Funeral services for Marceline D. Mull, 74, of LaMarque, Tx., were held Sept. 2, 2003 at James Crowder Funeral Home in LaMarque with Exth. Richard Rodriguez officiating. Interment was at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock. Mrs. Mull was born April 9, 1929 in Palacios, Tx. to Skillen K. and Lyddia Bell Harvey. She died Aug. 28, 2003. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters and sons-in law Linda Kay and Ronald Ceres of New Caney, Renee and Jaime Hernandez and Sharon Mull of Texas City; sons and daughters-in-law Audie Mull, Sr. of Oklahoma, Carl Ray Mull, Sr. of LaMarque, Daniel Mull, Sr. of Tennessee, Gary and Phyllis Mull, Sr. of Minnesota, Rocky Mull of LaMarque, and Butch and Rashida Mull of Texas City; sister Beaulah Carrick of West Texas City; brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Alice Harvey of Palacios; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Seals Lee Mull; daughter Carolyn Trimble; son Ozell B. Tayler, Jr.; and sister Olga Sawyer. Pallbearers were Audie Mull, Sr., Carl Ray Mull, Sr., Daniel Mull, Sr., Gary Mull, Sr., Rocky Mull and Butch Mull. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Ray Mull, Jr., Allen Mull and Mark Hines.
DOROTHY 'Skeet' BRIGMON BULLINGTON
A memorial will be announced at a later date for Dorothy 'Skeet' Brigmon Bullington, 86, who died Aug. 7, 2003 at the home of her niece, Kelly Braudrick, in Hudson, Fla. Mrs. Bullington was born April 2, 1917 to Frank Brigmon and Simmie Rushing Brigmon in Compi, La. She was a retired nurse, a member of the VFW and American Legion. She is survived by a daughter, Lyn Braudrick, of Kerrville, Tx. and Jackie Braudrick of Palacios; grandchildren Kelly Braudrick of Hudson, Fla., Ray Leftwich of Port Owich of Port OPL operator. He is survived by his parents; a daughter Sonya Harvey of Palacios; a son, Kevin Deyton of Beaumont; a brother, Timmy Deyton of Lolita; and 2 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Texas.
EVELYN CARR CURNUTT
Funeral services for Evelyn Carr Curnutt, 81, of Markham were held Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 at Nichols Road Church of Christ, Bay City, with Mr. Joe Wrape officiating. Interment was at Cedarville cemetery. Mrs. Curnutt was born May 2, 1922 in Abernathy, Texas to the late James Dickson and Lillian Flowers Carr. She died Aug. 31, 2003. She graduated from West Texas State College, and served the military as a civilian pilot for land rescue efforts at Fairbanks, Alaska. An educator, she was the first woman athletic director for the Tidehaven Independent School District. She was a member of Nichols Road Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Sara Lee Curnutt of Markham; a sister, Joyce Miller of Odessa; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
KENNETH JOSEPH SANCHEZ
Funeral services for Kenneth Joseph Sanchez, 37, of Houston, were held Aug. 28, 2003 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Sanchez was born Feb. 18, 1966 in Houston to Lucio and Lucy Garza Sanchez, Jr. He died Aug. 24, 2003 in Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston. He was a member of the Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Houston. In addition to his parents, he is survived by brothers David Sanchez of Missouri City, Tx., and Gerald Sanchez of Wharton, Tx.; and god-daughter Audrey Sanchez of Houston. Pallbearers were Michael Rios, Gary and Larry Garza, Mario and Thomas Garcia, Rodelio Duran and Daryl Gallardo. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Samora, Rick Mendoza and Tom Savedra.
SHERMAN DALE CALLAWAY
A memorial service for Sherman Dale Callaway, 41, of Houston, was held Aug. 20, 2003 at JB Earthman Chapel in Houston. Mr. Callaway was born July 9, 1962 in Palacios to Delmar B. Callaway of Victoria and the late Gloria Ann Wiley Callaway. He died Aug. 23, 2003. A 1980 graduate of Palacios, he was a self employed maintenance man. He is survived by his father; his daughter, Shelby Callaway of Houston: and brother, Charlie Callaway of Victoria. Memorial donations may be made to ALS Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.
KRISTI FULTON CAIRNES
A private memorial service were held for Kristi Fulton Cairnes, 34, who died Aug. 29, 2003, in Corpus Christi, Tx. after suffering a severe head injury in a fall. Kristi was born February 25, 1969, in Newark, Ohio to Will and Mary Ann Fulton. She is survived by her husband, Norman Kyle Cairnes; her parents, Will and Mary Ann Fulton; stepson Jordan Kyle Cairnes of Baytown; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Elaine Fulton; sisters Kelly Joe Lott and Calleen Fulton; brother-in-law Carroll B. Cairnes, Jr., of Palacios; and sister-in-law Elizabeth Cairnes Alford and husband, Craig, of Houston; and in-laws Mr. and Mrs. Carroll B. Cairnes of Blessing and The Woodlands, and Mary Cairnes of Portland, Tx. A gift of life was made possible for serveral other people through the donation of some of Kristi's organs.
