AUGUST ADOLF JALUFKA, JR.
A Funeral Mass for August Adolf Jalufka, Jr., 62, of Blessing, was held Dec. 30, 2003 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with the Rev. Sam Appiasi officiating. Interment was at St. Peters Catholic cemetery. Mr. Jalufka was born June 15, 1941 in Lane City, Wharton County, TX to the late August A. Jalufka, Sr. and Cecilia Palasek Jalufka. He died on Dec. 26, 2003 in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a resident of Blessing for the past 40 years. He was employed for the past 27 years at South Texas Project in the maintenance department. He is survived by his wife, Joann Jalufka of Blessing; his mother; two daughters, Tina Jalufka of Bay City and Regina Ann Jalufka of Blessing; four sisters, Justine Hubenak of Jones Creek, Dolores Kemp and Linda Raab, both of LaWard and Virginia Tucker of Francitas; four brothers, Fred Jalufka of Francitas, Frank Jalufka of El Campo, Edward Jalufka of Palacios and Adolf Jalufka of Blessing; and one granddaughter, Kayla LeAnn Smith of Bay City. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Cecilia Ann Chamrad. Pallbearers were Russel Raab, Josh Kemp, Ashley and John Jalufka, Don, Mike and Wayne Guynes adn Isaiah Tucker. Honorary pall bearers were his four brothers and Fernando Gonzales, Nat Longoria, Sr., Greg Dixon and Gen. Wingler.
THOMAS GENE WOOD
Thomas Gene Wood, 79, of Tres Palacios Oaks, was buried at Hawley cemetery Dec. 29, 2003. He was born Aug. 19, 1924 in Port Lavaca, the second of four sons born to Warren and Lora Smith Wood. He died on Dec. 23, 2003. Mr. Wood served with the United States Marine Corps in World War II from 1942-1945 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Three months before his discharge, he married
the love of his life, Myrleen Henderson, who died in Dec. 2001 after 56-1/2 years of marriage. Gene and Myrleen lived in Houston for 28 years before returning to the coast they loved so much. They loved to fish as a couple with Gene catching the fish and Myrleen cleaning and cooking the fish. Mr. Wood is survived by one daughter, Barbara and her husband, Wayne Fenske; three grandchildren, Michelle Meneely, who served as his tireless caregiver for the past year; Jeffrey Fenske and his wife Brenda, and Jennifer Fenske; four great-grandchildren, Darryn, Amber, Devon and Kaitlin; one brother, Maurice Wood and his wife Polly and their family; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
WALTER EARL BARRIER
Funeral services for Walter Earl Barrier, 74, of Olivia, were held Dec. 23, 2003 at the Church of Christ in Port Lavaca. Interment was at Olivia cemetery. Mr. Barrier was born June 22, 1929 in Guadalupe, Tx. to the late Frances Wesley and Walter Rosser Barrier. He died Dec. 20, 2003. He spent his early years in Six Mile and Palacios before moving to Houston for his teenage years. He returned to Palacios with his family where he graduated and spent 20-plus years until making his home with his wife and children on Carancahua Bay. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and retired from Alcoa Aluminum where he worked as a pipe fitter for 42 years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Roberta Peterson Barrier; three children, David Earl Barrier of San Antonio, Daniel Wayne Barrier and wife Susan of Cape Carancahua, and Starla Barrier Cox and husband Rick of Orem, Utah; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister Gertrude Barrier MacDonald of Pearland, Tx. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Charles Otis Barrier of Houston, Fanell Barrier Richards of Palacios and Jessie Barrier. Pallbearers were Harry Frankson, Dillard McKay, Milam Simons Jr., Traylor Simons, James 'at'Nelson, Carol Abraham, Dallis Douglas and Joe Ward. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Grubert, Leroy Strnadel, Paul Poston, Buddy Lenz, Tommy Stovall, Billy Burt Traylor and Danny Qualls. Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer society of the Children's Home of Buda.
CHASITY DIANE VALENTINE
Funeral services for Chasity Diane Valentine, 26, of Clute, Tx, were held Dec. 20, 2003 at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute with Pastor Grigsby officiating. Interment was at Jones Creek cemetery in Jones Creek, Tx. Chasity was born Jan. 10, 1976 in Dallas, Tx. She died Dec. 15, 2003. She is survived by her mother, Brenda Valentine, and stepfather, Steven Valentine, of Clute; a brother, Robert Valentine, her grandmother Norma Foote; aunts and uncles Debra and Jim Laughlin, Wendi and Wendell Vandergrifft, Jan Vandergrifft, and Harold and Angela Vandergrifft; nephew Steven Nicolas Valentine; nieces Michelle Nicole West, Lyndsay Valentine and Mercedes Valentine; and special friends Toni Hodges and Margret Dixon. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Harold Vandergrifft.
