator of “Libby’s Beauty Shop” for many years. She was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church. She was an avid bingo player and loved playing bridge with her friends.
She is survived by daughters Mary Pennington of Houston, Betty Wier of El Campo, and Debbie Ramsey and Linda Bates, both of Palacios; sisters Olive Wrenn of Port Lavaca and Katie Chiles of Bayou La Batre, Alabama; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Ramsey; and brothers Monroe Sells, Jr., Norval Sells and Harold Sells.

ALMA JO WILSON
Funeral services for Alma Jo Wilson, 76, of Palacios, were held Oct. 12, 2006 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Wilson officiationg. Interment will be at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson was born Nov. 3, 1929 in Van Alstyne, Tx. to the late Clyde Tippett and Frances Ella Casey Tippett. She died Oct. 9, 2006 at Palacios Community Medical Center.
She was a long time resident of Palacios and Victoria, a member of the Nazarene Church and was the owner of Wilson’s Grocery Store in Palacios.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Pam and Garry Seaman, Sr. of Palacios, and Alma Ruth and Ray Dody of Austin; a sister, Mozel Long of Goldthwaite, Tx.; a brother, Clyde B. Tippett of Odessa, Tx.; grandchildren Michelle Atkinson, James Seaman and Garry Seaman, Jr.; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. R. “Jim” Wilson; and a son, James R. Wilson, Jr.

DOLORES LONGORIA
Funeral services for Dolores Longoria, 75, of Blessing, were held Oct. 11, 2006 at The Church of God and Prophecy in Blessing with Rev. Raymond Salinas officiating. Interment was at Midfield cemetery.
Mrs. Longoria was born March 27, 1931, in Kendleton, to the late Jose Villanueva and Aplolnia Gamez. She died Oct. 9, 2006 in Bay City.
She was member of The Church of God and Prophecy.
She is survived by daughters Rozann Longoria and Audrey Grandiola; sons Joe Frank Longoria, David Longoria Jr., Hector Longoria and Alfred Longoria; sisters Mercy Soto, Marcella Castillo and Antonia Charles; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Longoria, Sr.
Pallbearers were Frank Longoria Jr., Jesse Adkins, Jesse Martinez, Robert Longoria, Pete Lara and Javier Palomares.
DON LOUIS BATCHELDER
Funeral services for Don Louis Batchelder, 71, of Palacios were held Oct. 9, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. June White officiating. Interment will be at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Batchelder was born Feb. 24, 1935 in Palacios to Cecil Louis and Alice Elizabeth Foulks Batchelder. He died Oct. 6, 2006.
He farmed in the Palacios area for many years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Gerry Batchelder of Palacios; daughter Karen Batchelder Nemec of Palacios; sons and daughters-in-law Wesley and Jeanette Batchelder and Brent and Lisa Batchelder all of Palacios; daughter-in-law Cheri Batchelder of Port Lavaca; sister Jane Griffith of Francitas; and grandchildren Ellen, Stacy, Bradley, Holly, Lori and Brian Batchelder and Julie Nemec.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Ken Louis Batchelder.
Pallbearers were Bradley and Brian Batchelder, Wesley Landry, Mike McKissack, Joe Ray Beard and James Engbrock. Honorary pallbearers were Pat Jewell and Michael Batchelder.

ROBERT ALLEN PROCTOR
A memorial servicie for Robert Allen Proctor, 38 formerly of Palacios, was held Sept. 30, 2006.
Mr. Proctor was born Aug. 21, 1968, in Palacios to George and Ann Proctor. He died Sept. 24, 2006 in Houston, Tx.
He is survived by his sons, Alex and Robert Proctor of Cuero; daughter, Megan Proctor of Cuero; mother, Ann Proctor of Victoria; father, George Proctor of Palacios; brothers, Michael Proctor of Fort Hood and Thomas Proctor of Victoria; and grandmother, Della Cowart of Bay CIty.
JOSEPH ‘LEONARD’ LAMAR
Graveside Masonic services for Joseph “Leonard” Lamar, 92, of Highlands, Tx. were held Sept. 23, 2006 at the Woodlawn cemetery, 1101 Antoine in Houston.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn cemetery.
Mr. Lamar was was born Aug. 8, 1914 in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Lena and William Bell Lamar. He died Sept. 21, 2006 at Columbus Community Hospital.
He lived in Houston until 1963 wher he worked as a dairyhand, welder, policeman, and car dealer until moving to Highlands, Tx. He owned and operated a rental business and worked for Harris County until the age of 81. He joined the Masons while living in Highlands and was a recipient of their Golden Trowel Award for service to his community. He also was a member of the Art League, painted oils, and was recognized as Volunteer of the Year in 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Beatrice (Bea) of almost 72 years; son, Leonard Leon Lamar and wife, Joan, of Palacios; daughter, Florence Lee Crews and husband, John, of Columbus; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and a grandson.
