WELDON E. SCHNEIDER

Weldon E. Schneider died May 20, 2006 in Conroe. Tex. Interment was at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston.
Mr. Schneider was born March 12, 1924 in Shiner, Tx. to Alfred E. and Rosie Schuman Schneider.
After serving his country in the U. S. Army in World War II in Germany and France, he worked in the oil fields of Texas and retired from T & L Drilling Co.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy; grandson Jade Montgomery and wife Sandy, and great-grandchildren Christina and Jason, all of Conroe; sisters Ruby Boettcher of Pasadena/Palacios and Olga Kusak of Needville; and brothers Alfred of Point Comfort, Dickie of Seadrift and Johnny of Palacios.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson Jimmy Montgomery; sisters Lillie Marek and Gladys Rice; and brothers Edgar, Walter, Melvin, Marvin, Louis and Ted Schneider.

BESSIE ANN “DIXIE” JEWELL

Funeral services were held June 3, 2006 for Bessie Ann “Dixie” Jewell, 71 of Port Lavaca, Texas at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca, Texas. Her graveside service was held at Hawley cemetery near Blessing, Texas, with a reception following at the Palacios Recreation Center. The reception featured a collage of photos of her life. It was a life of “a million smiles.” She had bright smile and friendly out-going personality. She truly never met a stranger. She lived the scriptural promise that “laughter is good like a medicine.” She loved telling jokes and jesting to make people laugh.
Dixie Jewell was born February 24, 1935 in Lower Peach Tree Alabama to Fannie Jane and Eddie Eligh Williams. She was raised in Beaumont, Mississippi. She died May 29, 2006 at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital in Victoria, Texas.
She lived in Palacios Texas for over 28 years, married to Eddie L. Dunn., where they raised their five children. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Palacios and Charter Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge in Palacios.
After a divorce she married Bernard J. Jewell of Port Lavaca Texas, where she lived for the last 19 years and where their home remains.
She was a master seamstress, enjoyed crochet, painting and all types of crafts. She enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb. She loved working crossword puzzles and visiting through email on her computer. Her passion was helping to feed hungry children and providing for their needs. She was a prayer warrior and faithful follower of Christ. She was a member of Christ Community Church of Port Lavaca Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Fannie Jane Williams and Eddie Eligh Williams, a brother, Buster Williams of Pearl River, MS, and two sisters: Martha Shattuck of Frankfort, IN, Tipsy Williams Fowler of Beaumont, MS, and a grandson: Douglas Anthony Bexley of Kemah, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard J. Jewell of Port Lavaca; a daughter, Constance Bexley Iwanski and husband, Travis of Portland, TX; and sons, George Ronnie Bexley and wife, Kathy of Richmond, TX; Lindsey W. Bexley and wife, Cindy of Blessing, TX; Eddie L. Dunn, Jr. and wife, Lonnie of Palacios; Mark A. Dunn and wife, Monica of Palacios; a sister, Ada Jane Webb of Frankfort, IN; brother, Sam Williams of Picayune, MS, and thirteen grandchildren: Cheryl Bexley Nelson, Christopher Bexley, Colby Bexley, Lindsay Renee Bexley, Mark A. Dunn, Jr., Mykel Dunn, Matthew Dunn, Marissa Dunn, Desiree Dunn, Timothy Dunn, Jenna Dunn, Ariana Henty Whitting, Shea Henty, and ten great grandchildren: Justin Bexley, Andrew Zielonka, Myranda Zielonka, Blake Zielonka, Brook Piwonka, Taylor Thurmond, Drake Stonestreet, Jennifer Stonestreet, Kameron Dunn and Isabelle Dunn.
Pallbearers were her five grandsons and one great grandson: Christopher Bexley, Mark Dunn, Jr., Mykel Dunn, Matthew Dunn, Timothy Dunn, and Andrew Zielonka. Her casket was adorned with a family spray of 200 red roses.

FELICIANA G. LLANES

Funeral services for Feliciana G. Llanes, 82, of Palacios, were held May 26, 2006 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dowomoh officiating. Interment was at the Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Llanes was born Sept.1, 1923 in Edna, Texas to Jacinto and Josefa Jaso Garza. She died May 23, 2006 at Memorial Hermann Southeast in Houston. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, and a lifelong resident of Palacios. She is survived by daughters Gloria L. Garcia of Alvin, Tx. and Jodie L. Cedillo of New Braunfels, Tx.; sons George Llanes, Jr. of Bell Flower, CA, Gilbert Llanes of Pasadena, Tx. and David Llanes of Alvin, Tx.; sisters Mary Guajardo of Texas City, Tx. and Lillie Perez of El Campo, Tx.; brother Jacinto Garza of Freeport, Tx.; 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Llanes; son, Domingo Llanes; and brother, Ray Garza. Pallbearers will be George Llanes, Jr., George Llanes, Sammy Garcia, Jr., David Llanes, Jr., Carlos Cedillo, Rick Cedillo, and Adrian Llanes. KEVIN RAY YOXTHEIMER