VICTORIA 'MeeMaw' JANAK
A Funeral Mass for Victoria 'MeeMaw' Janak, 79, of Blessing, were held Dec. 15, 2003 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Gary Janak and Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment was at St. Peter's cemetery. Mrs. Janak was born Dec. 14, 1923 in Moulton, Tx. to the late John and Mary Pavlas Roeder. She died Dec. 13, 2003 in San Antonio. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the KJZT Society, a former member of the Altar Society and the Blessing American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a retired sales associate for JC Penney in Bay City. She is survived by daughters Mary Jo Patschke and husband, Jeff, of Georgetown, Tx., Rosemary Jackson and husband, Kim, of Corpus Christi, Kathleen Hollas and husband, Dan, of San Antonio; and Jeanette Allums and husband, Richard, of Palacios; a son, Ron Janak and wife, Sue, of Hopkinsville, Ky; daughter-in-law Donna Janak of Lake Jackson; sister Mary Triska of El Campo; grandchildren Greg, John and Laurie Janak, Steven, Robert and Randy Allums, Amanda and Kyle Janak, Jill, Rebecca and Emily Hollas, Katie, Matthew, Kenny and Wesley Jackson, and Christopher and Michael Patschke; and great-granddaughter Emma Janak. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 37 years Buck Janak; son Lawrence 'Larry' Janak; and brother Ben Roeder. JOSEPH ARNOLD BURTON
Graveside services for Joseph Arnold Burton, Phd., 56, of Henderson, N. C., were held Dec. 14, 2003 at the Palacios cemetery with Rev. Alley Burton officiating. Mr. Burton was born Dec. 7, 1947 to Matthew O. and Betty Jane Anderson Burton. He died Nov. 23, 2003. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of the University of Texas and received his Phd from the University of Pennsylvania. He taught at various universities. He is survived by his mother, Betty Burton; a sister, Virginia French; and a brother, Dr. E. A. Burton, all of Lockhart, Tx.
LAURA GAY BACHUS
Funeral services for Laura Gay Bachus, 63, of Palacios, were held Dec. 12, 2003 at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike Simpson officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Bachus was born May 24, 1940, in Bay City, to the late John Palmer and Gladys Linville Ford. She died Dec. 8, 2003. A life-long resident of Palacios, she retired in January 2003 as Vice President of City State Bank of Palacios with 45 years of service. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios. She is survived by her half-sister, Velma Hill of Kopperl, Tx.; and several neices and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lee Bachus Jr.; and half-brothers, Raymond Ford, Rayburn Ford, and Cecil Ford. Pallbearers were Kevin Templeman, Chipper Holt, Henry Buffaloe, and Bob, Chris and Phillip Fiorini. Memorials may be made to Palacios Library or the Palacios Medical Foundation to benefit the operating fund of the Palacios Community Medical Center.
MANUEL T. DOMINGUEZ
Funeral services for Manuel T. Dominguez, 66, of Midfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at St. Roberts Catholic Church in El Campo. Interment will be at Holy Cross Memorial Park in El Campo. Mr. Dominguez was born Dec. 5, 1937 in Driscoll, TX to the late Juan and Reyes Torres Dominguez. He died Dec. 10, 2003 at his home from complications with diabetes. He was a retired truck driver. Survivors include his life partner and companion for 13 years, Betty Ann Blocher; one son, Joe of El Campo; two step-sons, Dale A. Blocher, II of Louisiana and Jonas S. Blocher of Bay City; three daughters, Rosalina, Delia and Linda, all of El Campo; and three step-grandchildren.
HENRY ELI ROBERTSON, JR.
Memorial services for Henry Eli Robertson, Jr., 76, of Palacios will be held 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 at 164 Flat Fish Bend in the Lewis-Carancahua Addition. Mr. Robertson died Nov. 27. He was born Jan. 10, 1927 at Robstown to the late Henry Eli Robertson, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Nance Robertson. A retired oilfield gauger, he had resided in the Lewis-Carancahua Bay Addition since 1986 and was a former resident of Blessing. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of Robstown VFW Post 7841. Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Jean Matlock of Taft; a brother, Robert Guy Robertson, Sr. of Louisiana; nieces Jean Longone, Sharon Ann Dearing, Frances Bradley, Connie Harell and Debbie Robertson; nephew Robert Guy Robertson, Jr.; and by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and by great-great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friends, Larry and Henrietta Wagenback and Betty Curnutt. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Robertson.
LORENE ALLEN TREACY
Funeral services for Lorene Allen Treacy, 90, of Palacios were held Dec. 1, 2003 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Maxwell officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Treacy was born Aug. 11, 1913 in Gotebo, Okla. to the late Joseph Howard and Annie Lee Tabb Allen. She died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2003 at the Palacios Community Medical Center. A resident of Palacios since 1925, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was active in Women' Missionary Union, choir and numerous committees, including the building committee of the new Christian Life Center. She also was department director of Adult IV, and Intermediates for five years, and Adult II for five years, and taught 8-year-olds for 13 years and the Ladies Adult Class for five years. She was a charter member of the Palacios Community Hospital Pink Ladies, local Registrar of Vital Statistics for many years and was receptionist for the Palacios Funeral Home for 55 years. Mrs. Treacy was also a member of the Athena Club since 1959 and served on the Palacios cemetery Association board of directors from 1980 until she became an honorary board member in 2000. Survivors include two daughters: Bobbye Jean Cook and husband, Clyde, of Nederland, and Colleen Nataro of Palacios; six grandchildren: Patty Stunz of Nederland, Denise Cox and husband, Gene, of Nederland, Suzanne Brown and husband, Arthur, of Mesa, Ariz., George Patrick McHaney of Cleveland, Tex., Treacy Lynn Pattillo and husband, Earl, of Edna, Michael Vaughn McHaney and wife, Phyllis, of Rosenberg; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Patrick R. Treacy; three brothers, Roy, Thelbert and Butler Allen; one sister, Oleta Horn; and two sons-in-law, George McHaney, Jr., and Louis Nataro. Pallbearers were Earl Pattillo, Pat and Mike McHaney, Gene Allen, Charles Harvey and James Kruse. Memorials may be made to the charity of choice. Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.
