BEATRICE WICKENS RUCKER
A Memorial Service for Beatrice Wickens Rucker, 89, of Glendora, Calif. was held Feb. 4, 2004 at the First Evangelical Methodist Church in Glendora with Reverend Wes Sperl officiating. She was born to Herbert J. and Bertha True Wickens on Aug. 30, 1914 in Electra, Tx. She died Feb. 1, 2004. A former resident of Collegeport, Tx., she lived in Texas until 1981.ool in 1931, she received her B.A. in History from McMurray College in Abilene in 1935 and began a 31 year career in teaching, including three years at East Side Elementary. She married
John W. Rucker in 1939 and spent her life teaching a devoting her time to her husband, children and her grandchildren and loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, John W. Rucker, Jr. of Glendora, CA; daughter Pamela and her husband David Goodhue of Houston; grandsons David L. Swedlow and wife Sharon of Austin, Tx., John E. Rucker and wife Margaret of Santa Maria, CA, Sean W. Scott and wife Michelle of Pearland, Tx., and Michael P. Scott and fiance Jennifer Smerklo of Alhambra, CA; granddaughter Charlotte Scott Taylor of Houston, Tx., and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and brothers Dr. Billy Wickens and Teddy Wickens.
DOROTHY ANN RHEAM ARPIN
Dorothy Ann Rheam Arpin, 53, of Palacios, was born Aug. 4, 1950 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Wilbert Rheam and Janet Stettler Rheam. She died Jan. 29, 2004 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were made with Matthews Funeral Home of Wharton, Texas. She is survived by one daughter, Ana Arpin Staudenraus and husband Clayton of El Mirage, Arizona; two sons, Kimise Arpin and wife Tanya of Ft. Worth and Timinae Arpin and wife Staci of Stephenville; sister Mary Rheam Morgan of Pennsylvania; brothers Tom Rheam of Florida and Bob Rheam of Colorado; grandchildren, Kaleb Staudenraus, Kilanie and Kimberly Arpin and Krystyn Arpin; and by her close friend Donnell Roy of Palacios.
RODERICK W. YOUNG
Funeral services for Roderick W. Young, 41, of Palacios, were held Jan. 31, 2004 at Agape Family Outreach Church in Palacios. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Young was born July 10, 1962 in Houston to Gloria Dean Watson of Palacios and the late Odis Young, Sr. He died Jan. 27, 2004. He was a Baptist. Mr. Young is survived by sisters Janice Young, Mary Watson and Erica Watson, all of Palacios; and brothers Gregory Mulkey, Jim Wygal and Eric Young, all of Palacios.
MATTIE SNIDER
Funeral services for Mattie Snider, 89, of Markham, were held Jan. 27, 2004 at he First Baptist Church in Markham with Rev. Howard Harper officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Snider was born August 30, 1914 in Sturges, Texas to Jasper Harvey and Elvina Dee Quinn Harvey. She died Jan. 25, 2004 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. She had been a resident of Matagorda County since 1928 and was a member of the Markham First Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Gleniece Ann Cude of Markham and Ruth Ellen Mc Wethey of Spring; by two sons, Howard Wayne Snider of Teague, TX and Lenard Arthur Snider of Conroe, TX; and by twelve grandchildren and thirty one great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Belton A. Snider. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Blake Pruett, Troy Snider, Tab Snider, Jeff Pruett, Matthew Wayne Snider, and Jeffrey Pruett, Jr. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. AMY HAMLIN ADAMS
Funeral services for Amy Hamlin Adams, 33, of Bay City, were held Jan. 22, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City with Rev. Kevin Young and Rev. Pauline Harvey officiating. Interment was at Cedarvale cemetery in Bay City. Mrs. Adams was born Aug. 28, 1970 in Palacios, Tx. to Kenneth W. Hamlin and Connie Ruth Gilbert Hamlin. She died Jan. 18, 2004. A lifelong resident of Matagorda County, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir. She was an LVN with the El Campo office of Houston Hospice. She is survived by her husband, Allen Michael Adams of Bay City; her children Olivia Adams, Scott Sherrill, Derek Sherrill and Ian Adams all of Bay City; her mother and stepfather, Connie Ruth and Fred Snyder of Richmond, Tx.; her father and stepmother, Kenneth W. and Yvonne Hamlin of Palacios; her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Hamlin of Palacios; a brother, Philip Wyane Hamlin and his wife, Evett, of Wharton; and a stepsister, Kim Harvey, and her husband, Rob, of Orlando, Fla. JANIE GONZALES APARICIO
Funeral services for Janie Gonzales Aparicio, 79, of Palacios were held January 19, 2004 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Aparicio was born July 6, 1924 in San Vicente, to the late Jose A. and Romana Gonzales. She died Jan. 16, 2004. A resident of Palacios since 1932, she was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and had worked for Palacios ISD. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Aparicio of Palacios; two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie Cantu of San Antonio and Carolyn and Raul Villarreal of Palacios; one sister, Celia Haskins and husband, Arthur, of Palacios; two brothers, Joe Gonzales, Jr. and Celso Gonzales, both of Palacios; grandchildren Larry Perez of Austin, Eric Cantu and wife, Emelda, of San Antonio, George Cantu of San Antonio, Dustin Villarreal of Palacios, and Desiree Villarreal of Austin; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Ernesto, Rodolfo and Ignacio Gonzales; and grandson, Raul Villarreal, Jr.