Funeral services for Kevin Ray Yoxtheimer, 17, of Midfield, Tx.were held May 20, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City with Rev. Michael Blevins officiating. Interment followed in Midfield cemetery. Mr. Yoxtheimer was born May 8, 1989 in Wharton, Tx. to Robin and Evelyn Yoxtheimer. He died May 15, 2006 in Corpus Christi. He was a resident of Midfield for 14 years, and a junior at Tidehaven High School in El Maton, TX. He is survived by his parents, Robin and Evelyn Yoxtheimer of Midfield; grandparents: Verbon and Kimi Bradley of Midfield, Flossie Yoxtheimer of Bay City, and Earl and Chris Stroup of Midland, Tx.; sister Kimi Rozner and husband Mike of Bay City; uncles David Bradley of Norfolk, VA and David Yoxtheimer of Bay City; and aunts Suzie Garza of Van Vleck, Tx., Teresa Stroup of Indiana, Meghan Stroup of Midland, and Marcy Yoxtheimer of Bay City. VICTOR L. PEREZ

A Knights of Columbus Rosary for Victor L. Perez, 76, of Palacios was recited May 12, 2006 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Funeral services were held May 13, 2006 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was follow at the Palacios cemetery. Mr. Perez was born March 23, 1930 in Olivia, Tx. to Ascencion and Anastacia Lopez Perez. He died May 11, 2006 at his residence. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict; retired from Alcoa Aluminum Co. in 1982; was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church; a life long resident of Palacios; a member of Alcoa 25 Year Club; and Life Member and Chaplain of the Palacios VFW Post 2467. He is survived by his wife Anita Guzman Perez; daughter and son-in-law Sylvia and Tom Navarro; son and daughter-in-law Richard G. and Christine Perez all of Palacios; sisters Cruz Carmelo of South Houston and Dominga Gonzales of Palacios; brothers Henry L. Perez of Palacios, Paul Perez of Pt. CAROLINE SARTWELLE BUFFALOE

Memorial services for Caroline "Kay" Sartwelle Buffaloe, 78, of Palacios, were held May 7, 2006 at St. John's Episcopal Church with Dr. James Ely officiating. Mrs. Buffaloe was born Aug. 29 1927 along with her twin sister, May, in Houston, Tx. to the late J.W. and Laura Arnold Sartwelle. She peacefully answered His call in the presence of her four children and sisters on May 2, 2006. A longtime resident of Palacios, her journey ended after a very rich and full lifetime of wit, love and laughter. She married Hugh Franklin Buffaloe on Valentine's Day in 1950. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Mary Anna and Jimmy Bosshamer of Houston, and Caroline and Rafael Hill of Long Beach, Calif.; sons and daughter-in-law Henry Buffaloe of Palacios, and Tommy and Sonja Buffaloe of Madisonville; her beloved grandchildren Kaylin Buffaloe, Anna-Marie Buffaloe, and Noa Hugh Hill; a brother, Robert Sartwelle of Gilham, Ark.; sisters Helen Buckley and Mary Jane "May" Willis of Houston, and Margaret DeBardeleben of Birmingham, Ala.; as well as numerous cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Franklin Buffaloe; brothers J.D. and Henry Sartwelle; and in-laws Frank and Mary E. Buffaloe. BETTY LOU RICKAWAY

