Graveside services for Howard Fremont Mozley, Sr, 79, of Palacios, were held Jan. 26, 2006 at Hawley cemetery near Blessing with Bro. Shan Jackson officiating. Mr. Mozley was born July 25, 1926 in Foss, OK to the late Earl Franklin and Lola Gillespie Mozley. He died Jan. 23, 2006 at his residence. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and a resident of Palacios since 1932. He served in the US Navy during WW II, and was a farmer by trade. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Teri Lee and Donald Kelly of Palacios; son Howard Fremont Mozley, Jr. of Bay City, Tx; daughter-in-law Crystal Mozley of Palacios; and 5 grandchildren, Justin Kelly and wife Andrea of San Antonio, Dylan and Lucas Kelly both of Palacios, and Monte and William Mozley both of Palacios. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Lois Mozley; sister, Mildred Miller; and brothers, Clifford, Richard and Raymond Mozley. Funeral services for Dallas Delbert Talley, 69, of Beeville, Tx. were hled Jan. 25, 2006 at Galloway's Funeral Home in Beeville. Interment was at Glenwood cemetery in Beeville. Mr. Talley was born Aug. 24, 1936 to Wanda Cox Talley Jones and Claude Talley. He died Jan. 22, 2006. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Pettus, Tx. and was a retired oil field serviceman. Mr. Talley is survived by his wife, Linda Sinclair Talley of Beeville; son and daughter-in-law Dale Wayne and Laura Talley and grandchildren Giselle, Brian and Claire of Daphne, Ala., daughter-in-law Sherry Talley and grandsons Jesse and Joey of San Antonio; sisters and brothers-in-law Sandra and Scott Clark of Beeville, and Shelley and Wade Newsom of Palacios; sister-in-law Sylvia Talley of Victoria and Millie Talley of Friendswood; nieces Nickelle Arteaga of Beeville, Cynthia Ley of Cuero, Rhonda Neubauer of Shiner, Shanon Whitfield of Cuero, Carol Cunningham of Mississippi, Cindy Gillen of Houston; and nephews Darrell Talley of Victoria, Randall Newsom of Kerrville and Ron Reese of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Randy Jones, brother Billie Claude Talley and son Dallas Deen Talley. Funeral services for Manuel David 'Coon' Rodriguez, Sr., 59, of Palacios, were held Jan. 23, 2006 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Rodriguez was born Oct. 21, 1946 in Palacios to the late Miguel and Eva Alvarado Rodriguez. He died Jan. 20, 2006. He was a shrimper and a Catholic. He is survived by sons Mark Rodriguez of Birmingham, Ala., Manuel David Rodriguez, Jr. of Dallas, and Johnny Lucio Rodriguez of Palacios; sisters Mary Ellen Flores and Mary Diaz, both of Palacios; brothers Michael Rodriguez and Johnny Rodriguez, both of La Porte, Tx.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. BETTY JO SMITH
Funeral services for Betty Jo Smith, 76, of Palacios, were held Jan. 23, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 3, 1929 in Taylor, Ark. to Urby and Hazel Teutsch. She passed away peacefully on Jan. 19, 2006. Betty was a resident of Palacios since 1955. She was a longtime member of the Harmonie Club and was very active locally. She loved fishing, gardening and cooking especially gumbo. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jimmie L. Smith of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law Beverly and Glenn Garcia of Palacios, and Cindy and Doug Reese of Kerrville, Tx.; grandchildren James, Tanya, William, Gene, Jessica and Haley; and brothers James Teutsch of Beaumont, Tx. and Charles Teutsch of Bay City, Tx. Mrs. Wingate was born May 9, 1940 in Giddings, Texas to Charles and Irene Martha Daniels Redkey. She died Jan. 15, 2006. She had been a resident of Palacios since 1967. She is survived by three daughters, Ana Wingate of Hewitt, TX, Autumn Brand and Melissa Hart both of Lake Jackson; one brother, Malcomb Redkey of Austin; and six grandchildren. Funeral services for Rafel H. Alderete, 64, of Palacios, were held Dec. 24, 2005 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Alderete was born Oct. 25, 1941 