CHARLES EDWARD NESBITT
Funeral services for Charles Edward Nesbitt, 52, of Hernando, Miss., were held Aug. 24, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Blessing. The Rev. Larry Swift officiated, followed by interment in the Hawley cemetery. Mr. Nesbitt died Thursday, Aug. 21. A native of Tallis, N.M., he was born Jan. 20, 1951 to John and Mildred Marie Key Nesbitt of Blessing. He was a heavy equipment operator and a Baptist. Survivors in addition to the parents include the wife, Marilyn Hunter Nesbitt of Hernando, Miss.; one daughter, Amanda Nesbitt of Bay City; two sons, Billy Berry and Van Berry, both of Holly Hill, S.C.; step-daughter, Melissa Tyrell of Smith, Ala.; step-son John Musser of Smith, Ala.; three sisters, Joyce Smith of Sarah, Miss.; Carol Yates of Watson, Ark.; and Joann Story of Bay City; six brothers; James Nesbitt of Blessing, Arbie Nesbitt of DeBalls Bluff, Ark., Floyd Nesbitt of Palacios; Lloyd Nesbitt of Porter, Tex., Alvie Nesbitt of Holly Hill, S.C., and Lindell Nesbitt of Cuero; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Nesbitt. Pallbearers were James Nesbitt, Arbie Nesbitt, Lloyd Nesbitt, Floyd Nesbitt, Ricky Nesbitt and James Nesbitt, Jr. Alvie Nesbitt was honorary pallbearer.
HAZEL F. BROWER
Private services were held for Hazel F. Brower, 88, of Palacios, who died Aug. 14, 2003. Interment was at Lakewood, New Jersey. A memorial service will be announced later in September. An elementary school teacher in New Jersey, she retired in 1972 and moved to Palacios. She was a member of the First United Methodist Churches of Lakewood, New Jersey and Palacios. She is survived by three sisters, Edith Hunter and Pauline Garnet of Missouri and Mary Millstead of California; a grandson, William; and two great-grandsons. Mrs. Brower was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley E. Brower. Memorial gifts may be made to the First Methodist Church of Palacios.
ANDREW LOUIS MAHONEY
Funeral services for Andrew Louis Mahoney, 17, of Palacios, were held Aug. 15, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with services conducted by Don Kopecky of Palacios and Michael McGuire of Port Lavaca. Interment was at Hawley cemetery. Andrew was born July 13, 1986 in Houston to Robert Joseph and Linda Wiesepape Mahoney. He fell alseep with Jesus on Aug. 11, 2003 at the Shriners Hospital in Houston. A resident of Palacios since the age of 2, he was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a member of the Palacios High School Chorale, drama, and was presented the Athletic Spirit Award for 2002 by the Booster Club. He is survived by his parents Linda and Shan Jackson of Palacios; brothers Robert Mahoney and wife, Charish of Houston, and Christopher Mahoney of Victoria; maternal grandmother Jean Wiesepape of Palacios, step-brothers Brian and Bo Jackson of Blessing; step-sister Casey Jackson Malone of South Dakota; and uncle Louis Jones and wife, Diana, of Rockport, Tx. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Robert J. Mahoney. Pallbearers were Aaron Rojas, Blake Perkins, Tyler Thompson, Stanley Petrisky, Covey Lanfear and Darrell Hall. Honorary pallbearers were Sam Constancio, Paco Vazquez, and the PHS Class of 2004.
EDITH CORDELIA CURTIS
Funeral services for Edith Cordelia Curtis, 89, of Palacios, were held Aug. 15, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Brazoria with the Rev. Sealy Smith officiating. Interment was at Brazoria cemetery. Mrs. Curtis was born April 7, 1914 in Mammoth Springs, Ark. to Enoch and Judy Caroline Waits Dodge. She died Aug. 11, 2003 at Palacios Community Medical Center in Palacios. She is survived by daughters Carolyn Bradshaw LaQue and husband, Jimmy, of Palacios, and Wanda Lou Whitlock Bellar and husband, Jerry, of Gainesville; sisters Jewell Riggs and Lucy Newman of Texarkana; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband O. V. "Bill" Curtis; brothers Asa, Ira, Alonzo "Lonnie", and Marshall Dodge; and sister Era Angotti. Pallbearers were Darrell Reed, Ed Carr, David Jordan, Eddie Giesie, Pat Kelly and Eldridge Burnette. Honorary pallbearer was Allen Jordan.
