BEVERLY JOY HUDDLESTON
Graveside services for Beverly Huddleston, 68, of Athens, Texas and formerly of Palacios were held Aug. 3, 2004. She was born July 20, 1936 to the late Chris and Opal McConnell and died at her residence on Saturday, July 31. Beverly worked as an X-ray technician, and was a loving mother and grandmother. She worked at Wagner General Hospital in Palacios from 1979-1991 when she retired and moved to Athens. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Twila and Wayne Kirksey of Athens; sons and daughter-in-law Alan Huddleston of Georgetown, Chad and Jana Huddleston of Blessing; grandchildren Brandon, Bryan and Brooke Kirksey of Athens, Holly and Ashley Huddleston of Georgetown, and Gracie and Grant Huddleston of Blessing. She left behind some wonderful friends in Palacios.
CLIFFORD HENRY ELLIOTT
Funeral services for Clifford Henry Elliott, 63, of Austin and formerly of Palacios, were held July 28, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. Steve Tompkins officiating. Interment will be at Hawley cemetery. Mr. Elliott was born Nov. 2, 1940 in Bay City to Edith Herreth and Henry Elliott. He died July 24, 2004 at his residence in Austin. He was a former mayor and city councilman in Palacios. He served on the city council from 1971 to June 1977 when he was appointed Mayor to fill the unexpired term of W. C. Jackson who retired. He was elected to a full two-year term in 1978. He moved to Austin in 1989 to establish Austin Seafood Products. He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Collins Elliott, of Austin; daughters Michele Rojas and husband Edward, of Austin, Tracy Curtis and husband Steve of Austin, and April McCoy of Palacios; a son, Edmond Latapie of Palacios; his mother, Edith Elliott of Bay City; a sister, Edith Allen of Bay City; brothers Marvin Elliott of Markham and Donald Elliott of Roscoe, Illinois; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Elliott. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are Manuel Nicosia, Sam Hurta, Donald Elliott, Tony Kana, Edmond Latapie, Edward Rojas, Steven Curtis, Tony Nicosia, Chris Nicosia, Jeff Nicosia and Marvin Elliott. HALON RUTH BRIDWELL LANDRY
Funeral services for Halon Ruth Bridwell Landry, 80, of Blessing, were held July 10, 2004 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Rev. Steve Tompkins officiating. Mrs. Landry was born Dec. 20, 1923 in Center, TX to Frank Bridwell and Bea Loretta Bridwell. She died July 6, 2004. She was a resident of Blessing since 1994 and a member of the First Baptist Church of Palacios. She is survived by her husband, Herman J. Landry of Blessing; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Pat Landry of Palacios; a brother, Joe Lee Bridwell of Wichita Falls; two grandchildren, Shane Landry of College Station and Jodi Landry Matt of Sugarland; and one great-grandchild, Wesley Landry of Palacios. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Bea Bridwell and by her brother, Robert Don Bridwell. Funeral services for Jose Andres Olguin, 50, of Blessing, were held July 9, 2004 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with the Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment was be at St. Peter's Catholic cemetery. Mr. Olguin was born Jan. 5, 1954 in Victoria to the late Andres and Gregoria Martinez Olguin. He died July 7, 2004. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Mr. Olguin is survived by his wife, Eva Martinez Olguin; daughters Corena Caminos of Houston and Marina Kinley of Blessing; stepdaughters Christina Rojas and April Rojas, both of Blessing; sons Israel D. Olguin of San Antonio; stepsons Ricky Rojas of Palacios, Freddie Rojas and Vincent Rojas Jr., both of Blessing; sisters Maria Pena of Sweeny, Juanita Dominguez of Blessing and Maria Enoch of Bay City; brothers Felipe Rodriguez of California, Albert Rodriguez of Placedo, and David Olguin of Blessing; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Rodriguez. Pallbearers were Christopher Olguin, Joseph Olguin, Bartolo Dominguez, Felipe Dominguez, Michael Espericueta and Daniel Rodriguez. Funeral services for Johnnie Mae Lothridge, 83, of Columbus, TX were held June 30, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. Hollas Hoffman officiating. Interment followed at the Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Lothridge was born Aug. 3, 1920 in Broadus, TX to the late Burton B. and Annie Bell Norris Stanley. She died June 27, 2004 at her residence. A resident of Columbus the past three years, she was a former 63 year resident of Palacios. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbus, a former member of First Baptist Church of Palacios and a member of Eastern Star and was Matron several times. She is survived by her husband, Joseph F. Lothridge of Columbus; 2 daughters and one son-in-law, Virginia Valenta of Bay City and Judy and Ronald Hanzik of Aiken, SC; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Debbie Lothridge of Columbus; 7 grandchildren, Brad Mann, Lauren Mann, Denise Valenta, Valerie Henson, Vanessa McFadin, Matt Torregrossa and Ricky Bateman; and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her sister, Beulah Fox and 2 brothers, C.B. Stanley and W. H. Stanley. Pallbearers were Fred Law, Fred Huitt, Dan Tucker, Tommy Beard, Chipper Holt and Arthur Kollmann. ROBERT M. STONEDALE
