COLLEEN T. NATARO
Funeral services for Colleen T. Nataro, 68, of Palacios, were held June 5, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church of Palacios with Pastor Jay Simonsen and Pastor Ray Bowles officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Nataro was born July 9, 1935 in Palacios to the late Patrick Roger and Lorene Tabb Treacy. She died June 2, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, Tx. A resident of Palacios for the past eight years and former longtime resident of Texas City, Mrs. Nataro was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Palacios. She was a manager and officer of Southwestern Barge in Channelview, Tx for many years and for the past eight years she was the resident receptionist for the Palacios Funeral Home. A life member and past president of the Athena Club, Mrs. Nataro was also a board member of the Palacios cemetery Association since 1999 and vice president since December of 2000, a century club member of the Palacios Library and was life member of The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 649 of Palacios. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Treacy Lynn and Earl Pattillo of Edna, Tx; two sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Phyllis McHaney of Rosenberg, Tx and Pat McHaney of Cleveland, Tx; a sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Clyde Cook of Nederland, Tx; five grandchildren, Brandon McHaney of Houston, Tx, Roger and John Harvey both of Austin, Tx, Rhiannon McHaney of Tarkington, Tx and Patricia McHaney of Cleveland, Tx; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George McHaney, and by her second husband, Louis Nataro. Pallbearers were Homer Aparicio, Carl Sexton, Raymond Mitchell, David Walker, Robert Starkey and Charles Harvey. Honorary Pallbearer was James Kruse.
DONNA FAYE BARFIELD NEWSOM
Funeral services for Donna Faye Barfield Newsom, 70, of Palacios and formerly of Cuero, were held June 5, 2004 at Calvary Baptist Church in Cuero with Rev. Bill Gleason officiating. Interment was at Hillside cemetery in Cuero. Mrs. Newsom was born Oct. 9, 1933 in Cuero to the late Willis and Nola Helms Barfield. She died June 2, 2004. She married
James F. Newsom in Cuero on Aug. 25, 1951. She taught school in Cuero ISD for 11 years. She was owner/operator of The Wharf at Schicke Point on Carancahua Bay. She was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Cuero. She is survived by her husband, James Newsom, of Palacios; son and daughter-in-law Wade and Shelley Newsom; daughters and sons-in-law Rachel and Henry Sheppard of Victoria, and Becky Newsom and husband Scott Madison of Hoboken, N.J.; and grandchildren Justin Sheppard and Randy Newsom. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Willis Breeden Sheppard; and half-sisters Audrey Blackwell and Dick Bishop. OLIVIA F. RIPKE
A Rosary for Olivia F. Ripke, 85, of Palacios, was held May 30, 2004 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass was held May 31 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Ripke was born January 19, 1919 in Palacios to the late Olivo and Mary Soto Flores. She died May 27, 2004. Olivia was a life long resident of Palacios, a member of the Catholic Daughters, and the VFW Ladies Aux. Post 2467. Ê She is survived by a daughter Mary L. Fernandez of Palacios; son Phillip D. Ripke of Palacios; half sister Eva LaBorde of Palacios; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence "Shine" Ripke, Sr., son Clarence "Brother" Ripke, Jr., and parents Olivo and Mary Soto Flores. Arrangements are with Palacios Funeral Home.
NORRIS R. CRAWFORD
Funeral services for Norris R. Crawford, 62, of Houston, were held May 26, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios with Mike Simpson officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Crawford was born March 14, 1942 in El Campo, Tx. to the late Carlton Wesley and Mary Louise Pybus Crawford. He died May 21, 2004 at West Houston Medical Center in Houston. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church of Houston, a resident of Houston since 1963, and was in the mortgage banking business for the past 34 years. He is survived by his wife, Doris Crawford, of Houston; daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Robbie Fuller; and granddaughter Emily Fuller, all of Georgetown, Tx. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Carlton Simpson; and brothers John Lacy Crawford and Jack Wesley Crawford. Pallbearers were Edward Pennington, Marvin "Buddy" Kastrop, Dick Kubecka, Kenneth Cook, Terry Oglesby and Larry Taylor.
JOHNNIE E. BARNETT
Funeral services for Johnnie E. Barnett, 84, of Palacios, were held May 14, 2004 at the Palacios Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Steve Tompkins officiating. Interment followed at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Barnett was born March 16, 1920, in Markham to the late Harvey E. and Selma Zimmerman Johnson. She died May 12, 2004 at Tomball Regional Hospital in Tomball, Tx. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Palacios and Fraternal of Eagles Aerie 3821. For many years, she along with her husband, Price, owned and operated the Barnett Lumber Yard in Palacios. Survivors include two daughters, Jeannette Strahan of Livingston, Tx., and Susan Furman and husband of Austin; a son, John R. Barnett III and wife Judy of Rosenberg, Tx.; a sister, Fern Feather and husband Ed of East Bernard, Tx.; grandchildren Brittney M. Barnett, Randy Oglesby, Cindy Schild and husband Dwight, Jay Furman and wife Amy, and Jason Furman; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Lottie Zimmerman of Rosenberg. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harley Davidson Allen; second husband, Price M. Barnett; and a daughter, Jean Carol Allen. Pallbearers were Dwight, Harley and Braxton Schild, Brandon Beardsley, Buster Zimmerman, Rusty Feather, Mike Hunt and Bill Bullock.
