JOSEPH RESAS GARCIA
A prayer service for Joseph Resas Garcia, 58, of Palacios, was held March 5, 2004 at the Chapel of Dulany Funeral Home in Eagle Lake, Tx. with Rev. Eddie Winkler of the Parish of the Nativity in Eagle Lake officiating. His family will assemble for memorial services and committal at a later date in Palacios. Mr. Garcia was born April 8, 1945 in Pearland, Tx. to Joseph Resas and Matilde Isabel Cardenas Garcia, Sr. ÊHe died March 2, 2004 at the Palacios Community Medical Center in Palacios following a sudden illness. Mr. Garcia attended Eagle Lake High School and led a career as a welder with Brown and Root Construction. He had been married
to Ninfa Sylvia Garcia since Aug. 23, 1983. He is survived by his wife, Ninfa Garcia, Palacios; daughters Elva Yvonne Mindieta of Eagle Lake, Lisa Ann Carmona and husband, Jeff, of Katy, Tx., Matilde Garcia and husband, Robert Rodriguez, and Sylvia Angelica Garcia and husband, Pedro Torres, all of Rosenberg; sons Joseph Louis Garcia of Rosenberg, Jamiel David Garcia and wife, Linda LeBlanc, of El Campo, Tx., and Jason Louis Garcia and wife, Susie, of Rosenberg; sisters Mary Sosa, Cecilia Fernandez and Janie Vasquez, all of Eagle Lake, Adelina Cortez of Rosenberg, and Petra Morales and Freda Kay Morales both of Galveston; brothers Pete Munoz, Louise, Tx., and Louis Morales and Jesse Morales both of Galveston; 21grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Resas and Matilde Isabel Cardenas Garcia, Sr.; first wife Guadalupe Frances Servantes; son Joe Louis Garcia; sister Sarah Sosa; and brothers Johnny and Leonard Morales.
MELBA J. COLE
Graveside services for Melba J. Cole, 76, of Texarkana, Tx. were held March 6, 2004 at Palacios cemetery with Bro. Shan Jackson officiating. Mrs. Cole was born April 28, 1927 in Simms, Tx. She died March 3, 2004 at St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana. A former longtime resident of Palacios, she was a member of the Rorem Street Church of Christ in Palacios. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Jane Cook, and Horace and Mary Jo Cook, both of Texarkana; a sister, Margie Frazier of Tyler, Tx; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, M. P. Cole.
LOUIS GENE EDWARDS
Funeral services for Louis Gene Edwards, 74, of Coalgate, OK, were held March 2, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. A former resident of Palacios, Mr. Edwards was born Sept. 4, 1929 to the late Will and Archie Jane Edwards. He died Feb. 25, 2004. At the age of 17, he joined the First Presbyterian Church of Coalgate, OK. He is survived by two daughters, Dianna Kidd Kinkead (husband Frank) of Katy, TX, and Beverly Kidd McGonigal (husband Kevin) of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; two sons, James Kidd (wife Kay) and Thomas Kidd, of Houston, TX; two brothers, Frank Edwards and Carl Edwards (wife Tommye); four sisters, Sarah Jane Seeley, Mary Purser (husband Glenn), Betty Marie Wiltsie (husband Russell) and Patricia Poindexter (husband Colby); granddaughters, Jennifer Smaddis (husband Gregg), Erin McGonigal both of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Elizabeth Swicegood (husband Kyle) of North Carolina; six grandsons, David Kinkead of Albuquerque, NM, Eric Kinkead, Austin, TX, Jeffrey and Sean McGonigal of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, James Kidd III and Thomas Kidd Jr. of Houston, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 25 years, Cora Kruse Kidd Edwards; and brothers, Jim, Bill, Joe, Hugh and John Edwards.
THOMAS E. RENEAU
Thomas E. Reneau, 66, of San Antonio, was buried with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery in San Antonio on Feb. 14, 2004. His casket was brought to the gravesite by caisson and a riderless horse. A 21-gun salute and taps were also performed and the presentation of the flag to his wife. Mr. Reneau was born July 31, 1937 in Palacios to the late Elmo and Joyce Reneau. He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Sergeant Major after 30 years of service that included two tours in Vietnam as a member of the elite 10th Special Forces Division. He received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Master Parachute Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Parachute Badge, Good Conduct Medal (9 times) and others. Following retirement, he worked for the North Carolina Dept. of Corrections for 10 years, retiring in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Frances, of San Antonio; children David Smith of San Antonio, Judy Smith Williams of North Carolina and Diane Reneau Cripe of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren Christopher Smith, Alexandria Williams, Tyler Williams, Noah Williams, Kristina Cripe and Kaden Cripe; and sisters Glenda Meyer and Susie Gottschalt of Port Lavaca, and Nancy Lemke of Junction, Tx.
HOMER NUNN
Memorial services for Homer Nunn, 59, of Palacios, were held Feb. 28, 2004 at the American Legion Hall in Blessing. Mr. Nunn was born Sept. 18, 1944 in South Charleston, West VA to Lois McCoy Nunn of Sod, W. VA and the late James Nunn. He was a welder. He is survived by his mother; his wife, Suzzane Clement Nunn; two daughters, Kelly Varney and Tracy Arkell of W. VA; one sister, Nancy (Mrs. Robert) Marron of W. VA; and two grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Matthews Funeral Home.
