ELI C. MAYFIELD
Funeral services Eli C. Mayfield, 87 of Palacios, were held June 30, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios with Rev. June White officiating. Burial was at the Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Mayfield was born Oct. 13, 1918 in Shongaloo, Louisiana to the late James T. Mayfield and Rosa McEachern Mayfield. He died June 25, 2006.
Eli Mayfield came to Palacios in 1941 when he was stationed at Camp Hulen. He met Wanda Fields who became his wife and soul mate. After his military service he attended law school at the University of Houston graduating in 1952 and opened a law office in Palacios. He continued to serve his country as Commanding officer of the Army Reserve Unit of Palacios until it disbanded in 1953.
Eli Mayfield was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Palacios. He served as lay minister, director of the youth choir in the 1940’s, taught a Sunday school class and served as Chairman and member on the Administrative Council and building committee.
He was a prominent state and national Democractic leader. He was a member and director of Palacios Golf Association which he had helped to build. He was a member of the Mid-Coast Canal Association and member of the Board of Directors of LCRA, serving as Chairman in 1976 and 1977. He was instrumental in getting Pollution Control Bonds sold and managed by Matagorda County Navigation Dist. 1 (MCND #1) which netted a percent of sales income to the district for the handling. He was also a member of Gulf Intercoastal Waterways Assn.
He was a lifetime member and held several offices of the Rotary Club, member and past commander of VFW Post 2467. He was a member of the Matagorda County Bar Association, the Texas State Bar Association, licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court. He served nearly 40 years as Palacios City Attorney and attorney for MCND #1.
He formed the Palacios Community Foundation as a way of giving financial assistance to numerous organizations and helped organize the Palacios Industrial Foundation which was re-organized with his assistance as City of Palacios Economic Development Corporation.
He was awarded the Palacios Chamber of Commerce’s Man of the Year Award in 1987. He was also a supporter of Texas Bay Fisherman’s Association.
He is survived by sons Mark Mayfield of Palacios, Kent Mayfield and wife Shelly of Wharton, and James Mayfield and wife Shawn of Palacios; daughter Wanda Lynn Blalock and husband Price of Seabrook; grandchildren Charity Mayfield, Faith Mayfield, Joy Mayfield, Lindsay Mayfield, Wade Mayfield, Price Blalock, Lauren Blalock and William Blalock; and brother James Roland Mayfield of Shreveport, Louisiana.

JOHN 'J.C.' WILLIAMS
A memorial service for John 'J.C.' Williams, 55, of Rosharon, Tx. and a former resident of Palacios, was held June 27, 2006 in the chapel at Houston National cemetery.
Mr. Williams born June 19, 1951 in Michigan City, IN. He died June 22, 2006 in Houston.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Farmer; daughters and sons-in-law, Bridget and Craig Scott, Sr., Michell and Jeff Howard; son, William Honshell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay Tilley, Dee and Tommy Laird, Millie and Tom Barger; brother, Bill Williams; five grandchildren; three nieces; and five nephews
JESSICKA R. SANDIFER
Memorial Services for Jessicka R. Sandifer, 24, of Palacios, were held June 24, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios.
Jessicka died June 11, 2006 at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was a loving and devoted mother and a resident of Palacios since 2005. She was an active advocate against domestic violence.
She is survived by her son, Leigh Xavier Rosa of Palacios; her mother, Lisa Sandifer of Palacios; maternal grandparents George and Deloris Noland of Houston; maternal aunts Donna Kilough and husband Kenneth of Dayton, Connie Epperson and Pamela Neader, both of Houston; an uncle, Leigh Sagstetter and Cindy Gray of Pattonville Village; aunt and uncle Carolyn and Earl White of Blessing; numerous cousins; best friend and sister Candace Buhrow of Houston; and best friends Tasha Sanchez of Palacios, Britt Barnes of Baytown and Crystal Rector of Palacios.
She will be greatly missed by all that knew her, but she has now received her heavenly rest.

