Funeral services for Beulah Leora Carrick, 93, of Texas City, Tx. were held Nov. 23, 2005, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing, Tx. Mrs. Carrick was born Aug. 13, 1912 in Broaddus, Tx. She died Nov. 19, 2005 in Houston, Tx. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mainland Church of Christ in Texas City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman R. Carrick; brothers Littleton Harvey and Early Harvey; sisters Olga Sawyer and Marceline Mull; nephew Leonard Harvey; and niece Jackie Lynn Backus. Mrs. Carrick is survived by her brother, Ramon Harvey and his wife, Alice; nephews Chris Harvey and wife, Traci, Damon Harvey and wife, Veronica, Robin Harvey and Dean Harvey; sister-in-law, Johnnie Lee Harvey; nieces and nephews, Dennis Harvey, Laura Marie Clayburn, Rosemary Williams, James Ray Harvey, Glen Eddie Harvey, Wendy Lou Spiegel, and Johnny Earl Harvey. GABRIEL ANTONIO VELASCO PEREZ
Funeral services for Gabriel Antonio Velasco Perez, 29, of Palacios, were held Nov. 18, 2005 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Burial wasl at Tequexquitla Municipal Cemeterio in Carmen Tequexquitla Tlaxcala Oaxaca, Mexico. Mr. Perez was born Aug. 18, 1976, in Santo Domingo Teoxlomulco Sola De Vega, Oaxaca, Mexico to Telesforo Antonio and Maria Velasco Perez. He died Nov. 13, 2005. He was a painter and sandblaster for Palacios Shipyard, Inc. and a Catholic. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Reyna Antonio Velasco, Santo Domingo Teoxlomulco Sola De Vega, Oaxaca, Mexico; brothers, Hulfrano Antonio Velasco and Luciano Antonio Velasco, both of Santo Domingo Teoxlomulco Sola De Vega, Oaxaca, Mexico. JAMES ROBERT WILSON, SR.
Funeral services for James Robert Wilson, Sr., 79 of Palacios, were held Nov. 14, 2005 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Wilson officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Wilson was born March 28, 1929 in Calvert, TX to Theodore William Wilson and Naoma McNeally Wilson. He died Nov. 11, 2005. He was a long time resident of Palacios and Victoria and a member of the Nazarene Chuch. A 38-year law enforcement veteran, he retired as Chief of Police of the City of Palacios Police Dept in Aug. 1985 after having held that position for 11 years. He had previously been with the Matagorda County Sheriff's Dept. for 10 years. He had also operated Wilson's Grocery Store in Palacios. He is survived by his wife, Alma Jo Tippett Wilson of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law Pam and Garry Seaman of Palacios, and Ruth and Ray Dody of Austin; brothers Tom and Eugene Wilson of Victoria; and grandchildren James Seaman, Garry Seaman, Jr. and Michelle Janise Atkinson. EPITACIO "TACHO" LANDEROS
Funeral mass for Epitacio "Tacho" Landeros, 62, of Palacios, were held Nov. 8, 2005 at St. Anthony dePadua Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment will follow attttt Palacios cemetery. Mr. Landeros was born July 9, 1943 at Torreon, Coah., Mexico to the late Manual and Virginia Cervantes Landeros. He died Nov. 6, 2005. A Catholic, he was employed by Ace Hardware. Survivors include the widow, Pola Gatica Landeros; step-daughters, Betty Sampogna, Minnie Rival, Eva Rivas Luna, Emma Garcia, all of Palacios; and Esther Rivas and Janie Rivas, both of Houston; step-son Daniel Rivas of Palacios and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Alice Rivas, and a step-son, Adam Rivas. Pallbearers are Ephran Longoria, Gabriel Longoria, Martin Suniga, Sid Lopez, Oscar Garcia and Hector Ramos. Artero Memorial Chapels of Port Lavaca was in charge of arrangements.