BETTY MEADERS
Funeral services for Betty Meaders, 60, of Houston, were held Feb. 18, 2004 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Farley and Rev. Dan Meaders officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Meaders was born Dec. 18, 1943 in Palacios to Houston L. and Aline Broussard Bickham. She died Feb. 14, 2004. She was a member of Shady Acres Baptist Church in Houston and a reisdent of Houston since 1970. She is survived by her husband, Dan Meaders, of Houston; mother Aline Bickham of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law Kim and Tom Hill of Baton Rouge, La. and Keri and Brandon Wilson of Dallas; son Daniel Meaders of Houston; sisters Maxine Travers of Houston, Lana Moody of Lake Jackson, Debbie Cowan and Diana Moehig both of Bay City; brothers Melvin Bickham of Pascagoula, Miss. and Bobby Bickham of Houston; grandchildren Brandon and Alexis Wilson of Dallas, and Reed and Lindsey Hill of Baton Rouge, La. DOMINGO "MINGO" AGUILAR, SR.
Funeral services for Domingo "Mingo" Aguilar, Sr., 68, of El Campo, were held Feb. 10, 2004 at St. Roberts Catholic Church in El Campo. Interment was in Holy Cross Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mr. Aguilar was born Aug. 11, 1935 in Brownsville to the late Jose and Tomasa Alvarez DeLoSantos. He died Feb. 7, 2004 Having served in the U.S. Army, he retired from Brothers Well Service as a derrickman and was a member of St. Roberts Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Maria Trevino Aguilar; two daughters, Luz-Maria Arredondo and Alberta Falcon, both of El Campo; two sons, Domino Aguilar, Jr. of El Campo and Alexander Aguilar of Wharton; one sister, Ramona Chavez of El Maton; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
DONNIE GEORGE BARKER
Funeral services for Donnie George Barker, 51, of Palacios (Carancahua Community) were held Feb. 13, 2004 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Hollie Brisco officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery in Blessing, Tx. Mr. Barker was born January 28, 1953 in Dayton, Tx. to the late Howard Keith and Oma Sue Fielder Barker. He died at his residence Feb. 10, 2004. He was a resident of the Carancahua Community for the past six years. He is survived by sisters: Susan Jessup and Jeanie Vecra both of Palacios, and Pattie Verdecanna of Bay City; brother Bobby Barker of New Caney, Tx; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his nephew Justin Lee Norman. Pallbearers were Freddy Greer, Kenny Norman, Daniel Jessup, Bobby Rogers, Brad Woodward, and Lynn Eilenfeldt. Honorary pallbearers were Monty Mosley, Robby Curtis, Victor Eggemeyer and Jimmy Porter. Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.
GEORGE MARSH CARTWRIGHT
Funeral services for George Marsh Cartwright, 88, of Palacios, were held Feb. 13, 2004 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lewis Rush officiating. Interment was at the Palacios cemetery. Mr. Cartwright was born November 29, 1915 in New York City, NY to the late John Aylett and Lucy Ellen Lloyd Cartwright. He died Feb. 9, 2004 at Palacios Healthcare Center. He was a member of the Baptist Church, a resident of Palacios since 1953, and a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army. He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Mosier Cartwright of Palacios; daughters Georgeanna Smith of Sugar Land, Tx; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were James, Neil, Charles, and Edwin Mosier, Daniel Campbell and Ted Machicek. Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.
BERNICE CLARDY JONES
Funeral services for Bernice Clardy Jones, 81, of Franklinton, Louisiana, were held Feb. 4, 2004 at Crains Funeral Home in Franklinton, Louisiana. Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 22, 1923 in Palacios to the late Dennis M. and Pearl Sexton Clardy. She passed away Feb. 2, 2004. A member of the First Baptist Church in Franklinton, Mrs. Jones committed her life to her church and her community. She was a gentle, giving lady, a loving wife and mother and a committed Christian. To have known her was to love her and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Truett C. Jones; sister, Mittis Bowers of Palacios; four children, Robert Jones and wife Darlene of Franklinton, Louisiana, Diane Green and husband Bill of Huntsville, Texas, Karen Spears and husband Fred of Franklinton, David Jones and wife Melinda of South Lake, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ruby Irene Clardy and Marie Clardy Barnett.
ARNULFO CASTILLO VILLARREAL
A rosary for Arnulfo Castillo Villarreal, 86, will be held Feb. 3, 2004 at Morales Funeral Home, Houston, Tx. I nternment will be at The Veterans Memorial cemetery in Houston. Mr. Villarreal was born in Charco, Tx. on June 14, 1917. He passed away after a long illness on Feb. 2, 2004 in Houston. Arnulfo was number three of six sons born to David and Guadalupe Villarreal. He was a member of St. Anthony's of Padua Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the VFW. At the age of 25 he was drafted into the Army to serve his country and was a member of 28th Infantry, 8th Division, Company M, where he received his training as a 2nd Class Heavy Machine Gunner. He was wounded in action, and then taken prisoner of war by the Germans. After 21 days he was rescued by U.S. forces and returned to his outfit. Arnulfo's tour of duty took him from Normandy to Northern France, into the Rhineland and through Central Europe. The medals he received during this time included three Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign, American Campaign, American Defense Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon his return home he started his 40 plus years as a commercial shrimper. He is survived by daughters Maria Villarreal-Garza (Michael) of Houston and Eva De Leon (Anthony) of Pearland; two sons, Robert Juarez of Palacios and Ancelmo Juarez, Jr. of New Orleans, La.; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His loving wife Luisa precedes him in death, along with brothers Frank, Armando, Ben, Ruben and David. He leaves us with many fond memories and stories of his life and his hardships that can only make us appreciate the dedication, wisdom and love of this father and teacher. He has touched us all and leaves a deep impression in our hearts and lives because of his love.