EDWARD H. CONSTANCIO, SR.
Funeral services for Edward "Eddie" Hernandez Constancio Sr., 75, of Palacios, were held June 17, 2006 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating.
Burial with military honors under the auspices of VFW - Queen Hamlin Post No. 2467 was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Constancio was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Austin, to the late Trinidad B. and Guadalupe Hernandez Constancio. He died June 14, 2006.
He was a truck driver for the U.S. Postal Service where he retired after 20 years of service. He was a Catholic and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War where he served as a paratrooper.
He is survived by his wife, Consuelo Robles Constancio; daughters, Lupe Rodriguez of La Porte, Josefa "Josie" Christiansen, Tina Gonzalez, and Deena Constancio, all of Palacios; sons, Erbey De La Garza of Big Lake, Louis Constancio of Houston, Roland Constancio of Blessing, Eduardo "Edward" R. Constancio Jr., Jesse Constancio, Rudy Constancio, Gerry Constancio, Bobby Constancio, and Anthony Constancio, all of Palacios; sisters, Rosie C. Sanchez of Dallas, Rebecca C. Ottino of Palacios, and Elida C. Valdez of San Jose, Calif.; brothers, Jesse H. Constancio of Blessing, Trinidad H. Constancio Jr. of Rosharon, and Ray Constancio of Stockton, Calif.; 47 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard R. Constancio.
Pallbearers were Joel De La Garza, Edward Constancio Jr., Luciano Galvez, Michael Rodriguez Jr., Matthew Rodriguez and Mark Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Constancio, Jeremy Constancio, Gilberto Saldiernia, Roland Constancio Jr., Bobby Constancio Jr., Gerry Constancio Jr., Kenneth Constancio, Johnathan Constancio and Armando Galvez.
HOLLIS D. KIRKLAND
Funeral services for Hollis D. Kirkland, Sr., 65, of Bay City, were held June 15, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City will Rev. Sam Starks and Rev. Marvin Moore officiating.
Interment was at Hawley cemetery near Blessing.
Mr. Kirkland was born July 1, 1940 in Bay City to Walter Maine and Esther Naomi Morris Kirkland. He died June 11, 2006.
Hollis attended Bay City Public Schools from the first grade thru the eleventh. During high school he began working at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. In 1960 he enrolled in the Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones Mortuary School and graduated in 1961. He worked as a funeral director and embalmer in Galveston, Tx., Dyersburg, TN. and Dayton, Tx. before accepting a position with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City from 1970 to 1976.
After working in the Insurance Business in Louisiana, he returned to his life’s work as a funeral director with Taylor Bros. in 1979 and remained there until his death. He served as Funeral Director In Charge for the Palacios Funeral Home for many years.
Hollis joined the Bay City Lions Club over 26 years ago. He served as Lion Tamer, Tail Twister and served on the Board of Directors several times. He worked as a member of the Rice Festival Committee several times and served ad Bingo Chairperson for over 20 years. He was also a very active member of The Bay City Coastalaire. He touched the lives of many during his years at Taylor Bros.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Joice Kirkland of Bay City; sons Hollis D. “Kirk” Kirkland, Jr. and wife Maria of Bay City and Bryan Keith Coston Kirkland of Bay City; grandchildren Christian N. Kirkland, Christopher Ferina and Brenda Valencia all of Bay City; mother of his children Linda Sue Kirkland of Lacamp, LA.; mother-in-law Edith Joice of Bay City; his wife’s children April and husband Lonnie Jones and their children, Mollie, Dustin and Bethany of Birmingham, AL., Amber Siptak of Birmingham, AL. and AshLee Rutledge of Knoxville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jane Gayle Kirkland and brother David Kirkland.
Pallbearers will be Simon DeSoto, Adrian Fulton, Charles Townsend, James Starks, Larry Dulany, George Agnew. Honorary pallbearers include his co-workers from Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, members of the Bay City Coastalaires, members of the Bay City Lions Club, Darrell Rutledge, Jimmy Garza, Stephen Morrow, Harvey Wallace and Jimmy Morrow.

JUSTIN TAM DUONG
Funeral services for Justin Tam Duong, age 6, of Port Lavaca, were held June 14, 2006 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Pham officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Justin was born Sept. 12, 1999 in Houston, Tx. to Tam Le and Kim Nguyen Duong. He died June 8, 2006.
He is survived by his parents; maternal grandmother Mua Thi Nguyen; paternal grandmother Mai Le Duong of Houston; sisters Justine Duong and Christina Huynh both of Port Lavaca and Jade Duong of Houston; brother Christian Huynh of Port Lavaca; and Godfather Nam Van Nguyen of Palacios.
Pallbearers were Christian Huynh, Thai Son Hua, Brandon Nguyen and Long Nguyen.

DANNY L. PAINTER
Graveside services for Danny Lee Painter, 55, of Palacios, were held June 14, 2006 at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Painter was born Dec. 5, 1950, in Sun, W.V., to Dan and Erma Aliff Painter of Ypsilanti, Michigan. He died June 10, 2006.
He was a retired self-employed carpenter and a Baptist.
He is survived by daughters, Deanna Painter and Charity Perez, both of Palacios, Patra Painter of Bay City, and Ashley Painter of Ypsilanti, Mi.; son, Shane Painter of Palacios; sister, Karen Kennedy of Ypsilanti, Mi.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Painter.