DOROTHY MAXINE CORPORON
Funeral services for Dorothy Maxine Corporon, 91, of Collegeport, were held Jan. 13, 2004 at the Palacios Funeral Home with Revs. Janell and Andy Blair officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Corporon was born Aug. 11, 1912 in Baraboo, WI to the late Alonzo and Anna Schubring Crane. She died Jan. 10, 2004 at Wesleyan Nursing Home in Georgetown, Tx. She had been a resident of Collegeport most of her life before moving to Georgetown in October 2001. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Collegeport where she was the church pianist for about 75 years. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Joy and Robert Keszler of Georgetown; sons and daughters-in-law Eugene and Vadis Corporon of Kingsland, Roy and Pam Corporon of Cuero, Weldon and Carolyn Corporon of Sequin, and Russell and Janice Corporon of Palacios; neice Judy Lews and her husband, Dick, of Baraboo, WI; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. L. Corporon, and brothers Alvin and Herb Crane. Mrs. Corporon's grandsons served as pallbearers. Funeral services for Maria Garcia Sanchez, 75, of Palacios, were held Jan. 11, 2004 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Palacios with Pastor Ray Bowles officiating. Interment was at the Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Sanchez was born Feb. 18, 1928 in Olivia, Tx. to the late Ramon M. and Juana Moya Garcia. She died Jan. 10, 2004. She was a lifelong resident of Palacios and a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She is survived by daughters Omega Espinosa of Baytown, Tx., Josephine Sanchez of Houston, Tx., and Emma Sanchez of Victoria, Tx.; sons Christopher D. Sanchez, Sr. of Palacios, Mario Sanchez, Sr. of Palacios, John M. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Koopman was born May 26, 1929 in Erick, Okla. to the late Charlie Austin Williams and Ethel Alzena Willingham Williams. She died Jan. 6, 2004 in Bay City. She was a resident of Palacios for more than 70 years and was a member of the Episcopal Church. She had worked as a waitress at the Capitol Drug Store and the Y-Cafe. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Illa and Edward Jalufka of Palacios, Martha and Jeral Seaman of Bayou LaBatre, Ala. and Wanda Gonzales and Dottie Epperson of Galveston, Tx.; stepson Eddie J. WILLIAM ROBERT MONTGOMERY, JR.
Funeral services for William Robert Montgomery, Jr., 82, of Palacios, were held Jan. 2, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Janell Blair officiating. Graveside services followed at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery in Houston. Mr. Montgomery was born March 16, 1921 in Houston to the late Bill and Edna Miller Montgomery. He died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003. A veteran of World War II, he served 3 1/2 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the Corps of Engineers. Later he attended the University of Houston, receiving a degree as a civil engineer and was certified as a registered professional engineer and land surveyor. As a paving engineer for the City of Houston, he received service awards from three mayors and a proclamation of 'Robert Montgomery Day' upon his retirement on March 21, 1980. He and wife became part time residents of Palacios in 1967, then permanent residents in 1980. A member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, he served on the board of the Friends of Elder Citizens and on the Matagorda County Appraisal Review Board, served as an advisor to the City of Palacios, was a member of the Seawall Commission for 10 years, serving as treasurer and chairman. The Palacios Chamber of Commerce honored him as Man of The Year in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Houston Montgomery, of Palacios. Memorials may be made to: First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