Funeral services for Betty Lou Rickaway, 66, of Blessing, were held May 3, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City. Interment was at Hawley cemetery near Blessing. Mrs. Rickaway was born Sept. 30, 1939 in Midfield, TX to the late Ira Alexander "Jim" Fitzgerald and Edith Day Fitzgerald. She died April 28, 2006 at her home. She was the manager of the Cattlemen's Motel in Bay City for many years. She was a member of the Midfield Community Church, the Blessing American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #649, the Matagorda County Historical Commission, on the Board of Directors of the Blessing Historical Foundation, and on the Board of Directors of the Hawley cemetery Association. She married the late James E. "Jim" Rickaway on July 16, 1960 and was a lifelong resident of Blessing. She is survived by her sons Chris Rickaway of Blessing and Kevin Rickaway and wife Cathy of Blessing; sister Marjorie Holt of Brady; grandchildren Jordan and Taylor Rickaway of Blessing; and many nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be Hank Fitzgerald, Leroy Fitzgerald, Louis Kopnicky, Adolph Biskup, Randy Rickaway and Lee Hall Pierce. Funeral services for Placido (Shorty) Martinez, Sr., 69, of Blessing were held May 1 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Pastor Tony Flores officiating. Interment was at Midfield cemetery in Midfield. Mr. Martinez was born Oct. 4, 1936 in Spurr, TX to Jose and Faustina Espinosa Martinez. He died April 27, 2006 at Matagorda Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bay City. He was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County and a member of Living Word Church in Palacios. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Maria Guerrero Martinez of Blessing; daughters Margie Llanes and son-in-law Benjamin, Eva Olguin and fiance Pete Morales, all of Blessing; sons and daughters-in-law Raul Martinez, Adam and Denise Martinez, Jesse Martinez, Tony Martinez, Placido, Jr. and Rhonda Martinez, all of Blessing; sisters, Frances Wade of Brenham, Maria Gonzalez of Lyons, and Estefana Gonzalez of Louise; brothers Magdaleno Martinez of Lockhart, Don Martinez, Larry Martinez, Nat Martinez and Senon Martinez, all of Somerville; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Faustina Martinez and his brothers Clemente and Victor Martinez. Pallbearers will be Alfred Lara, Tiofilo Guerrero, Jr., Richard Rocha, Alonzo Gonzalez, Rickey Gonzalez, and Ray Martinez. ARTHUR LEE HASKINS

Funeral services for Arthur Lee Haskins, 71, of Palacios, were held April 30, 2006 at Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. David Gruhn officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Haskins was born Jan. 6, 1935 in St. Louis, MO to Arthur and Mayme Hedge Haskins. He died April 26, 2006 in San Antonio. He had been a resident of Palacios since 1960, a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Baptist. He is survived by his wife Celia Maria Haskins of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law Debbie and Karl Koegel of San Antonio, and Sherlyn and Edward McCulla of Houma, LA; sisters Virginia Matlock of Orlando, FL and Mary Jean Waggner of New Florence, MO; and his grandchildren Phillip Haskins, Gabriella, Abigail, and Nathan Koegel, Rusty McCulla, and Jeremiah and Sarah Redland. Pallbearers were members of the Masonic Lodge 411 of Blessing, TX. Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.

VONDA S. MOTES

Funeral services for Vonda S. Motes, 66, of Port Lavaca, were held April 15, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca with Rev. Carl Westbrook officating. Miss Motes was born Sept. 20, 1939 in Francitas, TX to the late William Earl and Stella Ringo. She died April 12, 2006. She was a retired cook for the Calhoun County ISD, and a member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughters Sharlyn Goode of Port Lavaca, Joan McAfee of Port Lavaca, and Karen Williams of Victoria; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers were Derek Goode, Tyler McAfee, Donald McAfee, Damon Williams, Terry Hargus, David Hernandez. She was preceded in death by her husband William "Sonny" Motes; sisters Elsie Lee Plachy, Mary Bell and Lararicia Kaye Vinigire; and brother Calvin Meril Ringo.

GARDINA HELEN VAVRA BELCHER

A Funeral Mass for Gardina Helen Vavra Belcher, 93, of Bay City, was held April 13, 2006 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment was at St. Peter's Catholic cemetery in Blessing. Mrs. Belcher was born Nov. 4, 1912 in Caldwell, Tx. to Frank John and Johanna Popek Vavra. She died April 10, 2006. She retired as dispatcher for Hughes Aircraft in California and had been a resident of Matagorda County since 1978. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Holy Cross Altar Society. She is survived by sisters Betty Blackwell of Bay City and Alma McKissick of Palacios; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Ted Belcher, in 1997; and brothers Eddie, Franklin and Milton Vavra.

