Funeral services Erna Jurek, 92, of Bay City, were held March 22, 2006 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Jurek was born Dec. 3, 1913 in High Hill to the late Edward Joseph and Ernelie Wuerker Wick. She died March 19, 2006. She is survived by a sister, Rosie Jurek, of Bay City; Elizabeth Davis of Carneigie, Okla, and Frances Dornak of Lake Jackson, Tx.; and a brother, Ed Wick, of Carneigie, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jurek; sisters Ernelie Jurek, Matilda Shelton and Mary Wick; and brothers Richard Wick and Alfred Wick.
ANNIE STACY
Funeral services for Annie Stacy, 84, of Rockport, Tx., were held March 18, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Rockport. Mrs. Stacy was born Oct. 12, 1921 in Temple, Tx. to the late Thomas and Margarette Plachy. She died March 12, 2006. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Rockport. For the last 13 years since the death of her husband, Elmer, she has enjoyed traveling to her granddaughter Bej's home in Palacios and staying with them for extended periods of time. She especially loved to come to Palacios to have a yearly garage sale with her daughter. They would then take the money they made and go triple coupon shopping. Grandma (everyone called her that), loved children and was a big supporter of the South Texas Children's Home in Beeville, Tx. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Joe and Janine Stacy of Rockport; grandchildren Bej and Kenny Svatek of Palacios, Jay and Laura Stacy of Arlington, Tx., and Britton and Kim of San Antonio; great-granddaughters Stacy Svatek of Corpus Christi, Samantha Svatek of Hillsboro, Tx., Synthia Svatek of Palacios, Amanda, Ellen and Madison Stacy of Arlington, and Lyndsy and Crystyn Stacy of San Antonio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Stacy; daughter Elizebeth Kemp; and all eight of her siblings.

Funeral services for George Joe Aguilar Sr., 71, of Fort Myers, Fla., were held March 18, 2006 at St. Anthony's de Padua Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was be at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Aguilar was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Palacios, to the late Jesus Sr. and Josephine Carrio Aguilar. He died March 5, 2005. He was a mechanic and a Catholic. He is survived by daughters, Naomi Aguilar of Conroe, Sherry Meek of South Houston, Elisa Garza of Beaumont, and Monica Aguilar of El Campo; sons, George Joe Aguilar Jr. of Norco, La., Johnny Wayne Aguilar of Calera, Ala., Louis Anthony Aguilar Sr. of La Place, La. and Ernest Rene Aguilar of Pasadena; sisters, Mary Garcia of Palacios, Charlotte DeLeon of Falfurrias, and Lupe Young of Arlington; brothers, Jesus "Jessie" Aguilar Jr. of Harvey, La., Julius Aguilar of Palacios, Mike Aguilar of Marrero, La. and Victor Aguilar of Arlington; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Tommy Joe Street, 65, of Blessing, were held March 18, 2006 at Ashby cemetery. Mr. Street was born June 7, 1940 in Anderson, Ind., to the late Gurney and Marguert Hoffman Street. He died March 14, 2006. He was an Electronic Nuclear Engineer. He is survived by daughters, Paula Reavely of Mishawaka, Ind., Stephanie Street of Hillsboro, Ore., and Joanna Jupp of Holt, Mich.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
RUTH (SIFFORD) SMUDRICK
Graveside services for Ruth Florene (Sifford) Smudrick, 92 of Bay City, were held March 19, 2006 at Hawley cemetery near Blessing with D. W. D. Baker officiating. Mrs. Smudrick was born Oct 3, 1913 in Palacios to the late Oscar Lee Sifford and Mary May Downer Sifford. She died March 16, 2006. She was a member of the Baptist Church and a life long resident of Matagorda County. She is survived by her brothers William and Robert Lee Sifford of Bay City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services for Susan Beth Knight, 64, of Waco were held March 16, 2006 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room in Waco. Mrs. Knight was born Sept. 2, 1941, in Houston, TX to Edward Milton Knight and Margaret Compton Knight.ÊShe died March 14, 2006, at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. Beth did her under graduate work at Sam Houston State University (BA) and Master of Education at Texas A&M; University and other college work at Southwest Texas State University. She retired after 30 years of teaching Texas History at Palacios ISD in Palacios. She is survived by her mother; sister, Gayle Moak and husband, Tom of Waco; and brother, James Knight and wife, Shirley of Georgetown; nephews Karl and Kent Knight and families, Bob Moak and family, niece, Laura James and family. ROSALIE MAE NELSON ELLIS

Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Ellis was born at the Nelson home on Oct. 22, 1917 to Roy and Carrie Belle Nelson. She died March 13, 2006 in Bay City. She graduated from Collegeport High School in 1935 and from Southwest Texas State Teacher's College in 1940. She taught a total of 25 years in Richards, Bay City, and Palacios Schools. She married