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Aurelio R. and Francesca Herrera Alderete. He died Dec. 23, 2005 at Citizen Memorial Hospital in Victoria, Tx. He was a resident of Palacios since 1951, a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and was the maintenance man for the Luther Hotel in Palacios. He is survived by his wife, Anita Adame Alderete of Palacios; son and daughter-in-law Jessie and Josie Adame of Angleton, Tx.; sisters and brothers-in-law Lina and Paul Gamino of Lake Jackson, Tx., Lola and Edward Vallejo of Rosenberg, Tx., Eva Alderete and Rosemary Alderete, both of Palacios; and grandchildren Jessica and Gabriel Adame of Angleton, Tx. He was proceeded in death by his sister, Anita Alderete, and brothers Aurelio Alderete, Jr. and George Alderete. BONNIE JEAN McCLARY TAYLOR
Bonnie Jean McClary Taylor, 52, of Austin, Texas passed from this earth into the arms of God on Jan. 7, 2006 free of her suffering after a prolonged struggle with endocrine carcinoma (cancer). Bonnie was born in El Campo, Tx. on Aug.t 25, 1953. She graduated from Victoria High School in 1971 and earned her degree in nursing from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi in 1974. For thirty years Bonnie demonstrated her caring and serving nature as a Registered Nurse. Her love for the Lord and for her family was evident to all who knew her well. Bonnie's friends will remember her for her encouraging words and spirit. She was devoted to her family and to her many brothers and sisters who shared her faith at Westover Hills Church of Christ. Though Bonnie was a precious sister to many who will miss her smiling face, she leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to touch the lives of others through those of us who knew her. Bonnie leaves behind her husband of 21 years, Doug Taylor, and is survived by her two sons, Wyatt and Mason, her parents, Homer and Rosemarie McClary, and brother, John McClary all of Austin, Tx. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staffs of Austin Heart, Lone Star Oncology, St. David's Hospital and Hospice Austin who were all so loving and supportive of Bonnie and her family during her illness. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Moody was born Aug. 29, 1955 in Palacios to Houston Lemley and Aline Broussard Bickham. She died Dec. 29, 2005 at Kindred Bay Area Hospital in Pasadena, Tx. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, a resident of Lake Jackson the past two years and a former longtime resident of Palacios. She was a 1973 graduate of Palacios High School, and attended Atlantic City Community College. Funeral services for Manuel de Jesus Tobias, 75, of Palacios, were held Dec. 31, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios. Burial was at Palacios cemetery with military honors under the auspices of Veterans of Foreign Wars - Queen Hamlin Post No. 2467. Mr. Tobias was born Nov. 2, 1930, in Olivia, to the late Julio and Maria Rocha Tobias. He died Dec. 27, 2005. He was a retired master plumber, a veteran of Korean War, U.S. Army, Private First Class, Corp. of Engineers/COBAT Engineers, former Matagorda County Constable Pct. No. 3, a member of Trailriders Association, American Legion, Fraternity of Eagles, and the American G.I. Forum. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Martino Tobias; daughter, Mary Bassett of Palacios, sons, Manuel Thomas Tobias and Julio Martin Tobias, both of Houston; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Herman Joseph Landry, 84, of Palacios, were held Dec. 21, 2005 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Sam Appiasi officiating. Mr. Landry was born April 27, 1921 in Abbyville, Louisiana to Anitus and Anita Ledet Landry. He died Dec. 17, 2005. He was a resident of Blessing for 10 years prior to moving to Palacios, a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and a veteran of WWII. A loving and devoted homemaker and mother, Mrs. Lynch grew up in Palacios and received her Associate in Arts degree from Wharton County Junior College in 2001.
