FRANK EVERETT ‘PONCHO’ RICKAWAY
Funeral services for Frank Everett “Poncho” Rickaway, 71, of Blessing, were held Sept. 20, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City with Rev. Lee Rickaway officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing.
Mr. Rickaway was born Aug. 30, 1935 in Tivoli, Tx. to Steve M. and Viola Clara Herreth Rickaway. He died Sept. 16, 2006 in a Houston hospital.
He moved to Blessing with his family as a baby. He was proud to have been an Eagle Scout when as a young boy he traveled to New York to the National Jamboree. He was a charter member of the Blessing Volunteer Fire Department, charter member and past president of the Blessing Kawanis Club, and past president and board member of the Matagorda County Water District #5.
On June 6, 1957 he married
Wanda Neuman Rickaway. They had 25 years together before her death in 1985.
He is survived by his father, Steve Rickaway of Blessing; son Randy Rickaway of Blessing; daughter Jana Huddleston and husband Chad of Midfield; sisters Elaine Day of Blessing and Stella Ruth Coffman of Dickinson; grandchildren Cole Rickaway of Blessing, Randi Renee Rickaway of Houston, Graci and Grant Huddleston of Midfield; great granddaughters Bailey and Katelyn Rickaway of Blessing; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Chris Rickaway, Kevin Rickaway, Alan Neuman, Kyle Neuman, Bryan Neuman, Chris Neuman, and John K. Neuman.

MARGARET COMPTON KNIGHT
Graveside services for Margaret C. Knight, 95, formerly of Palacios, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 at Brookside Memorial cemetery in Houston.
Margaret was born August 22, 1911 in Lytton Springs, TX to James Hart Compton, Sr. and Rosalie Palmer Compton. She died Sept. 17, 2006 at a Waco nursing home.
She graduated from Lockhart High School and attended Southwest Texas in San Marcus. She and her beloved husband Edward Milton Knight were married
in 1932 in Lockhart, TX. She was a Sunday School teacher in her church in Houston for 30 years, and later she taught Sunday School to senior adult women in Palacios. She moved to Crestview Nursing Facility in 1996 where she participated in Bible Tournaments and RSVP activities.
She is survived by her daughter Gayle Moak, husband, Tom of Waco; son James Knight and wife, Shirley of Georgetown; grandchildren Laura James and husband, Kent; Bob Moak and wife, Lisa; Karl Knight and wife, Terry; Kent Knight and wife, Regina; and 8 great-grandchildren Elyzabeth Moak, Austin James, Avery James, Jesse Knight, Katy Knight, Kristen Knight, Amanda Knight and Rachel Knight.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Knight and her daughter, Susan Beth Knight.
CATHERINE LOUISE MING HITCHCOCK
Funeral services for Catherine Louise Ming Hitchcock, 56, of Palacios, were held Sept. 15, 2006 at Green’s Mortuary in Bay City with the Rev. James Roberson officiating. Interment was at Midfield cemetery.
Mrs. Hitchcock was born March 11, 1950, in Corsanda, to the late Tony and Maxine Anderson Ming. She died Sept. 11, 2006, at Palacios Health Center in Palacios.
She was a member of VFW Post 2438 Ladies Auxiliary for 20 years.
She is survived by her husband, William Franklin Hitchcock; daughter, Anna Louise Parks; brother, Thomas Ming; stepfather, Buddy S. Anderson; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Ming.
Pallbearers were S.T. Eidson, Roy Fikes, Gene McDonald, Leonard McIntosh, Brent Marceaux, Jesse DeLeon, William Bealefield and Cirtis Walls. Honorary pallbearers were William Franklin, Jimmy Millif.
COURTNEY LEE GRIGSBY
Funeral services for Courtney Lee Grigsby, 52, of Palacios, were held Sept. 9, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Grigsby was born Feb. 7, 1954, in Palacios, to Winnie Deadrick Grigsby and the late Donald Grigsby. He died Sept. 6, 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Grigsby; son, Courtney Grigsby Jr.; sisters, Dawn Broussard and Jeri Cook; and brother, Guy Grigsby.

JESSIE ‘POLLY’ SCHUMAKER
Graveside services for Jessie "Polly" Schumaker, 63, of Palacios, were held Sept. 7, 2006 at Red Bluff cemetery in Port Lavaca.
Mrs. Schumaker was born Nov. 13, 1942, in Port Lavaca to the late Jack D. and Wheelie Ray Garbe. She died Sept. 4, 2006.
She was a homemaker and a volunteer at the Food Pantry in Palacios.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald Schumaker of Victoria and Donald Schumaker of Lolita; sister, Jacque Garbe of Palacios; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Schumaker Sr. and sister, JoAnn Garbe.

CAROL SHUGART
Graveside services for Carol Shugart, 72, were held Aug. 27, 2007 at Palacios cemetery with Rev. David Gruhn officiating.
Mrs. Shugart was born Aug. 2, 1934, in Garfield, to the late J.D. and Helen Eugenia Lockhart Smith. She died Aug. 23, 2006.
She is survived by daughters Pat Carpenter of Taylor, Evelyn Gauna of Tempe, Ariz., and Sharon Holbrook of Palacios; sons Welton T. Shugart Jr. of Carmel, Ind., and Michael Shugart of Willow Springs, N.C.; sisters Vivian McClure of Elgin and Fannie Lawrence of Garfield; brothers J.D. Smith Jr. of Waelder, and Jackie Smith of Rosenberg; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was prededed in death by her husband. W.T. Shugart.
MAE BELL EDWARDS
Graveside services for Mae Bell Edwards, 94, of Tres Palacios Oaks, were held Aug. 29, 2006 at Forest Park cemetery in Houston.
Mrs. Edwards was born May 12, 1912 in Oklahoma to Cora and Claude Justus. She died Aug. 25, 2006 in Palacios, Tx.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her two sons.
JUANITA RUTH DOCKERY
Graveside services for Juanita Ruth Dockery, 82, of Webster, Tx. were held Aug. 28, 2008 at Palacios cemetery with Rev. David Gruhn officiating.
Mrs. Dockery was born July 22, 1924 in Palacios, Tx. to Charlie and Estella Dyer McConnell. She died Aug. 24, 2006.
She was a former longtime resident of Palacios.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Dockery of Webster, and two nephews and their families Gary and Doris Corporon of Halletsville, Tx. and Charles and Ethel Nelson of Tennessee Colony, Tx.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray “Doc” Dockery in 1975.
Her husband’s former co-workers from Sun Oil Company served as honorary pallbearers.

JOSEFINA DIAZ GUERRERO
A rosary for Josefina Diaz Guerrero, 72, of Palacios, was recited Aug. 22, 2006 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. A funeral mass was Aug. 23, 2006 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dowomoh officiating.
Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Guerrero was born March 19, 1934 in Mexico to Jose and Juana Zavala Diaz. She died Aug. 20, 2006.
She had been a resident of Palacios for over 40 years and was a member or St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters. Irene Carpenter of Marshall, TX and Mary Torres of Mobile, Alabama; five sons. Jose Guerrero, Juan Guerrero and Ramon Guerrero, Jr. all of Palacios, and Abel Guerero and Joe Angel Guerrero both of Houston; three brothers, Porfirio Diaz of Harlingen, Jose Diaz of San Jose, CA and Manuel Diaz of Fresno, CA; 25 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ramon Guerrero.
Pallbearers are Armando Garza, Jr., Ramon Guerrero III, Joe Edward Guerrero, David Torres, Jr., Juan Guerrero, Jr. and Luis Guerrero.