EDWARD L. WOOD
A memorial service for Edward L. "Eddie" Wood, 76, of Port Alto and formerly of El Campo, was held May 15, 2004 at Danevang Lutheran Church, the Rev. Don Storey officiating. Mr. Wood was born May 18, 1927, in Camby, Ore., to the late Arabella Jay Goebel Stanford. He died May 5, 2004. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and also served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a retired supervisor at Danevang Farmers Co-op and manager/owner of Wood Bowl in El Campo. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Gann Wood; daughter, Rosemary McKelvy of Danevang; son, Jesse "Skeeter" Wood of El Campo; sister, Vivian Schauer of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Steele.
STELLA MAE RINKS MOSIER
Funeral services for Stella Mae Rinks Mosier, 95, of Palacios, were held May 3, 2004 at the Palacios Funeral Home with William Borzik officiating. Interment was at the Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Mosier was born Feb. 12, 1909 in Ferris, Tx. to Elisha and Bessie Burns Rinks. She died April 30, 2004 in Bay City. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph E. Mosier. She was a member of the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Survivors include sons and their wives, Rudolph E. Mosier, Jr. and Mary of Palacios, Donald R. Mosier and Wray Nell of Corpus Christi, and Johnnie E. Mosier of Houston; brother, John Rinks and wife, Marie, of San Antonio; sister-in-law Anna Cartwright of Palacios; brother-in-law August Mosier of Fulton; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Joe Rocha, Mark Mazoch, Larry Goodall, Herbie Gonzales, Bobby Cook, and Gene Hernandez. Arrangements were with the Palacios Funeral Home.
O. B. THOMPSON
Funeral services for O. B. Thompson, 76, of Palacios, were held April 27, 2004 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Story officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery. Mr. Thompson was born July 8, 1927 in Elgin, Bastrop County, Tx. to the late Richard Nelson and Margaret Elizabeth Daniel Thompson. He died April 24, 2004. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he retired Feb. 1, 1983 as unit supervisor for Alcoa Aluminum after 27 years. A resident of Palacios since 1938, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Benita Louise Blackburn Thompson; and sisters Hazel Hominick of Corpus Christi, Dorothy Hamlin and Nellie Rockenbaugh, both of Palacios, and Ann Rogers of Hobbs, N.M. He was preceded in death by brothers Fulton Richard Thompson, Gilford Thompson, Russell Thompson and Nelson Thompson. Pallbearers were Kenneth Hamlin, John Smith, Bobby and Ricky Zemanek, Rusty and Phillip Thompson, and Benjamin Blackburn. Funeral services for Frieda Herta Neus, 92, of Lake Jackson, were held April 28, 2004 at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Angleton with Rev. Ronald Semro officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing. Mrs. Neux was born May 13, 1911 in Greifswald, Germany to the late Johannes and Berta Karoline Dorothea Groesch Matelski. She died April 26, 2004 at the Plantation Health Care Center in Lake Jackson. She was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church and was a resident of Angleton since December 1999. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Monika and Charles Forrest of Angleton; grandsons Lynn and Andy Forrest of Brazoria; and great-grandchildren Abby, Katy and Randall of Brazoria. Funeral services for Richard R. Constancio, 77, who died April 5, 2004 were held in Long Beach, CA. Mr. Constancio was born Feb. 11, 1927 in Del Rio, TX to Petra Reyes and the late Trinidad B. Constancio II. He is survived by his mother; his wife, Lupe Constancio of Long Beach, CA; one daughter, Diana Constancio of Long Beach, CA; one son, David Constancio of Phoenix, AZ; three sisters, Rebecca C. Ottino of Palacios, Elida C. Valdez of San Jose, CA and Rosie C. Sanchez of Dallas; four brothers, Ray Constancio of Stockton, CA, Edward (Eddie) Constancio, Trinidad Constancio III and Jessie Constancio, all of Palacios; and several nieces and nephews.
BERNARD V. APARICIO
Funeral services for Bernard V. Aparicio, 78, of Palacios, were held April 19, 2004 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Mike Buentello, Rev. Dan Morales, and Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at the Palacios cemetery. Mr. Aparicio was born May 10, 1925 in Zapata, TX to the late Isaac and Manuela Aparicio. He died April 16, 2004 A resident of Palacios since 1930, he was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. He spent most of his life as a Captain working in the shrimping industry. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie Cantu of San Antonio and Carolyn and Raul Villarreal of Palacios; sisters, Isabel Garcia of San Antonio, Mary Silva of Port Lavaca, Rosie Aparicio, Antonia Garcia, Andrea and husband Pas Morales, and Francis and husband Luis Buentello, all of Palacios; one brother, Pete Aparicio and his wife Lilly of Victoria; grandchildren, Larry Perez of Austin, Eric Cantu and wife Emelda of Corpus Christi, George Cantu of San Antonio, Dustin Villarreal of Palacios, and Desiree Villarreal of Austin; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie G. Aparicio; his brother, Homer Aparicio, and his sister Janie A. Gonzalez.