Private family services for Robert M. Stonedale, 80, of Palacios, were held July 7, 2004. Mr. Stonedale was born March 26, 1924. He died July 1, 2004 at his home in Palacios. He had been a Houston writer and businessman from 1948 until 1987 and a Palacios horticulturist since 1987. He was the author of Report From the Confederacy published 1961-1965, and a veteran World War II. He is survived by his beloved wife, Annette K. Stonedale of Palacios; sons, Dr. Roderick D. J. Stonedale and Anthony W. Stonedale; daughters Dr. Felicia A.N. Stonedale and Kimberly A. Stonedale, daughter-in-law Dr. Judi S. Stonedale; grand-children Christopher R.R. Stonedale and Joel P. N. ROBERT ALLEN KAY
Funeral services for Robert Allen Kay, 62, of Palacios, were held July 1, 2004 at Brookside Funeral Home Chapel in Houston with the Rev. Ronnie Fox officiating. Interment was in Brookside Memorial Park cemetery. Mr. Kay was born March 10, 1942 in San Antonio to Bennie Lee Kay, Sr. and Nancy Ballard Brady Kay. He died June 28, 2004. He served four years in the United States Navy. Mr. Kay was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothy Lee Kay. Survivors include his partner, Connie Hobbs of Palacios; daughter, Darla Jean Kay Colvin of Willis, TX; son, Robert Allen Kay, Jr. of San Antonio; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Jimmy Neely of Palacios; brother, Bennie Lee Kay, Jr. of Houston; nephew, Chris Roy of Georgetown, TX; and nieces, Suzette Evans and Angela Heard of Brenham, TX.

Mrs. Saha was born July 7, 1907, in Frydek, Austin County, to the late John and Julia Pavlicek Hickl Sr. She died June 22, 2004. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She is survived by a daughter, Ella Bucek Stanley of Victoria; sons, Gilbert Saha of Bay City, Alvin Saha of Angleton, Louis Saha of El Maton and Dennis Saha of Sugar Land; brothers, Joe Hickl and Lawrence Hickl, both of El Maton, and Jessie Hickl of Bay City; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: husband, Louis P. Saha; daughter, Evelyn Willis; sister, Annie Holub; and brothers, William Hickl, August Hickl, Louis Hickl, Edward Hickl and John Hickl.

Mrs. Sanders was born May 22, 1934, in Rockport, to the late Alfred Homer and Essie Ogsta Stoud Hardin. She died June 21, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Frank Sanders; daughter, Sharon Daricek of Palacios; sisters, Mary Laws of Duncan, Okla., and Betty Nowlain of Coleman; brothers, Leo Hardin of Victoria and Alton McGary of San Angelo; and seven grandchildren. MARY LOVE GRIFFIN
Funeral services for Mary Love Griffin, 89, of Palacios, were held June 21, 2004 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ray Wells and Charlie Parker officiating. Interment was June 23, at Gouldbusk cemetery in Coleman, Tx. with the Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating. Mrs. Griffin was born Nov. 14, 1914 in Gouldbusk, Coleman County, Tx. to the late LaRoy Hunton and Effie Elizabeth Thweatt Griffith. She died June 18, 2004 at DeTar Hospital in Victoria. A resident of Palacios since 1949, she was a retired teacher from Palacios ISD with 30 years service and was a member of the DAR Texas Chapter No. 6-124, the Athena Club, Palacios Area Historical Association and Matagorda County Historical Society. She was a member and librarian of the First United Methodist Church and was a docent for the Palacios Historical Museum. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Clara Griffin and Larry and Marjorie Griffin, both of Palacios; a sister, Emma Nell "Sing" Downey of Coleman; grandchildren Christopher and wife Jamie of Austin, Nicholas Griffin stationed on the USS Carl Vinson in Bremerton, WA, Charless Ross of San Francisco, and Terri Ross of North Dakota; and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fabrian Alva Griffin. Memorials may be made to the Palacios Area Historical Association or the Palacios Historical Museum. MARY LOU ALCORN
A memorial funeral service for Mary Lou Alcorn, 80, of Palacios, was held June 11, 2004 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Alcorn was born Sept. 15, 1923 in Lake Minnetoka, MN to the late Kenneth Leland and Mildred Gertrude Bohan. She died June 4, 2004 at the Palacios Community Medical Center. She was a resident of the Palacios area since 1972 and a former longtime resident of Corpus Christi. She was also a member of Eagles Aerie #3821 of Palacios. She is survived by her husband, Sam J. "Al" Alcorn of Palacios; son and daughter-in-law Kenny and Dahlia Richards of Victoria; stepsons and daughters-in-law Sam and Barbara Alcorn of Rockport, Tx., and Billy and Jackie Alcorn of Leesburg, GA; stepmother Bernice Rohan of Wisconsin; and five stepchildren.