MARY VIRGINIA DISMUKES
Graveside services for Mary Virginia Dismukes 85, of Palacios, were hled Nov. 7, 2005 at the Palacios cemetery with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Miss Dismukes was born Dec. 22, 1919 in Palacios to the late James and Rosalee Liedorff Dismukes. She died Nov. 4, 2005 at her residence. Miss Dismukes was a life long resident of Palacios, a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, and a member of the Catholic Daughters. She was a former longtime employee of the Palacios Beacon and then served as secretary for the Matagorda County Pct. 3 Commissioner's office for many years. ODESSA M. HUNT
Funeral services for Odessa M. Hunt, 81, of Bay City, were held Oct. 12, 2005 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Chester Sassman officating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Hunt was born Oct. 18, 1923 in Jamestown, TX to the late James Knox and Nellie Gray Moore. She died Oct. 9, 2005 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. Mrs. Hunt was a resident of Bay City the past five years and a former 50 year resident of Palacios. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church of Palacios. She is survived by daughters Mary Gregory of Grandbury, Tx., Eva Crenshaw and Linda Baker both of Bay City, Tx.; son John Wesley Hunt of Edna, Tx.; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William W. Hunt; sisters Aliene Morgan and Dolly Gaspard; and brothers Loy, Marcus, and Raleigh Moore. Graveside funeral services for David Gail Stonestreet, Sr., 74, of Blessing, were held Oct. 13, 2005 at Hawley cemetery near Blessing. Mr. Stonestreet was born Dec. 21, 1930 in Abbyville, KS to David and Ellen Copenhaven Stonestreet. He died Oct. 10, 2005 in Victoria, Tx. He was a resident of Matagorda County for the past 21 years, a U. S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electricians Local #716 of Houston, and a retired industrial electrician. He is survived by his wife, Martha Waites Stonestreet of Blessing; son David Gail Stonestreet, Jr. and wife Colby of Blessing; and grandson Drake Lee Stonestreet of Blessing. JACKSON BEAUMONT CORGEY
Memorial services for Jackson Beaumont Corgey, 77, of Palacios, were held Oct. 14, 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Rev. James Collins officiating. Mr. Corgey was born Jan. 30, 1928 in Houston, TX to the late William Corgey and Hilda Beaumont Corgey. He died Oct. 9, 2005 in Houston. He was a resident of Palacios since 1990, a member of the First Baptist Church of Palacios and was retired from Analog of Tyler, TX. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and Korea. He is survived by his wife Virginia Corgey of Palacios; daughters Kimble Coleen Luman of Round Rock, Tx. and Alexa Grace Hinds and husband Martin of Pflugerville, Tx.; son, William Burtis Corgey of Austin; sisters Dayna Claire Adair of Beeville, Tx. and Sophia "Tootsie" Schulze of Granite Shoals, Tx.; grandchildren Jordan and Jarah Luman, Sara and Jackson Corgey, and Kolyma and Abbi Hinds; and great-grandchild Novaly Luman. Funeral services for Alta Savage Cox, 84, of Carthage, Tx. were held. Oct. 10, 2005 at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. W.C. "Bill" Everett officiating. Graveside services were held Oct. 11 at Palacios cemetery. Mrs.Cox was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Yokum. She died Oct. 8, 2005 in Longview, Tx. She and her husband owned and operated a shrimp boat in Palacios for many years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and loved to sew, quilt, and play "88, " although her greatest joy came from serving others. Survivors include her sister, Emmabel Goolsby.
DOROTHY MAE BREWER
Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Brewer, 73, of Palacios, were held Oct. 7, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. Bob Hairston officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery near Blessing. Mrs. Brewer was born March 9, 1932 in Giddings, Tx. to the late Charles and Irene Martha Daniels Redkey. She died Oct. 3, 2005 at her residence. She had been a resident of Palacios since 1967 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Giddings. She is survived by her husband, John H. Brewer of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law Martha Wootan and Robert McEntire of Palacios, and Tina Brewer and Brent Matura of Bay City; sons and daughters-in-law Lynyard and Marty Wootan of Kilgore, Tx., David and Elsa Wootan of Richland, WA, Jeffrey Wootan of Houston, and Gina and John H. Brewer II of Palacios; sister Ruth Wingate of Palacios; brother Malcomb Redkey of Austin; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Pierce. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Oakland cemetery in Navasota, Tx. Mrs. Haas was born Sept. 15, 1912 in Union Town, Alabama to Gordon Cunningham and Weir Lessie Cunningham. She died Oct. 2, 2005 at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City. She had been a resident of Bay City for 10 years and was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Norma and George L. Parsley of Palacios; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Josephine Wallis of New Iberia, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Nancy Crawford and husband, Lonnie of Fairfield, Ohio, Virginia Sanders and husband, Perry of Boerne, Texas, Charlene Garcia and husband, Joe of Bay City, George Parsley, Jr of Austin, and Linda McGill and husband, John of Hearne, Texas; and by four great grandchildren. Mr. Claxton was born June 29, 1957 in Walnut Ridge, AR to Mary Sue Claxton and the late Lowell Claxton. He died Oct. 2, 2005. He is survived by his mother, Mary Sue Claxton; a sister, Brenda Claxton of Houston; and three brothers, Donny Claxton of Corpus Christi, Michael Claxton, and Chris Claxton, both of Bay City.