RICHARD 'RICK' BRUSH

A memorial service for Richard "Rick" Brush, 60, of Point Comfort, was held March 30, 2006 at Bauer Community Center in Port Lavaca with the Revs. John Fisher and Ron Shott officiating. It included a full law honor guard with bagpipes and the 21 gun salute and the last call, attended by Texas law enforcement officers. Mr. Brush was born Sept. 22, 1945, in Slaton, to the late Richard C. and Geneta Maxey Brush. He died March 27, 2006. He was Chief of Police for the City of Point Comfort and had previously been Security Officer for the Palacios Housing Authority. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Point Comfort where he was a Sunday School teacher and an usher. He is survived by his wife Linda Wheeler McCauley Brush, whom he married on June 20, 1988. He is also survived by sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Dana Moore of Belton, Robert and Cathy McCauley of Gonzales, James and Stephanie McCauley of Port Lavaca, Stephen and Jennifer McCauley of Austin; daughters and sons-in law Sammie Gonzales of Idalou, Michelle and Shawn Wehmeyer of Port Lavaca, Jennifer and Johnny Mikolas of Seadrift and Tara and John Voges of Port Lavaca; 18 grandchildren, Wesley and Travis Moore, Tiffany and Chelsea McCauley, Foreman, Walker and Gracie McCauley, Carly and Madison McCauley, Brittanie and Courtanie Gonzales, Garrett, Meghan and Justin Wehmeyer, Tessa, Torri and Ethan Mikolas and Trenton Voges; brother and sister-in-law Gary and Jan Brush of Slaton; and sister and brother-in-law Sandy and Weldon Self of Slaton. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory McCauley and nephews Nick Pack and Channing Wheeler. Funeral services for Alfred Sandoval, 39, of Lake Jackson and formerly of Palacios, were held March 27, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Palacios with the Rev. Juan Aguilera officiating. Internment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Sandoval was born Nov. 18, 1966, in Palacios, to David Sandoval, Sr. of Palacios and Sylvia Garcia Sandoval of Clute. He died March 20, 2006. He was a pipefitter. In addition to his parents, he is survived by sons, Alfred Porfirio Sandoval, Jasper Sandoval and Adriano Sandoval, all of El Campo; companion Bobbie Isaacs and son Clay Isaac of Lake Jackson; sister and brother-in-law Terri and Tony Perez, Jr. of Clute; brothers, David Sandoval Jr. of Clute and Matthew Sandoval, Sr. of Palacios; grandmother, Tana Sandoval of Palacios; nieces Rose and Jade Perez of Clute and Christen Sandoval of Palacios; nephews Tony III and Ryan Perez of Clute, David Sandoval III of Palacios, and Matthew Sandoval, Jr. of Palacios; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Louis Sandoval; grandparents Alicia and Porfirio Rodriguez; and grandfather Alfred Sandoval. Pallbearers were Tony Perez III, David Sandoval III, John Frank Lawrence, Jamie Garcia, Carlos (Chill) Garcia, and J. J. Munoz.

TIMOTHY PATRICK MORGAN

Timothy "Pat" Morgan, 48 of Grapevine, TX and formerly of Palacios, TX died March 12, 2006 in Grapevine. He will be most remembered for his ability to bring laughter to those who loved him though his enthusiastic animated storytelling. He is survived by his father, Roy Morgan of Jacksonville, Arkansas; a brothers Mike Morgan, of Jacksonville, Arkansas; and Danny Morgan and wife Sherry of Danbury, CT.; and two nephews and a niece. PORTER J. WARD, JR.

A memorial service for Porter J. Ward, Jr., 51, of Palacios, was held March 25, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios. Mr. Ward was born Nov. 19. 1954 in Tell City, Indiana to Porter J. and Ida B. Ward. He died March 17, 2006. He and his wife, Rhonda, are the owners of Palacios Taxi Service. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; son Joshua of Palacios; parents Edwin and Ida B. Hennesey of Jewitt, Tx; his father, Porter J. Ward; a brother, Allen Hennesey of Jewitt, Tx.; and a sister, Eddana Ritter of Jewitt, Tx. Due to Mr. Ward donating his body to the University of Texas Cancer Medical Research at M. B. Anderson, Houston, burial will be delayed up to two years. The family is very proud of this unselfish act in the hopes that the research may be able to find a cure for this dreaded disease so that someone else might live.

MARY ELLEN BANNERT

Funeral services Mary Ellen Peterson Bannert, 73, of the Carancahua Community, were held March 22, 2006 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Bros. Shan Jackson and Hollis Briscoe officiating. Interment was at Olivia cemetery. Mrs. Bannert was born Nov. 20, 1932 in Carancahua to the late Gustav Emil and Mary Alice Slaughter Peterson. She died March 19, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca, Tx. A life-long resident of the Carancahua Community, she was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Alvin Leon Bannert of Edna, Tx..; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary John Wolfe of Mahanoy City, Pa. and Sharon and Forrest Harter of Blessing, Tx.; sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin Dale and Janie Bannert of Sweeny, Tx., Marshall and Dianna Bannert of Dickerson, Tx., and Emil Glenn and JoLynn Bannert of Edna, Tx.; brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Rita Peterson of Carancahua Community; son-in-law Percy Venglar of Palacios; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Venglar; a sister, Leta Kelly; brothers, Charlie Peterson and Ludwig Peterson; and grandchildren Justin Bannert, Christopher and Chad Anthony Rogers, and Sheila Linette Harter. Pallbearers were Peewee Abraham, Doug Cornett, Victor Eggemeyer, David A. Frankson Jr., and Bryant and Charles Peterson. Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.