W. L. Ellis on Oct. 5, 1947 and was a lifelong member of Matagorda County. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sons. Gilbert Ellis and Jerry Ellis. She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Jesse and Carolyn Ellis of Collegeport, Tommy and Pat Ellis of Palacios, and Dollee Ellis of Bacliff, TX; one sister, Ethel Williams of Bay City; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mike G. Losoya, 72, of Telephone, Tx. were held March 4, 2006 at Seventh and Main Baptist Church in Bonham, Tx. with the Rev. Don Gallatin officiating. Interment was at Forest Gove cemetery in Telphone. Mr. Losoya was born April 10, 1933, in Midfield, Tx. to the late Estanislao and Felipa Gonzales Losoya. He died Feb. 23, 2006. He was a self-employed landscaper, served as a corporal in the U.S. Army, and is of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Mamie Losoya; daughter, Ruth McKinney of Paris, Tx.; sons, Mike S. Losoya of Round Rock, Tx., and Simon M. Losoya of Sherman, Tx.; sisters, Eloisa L. Yanez of Bay CIty, Tx., Vera L. Gutierrez of Houston, Tx., Leonor L. Aguilera of Van Vleck, Tx., Josie L. CHARLIE V. "BILL" WARN
Funeral services for Charlie V. "Bill" Warn, 90, of Markham, Tx. were held March 3, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev's Paul Goodman and Lee Watson officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery. Mr. Warn was born June 20, 1915 in Palacios, Tx. to the late Charlie and Myrtle Warn. He died March 1, 2006 at the Matagorda House Healthcare Center in Bay City. He was an employee for Matagorda Co. Precinct #4 for 32 years, and delivered the Daily Tribune for 25 years. His favorite activities were raising chickens and being an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Dora Troutman Warn of Markham, Tx.; daughters and sons-in-law: Helen and Buddy Pratt of Ft. Worth, Tx., Mary and D. L. Layton of Bay City, Tx., Dorothy and Henry Havel of West Columbia, Tx., and Lilly and Tony DiStasi of Kennedale, Tx.; son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Linda Warn of Kennedale, Tx.; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Billy Warn; brothers Donald and Red Warn; and sisters Marg Hendly, Oma Raymond, and Myrtle Fletcher. Pallbearers were his grandsons: Charles Layton, Jeff Harvel, Mike Charron, Chuck Warn, Richard Hendry and Tony DiStasi.
CYRILL M. BABIK
Funeral services for Cyrill M. Babik, 82, of Markham, were held Feb. 22, 2006 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with the Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment was at St. Peter's Catholic cemetery. Mr. Babik was born Aug. 6, 1923, in Frydeck, to the late Leopold Babik and Frances Chrastina. He died Feb. 18, 2006. He was a farmer and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing and K.J.T. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his son, C.J. Babik Sr. of Markham; sister, Lilly Biskup of Bay City; brother, Jerry Babik of Bay City; and one grandchild. ALBERT LANE LEGG
Funeral services for Albert Lane Legg, 78, of Sweeny, Tx, were held Feb. 16, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Park cemetery in Van Vleck, Tx. Mr. Legg was born Aug. 8, 1927 in Bay City, Tx to the late Richard Hubert and Carrie Ethel Lowe Legg. He died Feb. 13, 2006. He grew up in Bay City and graduated from Bay City High School in 1945. Shortly after, he was inducted into the US Army and received his Honorable Discharge July, 1947. He was baptized at the age of seven in the First Baptist Church of Bay City, where he maintained his membership. He was employed by Phillips Petrochemical Refinery in Sweeny, TX for 37 years, retiring on Jan. 1, 1990. His most passionate hobby was his carpentry work which earned his side jobs. Albert was very proud of his grandchildren, and loved them all dearly. He was much loved as a husband, father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by all. Mr. Legg is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Turner Legg; daughters & sons-in-law: Donna Legg Wooten of Venus, Tx; and Melissa and Mark Rehak of Clear Lake, Tx; son: Brian Mark Legg of Houston; four sisters: Neva Myers Kelch of Amarillo; Norma McDonald and husband Gene; Margie Quinn and husband Rex; and Billie Suffling all of Bay City; brother: Luster Legg of Moxia, Tx; nine grandchildren: Crystal Green and Terry Hodge of Venus, Tx; Sean, Mark, Tyler and Nicole Legg of Houston; Brentley, Tristan, and Shaela Rehak of Clear Lake, Tx; three great-grandchildren: Kayla, Marshall, and Isiah of Venus, Tx; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Interment was at Hawley cemetery near Blessing with military honors under the auspices of VFW Post 2467 of Palacios. Mr. Corporon was born April 13, 1923 in Citrus Grove Community, Tx. to Percy Virgil Corporon and Lu Ellen Fox Corporon. He died Feb. 12, 2006 in Houston. He was a life-long resident of Matagorda County, a member of the Church of Christ of Palacios, a US Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, and a Life Member of VFW Post 2467 of Palacios. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Corporon of Palacios; daughter, Bonnie Carolyn Corporon of Palacios; sons, Kenneth Duane Corporon of Stafford, Tx. and Allen Neal Corporon of Liberty Hill, Tx.; brother, Larry Wayne Corporon of Houston; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. PHYLLIS J. HOLLOWAY
A memorial service for Phyllis J. Holloway, 57, of Rockport, Tx. were held Feb. 11, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios. Mrs. Holloway was born Feb. 8, 1948 in Waco, Tx to Johnnie and Alva Milton Rowton. She died Feb. 6, 2006 in Rockport. Before moving to Rockport ten years ago, she had been a resident of Palacios. She was a Laboratory Supervisor for Corpus Christi Women's Clinic in Corpus Christi, Tx. She is survived by her husband, Gerard Holloway of Rockport; daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Kevin Morrow of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and her mother, Johnnie Rowton of Palacios. She was preceded in death by her father, Alva Milton Rowton; and her brother, John M. "Butch" Rowton.
