Funeral services for Jessie Buller, 96 of Palacios, were held May 29, 2005 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Blair officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mrs. Buller was born January 12, 1909 to Thomas and Eva Parsutt in Palacios, TX. She died May 25, 2005.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Buller Hiler; one brother, Steve Parsutt of Matagorda, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Buller, in 1981.

SYLVIA STRINGHAM DORRIES
Funeral services for Sylvia Stringham Dorries, 66, of Palacios, were held May 21, 2005 at Church of Christ in Point Comfort, with Bob Davis officiating.
Mrs. Dorries was born Jan. 6, 1939, in Palacios, to the late Wallace and Rosely Kathrine LeCompte Stringham. She died May 17, 2005.
She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ in Point Comfort.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Dorries Sr of Palacios; daughters Kay Bruce of San Antonio and Joanne Dorries of Palacios; son Billie Dorries of San Antonio; sisters Carolyn Kelley of Markham and Marie Smith of Port Lavaca; three grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Wallace Stringham Jr.
EDWARD FRANK VAVRA, SR.
Funeral services for Edward “Eddie” Frank Vavra, Sr., 84, of Bay City, were held May 20, 2005 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Sam Appiasi officiating. Interment was at St. Peter's Catholic cemetery.
Mr. Vavra was born March 28, 1921 in Caldwell, TX to the late Frank John and Johanna Popek Vavra. He died May 17, 2005 at the Legacy in Bay City.
He was a resident of Bay City the past 6 years and a former longtime resident of the Ashby - El Maton area. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing, and a retired farmer. He also was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army and was a recipient of The Bronze Star, Purple Heart, WW II Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, and the EAME Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars representing the Normandy Invasion, Northern France and Central European Campaigns, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Mary Jo & Donnie Harvey of Palacios, Yvonne and Cody Royston of Sweeny, Juanita and Steve Schweizer of Simpsonville, SC; two sons and daughters-in-law: Edward Frank and Susie Vavra, Jr of Palacios, and Dwight and Nancy Vavra of Markham; sisters Gardina Belcher and Betty Blackwell both of Bay City, and Alma McKissick of Ashby Community; 13 grandchildren: Amy Orsak and husband Russell of Richmond, Alyson Vavra of Bay City, Bryan Vavra of Houston, Donna Schulman and husband Alan of Ackworth, GA, Karen Taylor and husband Robert of Alvin, Capt. Michael Harvey and wife Cassie of Germany, David Harvey of Ackworth, GA, Jonathan Vavra of Markham, Andrea Gonzales of West Columbia, Vanessa Morales and husband Chris of Houston, Matthew Baird of Lake Jackson, and Justin and Tyler Schweizer both of Simpsonville, SC.
He was preceded in death by his wife Louise Vavra and brothers: Franklin and Milton Vavra.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons Bryan and Jonathan Vavra, Michael and David Harvey, Justin and Tyler Schweizer, and Matthew Baird.

ZORA OUTLAW HAMMOND
Zora Outlaw Hammond, 94, formerly of Palacios, passed away May 1, 2005. Funeral services were held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, Victoria with the Rev. Donald Tharp officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetary in Victoria.
She was born April 21, 1911 in San Gabriel, Tx. to the late Elmer A. and Zora Barclay Outlaw. She was member of the First Christian Church. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in Palacios.
She is sruvived by daughter, Wanda Mason Gerlicch of Victoria; son, Leonard Hammond and wife, Lily of Athens, Georgia; grandchildren, Laura Gerlich Flanagan and husband Kelly of Victoria; Erica Hammond of Maui, Hawaii; Stephen Gerlich of Marble Falls; great grandchildren, Adrienne Clayton-Grandfield and husband Paul of Austin; Tara Flanagan and Dane Flanagan of Victoria; and numberous nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; husband, William C. Hammond; sister, Mona Johnson and Ursula Thomason; brothers, Nigel Outlaw, Opa Outlaw, William Outlaw, Robert Outlaw and Elmer Outlaw; and son-in-law Daniel Gerlich.
Pallbearers were Laura Gerlich Flanagan, Stephen C. Gerlich, Erica C. Hammond, Leanne Clayton-Grandfield, Jordan Dane Flanagan and James Kelly Flanagan. Honorary pallbearer was Tara kathleen Flanagan.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, Victoria or Hospice of South Texas.
EVERARDO O. GUERRERO
A Rosary for Everado O. Guerrero will held at 7 p.m. Tuesday (May 17) at at Casa De Dios Church. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Casa De Dios Church in Palacios with Pastor Cordero officiating.
Interment will be at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Guerrero was born Aug. 2, 1953 in Mendez, Mexico to the late Jose and Ramona Guerrero. He died May 13, 2005.
Mr. Guerrero was a carpenter for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalinda Guerrero; daughter Velma E. Sanchez and husband Andrew of Palacios; sons Ramon Guerrero and wife Angelica of Palacios, Damian Sr. Guerrero and wife Christella of Edinburg, Tx., Jose Guerrero and wife Cynthia of Bay City, Tx. and Octavio Guerrero and wife Michelle of Bay City, Tx.; sisters Petra Espinoza and Alvarita Hernandez; brother Damaso Guerrero, and 20 grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by brothers Jose Guerrero and Juan A. Guerrero.
JIMMIE JOHN RIVERA
Funeral services for Jimmie John Rivera, 29, of Palacios, were held May 16, 2005 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in Palacios with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery.
Mr. Rivera was born July 29, 1975 in Bay City, Tx. to Arturo Sr. and Rosie Garcia Rivera. He died May 10, 2005.
He was a member of the Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by sisters Carmen Rivera, Cindy Rubio, Tammy Gonzales and Dora Rivera all of Palacios, and Susie Barajas of Los Angeles; and brothers Arthur Rivera III, Eddie Rivera and Michael Rivera, all of Palacios.
CAROLE JOYCE MAHNKE
Funeral services for Carole Joyce Mahnke, 60, of Cape Carancahua (Palacios) and formerly of Brenham, Tx. were held May 13, 2005 at First Baptist Church in Brenham with Rev. Troy Sikes and Rev. Robert LeBlanc officiated. Interment followed in Prairie Lea cemetery.
She passed away May 4, 2005, together with her husband David, while vacationing in Costa Rica.
Carole was born May 12, 1944 to Milton and Minnie J. (Schulz) Hemke in Milwaukee, Wis. and was a graduate of Muskego High School in Muskego, Wis. On Aug. 10, 1963 she was united in marriage to David M. Mahnke by Pastor Jeske in Milwaukee, Wis. She was a homemaker, a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Palacios and a volunteer for Pets for Pals in Palacios.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Doreen Marie and David Hughes of Brenham, Darlene Michelle and Eric Stone of Clermont, Fla. and Denise Melanie and Joel Romo of Round Rock; son, David Michael “Mike” Mahnke of Tennessee Colony; grandchildren, Dylan and Dawson Hughes, Emily Stone and Robert, Johnson and Andrew Mueller; brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bob” Hemke and Judy of Milwaukee, Wis.; aunt and her husband, Jo Roth Jake of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., uncles, Harless Feagins of Traverse City, Michigan, Bill Hemke of Milwaukee, Wis.; nephews Alex and Mathew Hemke; cousin and her husband, Susie Feagins and Jim of Traverse City, Mich. and numerous other cousins.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Minnie Hemke; and aunt, Audrey Feagins.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Wielgosh, Bob Hemke, Harold Sprawls, Alex Hemke, Jimmy Duff, Gary MacWilliams, Don Nimmer Sr., Don Nimmer Jr. and Matt Hemke. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and all of the family and friends.
